THEY PRAYED FOR A SIGN. GOD SENT ONE

    Dear Pro-Life Friends and Supporters,

Today, Saturday June 6, 2026, we witnessed a powerful reminder of why we faithfully show up on the sidewalks.

Outside one of Albuquerque’s busiest abortion facilities, Tara noticed only one vehicle in the parking lot. What she couldn’t see was that God had already arranged a divine appointment.

A young couple from Amarillo, Texas, had driven to Albuquerque seeking an abortion. As Tara approached them with a Bible, a fetal model, and an offer to pray, tears filled the young mother’s eyes.

When Tara asked what she believed God would want her to do, she answered immediately:

“God would want me to keep my baby.”

As they talked, the couple shared that during their drive they had prayed together and asked God for a sign. Neither of them truly wanted to go through with the abortion, but they couldn’t see another way forward.

They spoke about their faith, their supportive families, and their future together. As the conversation unfolded, fear gave way to hope.

When I asked what they planned to do, the young man smiled and said:

“We’re not going to go through with the abortion.”

    Praise God!

Before leaving, both of them embraced Tara in a heartfelt hug. In that moment, it was impossible not to recognize what had happened.

A couple prayed for a sign. God sent one.

This is why we stand on the sidewalks. Every week, men and women arrive carrying burdens, fears, and questions. Sometimes all it takes is one faithful Christian willing to offer truth, hope, prayer, and practical help.

Could God Use You to Be the Answer to Someone’s Prayer?

Join us for our upcoming Sidewalk Counseling Training:

Whether you’re new to sidewalk outreach or looking to grow in confidence, we’ll equip you to engage abortion-vulnerable women and families with grace, truth, and compassion.

The next person praying for a sign may be waiting for someone just like you.

Please pray for this young couple and their baby—that they would stand firm, grow closer to God, and experience the love and support they need as they welcome their child into the world.

Thank you for your prayers and faithful support. Together, we are witnessing lives saved, families strengthened, and hearts transformed by God’s grace.

    For Life,

  • OPINION PART THREE: DON’T BE POLITICAL – UNLESS IT’S THE RIGHT POLITICS

OPINION PART THREE: DON’T BE POLITICAL – UNLESS IT’S THE RIGHT POLITICS

    By Bud Shaver

In Part Two of this series, I examined how many New Mexico churches have retreated from the public square under the familiar refrain, “We don’t want to be political.” Yet recent events reveal a contradiction that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. Certain churches and religious leaders are not avoiding politics at all. Rather, they appear selective about which political issues—and which politicians—receive their public attention.

Few examples illustrate this more clearly than the ongoing debate over immigration. Across New Mexico, church leaders and religious institutions have openly engaged immigration policy, issued public statements, encouraged advocacy efforts, and criticized various immigration enforcement policies advanced by President Donald Trump and his administration. Whether one agrees with those positions is beside the point.  The reality is that these leaders believe faith has a legitimate role in shaping public policy–and they are willing to engage publicly on issues they consider matters of moral importance.

The pattern is not limited to Catholic leaders. Episcopal leaders, mainline Protestant denominations, interfaith coalitions, and religious advocacy organizations have likewise spoken publicly against various immigration enforcement policies, often framing their positions as matters of faith, justice, and moral responsibility. Regardless of one’s view on immigration policy, these examples demonstrate that many religious leaders believe faith has an important role to play in shaping public debates and influencing public policy.

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico observes:

“When church leaders publicly challenge President Trump’s immigration policies, nobody argues that faith should stay out of politics. But when Christians speak about abortion, suddenly they’re told the Church should remain neutral. The issue isn’t whether churches engage politics. The issue is why faith is welcomed into some policy debates while excluded from others involving the most basic right of all—the right to life.”

At the same time, New Mexico has experienced one of the most dramatic expansions of abortion access in the nation. Through investigative reporting, public records requests, legislative monitoring, and field research, Abortion Free New Mexico has documented the growth of abortion facilities, taxpayer-funded abortion infrastructure, abortion tourism, interstate abortion trafficking networks, and the repeal of statewide abortion reporting requirements through SB 30.

These developments were debated in legislative hearings, documented through public records, and extensively covered at AbortionFreeNM.com. Yet while immigration policy generated public statements, advocacy campaigns, and political engagement from many religious leaders, abortion expansion often generates comparatively little public response.

The contradiction becomes even more striking when some of New Mexico’s most prominent Catholic politicians publicly invoke faith while advancing abortion policies that have transformed New Mexico into one of the most abortion-friendly states in America. During debate surrounding SB 30, Senator Cindy Nava publicly referenced her Catholic faith while defending legislation that repealed New Mexico’s abortion reporting requirements.

That moment illustrated one of the central tensions explored in this article. Faith was not being excluded from the debate—it was being invoked in support of a policy that reduced public abortion transparency. Many Christians are left wondering why faith is welcomed when used to defend abortion-related policies but often criticized when used to advocate for unborn children, abortion transparency, or greater public accountability.

At the same time, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and numerous legislators who publicly identify as Catholic have supported policies that include abortion expansion, abortion shield protections, taxpayer-funded abortion facilities, and the repeal of abortion reporting requirements.

