Year In Review: What Matters Most As We End 2022?

Albuquerque, New Mexico- As Abortion Free New Mexico wraps up 2022 we want to acknowledge some of the highlights of what the Lord has done through our ministry this year. The Lord has used our generous supporters and prayer partners to make this a very productive and fruitful year. Thank you!

First, we built a team of committed volunteers that recruited and held the line in prayer EVERY day that the UNM abortion facility was open in 2022! These prayer warriors pushed back the darkness and brought the love of Christ to the sidewalk! Our prayer initiative, No Sidewalk Without the Savior was a huge success.

We worked to build a community with our volunteers of over 70 people by hosting fellowship meals, gatherings and trainings every other month. Through these efforts we have also built stronger relationships with local churches and grown and served together as the body of Christ with a spirit of unity.

This year we also continued our groundbreaking research bringing you key reports about the New Mexico abortion industry and it’s collaborators. Our reports and information about the New Mexico abortion industry was utilized by several political campaigns to expose the extreme agenda of the radical pro-abortion democrats. In fact, the Democratic Party of New Mexico was so threatened by our efforts, that they attacked us publicly!

What matters most is that we worked to build community with our volunteers, maintained a prayerful presence at the UNM abortion facility and continued our ministry efforts which ultimately helped the following moms choose life. Read the testimonies below:

Mom #1- In late September a woman reached out to us to see if there would be anyone present at the UNM abortion Center. She was concerned because her daughter was traveling from the Dallas, TX area to Albuquerque for an abortion.

After a full day of conversations Tara was finally put in touch with the pregnant mom and was able to meet with her at about 9pm the night before her abortion. After talking a praying and going separate ways Tara followed up with her by phone to schedule and ultrasound for her locally the next day. During that call the pregnant mom said that she would be continuing her pregnancy and would get an ultrasound when she went back home.

Over the next few days the pregnant mom spent time exploring our state and enjoying herself, even buying some New Mexican jewelry for the baby. She went home and has been getting prenatal care and ultrasounds. She found out that she is expecting a baby boy which is due to arrive in the Spring. Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers organized a care package for the mom and sent it to her and Tara continues to keep in touch with both the pregnant mom and her mother who reached out initially.

Please keep this family in your prayers, for guidance and wellbeing for the birth mom and that the family draws near to the Lord during this time.

Mom#2- In November our Tuesday volunteers were approached by a gentleman who brought a woman from the El Paso, TX area for an abortion. She was told in Texas that she was 15 weeks pregnant but when she went into the UNM abortion facility they told her that she was 28 weeks and referred her to the later abortion facility here in Albuquerque. However, her driver was able to find encouragement from our volunteers to further encourage the mom to choose life. Our volunteers kept up the encouragement by taking the couple to breakfast and by talking face to face with the pregnant mom about the baby, her life and how to move forward with help and resources.

Thankfully, the pregnant mom chose life and went back home to prepare for her little arrival due in a matter or days now. Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers organized a care package for the mom and sent it to her and our volunteers continue to keep in touch with the driver who brought her and is helping her.

Please pray for a safe delivery and that this mom is blessed on her journey as a new mom.

Mom #3- Abortion Free New Mexico purchased a crib and mattress for a family that was intercepted by a fellow sidewalk counselor who ministers at the late term abortion center, Southwestern Women’s Options. A 15 year old pregnant mom from the Longview area of Texas came for an abortion at 33 weeks of pregnancy.

Upon leaving the abortion facility Tara was able to talk with the pregnant mom’s (mother who brought her for the abortion) by phone and encouraged her to create an Amazon baby registry so that we could purchase the items that were urgently needed. Since they have been home they’ve held a baby shower and the family seems very supportive.

Thank you to Abortion Free New Mexico’s volunteers who purchased additional items for this family!

Please pray for this young mom and her parents as they prepare for this baby boy’s arrival.

Join Us as we Start 2023 Strong!

Abortion Free New Mexico and Created Equal have teamed up to bring our activism to the next level in New Mexico in 2023 by upgrading our Truth Truck with a mobile LED screen that can feature ANY message and even play videos!

This unique set up allows the back LED screen to be unhitched from the truck to become a portable LED screen that we can use ANYWHERE! (See pictures above)

In today’s culture everything is digital and in the new year we plan to utilize these screens not only in the public square but also at local high schools and colleges. We now have an amazing opportunity to engage our community in a new innovative way to restore meaning to the word abortion and also to let pregnant women know that there are many positive alternatives to abortion.

We secured the screen for the back of the truck! Praise God! We still need funds to get the essential supplies and accessories to get it on the road. Please consider a year end tax deductible gift to make this effort a reality.

P.S. Now more than ever before New Mexico is the abortion destination, especially for women in neighboring Texas and Arizona. We are already witnessing the influx of these women as local abortion facility parking lots are full of cars with Texas license plates.

We believe that we can help more women choose life with this new technology on the sidewalks. Please pray for us and give a tax deductible donation today.

    God bless you!

  • BREAKING: Babies Aborted In New Mexico Transported To Texas For Disposal

BREAKING: Babies Aborted In New Mexico Transported To Texas For Disposal

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico– Abortion Free New Mexico’s latest investigation has uncovered that Oncore Health Solutions (a conglomerate of Oncore Technology LLC and BioCycle Inc.) is transporting babies that are aborted in New Mexico across state lines to be disposed of as biohazard waste in the state of Texas. These disposal facilities are located in Amarillo and Grand Prairie, TX.

Due to the recent SCOTUS decision, Texas law now bans babies from being aborted. However, no law currently exists preventing aborted babies from the neighboring state of New Mexico from being transported to Texas and disposed of as, “biohazard waste”

“The fact that babies can’t be killed in Texas but aborted babies from New Mexico can be disposed of as biohazard waste in Texas by companies like Oncore/BioCycle must be remedied by the Texas legislature,” stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.

This alarming discovery has come after months of documentation and several complaints with the New Mexico Environment Department.

In November 2020, local sidewalk advocates began sending Abortion Free New Mexico pictures of an unmarked waste hauler vehicle that routinely picked up the biohazard waste containers full of aborted babies that were killed at the Planned Parenthood surgical center in Albuquerque. Planned Parenthood performs abortions up to 19.6 weeks of pregnancy.

Abortion Free New Mexico filed a complaint with the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) based on the statute, NMAC 20.9.5.14 (A) (7) and (8) which, requires commercial haulers of infectious waste to:

    • (7) conspicuously label all solid waste collection vehicles with the company,municipality, or county department name;
    • (8) conspicuously label all solid waste collection vehicles with the environment department registration number.

After a six month investigation the NMED determined that the company servicing Planned Parenthood was, “Oncore Technology LLC”, a waste hauler with an expired registration as of March 2019.

According to Thomas Simmons, the Operations Manager for Oncore Technology, they purchased BioCycle and no longer operated under the name “Oncore Technology” but are also known as Oncore Healthcare Solutions, LLC. However, they failed to re-register with the state of New Mexico and had been operating with multiple violations.

The NMED noted the following manifest violations with both the waste generator (Planned Parenthood) and the waste Hauler (Oncore Technology LLC.) These manifests accompany each pickup and transport of biohazard waste and document how much waste is being transported. On average there were two to three 28 gallon containers that were collected weekly from the Albuquerque Planned Parenthood surgical center between January-April 2021.

Of the 17 manifests Planned Parenthood submitted to NMED, all of the

“generator blocks of the special waste manifests were insufficiently completed.”

Oncore Technology LLC’s specific manifest violations are as follows:

    1. Oncore Technology LLC is currently an unregistered commercial hauler.
    2. The manifests used were in Oncore Technologies LLC’s name but BioCycle’s NMED commercial hauler registration number was used.
    3. The treatment facility block information required on the manifests was not completely filled-in and lacked the:
    • telephone number of the facility
    • total weight deposited/unloaded
    • printed name of the facility’s representative
    • the date of the signature
    • section, instead of an actual hand-written signature.
    • a signature stamp was used to “sign” the manifests in the treatment facility block

Oncore Technology was ultimately also found to be in violation of the following:

    1. Failure to re-register as a commercial hauler (unregistered commercial hauler), violation of 20.9.3.31.A NMAC, seventeen (17) instances of violation, occurring on or before January 8, 2021 to April 30, 2021;
    2. Misrepresentation of information on special waste manifests (used BioCycle’s NMED commercial hauler registration number), violation of 20.9.8.19.C NMAC, seventeen (17) instances of violation, occurring on or before January 8, 2021 to April 30, 2021;
    3. Failure to properly complete special waste manifests, violation of 20.9.8.19.C NMAC, seventeen (17) instances of violation, occurring on or before January 8, 2021 to April 30, 2021; and
    4. Failure to properly label vehicles for infectious waste removal, violation of 20.9.5.14.C (4) NMAC, seventeen (17) instances of violation, occurring on or before January 8, 2021 to April 30, 2021.

Just a Slap on the Wrist

In a letter dated May 19, 2021 from NMED Enforcement Officer Daniel Galasso to Amy Dickson, Chief Operating Officer of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, he simply instructs Planned Parenthood to begin filling out the special waste manifests properly to document chain of custody. Regarding Oncore Technology LLC, BioCycle and Oncore Health Technologies violations, they were instructed to correct the violations within 10 days. This amounts to nothing more than a slap on the wrist from the NMED even though there are legitimate documented violations of New Mexico statute that have occurred.

2nd Complaint Filed- Aborted Babies illegally transported in the Front Seat

(THESE RED BINS CONTAIN THE HUMAN REMAINS OF ABORTED CHILDREN.)

On April 7, 2022, Abortion Free New Mexico’s Tara Shaver filed an additional complaint with the New Mexico Environment Department after volunteers outside of the Albuquerque Planned Parenthood took pictures and video of Oncore/BioCycle waste haulers illegally placing biohazard containers in the front seat of a pickup truck. These red bins contained the human remains of aborted children. The vehicle still lacked proper identification in accordance with New Mexico statute.

Dan Galasso, Enforcement Coordinator and Environmental Scientist informed Tara Shaver that the company has been instructed to correct these items of non-compliance but at this time, there has been no disciplinary action taken.

Abortion Free New Mexico has sent letters to Oncore/BioCycle’s President, Otley Smith, CEO Vernon Wells and Vice President, R. Mason Bryant to urge them to sever ties with Planned Parenthood of New Mexico. The Project Weak Link initiative that Abortion Free New Mexico has teamed up with Created Equal to implement in New Mexico believes that,

“If abortionists are going to kill babies, they should be forced to dispose of the bodies by themselves. The abortion industry does not exist by itself. It is deeply ingrained in cultural institutions, norms, and economies. To end abortion, we must decrease the industry’s relevance by socially and financially isolating it from other industries.”