To be fair, this is not simply a Catholic-versus-Evangelical issue. Archbishop John Wester, the New Mexico bishops, Fr. Larry Brito and St. Anne Parish, Legacy Church, and many other faithful leaders deserve recognition for publicly affirming the sanctity of human life and demonstrating that courageous public witness is still possible.

Yet many Christians are left asking an uncomfortable question: If church leaders are willing to publicly challenge presidents, federal agencies, and elected officials on immigration and other policy matters, why is there comparatively little public accountability directed toward politicians who continue advancing abortion expansion in New Mexico?

The inconsistency is not merely about issues. It is also about accountability.

Legacy Church in Albuquerque has consistently encouraged civic participation, hosted nationally recognized speakers such as Charlie Kirk, and welcomed Abortion Free New Mexico to conduct sidewalk outreach and counseling training seminars. Likewise, Fr. Larry Brito and St. Anne Parish in Santa Fe demonstrated a willingness to publicly defend pro-life principles despite significant criticism and controversy.

These examples demonstrate that public engagement is possible. The concern raised in this series is not that every church is silent. Rather, the concern is that courageous public engagement on behalf of unborn children has increasingly become the exception rather than the expectation.

    As Tara Shaver concludes:

“Some churches have demonstrated tremendous courage by engaging difficult issues regardless of the political consequences. Archbishop John Wester, the New Mexico bishops, and many Catholic leaders have consistently affirmed the sanctity of human life. Likewise, Legacy Church has demonstrated that public engagement is possible by encouraging civic participation, hosting nationally recognized speakers, and opening its doors to Abortion Free New Mexico for pro-life outreach and training.”

“The issue isn’t whether churches engage politics. Many already do. The question is whether that same moral courage will be applied consistently—to political issues, political leaders, and public policies alike.”

“If faith has a place in challenging presidents, it has a place in confronting abortion. If faith has a place in shaping public policy, it has a place in defending unborn children. And if faith belongs in debates about justice, it belongs in debates about life. New Mexico’s unborn children deserve a Church—and people of faith—willing to speak with the same courage, conviction, and consistency they bring to every other issue.”

When faith is welcomed in some public debates but discouraged in others, people inevitably begin to wonder whether the standard is Scripture or politics dressed in religious language.

That is a question New Mexico’s churches can no longer afford to ignore.

Friday, January 30 – Join Us in Prayer at the New Mexico State Capitol

    Dear Pro-Life Friends,

As the 2026 New Mexico Legislative Session is underway, we are reminded that the most important work we can do for our state is to pray — for our leaders, for wisdom in governance, and for the people of New Mexico.

We warmly invite you to join us for a Prayer and Worship Gathering at the New Mexico State Capitol, sponsored by Concerned Women for America of New Mexico, on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 1:45–4:00 p.m. in the Capitol Rotunda.

Faith leaders and believers from across New Mexico will gather to lift up our legislators, our communities, and the many issues facing our state. The time together will begin with prayer and worship inside the Rotunda and conclude with a Jericho March around the Capitol (weather permitting).

Scripture reminds us of God’s promise:

“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
    — 2 Chronicles 7:14

At Abortion Free New Mexico, we believe prayer is not symbolic — it is foundational. As leaders, parents, and citizens, we have the opportunity to stand together in humility and unity, asking God to guide those entrusted with authority and to bring healing to our land.

We hope you will join us and consider sharing this invitation within your church and community. Let us fill the Capitol with prayer, worship, and faithful intercession during this critical legislative session.

We would be honored to stand with you.

    In Christ,

  • Sanctity of Human Life Sunday: Lives Saved, Hope Restored

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday: Lives Saved, Hope Restored

    Dear Friends,

This Sunday, January 18, 2026, churches across the nation will observe Sanctity of Human Life Sunday — a day set aside to joyfully affirm that every human life is a precious gift from God, created in His image and worthy of protection and love from the moment of conception to natural death.

Scripture reminds us of God’s intimate care for each life:

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” — Psalm 139:13–14

Every church community has the privilege of standing for life — not only by speaking truth, but by extending compassion, hope, and practical support to women and families facing difficult decisions.

God Is Moving — Lives Are Being Saved

As we begin 2026, we are already witnessing God’s hand at work in powerful ways.

So far this month, Abortion Free New Mexico’s sidewalk outreach teams have helped three mothers choose life for their babies. These moments are why our teams remain faithful, prayerful, and present.

Here are a few glimpses of what God has done:

    • A New Mexico couple encountered our volunteers praying outside an abortion facility. After seeing the love and peace of those praying, they came back out and shared that they had chosen life for their baby.

    • A woman who traveled from Texas arrived in Albuquerque seeking an abortion. Initially overwhelmed and resigned, she spoke with one of our mentors who lovingly shared the truth about abortion’s harm to women, God’s design for life, and the hope found in obedience to Him. She was assured she would not be judged, but supported. Within minutes, she returned with a smile, called for a ride back to the airport, and chose to keep her baby. She left with an Embrace Grace Love Box and ongoing support.

    • Another mother reached out on a Saturday, hoping for a free ultrasound. Although local pregnancy centers were closed, she returned to her home state — and soon after shared that she had decided to keep her baby.

    These are not statistics.

These are mothers, babies, and families forever changed.

    Join Us in Honoring Life

On this Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, we invite you to partner with us — through prayer, service, or a financial gift — as we continue to stand in the gap for women and children in New Mexico.

Your support allows our teams to be present, prepared, and compassionate — offering truth, prayer, and tangible help at the moment it matters most.

Thank you for standing for life and for being part of what God is doing through Abortion Free New Mexico.

    With gratitude and hope,

Texas Mom Delivered Her Baby Yesterday

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico is proud to announce the arrival of Baby Ezra, whose mom chose life last year after meeting Tara outside of a local abortion center. Mama E was already wavering in her decision but because we were there, she was given the hope and help needed to to say an emphatic yes to LIFE.

The picture of Baby Ezra above is what putting our faith into action produces. Mama E was assigned a mentor that has lovingly supported and discipled her since September and she has grown so much during this time.

We are so grateful for the pro-life community that surrounded her with love from the very beginning and has continued to pray for her. We rejoice over the birth of Ezra and we know that the Lord has great plans for him and his mom. Thank you for partnering with us to build a culture that loves life in New Mexico.

Prayerfully consider joining our sidewalk team, we need compassionate voices to speak up for the moms and babies flooding into our state each week. Training is provided.

  • New Mexico Legislators Seek To Shield Abortionists From Public Scrutiny

New Mexico Legislators Seek To Shield Abortionists From Public Scrutiny

    By Bud Shaver,

Santa Fe, New Mexico- An abortion specific bill was recently passed by the New Mexico Senate, that will soon be voted on in the House floor, it will censor public records requests pertaining to abortion providers resulting in withholding important public information from the taxpaying citizens of New Mexico.

Senate Bill 57, Medical Provider Patient IPRA Info, seeks to prevent the public from knowing the names of abortion providers, employed by a public body, in New Mexico.

According to the Secretary of State’s website,

The Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA), NMSA 1978, §14-2-1 to – 12, is a New Mexico state law that provides the public access to public records. The law requires open access to almost all public records in state and local government, with a few exceptions.”

Several entities submitted bill analysis’ regarding Senate Bill 57 and according to the Department of Health’s (DOH) Bill Analysis, the University of New Mexico (UNM) is the entity that will be most affected by this legislation because as a public institution they employ abortionists. In addition, the DOH supports this bill because it will help recruit new abortionists to operate in New Mexico.

The New Mexico Department of Health analysis stated,

“It can be challenging to recruit and retain an adequate number of health care professionals to work in the field of reproductive health given the increasing demand and political spotlight on this type of medical care. This new exception to the IPRA act may help recruit and retain qualified and talented health care professionals to work in New Mexico in reproductive health care and thereby increase the availability of treatment options for persons in need of such services.”

In 2024, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that her administration launched a $400,000 ad campaign throughout Texas to recruit more abortionists to New Mexico.

    Picture

The University of New Mexico’s own analysis of the bill stated that it will relieve a burden on fulfilling IPRA requests related to abortion at UNM, even though only 24 requests have been submitted this year. They claim that IPRA’s specific to their free standing abortion center, UNM Center for Reproductive Health, targets abortion providers and take too much of their time. However, the public has a right to know how their taxpayer dollars are used, especially at public institutions, and just how much is paid through Medicaid for abortions. The Albuquerque Journal recently referenced our efforts to obtain public 911 records documenting numerous abortion related injuries being sustained at abortion clinics across New Mexico, including several at the UNM Center For Reproductive Health abortion center, in defense of this legislation. However, that was just disinformation because none of the 911 calls obtained by Abortion Free New Mexico revealed any identifying information about the individuals performing the abortions. That information is already being redacted, in fact, now 911 calls from abortion facilities in New Mexico are being suppressed from public scrutiny altogether citing HIPPA protections.

How hypocritical of UNM to support this legislation to cover up the names of abortionists yet they currently have a Sunshine Portal where the public can see how much every doctor at UNM is paid. One such abortionist is Lisa Hofler, who makes $540,000 a year or $45,000 a month. How much of her salary is paid for by those of us who do not support the killing at UNM? If abortion providers want to be excluded from public scrutiny they should stop receiving tax dollars to fund their barbaric practices.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

“One of the main problems with Senate Bill 57 is that most if not all of the individuals performing abortions are being reimbursed by New Mexico Medicaid which is funded by state tax dollars.

It is a complete violation of the public trust to not disclose where taxpayer money is spent. The lack of transparency in the New Mexico government is appalling and it just keeps getting worse.

Pro-lifers have a long history of utilizing public records requests to identify abortion providers who have lost their medical license due to medical negligence or malpractice. In many documented instances abortionists have even killed women during abortions. The general public, and especially women seeking abortions, should have access to this information. Abortion providers shouldn’t be exempt from public scrutiny, whereas other medical practitioners are accountable to the public in every other field of legitimate medicine.

Abortion Free New Mexico is urging the public to contact their New Mexico State representative and ask them to vote NO on Senate Bill 57.”

  • New “Queer” Abortion Center Performing All Trimester Abortions In Albuquerque

New “Queer” Abortion Center Performing All Trimester Abortions In Albuquerque

(Pictures above from the Valley Abortion Group social media pages. Top Left: Abortion center leaders pictured with Notorious Late Term Abortionist Shelley Sella.)