It’s time to implement the next phase of this initiative because the New Mexico Environment Department has failed to properly discipline Oncore/BioCycle for their violations. Abortion Free New Mexico may be calling on the public in the coming weeks to let their voices be heard by Oncore/BioCycle leaders as well as leaders in the Texas Legislature.

    Tara Shaver continued,

“Not only is Abortion Free New Mexico sounding the alarm about the transportation and disposal of aborted babies across state lines, we are also calling for the U.S. Congress to address the constitutional crisis that is looming for pre-born babies. How is the right to life lost by crossing a state line? This crisis is very reminiscent of the earliest days in this nation when free states and slave states existed. Surely we are not going back into that dark place where your place of residence determines your value. Pre-born babies all across America need and deserve constitutional personhood from the moment of conception.”

  • Extreme Late-Term Abortionist Found Dead In Hotel At Drug Use Conference

Extreme Late-Term Abortionist Found Dead In Hotel At Drug Use Conference

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico has learned that abortionist Carmen Landau, the primary late-term abortionist at Southwestern Women’s Options, was found  dead “suddenly and unexpectedly” in her hotel room in Puerto Rico on October 14, 2022. Landau was attending the National Harm Reduction Conference, which promotes drug use by providing syringes and naloxone to users. She served as the medical director of the event.

Tara Shaver, Spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico, issued the following statement,

For several years Abortion Free New Mexico has prayed for abortionist Carmen Landau, that she would walk away from the abortion industry and ultimately see the humanity of both women and their unborn children. It is our hope that before her passing she turned to the Lord Jesus Christ. Our prayers continue for her family that they will find comfort and healing during this difficult time.”

Abortion Free New Mexico has also discovered that prior to her sudden death, Landau was working with local abortionists to open a new abortion clinic in Albuquerque called, Valley Abortion Group.

With a focus on “comprehensive abortion care often later in pregnancy” the stated aim of the Valley Abortion Group abortionists, is to accommodate the:

many new providers [that] have come from out-of-state and are focused on caring for patients from out-of-state, while Valley Abortion Group maintains our commitment to patients from New Mexico by accepting local payers, such as Medicaid, and working with local organizations to increase access for patients from rural and tribal areas.”

According to the New Mexico Secretary of State’s website the Valley Abortion Group LLC was formed on August 17, 2022.

Landau’s cohorts are using her unexpected death to keep this effort going and are actively raising funds through a crowdfunding site. Their goal is $100,000. It is uncertain if their plans to open a new late-term abortion clinic in Albuquerque will succeed.

  • Ambulance Transports Injured Woman From UNM Abortion Facility

Ambulance Transports Injured Woman From UNM Abortion Facility

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico– On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, a prayer volunteer with Abortion Free New Mexico witnessed a woman being transported by ambulance from the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) abortion facility right before the lunch hour. This medical emergency occurred the day after New Mexicans largely elected 100% pro-abortion candidates in the general election across the state. It is unknown what the status of the woman’s injuries are but it is known that UNM abortion center performs late-term abortions up to 24 weeks (6 months) of pregnancy.

Abortion is not normal, is not safe, is not essential health care. Providing this barbaric act should be criminalized,” stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.

Abortion Free New Mexico has documented numerous abortion injuries over the years at the UNM abortion facility in an attempt to bring awareness to the dangers of the unregulated abortion industry in New Mexico. Since abortions are blind procedures and a woman’s uterus is thinned out to make room for a baby, abortion instruments can perforate the uterus or even the cervix. Sometimes during second trimester abortions when the abortionist is reaching in and pulling out the baby in pieces, a woman’s bodily organs can also be extracted which requires emergency surgery.

The condition of the woman injured at UNMCRH on November 9, 2022 remains unknown at this time.

Abortion Free New Mexico will file a medical board complaint based on this incident and an investigation will be requested to see if negligence was the cause of this emergency transport. Abortion Free New Mexico will also seek to obtain the 911 call that summoned the ambulance to the facility. Unfortunately, the city of Albuquerque has a long history of denying these public records and we are considering legal action in the near future.

    Tara Shaver continued,

It is unfortunate that New Mexicans continue to elect candidates who turn a blind eye to the fact that abortion harms women and kills innocent children in the womb. Every life should be cherished and women deserve to know about the alternatives to abortion that won’t land them in the hospital with potential life threatening injuries. We pray for the people of this state, that they will one day reject the narrative that abortion is healthcare because it clearly is not. Abortion needs to be called out for what it is, the brutal dismemberment of children, and should be rejected by all.”

  • Abortion Stigma Helps Keep Los Alamos, New Mexico Abortion Free

Abortion Stigma Helps Keep Los Alamos, New Mexico Abortion Free

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico– In October of 2020, Brenda Pereda, a controversial University of New Mexico trained abortionist opened a Women’s Clinic at the Los Alamos Medical Center (LAMC). In interviews she was not shy about her agenda to provide abortions for “whatever the reason” and to expand a pro-abortion agenda “into the DNA of the hospital.” However, by March of 2022 she had resigned from her position and it’s clear that her agenda wasn’t welcomed by fellow physicians at the Medical Center.

It is impossible to escape the stigma that follows abortionists who have betrayed true medicine by killing innocent helpless babies in their mothers wombs,” stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.

Community groups such as BabyNet, a subcommittee of the Los Alamos County Health Council, and the First Born Program openly welcomed Pereda and her radical abortion agenda but the hospital itself failed to consider the baggage that she would be bringing into the medical community.

While Brenda Pereda’s excuses for resigning from her newly obtained position at the Los Alamos Medical Center stemmed from a “non welcoming feeling” from a “male doctor-centered environment” that she claimed originated from alleged racism because she is a, “Latina physician of color of Mexican descent.” It is more likely however, that her reputation as an abortionist and her stated agenda to foist a radical abortion agenda upon the Los Alamos Medical Center staff is what was not welcomed. This is bolstered by her own admission to the Los Alamos Reporter that she was triggered that her colleagues may have considered her solely as an, “abortionist”.

While Pereda claimed that the work environment was hostile and unsafe for her, a spokesperson for Los Alamos Medical Center stated that,

A thorough investigation has taken place, and we are confident that these claims of a hostile and unsafe work environment are unfounded.”

Pereda’s replacement is Dr. Sharon Ransom and according to a receptionist she does not perform abortions and the Los Alamos Medical Center will not allow abortions in the hospital.

    Tara Shaver continued,

Abortion Free New Mexico is pleased to report that no abortions are being performed at the Los Alamos Medical Center. Every abortion takes the life of an innocent human being and the stigma surrounding those who perform abortions is a natural consequence that will never dissipate. More doctors should disassociate with those who do harm by performing abortions. The community of Los Alamos must stand together in order to make sure that abortions are not expanded into their community. New Mexico continues to be an abortion magnet in the bigger cities like Albuquerque and Las Cruces. The pro-life community continues to strive to meet the needs of pregnant women so that killing their children in the womb will one day become unthinkable.”

Brenda Pereda sits on the National Abortion Federation Board of Directors and prides herself on working at the University of New Mexico (UNM) for over a decade as an Assistant professor and Assistant Dean of diversity, equity and inclusion. Pereda also trained residents and students to perform abortions. She has published various medical research projects regarding postpartum IUD insertion, reversible and permanent contraception in India as well as nitrous oxide for pain management of first trimester surgical abortions.

Pereda has most recently been sighted at Southwestern Women’s Options late-term abortion facility located in Albuquerque, NM. It is unknown where she is currently employed.

  • Mom Chooses Life After 600 Mile Journey

Mom Chooses Life After 600 Mile Journey

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico– The day before Albuquerque’s annual Balloon Fiesta began, Abortion Free New Mexico was blessed with the opportunity to help a pregnant mom choose life for her baby. It all began with an email from the pregnant mom’s mother, living in Texas, who was trying to find out if there would be any sidewalk counselors at the UNM abortion center to intercept her daughter.

She searched online for, “sidewalk counselors in Albuquerque” and our contact information came up. Her daughter had made the decision to travel over 600 miles from Texas to New Mexico to have an abortion procedure that could put her physical life at risk as well as her future fertility, emotional wellbeing and a potential lifetime of other consequences.

Over the course of that day Tara corresponded with her mom to try and assess the situation. The prospect of one family member planning to get an abortion was enough to disrupt the whole family unit. There was so much concern for the pregnant mom from within the family which ended up being a blessing due to the fact that it ultimately allowed us a chance to speak with her before she arrived at the abortion center.

On the night before her scheduled appointment, Tara was able to go and meet with the pregnant mom and her father who had driven her here. It was evident by body language and her lack of emotion that she was not feeling like an empowered woman. She looked sad and she said that she was sad multiple times. What she needed was someone to listen to her and to really hear how she was feeling about the situation and for someone to help her work through her fears.

During the conversation Tara was able to share with her what the abortion industry never wants a pregnant mom to hear, the truth that when you are pregnant you are a mother. Also, that having an abortion comes with a wide range of consequences. Some women who abort their first child are never able to get pregnant again, some women suffer guilt, shame and regret that leads to unhealthy and dangerous behaviors like drug addiction and suicide.

Tara shared with her that she is worth more than an abortion that can’t solve any of the problems or concerns she is facing, but that we are here to support her and to let her know all of the other options available to her. Tara also explained and showed her the actual abortion procedure, let her hold a fetal model the approximate size of her own baby and assured her that she has time to figure out what is best for her and the baby.

Pregnant moms in a panic rarely stop to consider that their pregnancy is temporary, it will end naturally in nine months and until that time they can plan and consider what they really want to do whether it be to parent or place the child in an open or closed adoption situation. Oftentimes there are even family members willing to care for and adopt the baby. Every life affirming option was given as well as assurances that what the future holds is unknown but that this baby could help her find purpose in her life.

After parting ways Tara reached out to her to schedule an ultrasound for the next day, at that point the pregnant mom told Tara that she wanted to cancel her abortion appointment and pursue placing the baby for adoption.

Instead of having an abortion she and her father spent the day together taking in the culture and sights of New Mexico. One night before they returned to Texas, one of our volunteers offered to take us all out to dinner. If was a great opportunity connect on a more personal level and her transformation from the previous night was amazing to see. She was smiling and it was as if the weight of the world was lifted off of her. She had been carrying such a heavy burden so determined to have the abortion, but her decision to choose life had set her and her unborn child free!

Her father texted Tara shortly after arriving back in Texas stating how thankful he was that we met with them and shared so much information with his daughter in crisis.

Tara asked him an important question as we seek to understand how to help women in urgent crisis situations surrounding their decision to have an abortion or not,

What was it that had helped her change her mind and choose life?”

He responded that it was a combination of everyones support, seeing the abortion procedure, holding the fetal model and simply being listened to.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement:

“We are completely humbled by the opportunity to help a mom choose life for her unborn child.