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- A new “queer”  led abortion center has opened up in Albuquerque that performs abortions in all three trimesters. The Valley Abortion Group, also known as VAG clinic, was in its early stages of planning by third trimester abortionist, Carmen Landau when she died suddenly in October of 2022 at an illicit drug use conference. This is now the sixth abortion center operating in the city of Albuquerque.

It’s All About AbortionNo other services are offered except abortion at the Valley Abortion Group. As with most abortion centers, they are heavily leaning on multiple abortion funds to help women get their abortions for free. They even help with travel coordination, presumably primarily for those coming from out of state. In 2023, over 14,000 women from Texas came to New Mexico to end the lives of their children via abortion.

Valley Abortion Group performs elective abortions up to 32 weeks of pregnancy and in the third trimester they utilize the grisly M.O.L.D procedure that was crafted by late term abortionist George Tiller.

MOLD is an acronym for the four products employed in the abortion process: Misoprostol, Oxytocin, Laminaria, and Digoxin.

This induction abortion method takes 3-4 days to complete. On the first day the woman is given an ultrasound to determine the gestational age of her baby. Then, with the aid of the ultrasound to guide the abortionist, a lethal dose of the heart medication Digoxin is injected into the baby’s heart one of two ways: either directly through the mother’s abdomen or via the mother, vaginally. Digoxin gives the baby a fatal heart attack. This is an off-label application of the drug, which was developed and approved as a treatment for heart disease.

After the Digoxin injection, the woman’s cervix is packed with laminaria, thin tampon-like sticks made of seaweed that expand the cervix gradually over the next day.

The next day, the woman is repacked with larger laminaria sticks and given Misoprostol to prepare her for active labor.

On the final day of the abortion, the woman is given the drug Oxytocin, which induces contractions and the onset of labor. Women then are placed in a room where they endure the labor process. When it is determined that the labor has progressed to the stage where the baby is about to be delivered they often deliver their stillborn child in a toilet or basin.

Valley Abortion Group charges $12,500 for a 28 week abortion and at 32 weeks of pregnancy the cost is a staggering $17,500. New Mexico is one of 17 states that uses state tax dollars through Medicaid to fully fund abortions.Mixed MessagesThis radically progressive Valley Abortion Group

is seemingly trying to set itself apart from traditional abortion centers by claiming that there is a problem with “inequity.”

The Valley Abortion Group (VAG) Facebook page states that,

“At VAG our providers deliver care through an antiracist, survivor-centered, trauma-informed approach”

    and that,

    “All Genders Have Abortions.”

Apparently this just means that, to them, all the other abortion providers in New Mexico are racist bigots. Another big emphasis on their social media pages is a call to, “Free Palestine.”

“The Valley Abortion Group leaders seem very confused and unstable with fringe
allegiances, ranging from the ‘queer’ community, which are physically unable to reproduce, to Palestinians in Gaza who are not indigenous to New Mexico. One thing is for sure, they are proudly hell bent on ending the lives of pre-born children up to the day of birth. No matter how hard they try though, they’ll never get rid of abortion stigma and rightly so, it’s not normal for mothers to intentionally take the lives of their pre-born children,” stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.”

According to the NPI RegistryThanh-Tam Ho a Certified Nurse Midwife, at the University of New Mexico is the co-medical director of the Valley Abortion Group. It also appears that Miriam McQuade, MD is affiliated with this abortion center.

The Abortion Free New Mexico sidewalk teams will begin reaching out to pregnant women at this new location to offer prayer, hope and resources to help them choose life for their babies.

    Tara Shaver continued,

“The last thing New Mexico needs is another abortion provider. New Mexicans need to come together to build a culture that views motherhood as a beautiful gift and children as a blessing. So many leftist ideologies have permeated our culture and since there are no common sense laws such as waiting periods, informed consent or gestational limitations pregnant women in crisis are vulnerable to the predatory abortion industry. Abortion is innately traumatizing to a woman’s body, mind and soul. The Valley Abortion Group is unfortunately contributing to the degradation of women by only offering abortion procedures instead of real life resources that empower women to motherhood.”

ABORTION FREE NEW MEXICO CALLS UPON TRUMP TO FREEZE FUNDS USED BY NM MEDICAID TO FUND ABORTIONS

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On January 24, 2025 President Donald J. Trump issued an Executive Order reinstating the Hyde Amendment.

The Executive Order, “Enforcing The Hyde Amendment” stated in part,

Section 1.  Purpose and Policy.  For nearly five decades, the Congress has annually enacted the Hyde Amendment and similar laws that prevent Federal funding of elective abortion, reflecting a longstanding consensus that American taxpayers should not be forced to pay for that practice.  However, the previous administration disregarded this established, commonsense policy by embedding forced taxpayer funding of elective abortions in a wide variety of Federal programs.

It is the policy of the United States, consistent with the Hyde Amendment, to end the forced use of Federal taxpayer dollars to fund or promote elective abortion.”

On Tuesday January 28, 2025 President Donald J. Trump announced an abrupt freeze on broad swath of federal payments.

The Trump administration will temporarily stop payments on multiple federal programs Tuesday evening [.]”

It was unclear how this freeze on federal funds would impact Medicaid.

Democratic U.S. senators reported Medicaid portals in all 50 states were down on Tuesday.”

However, a subsequent document issued from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) stated,

“In addition to Social Security and Medicare, already explicitly excluded in the guidance, mandatory programs like Medicaid and SNAP will continue without pause.”

Interestingly though, this document clearly indicated that programs affected by this freeze on federal funds must adhere to President Donald J. Trumps recent Executive Orders including the, “Enforcing The Hyde Amendment”.

New Mexico is one of the most dependent states upon federal funds to cover Medicaid. According to Google AI,

    • In 2022, the federal government covered 84.6% of New Mexico’s Medicaid costs.
    • Medicaid is the largest expenditure in New Mexico’s budget.

New Mexico Medicaid 100% funds full-term abortions.

New Mexico Medicaid 100% funds full-term abortions. In fact, in a recent report, Abortion Free New Mexico exposed that the New Mexico Department of Health website indicated that New Mexico Medicaid would fund abortions for minors and even illegal immigrants!

In this bombshell report Abortion Free New Mexico brought the receipts. Here are screen shots from the New Mexico Department of Health website, links therein and related links:

Abortion Free New Mexico took to social media and asked President Trump’s Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt,

Can President Donald J. Trump and The White House ensure that NO federal funds will continue to fund full-term abortions in New Mexico?”

Tara Shaver issued the following statement,

Abortion Free New Mexico is calling upon President Donald J. Trump and his administration to immediately freeze federal funds to New Mexico that are being used by New Mexico Medicaid to fully fund full term abortions.”

    Shaver continued,

New Mexico Democrats have created an ‘abortion free for all’ in our state that has opened the door for minors, illegal immigrants and out of state residents to kill their children via abortion using public tax dollars! Enough is enough.”

UPDATE: Assault W/ Deadly Weapon & Larceny Charges Filed Against Abortion Center Assailant

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Charges have been filed with the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) against assailant, Derek Moore, for the altercation that occurred outside of Whole Woman’s Health abortion center, on August 15, 2024 involving Abortion Free New Mexico leader, Bud Shaver.

According to the police report two separate charges were filed against Derek Moore:

    1. Aggravated Assault With Deadly Weapon
    2. Larceny – Miscellaneous Under $250

The larceny charge (under $250) is a petty misdemeanor and the aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge is a 4th degree felony in the state of New Mexico carrying a maximum sentence of 18 months imprisonment.

Moore admits to swerving his car, toward Bud Shaver, while driving past Whole Woman’s Health abortion center, but claims to have been:

“distracted and accidently pulled to close to a curb, then swerved back into his lane and continued on his way.” [sic]

On the day of the incident however, Derek Moore seemingly admits to attempting to run down Bud Shaver, when confronted on video, he derisively states,

“Call the cops, they aren’t going to do anything.”

Responding to the police concerning the larceny charge (stealing a pro-life sign):

“Derek stated he saw someone (Shaver) obstructing the sidewalk with a bunch of garbage, so he parked his car. Derek stated he then went and picked up a piece of the garbage to ‘throw it out’. Derek stated (Shaver) followed him and called him a communist. Derek stated (Shaver) was having an ‘illegal protest and obstructing the sidewalk’.”

Thankfully, the incident was recorded on video and the evidence speaks for itself. Please pray that justice is served and that Mr. Moore comes to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

Abortion Free New Mexico has daily teams of sidewalk counselors outside of three local abortion centers throughout Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their signs contain positive messages offering help and hope to abortion bound women. They also have tangible help on hand: baby items, Love Boxes, and a vast wealth of resources to offer the mom’s. The teams maintain a peaceful, prayerful, free speech presence while exercising their 1st Amendment rights and abide by all local and state laws.

Read the full police report and view video footage of the altercation below.

After publishing the initial report documenting the altercation on August 15, 2024 Abortion Free New Mexico was contacted by other local pro-life sidewalk counselors. Derek Moore was able to be identified, because he apparently has a history of harassing  peaceful pro-lifer’s and has allegedly attempted to steal their signs in the past.

(Evidence provided to Albuquerque Police Department by Abortion Free New Mexico)

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement:

“Abortion Free New Mexico would like to thank the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) for responding so quickly to this incident and following through with the charges. Hopefully, the unhinged Derek Moore will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. A strong message needs to be sent to the pro-abortion community that they can’t attack peaceful pro-life Christians for simply living out their Christian faith in the public square. Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers go the the sidewalks outside of local abortion centers with love and compassion. Clearly our peaceful, prayerful presence is having an impact. Our team will not be deterred, we will purchase some more signs and materials and return to Whole Woman’s Health abortion facility more resolute than ever to help pregnant women in need and save precious babies lives.”

Life Fund Update: Supporting a Mom and Her Children

This mother (pictured above) chose life for her baby girl, she was born on January 14, 2024. Your prayers and support have kept her in a safe home,  provided food and encouragement to this single mother.

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Since late last year, Abortion Free New Mexico has been financially supporting a woman from Cuba that chose life for her baby girl, Mia, that is now almost 4 months old. This woman also has a 2 year old daughter and her husband, unfortunately, has stepped out of her life and has not been supporting her in any way.Your prayers and financial support have allowed us to make sure that she has a safe place to live, food and encouragement as a single mother.
Supporting pregnant women during and after their babies birth is love in action. Abortion Free New Mexico has encouraged this mother to seek refuge at a church near her in Odessa, Texas and has shared the love of Christ with her in so many different ways. She has just about everything she needs for her girls and she works daily cooking Cuban food to cover her portion of the rent. Abortion Free New Mexico has paid half of her rent for the past 4 months.