Sometimes life throws curveballs and sometimes women just don’t feel ready to be a mother but that never means that the child in the womb should be eliminated. The pro-life community is armed with resources, tangible help as well as overwhelming love and support. The abortion industry lacks all of these things because what they are offering is a bandaid for real life situations that deserve our time and attention. We are grateful that this new mom has such a supportive family that will be there for her throughout this whole process.

Women are truly empowered by choosing life even in difficult circumstances and we witnessed this firsthand.

We greatly appreciate the prayers of our volunteers which we know played a vital part in softening this this mom’s heart.

Every life is a beautiful gift.”

  • BREAKING: Updated New Mexico Abortion Clinic Landscape 2022

BREAKING: Updated New Mexico Abortion Clinic Landscape 2022

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico– While many states have benefited from Roe vs. Wade being overruled, unfortunately in New Mexico, abortion is expanding and there is already a visible increase in abortion tourism

The Los Angeles Times put it this way,

New Mexico, one of six states that allow late-term abortions, has for years been overwhelmed by travelers from swaths of the country where the procedure is forbidden. But the Supreme Court’s ruling Friday on a Mississippi law to ban most abortions after 15 weeks, reversing the landmark 1973 Roe vs. Wade ruling, has New Mexico’s abortion providers bracing for a new influx of patients from conservative states.”

Over the past 12 years Abortion Free New Mexico has been successful in working to close several abortion centers and helped prevent the expansion of abortion through cutting edge investigations and accountability projects.  However, in a post Roe America not only are women coming to New Mexico to capitalize on the state’s lack of common sense legislation that should protect them and their children from the brutality of abortion, but abortion providers are also capitalizing on the lack of laws regulating abortion clinics.

In addition, the state of New Mexico financially incentivizes abortion by providing full funding up to the day of birth through New Mexico Medicaid. Most recently, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has even pledged 10 million state tax dollars, if she is re-elected, to fund the expansion of abortion further with a new abortion clinic in Doña Ana County.

For several years now there have only been five abortion clinics operating in the state. Now there are currently nine abortion clinics statewide with one more making plans to relocate. Whole Woman’s Health, is pursuing a move to a New Mexico/Texas border town where they plan to offer first and second trimester abortions. In the meantime, Whole Woman’s Health advertises on their website the ability to, “get abortion pills delivered in as little as 3-5 days” and New Mexico is one of the five locations they are actively mailing these dangerous abortion drugs to.

The abortion pill has become increasingly accessible nationwide through telehealth appointments and pill by mail options. Four out of the nine abortion clinics in the state are solely prescribing abortion inducing drugs also known as the medication abortion or the abortion pill.

    • Thankfully, though the abortion pill can be reversed within 72 hours of taking the first dose of medication. Albuquerque CareNet pregnancy centers are prepared to assist women in reversing their abortion pill decision.

Prior to 2022, Albuquerque was the only city in New Mexico where surgical abortions were being performed. Now an abortion facility, previously located in Mississippi, has relocated to Las Cruces, New Mexico to perform surgical abortions up to 19 weeks gestation.

In addition to Albuquerque being home to three surgical abortion clinics including the notorious Southwestern Women’s Options that performs first, second, and third trimester late term induction abortions. Albuquerque now has a new clinic solely performing medication abortions (up to 10 weeks) that has relocated from San Antonio, TX called, “Alamo Women’s Clinic” which shares a parking lot with a local Christian Church.

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

“The expansion of abortion clinics in New Mexico is likely to put more women’s lives at risk because abortion clinics are completely unregulated and some already have a record of injuring women including the death of Keisha Atkins in 2017. Women need love, support and encouragement during an unplanned pregnancy, not abortion.

Abortion Free New Mexico is ready to direct women traveling here for abortions to tangible life affirming resources. We will do all we can in a peaceful and legal manner to advocate for moms and their unborn children no matter the situation they are facing. Every life is valuable and worthy of fighting for which is why it is imperative that the leaders of New Mexico take life affirming actions to promote and preserve life.

As long as abortion remains so widely accessible New Mexico will continue to have a dismal reputation and those who come here to complete their abortions will suffer from the memory of the great harm that was done in our beautiful state.”

Here we map out the new abortion clinic landscape in New Mexico so that you are fully informed about the ongoing expansion that the state is facing with regard to abortion.”

You are essential in helping to build a culture of life in our state. Let’s come together in a spirit of unity to stand together for our brothers and sisters in the womb. New Mexican values are rich in faith, family and tradition. Shavers Attorney Demands Retraction from the Democrat Party of New Mexico

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On Friday, September 16, 2022 the Democratic Party of New Mexico published a press release full of egregious accusations that have prompted our attorney to demand an immediate retraction. The Democrat Party of New Mexico (DPNM) is triggered that we hosted a fundraiser for U.S. congressional candidate Michelle Garcia Holmes and are attempting to disparage our reputation and are possibly even trying to incite violence against us by their rhetoric.

The DPNM is accusing us of being extremists with, “ties to alleged domestic terrorism” when in fact, we came to New Mexico to expose late term abortions for the barbaric procedures that they are and also to lead women compassionately to tangible alternatives to abortion. Never in our pro-life missionary journey have we ever condoned violence of any kind, in fact, we are working to end the ultimate violent act that leads to the exploitation of women through abortion.

The Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) are the extremists because they support abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, even when babies could survive outside the womb. According to a recent poll released by the Associated Press, 80% of Americans oppose late term abortions. The fact that New Mexico is the late term abortion capital, is a hard truth that New Mexicans must grasp when considering who to cast their vote for this November.

Late term abortions have no place in a civilized society but the DPNM fully embraces these procedures which take place over 3-4 days and result in the labor and delivery of a stillborn child. Late term abortion procedures are traumatic and can leave women forever emotionally and physically scarred.

Angelo Artuso, attorney for Bud and Tara Shaver wrote in a letter to Daniel Garcia, Communications Director of the Democratic Party of New Mexico, the following,

By publishing false statements of fact either knowing them to be false or in reckless disregard for whether they are true or false, you have exposed yourself and New Mexico Democrats.org to potential legal action. On behalf of the Shavers, I demand that you and New Mexico Democrats.org print and publish an immediate retraction of these falsehoods.

Letter to DPNM Demanding Re… by Bud Shaver

Pro-life missionary Tara Shaver issued the following statement,

“For over 12 years we have served New Mexico as pro-life missionaries and have run a successful pro-life ministry without any acts of violence. We have exposed the graphic truth about abortion and have peacefully sought to bring accountability to an out of control and completely unregulated abortion industry in New Mexico. Our goal is to end the atrocity of abortion while educating our culture to embrace women in crisis who are considering an abortion in order to help them rise above their circumstances.

For the Democrat Party of New Mexico to publish egregious misstatements with total disregard for the truth and accuse us of being extremists is the height of hypocrisy. It is the DPNM that is extreme in their view as they champion all abortions, even those up to the day of birth.

We love and value pregnant women from all walks of life and desire to protect them and their pre-born children. We will never waver from proclaiming the truth about the atrocity of abortion and will always stand up for the, ‘least of these’ among us. Our prayers go out to those who support abortion and we hope that those especially in Democrat Party of New Mexico would come to conversion and see how beautiful the gift of life truly is.”

  • New Mexico Medicaid Spent Nearly $1,000,000 of Taxpayer Money To Fund Abortions From 2020-2021

New Mexico Medicaid Spent Nearly $1,000,000 of Taxpayer Money To Fund Abortions From 2020-2021

    By Bud Shaver,

    Albuquerque, New Mexico-
Abortion Free New Mexico has obtained the most current Medicaid data from the New Mexico Human Services Department which shows how much state tax dollars are being used to fund abortions through New Mexico Medicaid.

    • New Mexico is currently one of 16 states that, due to a court order fully funds all abortions, even those in the third trimester.

In a public records request submitted on July 13, 2022, Abortion Free New Mexico’s Tara Shaver asked for information that is a matter of public record which included:

“1. Total number of abortions abortions paid for by New Mexico medicaid in 2020 and 2022. 2. Please include with specificity the week of pregnancy in which each abortion was performed and also the medical provider who was reimbursed for the procedure. 3. Total dollar amount that was paid for these procedures.”

Unfortunately, under the current administration only the total number of abortions and the total dollar amount reimbursed by New Mexico Medicaid in 2020 and 2022 was provided. This lack of transparency is in stark contrast to previous years that Abortion Free New Mexico has made public requests in order to inform the public about how their money is used to fully fund abortions using state tax dollars.

    • In 2020, New Mexico Medicaid funded 3,372 abortion procedures that resulted in expenditures to abortion providers totaling $386,096.06.
    • In 2021, the numbers rose as New Mexico Medicaid funded 3,955 abortion procedures that resulted in expenditures to abortion providers totaling $421,026.90.
    • This amounts to almost $1 million tax dollars funding 7,327 abortions over the course of two years alone!

On Wednesday, August 31, 2022 Governor Lujan Grisham signed an executive order pledging to designate $10 million dollars to fund a borderland abortion center in Dona Ana County. By signing this order she has vowed to use New Mexico tax dollars to fund out of state abortions, primarily for women who cross state lines to kill their unborn children. For her to be able to foist this radical agenda upon New Mexicans she would have to be re-elected and be able to get the funds approved through the state legislature. Abortion Free New Mexico has been working tirelessly to make sure this doesn’t happen by helping to get out the vote for pro-life candidates.

“Nearly $1,000,000 of our tax dollars that are already being paid out by New Mexico Medicaid over the past two years alone for 7,327 abortions should alarm us all and motivate us to act! While we can’t stop New Mexico Medicaid from funding abortions, we can work to prevent Michelle Lujan Grisham’s latest attempt to force us as New Mexican citizens to pay for an abortion center that will cater to out of state women seeking to kill their children by voting pro-life. It is vital that each New Mexican of conscience is mobilized to help get pro-life candidates elected in November. Early voting is right around the corner so time is of the essence to volunteer your time, talents and treasure to the candidate of your choice who will stand for life and make sure that Lujan Grisham’s nefarious plans don’t come to fruition,” stated Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico.

Action Needed: Contact ABQ City Council

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On August 15, 2022 the Albuquerque City Council will discuss and vote on reappropriating the $250,000 tax payer dollars that were approved in the city’s budget in May. Albuquerque residents have the opportunity to let their voices be heard in support of the reallocation of funds, either in person or by email using links below.

City Councilor Renee Grout is the sponsor of R-22-46 which will reallocate these funds to the Barrett House and Youth Homeless Shelters. Abortion Free New Mexico has referred numerous homeless women to the Barrett House over the years for shelter and assistance.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement:

“The decision made by the Albuquerque city council to give taxpayer money to Planned Parenthood sets an unconscionable precedent, tax paying citizens should never be forced to fund businesses that perform abortions or advocate for the killing of pre-born children. Abortion Free New Mexico is grateful to councilor Renee Grout, who proudly signed Abortion Free New Mexico’s a pro-life pledge, for taking a pro-active approach to redirecting these funds.”

Let’s support Councilor Grout’s efforts to redirect these funds. Please let your voice be heard as a resident of Albuquerque and respectfully ask these city councilors to support the reallocation of these funds so that they may be used to benefit women, children and youth.

    Please Support R-22-46

    Dear Council Member,

As a concerned citizen in New Mexico, I urge you to support R-22-46 reappropriating the funds originally designated to Planned Parenthood in the city budget. Planned Parenthood is a private, billion-dollar organization providing services that violate the consciences of many taxpayers. I believe it is a better use of taxpayer dollars to fund solutions to real and current issues such as our women, children, and youth homelessness.

    Thank you

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico believes in the power of prayer to change hearts, minds and to transform our culture! This is why we launched No Sidewalk Without the Savior in April of this year. Our goal is to have an unbroken chain of public prayer, on location, every hour that the UNM late-term abortion facility is open.

This is the most basic thing we as the pro-life community can do. We get to pray at our cities most darkest location and make ourselves visible to our community and available for women seeking abortions.

“Now more than ever, we need to pray collectively, publicly, and strategically. Our presence has the ability to reform The University of New Mexico – UNM so that they get out of the abortion business!” Bud Shaver, Abortion Free New Mexico

It is now more important than ever to get involved.

Abortion Free New Mexico invites YOU to sign up for the month of August and to pray for one hour a week. Our volunteers have shared with us what the Lord is doing in and through them during this time of prayer. Some have shared that they are full of so much joy while standing for such a worthy cause.

    Our Mission Continues

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico- In 2006 we made a commitment to the Lord to work to end abortion until Roe v. Wade was overturned or until the Lord called us home with Him. We NEVER imagined that our commitment would be fulfilled in 2022! Even though the end to Roe v. Wade has become a reality, our work to end abortion continues in New Mexico! While many lives will be saved throughout this nation and the healing of our land can begin, our work now is all the more significant.

We humbly ask for your fervent prayers for wisdom, strategy, guidance, provision and protection as we continue to be in the thick of the battle for LIFE here in New Mexico. Praise the Lord, that though we are currently experiencing an oppressive government and wickedness abounds, our God shows His power.

He truly is sovereign and able to do more than we can ask or imagine. THANK YOU for standing with us as New Mexico’s pro-life missionary family.

    IN THE NEWS:

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico was featured, the Sunday after Roe was overturned, in an article on  the front page of the LA Times, highlighting how New Mexico is ground zero and how we need to support pregnant women in a post Roe America.

    Here is an excerpt:

“While abortion advocates consider the coalition a sort of underground railroad for women in crisis, those who oppose the work — such as Tara Shaver, a local antiabortion advocate — say the system affirms Albuquerque’s reputation as the ‘late-term abortion capital of the world.’

On a recent afternoon, Shaver pulled her minivan up to a cemetery plot, called Baby Land, for infants and fetal remains she’d helped arrange with a priest. ‘Naomi Scarlette,’ one of the fetal grave plaques read. ‘June 1, 2017. Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.

”The term ‘abortion’ has lost all meaning, and this place brings it back,’ Shaver said.’We don’t need to shuttle women into New Mexico. We need to meet these women where they are and provide enough support that they don’t need to choose between their child’s life and their own.’Shaver organized a schedule with other Christians to ensure that at least one person is praying during every operational hour of local abortion clinics.”

Thank you for your continued prayers, support and for standing with us in this battle for LIFE.

  • Roe Overturned! Democracy Restored

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- In a 5-4 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade! Power has been restored back to the people, states all across the country can now enact and enforce just laws protecting the most vulnerable lives, those living and developing in their mothers womb.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

Today’s SCOTUS decision will save countless lives and ushers in a new era of building a culture that loves life across this nation.

The Supreme Court of the United States has finally reinstated democracy with the overruling of Roe v. Wade by restoring the legislative power back to the states. For far too many years the states have been prohibited from enacting life saving legislation that would protect babies and their mothers from the horrors and long term effects of abortion. The unjust halting of pro-life legislation across the nation by the lower courts and by judicial activism can now come to an end.

Abortion Free New Mexico is grateful that the States will now be able to enact and enforce life saving legislation that will protect the most vulnerable lives in our community, pre-born lives.

In New Mexico, our battle for life continues as we must now work harder than ever to support Pro-Life Candidates and take back control from the radical pro-abortion Democrats that have seized all levels of power, thwarting any common sense Pro-Life measures from being passed. New Mexico has been and will continue to be ground zero in our country for abortion tourism and a destination for the most extreme and barbaric abortions through all nine months of pregnancy.

Abortion Free New Mexico stands with the local Pro-Life community to build a stronger alliance to meet the needs of pregnant women and we renew our call for candidates on the 2022 election ballot to sign our Pro-Life Pledge as we work together to build a culture that loves life in our state.”

    Remembrance Headstone at Local Cemetery

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Every September Abortion Free New Mexico holds a memorial service for the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children at the only cemetery in the state where aborted children are buried. Over the last few years we have helped men and women place their aborted and miscarried babies names on remembrance headstones, in order to give them a place to grieve and heal from the loss of their beloved children.

Having an abortion weighs heavily on the hearts of many women. There is, however, healing through Christ as well as specific programs that can help prevent future abortions and also provide closure for both men and women impacted by abortion. Many healing programs include the naming of the aborted child.

Abortion Free New Mexico is acquiring another headstone for the Sandia Memory Gardens and is gathering names from the community to be placed on the remembrance stone.

    • If you or a loved one would benefit from this ministry and would like to have a baby’s name engraved on a remembrance stone please have them reach out to us by phone: 505-319-7825 or email: ShaverMissions@gmail.com before the end of June to submit their baby’s name.

We would also like to let our community know that there are numerous post abortion healing programs available and Abortion Free New Mexico highly recommends going through one of these programs to find healing from an abortion.

2022 Primary Election Analysis: Pro-Life Pledge Signers

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Now that the New Mexico primary election is over, here is Abortion Free New Mexico’s analysis of the candidates election results who signed our pro-life pledge and will  be on the November 8th general election ballot. These candidates have made a firm commitment to stand for life which has energized the pro-life community. All across the state the primary election results held on June 7, 2022 revealed that republicans are getting more engaged and many of the races in the upcoming general election on November 8, 2022 are winnable (when the republican primary voter turnout is compared with their democrat opponents).

Abortion Free New Mexico will continue to provide candidates an opportunity to sign our simple yet solid pro-life pledge to assure their constituents that they will defend life from conception to natural death.

“I pledge to defend life from conception to natural death. In making and keeping this pledge, I am committed to ending all abortion and all assisted suicide in the state of New Mexico.”

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

“It is encouraging to have so many republican voters rise up to support pro-life candidates and to see that in several of these races pro-life pledge signers have outright leads or are in a head to head race with their democrat opponents.

The pro-abortion community wants nothing more than to expand abortion in New Mexico. Abortionists from across the nation have their sights set on our state for abortion tourism that will bring big profits to their businesses. We stand with everyday New Mexicans who don’t want our state to be known as the late term abortion capital of the nation and we will work to elect new leaders who stand strong for our children in the womb. Abortion on demand is not a New Mexican value and is not healthcare for women.”

Together we can make a difference and change the direction of New Mexico.

UNM Committed To Expand Abortion Services In New Mexico with Assistance from the Federal Government

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On Thursday May 26, 2022 transgender Assistant U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary “Rachel” Levine toured the UNM Center for Reproductive Health free-standing abortion facility and pledged that the Biden Administration was committed to expanding abortion services in New Mexico in light of the leaked Supreme Court memo revealing the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade.

This visit came just nine days after Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico appeared on the Infowars War Room with Owen Shroyer detailing how New Mexico is currently the late term abortion capital of our nation and is poised to be, “ground zero for abortion period” once Roe v. Wade is overturned.

All-American Women Give Life To Their Children from Abortion Free New Mexico on Vimeo.

Levine, the Biden Administration representative, spoke to KOB 4 news and revealed the federal government’s radical abortion expansion agenda:

“It is absolutely critical for New Mexico to continue to allow the full range of reproductive health services that women need, including abortion services,” Levine said.

UNM officials told KOB 4 they’re committed to taking on extra patients.

“If the decision follows the outline of the draft, then it’s going to severely impact women’s reproductive health rights and the ability to receive the full range of services in many states,” Levine said. “To be able to provide those services for women in New Mexico, and for many other states, they need to look to expand those services. We’ll work to support them.”

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

“While many Americans oppose the use of federal funds to pay for abortions, and this is prohibited by the Hyde Amendment, it is egregious that the Biden administration has plans to work with the University of New Mexico to prop up the collapsing abortion industry and to utilize federal assistance to fund abortion tourism. These actions will only serve to further the culture of death in our state and the devaluing of human life in the womb.

Just as the federal government is desperately working to enable the University of New Mexico to expand abortion in our state, Abortion Free New Mexico is equally committed to meet the real needs of women in our community. Every day volunteers prayerfully position themselves outside the University of New Mexico abortion center and are prepared to let women know that there is hope and an abundance of pregnancy resources available to them.”

Abortion Free New Mexico is on the Front Lines

The pro-life community has an amazing opportunity to grow together as a powerful life saving force. Abortion Free New Mexico’s daily prayer campaign, No Sidewalk Without the Savior, is a practical way to bring the body of Christ onto the sidewalks in front of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion facility.

Here are a few glimpses of how Abortion Free New Mexico’s prayerful presence is making a difference:

    • From a Tuesday Volunteer: “A gentleman pulled up to the stop sign and called out to us telling us that he was not going to abort his baby, that he was going to keep his baby. He then did the sign of the cross and seemed so full of joy.
    • From a Thursday Volunteer: “We spoke with a gentleman about the Roe vs. Wade decision that so many are thinking and talking about right now. He seemed like maybe he was from another country but was very open to learn about the implications of this ruling. I know we gave him food for thought.
    • Dinah Vargas and Tara Shaver encountered a woman who was leaving the nearby motel. In a divine appointment she disclosed that she is pregnant, living in hotels and in desperate need of housing. We were able to give her resources and are keeping in touch with her to make sure she gets all of the help and support she needs. Please pray for the moms with housing needs as it can be a very long drawn out process for them.

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico has obtained additional information, including video and documentation, outlining how the Albuquerque City Council voted to give Planned Parenthood of New Mexico $250,000 for fiscal year 2023.