We just wanted to give you an update and ask that you support the Life Fund so that we may continue to serve this mother as she pursues citizenship and eagerly strives for a better life for herself and her girls. We can’t continue to support her without your generosity.

Please give your best gift below and/or consider hosting a baby bottle drive at your church to help us raise funds for The Life Fund.

A gift of $450 covers half of her rent.

A gift of $200 provides groceries that she can use to cook meals to sell.

A monthly gift of $50 helps us provide other mothers with gas cards, bus passes and other necessities.

    A
gift of ANY amount enables us to continue to provide emergent financial support to pregnant mothers in need.

Thank you for praying for this mother, that she comes to know Christ and calls on him for salvation. Our support demonstrates to her that He cares for her. God bless you!

    Sanctity of Life Events 2024

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On January 22, 1984, President Ronald Reagan issued a presidential proclamation designating the third Sunday of January (or close to that) as National Sanctity of Human Life Day. This day is a great opportunity for Pastors, Churches and Pro-life organizations across the United States to bring awareness to the daily attacks against human life through the abortion industry.

Abortion Free New Mexico will be at local churches hosting educational tables on Sanctity of Life weekend and we encourage you to use this time to inform your own Pastor and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Here are some tips:

Important Local Pro-Life Events this month:

    Dear Pro-Life Advocate,

We are very excited to have a team from Living Waters join us to show the “What is it?” Movie at Calvary Rio Rancho on Sanctity of Life Sunday, January 21, 2024. If you are not familiar with the organization called Living Waters, you probably are familiar with Ray Comfort and his street preaching ministry proclaiming the gospel, fulfilling the great commission.

The movie, “What is it?” takes the same approach of delivering the gospel and logically and biblically describes human life in the womb. It is a powerful example of apologetics being applied to describing a pre-born baby and how God looks at His creation. The movie itself is about an hour long then we will follow with a Q&A session with Emeal Zwayne and Mark Spence of Living Waters to discuss the Pro-Life movement in our nation and in New Mexico.

This will be an opportunity for those who love God and love life to come together in prayer and fellowship. We hope that you, your ministry and anyone else you would like to invite can join other Pro-Life advocates to stand strong for life on January 21, 2024 from 5-7:30pm.

Job 10:11-12 “You clothed me with skin and flesh and knit me together with bones and sinews. You have granted me life and steadfast love.”

It is on Friday, January 26th from 12:00-2:00pm in the Rotunda at the capitol.  While this prayer rally will not only focus on the life issues, we will be praying over life and recognizing the pro-life organizations who are present.

Connecting the Dots Concerning Satanism, Child Exploitation and Abortion

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On Tuesday, December 12, 2023 Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico joined Owen Shroyer and Natly Denise on the Infowars War Room to connect the dots concerning Satanism, child exploitation and abortion.

In addition to public mainstream revelations of recent child exploitation that is no longer a conspiracy theory, they discussed Cosmopolitan magazine’s recent satanic report highlighting satanic abortion rituals and The Satanic Temple’s expansion into New Mexico! • The Devil’s in the Abortion Clinic

The Devil’s in the Abortion Clinic

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- This month, Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico was the sole pro-life voice featured in an article highlighted on the front page of the November/December edition of Cosmopolitan magazine. The detailed report captioned, “The Devil’s in the… Health Clinic?” highlights The Satanic Temple, their abortion expansion into New Mexico and their legal fight (which a judge has since struck down) claiming that abortions are a necessary component of their religious ritual.

The Satanic Temple is actively capitalizing on New Mexico’s lack of abortion restrictions by promoting and providing the abortion pill by mail. However, the article sheds light on their real agenda which is to use their stated, “religious ritual” of abortion as a desperately insane attempt to overturn abortion restrictions in states where abortion has been banned.

Tara got right to the heart of the issue in her statement below!

“For Tara Shaver, a Christian anti-choice organizer and spokesperson for a group called Abortion Free New Mexico, TST’s [The Satanic Temple] clinic underscored her conviction that abortion is demonic child sacrifice. ‘Do our leaders realize that they have this unholy alliance with Satanists?’ she says. ‘I think it just serves to show the origins of abortion and the type of people that champion it.’”

As Christian missionaries on the frontlines of the battle against the evil of abortion, it is no surprise that Satanists are in the public eye embracing abortion as a key tenet of their self-centered cult.

Since the beginning of time, Satan has been the number one enemy of humanity and abortion (modern day child sacrifice) is the preeminent way Satan is attacking the human family today.

Cosmopolitan, in very dark undertones, spotlights The Satanic Temple, their followers, and even the disturbing chants they encourage women to recite (while looking at themselves in the mirror) before and after their abortion.

(“In TST’s [The Satanic Temple] abortion ritual, the focus is on self-reflection in the context of science.” Picture and quote from Cosmopolitan)

What about the scientific fact that human life begins at conception?

The contrast between the two opposing religions couldn’t be more stark as Christianity encourages sacrificial love, considering others as more important than yourself even to the extreme of loving your enemies. While Satanism embraces self-centered worship to the extreme of killing, even, sacrificing your own child upon the altar of convenience.

There is no question about whether the battle we engage in daily to save precious pre-born lives is one of good vs. evil. Abortion is selfish, evil, demonic and now undoubtedly satanic.

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico held our 3rd Annual Year End Finale for Life on Thursday, November 16th. We had an amazing turnout and heard such encouraging stories from our Guest Speaker, Troy Newman of Operation Rescue

    • Did you know that the largest peaceful civil disobedience campaign in American history was the pro-life Operation Rescue movement during the 1980’s & 1990’s, even eclipsing the Civil Rights movement during the 1950’s & 1960’s?

Over a delicious New Mexican dinner (catered by Central Grill), Tara gave a year in review update of our 2023 ministry activities and explained how we hope to increase our current program efforts in 2023. These include:

    • “No Sidewalk Without the Savior” prayer initiative at the UNMCRH and
    • Alamo Women’s Abortion Center prayer and sidewalk outreach
    • “The Life Fund” which provides monetary support to women who choose life.

Abortion Free New Mexico is also committed to carrying on investigative research as well as documenting abortion injuries and collaborators at both aforementioned abortion centers.

We are so grateful for the support and prayers of the Pro-Life Community from those of you who believe in our mission to make New Mexico Abortion Free. • Efforts to Install Safe Haven Baby Boxes Spread Throughout New Mexico

Efforts to Install Safe Haven Baby Boxes Spread Throughout New Mexico

    (Pictures provided by Annette Castillo)

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Two Safe Haven Baby Boxes were installed in New Mexico just days apart. On October 24, 2023, the city of Belen Fire Station held a ribbon cutting ceremony to debut their newly installed Safe Haven baby box.

On October 21 the Carlsbad Fire Station 1 had their Safe Haven Baby Box blessed at a ceremony that was open to the public.

This makes for the 4th Safe Haven Baby Box installed in the state of New Mexico, the others are located in Española and Hobbs.

The city of Farmington approved a resolution on October 11 of this year for a box to be installed at Fire Station 2 and other cities are considering installations.

Safe Haven Baby boxes provide an alternative to abandoning newborns or disposing of them in dumpsters or trash cans which happens far too often here in the Land of Enchantment. Newborns under 90 days old can be placed in these Safe Haven Baby Boxes or taken to a local church, hospital, fire station or police station with staff on site.

On September 23 of this year, a healthy baby boy was safely placed in the Hobbs Safe Haven baby box. This was the first life that has been saved in New Mexico and serves as proof that these boxes are an effective tool to save lives.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

“It’s beautiful to see that New Mexico has life affirming options for women who are simply overwhelmed or unprepared for motherhood. It is truly a sacrificial act of love that leads these moms to deposit their babies into a Safe Haven baby box, thereby giving them a hope and a future. Abortion Free New Mexico is in full support of these baby boxes and it is our hope that every county will install these as quickly as possible and that more awareness about their availability will spread like wildfire across the state. Every life is beautiful and is worth protecting, both inside and outside of the womb.”

Join Abortion Free New Mexico for our 3rd Annual Year End Finale for Life Appreciation Fundraising Dinner on November 16, 2023. This year’s guest speaker is Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, a long time friend and mentor of New Mexico’s Pro-Life Missionaries, Bud and Tara Shaver.

Troy Newman is considered to be “Abortionists #1 Foe” by CNN and is the Founder of the Center for Medical Progress which exposed Planned Parenthood’s aborted baby body parts selling scheme.

In fact, he’s just been unjustly ordered to pay Planned Parenthood 18 million dollars!

  • Close UNMCRH Petition, Abortion Is Not Healthcare!

Close UNMCRH Petition, Abortion Is Not Healthcare!

Attention UNM Regents and UNM Leaders,

“I am asking for the immediate closure of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health late-term abortion facility.

Abortion Free New Mexico has already documented EIGHT abortion related injuries at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) abortion facility, since 2022! In fact, on April 10,2024 Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers documented TWO separate women transported to the ER on the same day! As these abortion complications pile up it’s clear that abortion is not healthcare. Women who enter abortion facilities are healthy and whole, carrying another human life in their womb. Far too often they leave broken physically, emotionally and spiritually because abortion kills their child, violently robbing them of the beautiful gift of life.

As a publicly funded institution, the University of New Mexico has tarnished its reputation and is losing the public trust by performing late-term abortions at the UNM Center of Reproductive Health (UNMCRH). Not only are viable babies being violently dismembered, but unsuspecting women are being injured during these abortion procedures at a staggering rate.”

    Take Action: Sign The Petition!

    [emailpetition id=”1″]

    WHY?

Abortion Free New Mexico’s No Sidewalk Without the Savior volunteers documented the 8th abortion injury at the University of New Mexico Center for Reproductive Health abortion center on April 10, 2024. In fact, on April 10th, TWO women were injured on the same day!

  • Mom Chooses Life After 600 Mile Journey

Mom Chooses Life After 600 Mile Journey

    By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico– The day before Albuquerque’s annual Balloon Fiesta began, Abortion Free New Mexico was blessed with the opportunity to help a pregnant mom choose life for her baby. It all began with an email from the pregnant mom’s mother, living in Texas, who was trying to find out if there would be any sidewalk counselors at the UNM abortion center to intercept her daughter.