The vote in question was an amendment to the city’s operating budget. Each amendment requires a separate vote to be either approved or denied. The final outcome for Floor Amendment 13 below specifically states, that it “adds $250,000 for a Council directed sponsorship to Planned Parenthood of New Mexico” and was sponsored by Councilor Tammy Feilbelkorn. The  amendment also shows exactly who voted for it and who voted against it and two republicans voted for its passgage.

These Councilors voted to give funds to the nations largest abortion provider and the organization that is at the forefront of promoting depraved sex education to minors as well as recently began offering gender affirming hormone therapy. Planned Parenthood has a radical anti-family and anti-life agenda that targets women and children and should never receive one dime from taxpayers.

Abortion Free New Mexico would like to thank City Councilors Dan Lewis (R-District 5), Renée Grout (R-District 9) and Louie Sanchez (D-District 1) for voting against Amendment 13 in order to prevent the citizens of Albuquerque from forcible funding of the New Mexico abortion industry.

“Abortion Free New Mexico is renewing the call to republican City Councilors Brook Bassan and Trudy Jones to resign immediately and to issue a public apology to their constituents. There must be accountability for leaders that have made the citizens of Albuquerque involuntarily responsible for the atrocities occurring at Planned Parenthood of New Mexico. I’m sure that the constituents in City Council Districts 4 and 8 are not happy about this misuse of funds and should contact Bassan or Jones immediately to express disapproval and ask for their resignation,” stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.

TAKE ACTION: Abortion Free New Mexico urges you to contact councilors Bassan and Jones to express your disapproval of their actions and to urge them to resign immediately.

  • UPDATE: New Mexico Facility And UNM Settled Wrongful Abortion Death Suit For Total Of $1.26 Million

UPDATE: New Mexico Facility And UNM Settled Wrongful Abortion Death Suit For Total Of $1.26 Million

Operation Rescue assisted Abortion Free New Mexico with the initial investigation and exposure of this tragedy.

By Cheryl Sullenger, (Republished with the permission of Operation Rescue)

Albuquerque, NM – Southwestern Women’s Options, a full-term abortion facility located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has settled a major medical malpractice/wrongful death suit for $900,000.  According to the Albuquerque Journal, the settlement agreement was reached with the abortion facility last fall.

“Southwestern Women’s Option clinic, in settling its part of the lawsuit, sought a confidentiality provision to bar the parties from discussing the settlement. They are specifically not permitted to disparage the clinic or its doctors, according to the settlement agreement, which was filed as an exhibit in the lawsuit,” the newspaper reported.

Last month, the University of New Mexico agreed to pay the family of Keisha Atkins $365,000 to settle their part of the lawsuit that alleged UNM negligently referred Atkins to Southwestern Women’s Options where Atkins received a fatal multi-day abortion.  That settlement resulted in a full dismissal of the wrongful death suit in April.

That brings the total payout to Atkins’ mother, Tina Atkins, and her sister, Nichole, to over $1.26 million.

Southwestern Women’s Options’ owner, Curtis Boyd, reached the settlement during mediation in relation to allegations that “its subsequent treatment of Atkins fell below the standard of care and was negligent,” according to the Albuquerque Journal.

Atkins was 23 years old and six months pregnant when she sought an abortion at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health early 2017. That abortion facility determined that Atkins was too far along for a procedure there, so she was referred to Southwestern Women’s Options, which is one of the few abortion facilities in the U.S. that openly conducts abortions through all trimesters of pregnancy.

Once at SWO, Atkins underwent a multi-day late-term abortion. Before the process could be completed, Atkins was taken to UNM Medical Center where she died on February 4, 2017.

The Albuquerque Journal reported that Tina Atkins described during a deposition meeting her daughter in the hospital that fateful day when Keisha was still alive and talking.

Keisha was combative, and ‘a little bit delirious,’ Atkins said. But she could still talk. “The first thing that came out of her mouth was, ‘Mom, I’m going to die.’”

An autopsy was done at the University of New Mexico that listed Atkins’ cause of death as “Pulmonary Thromboembolism due to Pregnancy.”

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico, who was initially tipped to Atkins’ death, was among the first to receive a copy of the autopsy report. Suspicious that the cause of death blamed Atkins pregnancy instead of the abortion, Shaver asked Operation Rescue to review the autopsy results.

Operation Rescue’s staff, which is experienced in analyzing autopsy reports, found that the listed cause of death was untrue, and suspected that UNM was attempting to cover up the liability of UNM and SWO in Atkins’ death.

Operation Rescue discovered that the autopsy report itself noted that Atkins developed an infection during the multi-day abortion that turned septic. As a complication of the septicemia, she developed a clotting disorder. It was a blood clot found in her lung caused by the abortion process that eventually took her life – not her pregnancy.

At the time, Curtis Boyd commented in the Albuquerque Journal attacking Operation Rescue’s discovery:

For those who oppose women’s reproductive justice to exploit this sad event by putting forward lies about abortion and the patient’s care is sickening. We trust the citizens of New Mexico to be compassionate and understanding of the needs of women and to see through this inflammatory attack on women’s reproductive rights and on us.”

In the end, the settlements vindicated Operation Rescue’s findings and proved that it was Boyd who was lying to cover up his clinic’s negligence in Atkins’ death.

We are glad that the Keisha Atkins wrongful death case is now closed and that her family will receive a large settlement. I know that no amount of money will compensate them for the death of their loved one, but I pray it will bring closure to the family,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

“These agreements confirm a fatal level of negligence that wrongly cost a woman her life. Southwestern Women’s Options and the UNM Center for Reproductive Choice should be closed by the state to protect the public from any continued negligence.  Given the leftist nature of the current state government, I know that seems unlikely, but it was also unlikely that anyone would ever discover the truth about Atkins’ death that UNM’s autopsy tried to cover up. Yet we did uncover that truth, which eventually led to this $1.26 million payout, so anything is possible,” Newman concluded.

The case was handled by Abortion on Trial. More information about this case is available on their website.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement:

“Abortion Free New Mexico is thankful for the collaboration with Operation Rescue who assisted us with the initial investigation and exposure of this tragedy. Our hope is that the family of Keisha Atkins can find closure and peace and that her death will help serve to deter other women from choosing abortion. This $1.26 million dollar settlement should set a precedent that late-term abortions pose serious life threatening risks to women and that UNM should refrain from their participation in referring and providing abortion services. New Mexico tax dollars are funding these risky procedures through medicaid and now the tax payers are footing the bill for the abortion deaths of women.

    When will this insanity end?

Abortion Free New Mexico continues to be on the front lines ministering to vulnerable women targeted by the New Mexico abortion cartel, and also works tirelessly researching, investigating, and ultimately exposing the tragic consequences of an unregulated up to the day of birth abortion industry that is totally out of control in our state.”

    Prayer Matters- Sidewalk Testimony

    By Tara Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico wrapped up a successful full month of prayer in April with our No Sidewalk Without the Savior Campaign. We have our amazing team of volunteers to thank for making sure that each day people were present and praying for an end to abortion at the University of New Mexico.

One of our volunteers shared this testimony,I need to tell you what happened yesterday when praying at the clinic with Tom. A young lady walked all the way up the hill, started with ‘I am a Christian’ and told us she has 3 kids and just found out she is pregnant. She is barely making it now and is concerned about another baby. Her name is Samantha. Does not want an abortion but… Did not say she is married. We were struck with her concern for the future. We panicked to some extent. It is easy to pray “shut down this clinic” but tough to help someone going thru a real challenge. We prayed with her and gave her one of the resource packets.”This story demonstrates the importance of being present at the places where women seeking abortions are. If our team had not been there, this woman wouldn’t have local resources to pursue and she most likely wouldn’t have reached out for prayer because of the shame and stigma that is inevitable for women considering an abortion. It is a blessing to know that when the body of Christ is present opportunities arise and we can be the light in this dark world.

Join us tomorrow for Faith To Action Friday as we collectively come together to put our faith into action outside the UNM abortion center.

The University of New Mexico- UNM is at the heart of the abortion cartel in New Mexico, as a publicly funded institution UNM  performs late-term abortions up to 6 month, consistently promotes a culture of death and is actively training the next generation of abortionists.

BREAKING: Leaked Draft Ruling Reveals Supreme Court Voted To Overturn Roe v. Wade

    By Bud Shaver,

Breaking news as reported from Politico:

The Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and obtained by Politico.

The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes.

‘We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,’ he writes in the document, labeled as the ‘Opinion of the Court.’ ‘It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.’

The immediate impact of the ruling as drafted in February would be to end a half-century guarantee of federal constitutional protection of abortion rights and allow each state to decide whether to restrict or ban abortion. It’s unclear if there have been subsequent changes to the draft.”

    Politico noted,

No draft decision in the modern history of the court has been disclosed publicly while a case was still pending.”

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

If this is the end of Roe v. Wade in America, it will open the door for more states to pass life saving legislation and outlaw abortion outright. This decision will save countless lives and will give the states the ability to decide for themselves which laws can best protect women and their pre-born children. However, at the local level this is an even more urgent call to action in New Mexico, as abortion on demand will remain the status quo. We must work harder than ever from now until November to oust the democrats that have hijacked New Mexico with their radical pro-death agenda and have kept our state in bondage for over 90 years. Unless Republicans are elected across the state, late-term abortion through all nine months will continue unabated. In fact, New Mexico will become an even more targeted destination for abortion tourism.

If you are not currently involved in supporting candidates by volunteering or giving financially, time is of the essence. We must elect pro-life candidates in order for our state to be in a position to pass laws that will protect innocent life in the womb.”

We Will Continue To Give It Our All For A Better New Mexico!

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico– Thank you for continuing to lift us up in prayer, for your encouragement and your support. With your help and God’s provision, our family is doing everything we can to change the direction of our state. Just when we think we couldn’t possibly add one more thing to our plate, the Lord opens the door for new opportunities.

This month, we have been blessed with the ability to work at the grassroots level to not only pray and be a light in the darkness but to be proactive in our community as salt to help elect good leadership and preserve our God given rights. Please join us in our efforts if you are local and if not please continue to pray that New Mexicans want a change in leadership that will represent our conservative values and will fight for them.

Between now and November we will give it our all for a better New Mexico, as we also raise our children to love the Lord and to love the mission field that we have been called to serve.

You are a blessing to the moms, babies and future generations we are working to protect. Thank you for making our efforts possible. God bless you!

BREAKING: UNM PAYS FAMILY $365,000 FOR NEGLIGENT REFERRAL IN ABORTION DEATH CASE

As reported by Operation Rescue- The University of New Mexico has settled a negligent referral case with the family of Keisha Atkins, who died on February 4, 2017, as the result of a septic abortion she obtained at Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque, New Mexico. UNM agreed to pay $365,000 for referring Atkins to Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO) for an elective 24-week induction abortion that killed her. Operation Rescue first learned of Atkin’s abortion death after Abortion Free New Mexico received a tip that Atkins had died as the result of an abortion. Abortion Free New Mexico requested and received Atkin’s autopsy report then consulted with Operation Rescue over the confusing determination that she died from her pregnancy, not the abortion.

However, once the autopsy report was analyzed, it became obvious that the listed cause of death was untrue, and that UNM, which conducted Atkins’ autopsy, was attempting to cover up for SWO’s apparent negligence as well as their own liability in the tragedy. Over five years after Keisha Atkins’ avoidable death, attorneys with Abortion On Trial, who discovered more information about Atkins’ death and ensuing cover-up, were eventually able to reach a settlement agreement with UNM.

Successful Launch of No Sidewalk Without the Savior: Every Day Covered, Next Goal Every Hour!

On April 1, 2022 we launched our prayer initiative, “No Sidewalk Without the Savior” at the Isleta Church of Christ: Iglesia De Cristo which is he closest church, located 0.5 mile away, from the UNM Center for Reproductive Health- UNMCRH late-term abortion facility. Together we gathered for collective prayer & speakers, and prayer walked to the UNMCRH abortion facility.

In Matthew 18:20 Jesus tells us that, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

No Sidewalk Without the Savior is an effort to make sure that two people are prayerfully present outside of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion facility every hour that they are open. When the body of Christ is present and available, God is able to open hearts and minds to the reality of what is happening in our community and to also bring conviction to the women seeking abortions there. Abortion Free New Mexico is asking the pro-life community to come together and volunteer for just a one-hour weekly or monthly commitment at a location where the hope of Christ is so desperately needed.

During the first month of our prayer campaign, “No Sidewalk Without the Savior,” we are grateful to our volunteers and day coordinators who helped to make sure that the UNM late-term abortion facility had a prayerful presence every DAY they were open! Our next goal is to have prayer every HOUR that they are open. It’s going to take a small army to accomplish this but our God is able. Volunteers Needed.

  • BREAKING: UNM Must Pay Settlement After Woman is Killed in Botched 6-Month Abortion

BREAKING: UNM Must Pay Settlement After Woman is Killed in Botched 6-Month Abortion

By Micaiah Bilger, (This article originally appeared on LifeNews.com)

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Lawyers for the late Keisha Atkins, who died along with her unborn baby after a late-term abortion in New Mexico, achieved a victory this spring when the University of New Mexico agreed to pay a settlement in the case.

The pro-life organization Abortion on Trial said the university paid Atkins’ estate $365,000 after the UNM hospital was accused of negligently referring her to a late-term abortion facility that led to her death.

UNM should have never referred Keisha to Curtis Boyd’s outpatient abortion facility, Southwestern Women’s Options,” said Jamie Jeffries, executive director at Abortion On Trial. “It is unacceptable medical care to perform an induction abortion outside of a hospital. Practitioners everywhere should be aware that referring women to private abortion clinics can result in legal action and subsequent liability.”

In 2017, Atkins, 23, died shortly after her unborn baby was aborted at Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque; she was six months pregnant. Her lawyers said she died of sepsis after the abortion facility gave her “inconsistent and dangerously addictive drugs for days” and delayed transporting her to a hospital.

Abortionists Carmen Landau, Curtis Boyd and Shannon Carr also were sued for negligence in Atkins’ death.

Click here to sign up for pro-life news alerts from LifeNews.com

Jeffries said Atkins’ elective, late-term abortion was paid for by New Mexico taxpayers through Medicaid, and the settlement also will be paid for by taxpayers because the University of New Mexico is a public institution.

Attorney Mike Seibel with Abortion on Trial said they donated part of their attorneys’ fees from the settlement to help other mothers and babies in need.

Of the attorneys’ fees generated from the UNM $365000 settlement, I donated a good amount to pregnancy centers, sidewalk advocates, pro-life candidates and pro-life causes,” Seibel told the Pinon Post. “The money man intended to use for evil God turned to good. It’s time to win this battle.”

The case has prompted calls for state lawmakers to enact new safety regulations for abortion facilities. New Mexico has almost no regulations or restrictions on abortion. It does not require women to be informed of abortion risks or alternatives before an abortion, and it allows unborn babies to be aborted for any reason up to birth.

“The New Mexico Legislature has chosen many times to ignore the safety of the mother during a late term abortion,” state Rep. Rebecca Dow, R-Grant, said in a statement provided to LifeNews. “While I believe there are many alternatives to abortion, the simple truth is that a woman who opts to receive an abortion should receive the same information of the risks of the procedure that is afforded in every other medical environment.”

Atkins’ mother, Tina, and sister, Nicole, filed the wrongful death lawsuit on her behalf.

According to KOB News 4, Atkins went to the abortion facility Feb. 1, 2017, where her unborn baby was aborted. She was about six months pregnant.

Two days later, according to the lawsuit, she went back to the abortion facility complaining of breathing trouble and a high fever. After 10 hours, the abortion facility called for an ambulance to take Atkins to the hospital, and she died there a short time later, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit accused the University of New Mexico Hospital and Southwestern Women’s Options of medical malpractice, wrongful death and civil conspiracy in the lawsuit.

The late-term abortion facility also allegedly violated the New Mexico Unfair Trade Practices Act by telling Atkins not to go to the emergency room but to contact the abortion facility if she experienced a medical emergency.

Operation Rescue and Abortion Free New Mexico also suspected a cover-up. The groups obtained Atkins’ autopsy report along with a CAD printout of a 911 call from the abortion facility on the date of Atkins’ death. The groups said both documents raised serious questions about the mishandling of Atkins’ medical emergency, and aroused suspicions of an attempted cover-up involving the hospital, with which lead abortionist Curtis Boyd is connected.

  • REPORT: New Mexico Leads The Nation With The Highest Percentage of Late Term Abortions

REPORT: New Mexico Leads The Nation With The Highest Percentage of Late Term Abortions

Albuquerque, New Mexico- According to the most recent data, published in 2019 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), New Mexico unfortunately leads the nation with the highest percentage of late-term abortions. In other words, late-term abortions represent 11.6% of all abortions performed in New Mexico. TABLE 10 of the CDC Abortion Surveillance — United States, 2019 report shows that New Mexico performed 406 late-term abortions (over 21 weeks gestation) which was 11.6% of the total number of abortions performed in the state (3,485) that year. By comparison, of the 43 states that met the CDC’s reporting requirements, (Nine states, California, District of Columbia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York State, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin either did not report, did not report by gestational age, or did not meet reporting standards) Florida performed the most abortions according to TABLE 10 with 71,914 in 2019, however, 217 or 0.3% of the total number of abortions performed in Florida were over 21 weeks gestation.

Since 2010, Abortion Free New Mexico leaders Bud and Tara Shaver have reported (and coined the designation) that Albuquerque, New Mexico is the, “late-term abortion capital of the country” based on the groundbreaking research and undercover investigations that they have conducted. Virtually every major news source in the country has reported on this fact.

The New York Times was one of the earliest to report that Albuquerque, New Mexico is known as the “late-term abortion capital of the country” in 2013:

Albuquerque has become the latest flash point in the abortion wars, with Operation Rescue, the militant group based in Kansas, calling it the “late-term abortion capital of the country.” This is because a private clinic, Southwestern Women’s Options, is one of only a few nationwide that offers abortions after the sixth month of pregnancy.

The drive for a city referendum has been led here by a couple who trained with Operation Rescue in Kansas and moved here three years ago as anti-abortion “missionaries.”

“We felt called to come and serve in Albuquerque,” said Tara Shaver, 29. She and her husband, Bud, moved here largely to find a way to shut down Southwestern Women’s Options, she said.

The CDC report Abortion Surveillance — United States, 2019 published on November 26, 2021 confirms what Abortion Free New Mexico has been sounding the alarm on for many years.

It is important to note that while New Mexico performed the second highest number (406) of late-term abortions in 2019 behind New York City (1,096) only 2.2 percent of the total number of abortions performed (49,784) in New York City were late-term abortions. Additionally, according to a survey conducted by Abortion Free New Mexico, in conjunction with this report, no abortion clinic in the entire state of New York will perform an abortion beyond 24 weeks gestation. New Mexico on the other hand will perform full-term abortions up to the day of birth. In fact, Abortion Free New Mexico conducted an undercover investigation in 2017 that revealed that late-term abortionists at Southwestern Women’s Options located in Albuquerque, New Mexico will perform a full-term abortion at 37 weeks of pregnancy.

Undercover At 37 Weeks- Pressure to Abort! from Abortion Free New Mexico on Vimeo.

The designation that Albuquerque, New Mexico is the “late-term abortion capital of the country” takes into consideration not only the high number of late-term abortions performed after 20-21 weeks gestation, but also the fact that New Mexico has become the hub for abortion tourism where women travel to New Mexico for full-term abortions well into the third trimester because their state has either:

    1. Enacted common sense legislation prohibiting late-term abortions, or
    2. As is the case with the handful of radically pro-abortion states, where there aren’t necessarily laws restricting abortions, abortionists regulate themselves by refusing to perform abortions beyond a certain point.

For example, while New York performs abortions over 21 weeks gestation, women travel from New York to New Mexico to obtain third trimester abortions. In fact, in 2013 Abortion Free New Mexico leaders, with the help of Operation Rescue brought national attention to the fact that a woman was severely injured after traveling from New York to obtain an abortion at 35 weeks gestation at Southwestern Women’s Options, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Southwestern Women’s Southwestern Women’s Options, owned and operated by Curtis Boyd who specializes in third trimester abortions, is drawing women from all across the nation, and even the world, for the latest possible full-term abortions. Disturbingly, Albuquerque based late-term abortionist, Curtis Boyd, takes great pride in this. A fact that he openly admitted when asked in a 2017 interview,

So when he’s asked about what he thinks when he hears Albuquerque described as “the late-term abortion capital of the nation”—a term the Shavers take credit for coining—Boyd responds wryly.

“A great sense of pride,” he says.

It is necessary to note that both Maryland and Colorado are also destinations for third-trimester abortions, however Maryland did not meet the CDC reporting requirements and according to the CDC data, Colorado performed 173 late-term abortions (1.3 percent of the total abortion rate) in 2019 compared to 406 late-term abortions performed in New Mexico.

Late-term abortions are performed over a 3-4 day period. It includes an injection into the mother’s womb on the first day which causes a fetal heart attack. Over the course of the next few days, the cervix is artificially dilated so that the mother can be induced to deliver her stillborn child. This is called the induction method and occurs at an out patient clinic setting or in a local hotel. Late-term abortions are never performed when the mother’s life is at risk, the procedure alone takes too much time to benefit a woman who is in a dire situation. In fact, this abortion method has many risks and is responsible for the death of at least one local New Mexico woman, Keisha Atkins in 2017. A late-term abortion in New Mexico can cost as much as $17,000.