She searched online for, “sidewalk counselors in Albuquerque” and our contact information came up. Her daughter had made the decision to travel over 600 miles from Texas to New Mexico to have an abortion procedure that could put her physical life at risk as well as her future fertility, emotional wellbeing and a potential lifetime of other consequences.

Over the course of that day Tara corresponded with her mom to try and assess the situation. The prospect of one family member planning to get an abortion was enough to disrupt the whole family unit. There was so much concern for the pregnant mom from within the family which ended up being a blessing due to the fact that it ultimately allowed us a chance to speak with her before she arrived at the abortion center.

On the night before her scheduled appointment, Tara was able to go and meet with the pregnant mom and her father who had driven her here. It was evident by body language and her lack of emotion that she was not feeling like an empowered woman. She looked sad and she said that she was sad multiple times. What she needed was someone to listen to her and to really hear how she was feeling about the situation and for someone to help her work through her fears.

During the conversation Tara was able to share with her what the abortion industry never wants a pregnant mom to hear, the truth that when you are pregnant you are a mother. Also, that having an abortion comes with a wide range of consequences. Some women who abort their first child are never able to get pregnant again, some women suffer guilt, shame and regret that leads to unhealthy and dangerous behaviors like drug addiction and suicide.

Tara shared with her that she is worth more than an abortion that can’t solve any of the problems or concerns she is facing, but that we are here to support her and to let her know all of the other options available to her. Tara also explained and showed her the actual abortion procedure, let her hold a fetal model the approximate size of her own baby and assured her that she has time to figure out what is best for her and the baby.

Pregnant moms in a panic rarely stop to consider that their pregnancy is temporary, it will end naturally in nine months and until that time they can plan and consider what they really want to do whether it be to parent or place the child in an open or closed adoption situation. Oftentimes there are even family members willing to care for and adopt the baby. Every life affirming option was given as well as assurances that what the future holds is unknown but that this baby could help her find purpose in her life.

After parting ways Tara reached out to her to schedule an ultrasound for the next day, at that point the pregnant mom told Tara that she wanted to cancel her abortion appointment and pursue placing the baby for adoption.

Instead of having an abortion she and her father spent the day together taking in the culture and sights of New Mexico. One night before they returned to Texas, one of our volunteers offered to take us all out to dinner. If was a great opportunity connect on a more personal level and her transformation from the previous night was amazing to see. She was smiling and it was as if the weight of the world was lifted off of her. She had been carrying such a heavy burden so determined to have the abortion, but her decision to choose life had set her and her unborn child free!

Her father texted Tara shortly after arriving back in Texas stating how thankful he was that we met with them and shared so much information with his daughter in crisis.

Tara asked him an important question as we seek to understand how to help women in urgent crisis situations surrounding their decision to have an abortion or not,

What was it that had helped her change her mind and choose life?”

He responded that it was a combination of everyones support, seeing the abortion procedure, holding the fetal model and simply being listened to.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement:

“We are completely humbled by the opportunity to help a mom choose life for her unborn child.

Sometimes life throws curveballs and sometimes women just don’t feel ready to be a mother but that never means that the child in the womb should be eliminated. The pro-life community is armed with resources, tangible help as well as overwhelming love and support. The abortion industry lacks all of these things because what they are offering is a bandaid for real life situations that deserve our time and attention. We are grateful that this new mom has such a supportive family that will be there for her throughout this whole process.

Women are truly empowered by choosing life even in difficult circumstances and we witnessed this firsthand.

We greatly appreciate the prayers of our volunteers which we know played a vital part in softening this this mom’s heart.

Every life is a beautiful gift.”

  • The Use of Graphic Images, In Light of the Cross

The Use of Graphic Images, In Light of the Cross

By Bud Shaver (This post originally appeared at Stand For Life)

Within the Pro-Life community…“To use or not to use graphic images, that is the question.” My desire in contributing to this dialogue is not to cause division; while I personally use graphic images everyday as I sidewalk counsel and stand for life out at late-term abortion clinic Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque, New Mexico I would never tell someone that disagreed with me that they had to use graphic images. I believe we should extend grace to those who choose not to. However, my experience is that those who do not use graphic images, they are not as gracious, in fact…they can be some of my harshest critics! The main reason that I use graphic images is because they restore meaning to the word abortion, they change minds, and they save lives.

My wife, Tara Shaver, and I work with Project Defending Life (PDL) a Pro-Life ministry center in Albuquerque, NM that has a vast amount of resources for abortion minded women. I have a rare opportunity to be both out on the street referring women at the abortion clinic to PDL and inside PDL as my wife Tara counsels the women that we reach. My wife makes the point to ask the women what was it that changed their mind, time and time again the graphic images are what penetrated their heart and most contributed in saving their babies from abortion.

This question is usually raised when large numbers of Pro-Lifers plan a major event. Most recently there was an article that surfaced around the March for Life, 2013 in D.C. titled: “Eight Reasons Not to Use Graphic Abortion Images at the March for Life,” by SimchaFisher.

Our convictions must not be shaped by the world, our own emotions, or by our own understanding. They must be shaped by the Word of God. The most brutal and graphic sign the world has ever beheld, is Jesus’ marred and bloody body hanging on a cross at Calvary. So, I am going to examine each of these eight reasons levied against the use of graphic images and examine them as if they were levied against God