The University of New Mexico (UNM) also performs late-term abortions up to 24 weeks of pregnancy at their free standing abortion facility in Albuquerque, NM. This location in particular is the the focus of Abortion Free New Mexico’s “No Sidewalk Without the Savior” prayer campaign that is launching on April 1, 2022. Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

“New Mexico currently has zero laws protecting pregnant women and their unborn babies from dangerous and barbaric late-term abortions. It is the absence of laws and the unwillingness of our legislators to come to the table to seek the wellbeing of both mother and child that has made us an abortion magnet, even in the latest stages of pregnancy. Abortion Free New Mexico is working many angles to build a culture that protects life, because every life is unique, precious and unrepeatable.”

Albuquerque, NM– This is the latest installment documenting the abortion landscape in New Mexico and a continuation of Abortion Free New Mexico’s exposure of the radical abortion agenda at the University of New Mexico.

(VIDEO) WATCH THE LATEST SHOCKING REVELATION: COHORTS OF DEATH: UNDERCOVER AT 37 WEEKS EXPOSES UNM LATE TERM ABORTION COLLUSION

In Abortion Free New Mexico’s latest undercover project that has taken viewers inside the notorious Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO) late term abortion facility, the investigation has also uncovered that the University of New Mexico (UNM), a publicly funded institution, is willing to collude with late term abortionists to deliver dead babies at UNM Hospital once a deadly injection is administered by abortionists at SWO.

The price tag of a late term abortion at Southwestern Women’s Options is a staggering $17,000, but in a SHOCKING revelation, SWO employee Susana Estorga, states that for $5,000 they would be willing to offer the fetal injection ALONE and then send the woman away to deliver the baby 2-3 days later elsewhere.

    • The fetal injection administered by SWO abortionists kills the baby in the womb by slowly stopping their heart over 4-6 grueling hours.

If a woman opts to obtain the fetal injection at Southwestern Women’s Options, SWO has an expectation that other OB-GYN’s will oversee the completion of the labor and delivery of the stillborn child. However, most OB-GYN’s will not participate in abortions, especially at religious hospitals, like Presbyterian in Albuquerque, so SWO is apparently relying upon the University of New Mexico’s entrenched abortion agenda and utilizes an arrangement to ensure that “injection only” patients can labor and deliver their dead babies at UNM Hospital.

In an undercover phone call placed to the Women’s and Children’s Health Care Clinic at UNM Hospital, Tara Shaver with Abortion Free New Mexico also confirmed the fact that, Lily Bayat a UNM Fellow at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center would deliver the dead baby at UNM Hospital after Southwestern Women’s Options administered the lethal injection.

Lily Bayat holds positions at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences center in the Divisions of Family Planning and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynocology. In addition, Bayat receives an annual salary by the University New Mexico of $57,747 as a, “Visiting Instructor”.

(Second year Fellow- UNM Abortionist Lily  Bayat, MD)

“Abortion Free New Mexico has exposed just how deep the collusion is between the University of New Mexico and Southwestern Women’s Options to ensure that late term abortions continue up to the day of birth. Hospitals are meant to be places where the sick go for healing, but the abortion industry is utilizing them for their own sordid death agenda.” Tara Shaver, Spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico.

    GLARING CONTRADICTIONS

The Albuquerque Journal published an article on December 20, 2015 titled, UNMHSC halts training at private abortion clinic in it the ABQ Journal reported that, “UNMHSC officials said last week that they will no longer send medical fellows or residents to Boyd’s clinic, which is located in Downtown Albuquerque.”

However, UNM’s website contradicts that report and still clearly states, as of publishing time of this article, October 31, 2017…

“Fellows are trained in abortion and contraception care, using evidence-based medical and surgical methods. Training occurs primarily at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health, the Albuquerque Planned Parenthood Surgical Center, and Southwestern Women’s Options (Dr. Curtis Boyd). Later second and third trimester abortions are performed at UNM Hospital and at SWO.”

In addition, Southwestern Women’s Options is currently listed as a UNM Clinical Training Site.

Despite these glaring contradictions that show a continued relationship between UNM and SWO, Abortion Free New Mexico has conclusively confirmed that a current Fellow at the University of New Mexico, Lily Bayak, is willing to work with Southwestern Women’s Options patients to complete a late term abortion at UNM Hospital once the fetal injection is administered to kill the pre-born baby.

Abortion Free New Mexico’s Tara Shaver, uncovered the collusion via the Ryan Residency Training Program initiated by the University of New Mexico between Planned Parenthood of New Mexico, and Southwestern Women’s Options to train UNM residents to perform abortions in the first, second, and even third trimesters in 2011 with her first installment: Exposé: Tax Funded Abortion Training and the Betrayal of True Medicine at UNM.

Fr. Stephen Imbarrato: The Protest Priest with Priests for Life issued the following statement,

“The collaboration between Southwestern Women’s Options, UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion facility, and UNM Hospital shows that UNMHSC headed by Dr Paul Roth is the heart of the New Mexico Abortion Industry.

As a taxpayer, I am appalled that tax money pays for this unnecessary bloodshed! What is worse is the knowledge that Dr. Paul Roth’s right hand man, Ryan Cangiolosi is the head of the New Mexico Republican Party! This is the “statewide conspiracy of complacency and complicity” that we have been speaking about for a decade now!”

ACTION ITEM: Abortion Free New Mexico is asking that you contact the University of New Mexico Regents and respectfully ask them to STOP ALLOWING ABORTIONISTS AT UNM HOSPITAL TO PROMOTE AND PERFORM LATE TERM ABORTIONS AT THE EXPENSE OF NEW MEXICO TAX DOLLARS. In addition, respectfully ask them to PERMENANTLY cut all ties with Planned Parenthood of New Mexico and Southwestern Women’s Options.

PLEASE Contact the UNM Board of Regents:

IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW: UNDERCOVER AT 37 WEEKS- PRESSURE TO ABORT

By Bud Shaver, Abortion Free New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM- Abortion Free New Mexico has released a more in-depth interview with Felicia, who went undercover into Southwestern Women’s Options, the nation’s most notorious late term abortion facility, while 37 weeks pregnant. World Net Daily described the first video, released last week, documenting Southwestern Women’s Options willingness to perform an abortion as late as 37 weeks of pregnancy as “stunning.”

Felicia was the perfect operative to go inside to document just how far into the pregnancy Southwestern Women’s Options was willing to perform a late-term abortion since her son Jonah was diagnosed with Trisomy 18, while in utero as a result of two genetic tests. Two days after what would have been Felicia’s scheduled abortion appointment at 38 weeks of pregnancy she went into labor and he was born, perfectly healthy. In this video she shares more about the fetal diagnosis she received that resulted in pressure to have an abortion by her genetic counselor. She also shares words of encouragement aimed at women who may be facing a similar fetal anomaly diagnosis while pregnant and speaks to the sanctity of all human life.

“This project has uncovered the shocking reality that the medical community is knowingly relying on faulty and misleading genetic testing that leads women to local abortion facilities to kill their babies. According to known published studies, 60% of prenatal tests can come back with false positives on babies without any genetic defects,” stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.

NEW VIDEO: IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW: UNDERCOVER AT 37 WEEKS- PRESSURE TO ABORT

In this in-depth follow up interview, Felicia shares more about what it was like going into the late term facility. She discusses her emotions while inside, her interactions with clinic staff, and how the late term procedure is performed over 3-4 days. She also shares her reaction when told that the procedure will cost $17,000 and about how she was instructed to obtain New Mexico Medicaid to have the procedure paid for with state tax dollars.

Church Militant wrote up an extensive report about this latest project and an exclusive profile piece about our work over the past 7 years here in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

    Here is an excerpt:

Bud and Tara Shaver, pro-life advocates dedicated to ending abortion in America, were commissioned to Albuquerque by Operation Rescue in 2010. They have been working full-time to “bring our culture and community to a point … where New Mexico understands and embraces a culture of life.”

Church Militant spoke with Tara Shaver about their latest project, investigating Southwestern Women’s Options to see just how close to birth they were willing to abort. Shaver said, “We’d been praying for an informant or someone to come forward with information,” when Felicia (last name withheld) approached the group through a mutual friend…

Father Stephen Imbarrato, of Priests for Life issued the following statement,

“The teaching of the Catholic Church is clear. Every procured abortion is intrinsically evil. The undercover work of Abortion Free New Mexico exposes that abortion is not only legal in New Mexico, but is performed up till the day of birth funded with public tax dollars. As a Catholic priest, I am appalled at how many Catholic politicians and taxpayers in our state defy their Catholic faith and support this mass murder of the unborn. It is a conspiracy of silence that has brought us to this unacceptable and deplorable situation. The blood of these babies is crying out to heaven for justice yet the silence from every sector of our state is deafening.”

NEW VIDEO: UNDERCOVER AT 37 WEEKS- PRESSURE TO ABORT

By Bud Shaver, Abortion Free New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM- Abortion Free New Mexico released an undercover video that gives a rare look from inside the nation’s largest late term abortion facility, Southwestern Women’s Options. This video is 5 minutes long and combines raw footage of dialogue with clinic staff and also exclusive interviews with the undercover investigator detailing her unique account of what it was like to go inside of a late term abortion center while pregnant at 37 weeks gestation.

VIDEO: UNDERCOVER AT 37 WEEKS- PRESSURE TO ABORT

Felicia, the undercover investigator, had been given two genetic tests that were positive for Trisomy 18, also called Edwards’ Syndrome, that causes severe developmental delays due to an extra chromosome 18. This made Felicia the ideal operative for going inside Southwestern Women’s Options to uncover just how far into the pregnancy they would perform a third trimester abortion. During her consultation with Susana Estorga, a clinic employee, Estorga counsels Felicia and prepares her for the 4 day long procedure that begins with an injection into the womb through either the abdominal wall or vaginally. This injection causes a fetal heart attack that stops the baby’s heart over the course of 4-6 grueling hours. She is also told that the procedure will cost $17,000 and was instructed on how to obtain New Mexico Medicaid to have the procedure paid for with state tax dollars.

Two days after what would have been Felicia’s scheduled abortion appointment at 38 weeks of pregnancy she went into labor at home and later delivered a healthy baby boy.

    (Felicia and healthy baby Jonah!)

“Southwestern Women’s Options shows no bounds when it comes to performing late term abortions on babies with birth defects, even as late as 37 weeks gestation. In addition this case proves that there are, in fact, a percentage of women who receive false positive testing for birth defects diagnosed in utero. The inconclusive genetic testing and often misdiagnosis offered by genetic counselors are a death sentence for  vulnerable babies in the womb. This is an appalling revelation that the community at large must question, especially when these genetic tests are then used to pressure women into obtaining lucrative late term abortions that our latest video reveals can cost, up to $17,000,” stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.

Shaver has documented extensively how dangerous the late term procedure is. In fact, Abortion Free New Mexico received an anonymous tip that, in February, 2017 a woman died from complications incurred during the several day late term abortion procedure. Abortion Free New Mexico’s attorney then obtained the woman’s autopsy report, through a public records request, which shed light on how the late term abortion contributed to her untimely death.

Abortion Free New Mexico will be releasing a more in-depth interview in the coming days with Felicia about what she experienced inside Southwestern Women’s Options, including a personal message to pregnant women who may be facing a similar fetal anomaly diagnosis.

  • Looking Deeper: Analysis of Facts Proves Woman Died from Abortion — Not Pregnancy

Looking Deeper: Analysis of Facts Proves Woman Died from Abortion — Not Pregnancy

Operation Rescue is assisting Abortion Free New Mexico with an investigation of this tragedy.

Report by Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Vice President of Operation Rescue

Albuquerque, NM – Tara Shaver opened the mysterious letter that arrived in the mail. She could hardly believe what she was reading.

It was an anonymous tip that informed her a woman named Keisha Atkins had died from a late-term abortion on February 4, 2017.

Shaver and her husband, Bud, who lead Abortion Free New Mexico, have spent years laboring in the pro-life trenches in Albuquerque exposing the largest late-term abortion facility in the United States, Southwestern Women’s Options, and its connections to the publicly-funded University of New Mexico.

Due to their experience and training, once serving as interns for Operation Rescue, they immediately jumped into action. They filed a public records request for Atkins’ autopsy and established a valuable line of communications with her family. They discovered that Atkins’ abortion had been done at Southwestern Women’s Options, which made perfect sense since it alone in New Mexico specializes in late-term abortions throughout all nine months of pregnancy.

They consulted with Operation Rescue over the meaning of the autopsy report. Such reports are written in technical medical jargon that is sometimes difficult for anyone without a medical background to decode. However, this correspondent has been reading autopsies concerning abortion-related deaths for decades.

It did not take long to realize that as everything was not as it seemed.

At first glance, the cause and manner of death of this initially healthy 23-year old woman was made it appear that abortion was not even a factor in Atkins’s death. The cause of death was “Pulmonary thromboembolism due to pregnancy.” Her manner of death was natural.

In other words, the autopsy findings that a blood clot formed as a result of her healthy pregnancy and coincidentally at the moment of the abortion, it traveled to her lungs and killed her.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Once Operation Rescue and Abortion Free New Mexico announced Atkin’s death and released the public autopsy report, the Albuquerque Journal jumped all over it, declaring in their headlines, “Autopsy rules out abortion as cause of death.”

The newspaper cited the opinion of the UNM Office of the Medical Investigator that it was Atkins’ pregnancy that killed her, not the four-day late-term abortion process that Operation Rescue believes was mismanaged by eighty-year old abortionist, Curtis Boyd, and fumbled by UNM hospital where she died.

But as William Shakespeare once said, “Truth will out.”

No matter how much UNM may have tried to obfuscate what happened to Keisha Atkins, the truth seeps through in the pages of the autopsy report in descriptions of her physical condition and the complications she experienced in what must have been an excruciatingly panic-filled and painful death.

“Somehow, these people want us to believe that Atkins developed blood clots as a result of her pregnancy, and through no one’s fault, a blood clot just coincidentally moved to her lung and killed her in the middle of a late-term abortion, which, of course, played no part in her death,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “That’s ludicrous in light of the rest of the autopsy report findings.”

Here is what happened to Keisha Atkins, according to the autopsy report, information provided by her family, and documented information obtained through research by Operation Rescue.

Atkins reported to Southwestern Women’s Options, the nation’s largest late-term abortion facility, on January 31, 2017, to begin a four-day late-term abortion. She was at least six months pregnant, and may have been even farther along according to the tipster that contacted Tara Shaver.

    • Sometime during the ensuing days, something went wrong and Atkins developed a bacterial infection.
    • Possible sources for such infections during late-term abortions include:
    • Complications from the repeated insertion and removal of laminaria cervical dilators;
    • The fact that the baby in the womb is killed on Day 1 of the procedure and the woman must carry her dead fetus for days before completing the abortion;
    • Unsanitary conditions and/or practices by abortion facility staff.

On February 3, four days after her abortion process began, Adkins reported to Southwestern Women’s Options for the completion of her abortion. She was showing signs of a dangerous, systemic infection known as sepsis. She also displayed difficulty breathing as she was being prepared for labor. (Read more about how late-term abortions are done.)

Because of the seriousness of her condition, an ambulance was called at 12:04 p.m., but was later cancelled by the clinic, according to a 911 Computer Aided Dispatch transcript obtained by Operation Rescue. At some later point in the day, Atkins was transported by unknown means to UNM Hospital.

Once at the hospital, Atkins was tested for blood clots with negative results. The autopsy report made an effort to explain the rare false-negative test with one statistic that shows false negatives occur in as high as 10.7% of cases. (In other words, no one was at fault.)

Atkins continued to suffer shortness of breath and below base-line oxygen levels despite supplemental oxygen. She also experienced abdominal cramping pain, an elevated heart rate, and reduced ventricular function in her heart.

Additional tests of her placental tissue showed the presence of a bacterial infection. Post-mortem tests of her uterus also showed evidence of the infection.

Why is this significant to understanding the truth behind Atkins’ death?

Bacterial infections are a known trigger for a life-threatening condition called Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC).

DIC is a clotting disorder that begins with the rapid formation of small blood clots that block small blood vessels. As the clotting becomes more aggressive, it essentially strips the rest of the blood supply of the clotting factor. This typically results in hemorrhaging of the body cavity and various organs, including the brain.

In addition to bacterial infections, other causes of DIC can include retention of a dead fetus and surgery – both of which were documented in Atkins’ autopsy report.

Supposedly operating under a false-negative test for blood clots, UNM Hospital staff conducted a surgical Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) dismemberment abortion to remove the dead baby.

During the D&E procedure, Atkins suffered a fatal heart attack due to a blood clot in her lungs. Resuscitation efforts were so aggressive that her ribs were broken, yet they proved unsuccessful.

She also received “multiple blood product transfusions,” – a standard treatment for DIC – but to no avail.

Atkins was pronounced dead at 12:10 a.m. on February 4, 2017.

Atkins’ autopsy revealed “acute coagulopathy” as well as hemorrhaging in the brain (left adrenal gland), inside the abdominal cavity, and from the uterus. She also had a massive build-up of serous fluid around her lungs.

How do we know she hemorrhaged from the uterus when that is not specifically mentioned in the report? There was a curious notation in the initial description of Atkins’s body that stood out.

A Foley catheter was present that led through the cervix and into the uterus. A Foley catheter balloon is used to tamponade the inside of the uterus to stop heavy bleeding. (Such a procedure is described on page 24 of this unrelated medical board document.)

The UNM coroner’s determination that Atkins died from “Pulminary thromboembolism due to pregnancy” is suspect, at best.

These are a few of the symptoms described or strongly inferred in Atkins’ autopsy report thatthe coroner’s opinion does not account for

    • Uterine hemorrhaging;
    • Hemorrhaging in the brain;
    • Blood found in the abdominal cavity;
    • A large amount of serous fluid found around the lungs, (over 40 ounces);
    • Bruising of the extremities (another symptom of DIC).

The UNM cause of death also does not account for the multiple transfusions of blood products she was given at the UNM hospital.

These symptoms do not make sense in light of a random blood clot in the lungs. However, they do make sense in light of the clotting and hemorrhaging that exemplifies DIC.

It more likely that during Atkins’ four-day abortion process — during which she retained the body of her dead baby — a bacterial infection turned septic and initiated a fatal cascade of symptoms associated with Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation.

It is Operation Rescue’s opinion, based the facts found in the autopsy report, that the UNM cause of death determination is simply not the truth.

The abortion facilities involved in patient deaths first try to conceal the fact that a patient died. If that doesn’t work, the abortion businesses immediately attempt to deny any culpability for their patient’s death.

What is the easiest way to do that? Whitewash the truth by blaming the woman and/or her pregnancy.

The leftist mainstream media is usually a willing co-conspirator in the cover up, and the response to the Atkins death was no exception.

Once Operation Rescue and Abortion Free New Mexico announced Atkin’s death and released the autopsy report – a public record — the Albuquerque Journal jumped all over it, declaring in their headlines, “Autopsy rules out abortion as cause of death.”

The newspaper cited the opinion of the UNM Office of the Medical Investigator that it was Atkins’ pregnancy that killed her, not the four-day late-term abortion process that Operation Rescue believes was mismanaged her eighty-year old abortionist, Curtis Boyd, and fumbled by UNM hospital where she died.

UNM’s own autopsy report described in detail compelling evidence that it was complications from the abortion process that killed Keisha Atkins – not her pregnancy.

There can be no doubt that if Keisha Atkins had not endured the process of a four-day late-term abortion, she would be alive today.

So why the attempt to obfuscate the true cause of death?

UNM and Southwestern Women’s Options are partners in the trade in aborted baby remains. SWO is the sole supplier of aborted baby tissue and organs to UNM. Both are under criminal investigation by the Attorney General’s office based on a complaint filed by Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico and criminal referrals issued by the House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives.

This gives them UNM and SWO motive to nefariously ascribe the death of Keisha Atkins to her pregnancy in order to prevent another abortion-related scandal in the middle of a criminal investigation into their alleged participation in the illegal baby body parts trade.

This may also be why there was no notation of the weight of the dismembered remains of Atkins’ baby in the autopsy report. While the baby’s remains were present during the autopsy, revealing the weight might also reveal the truth about how far along Atkins’ pregnancy really was.

On a side note, some have expressed misplaced concern that the autopsy report was made public, and that its release may have compromised Atkins’ privacy, or more absurdly, her legal rights as a dead person. In reality, there is no legal issue with making a public document available to the public.

In fact, its release is actually a public service. The people have a right to know what is going on at SWO and UNM, especially because they are both recipients of public funds. They have a right to know that not everything is as it appears in the left-wing Albuquerque Journal.

When abortion is involved, concealing the truth that seeps through in these public documents only serves to aid the abortionists and their associates, who are desperately trying to diffuse any controversy around Atkins death.

Tara Shaver’s anonymous tipster apparently had a sense that something was very wrong in the way Keisha Atkins’ death occurred and how it was handled after the fact. And that person’s instincts were right.

If this information can prevent others from suffering Atkins’ fate, it is morally imperative to make sure the public – as well as the authorities investigating UNM and SWO — knows about it.

Operation Rescue urges the New Mexico Medical Board and the Attorney General’s office to aggressively investigate Keisha Atkins’ death, and bring those responsible for it and its cover-up to justice.
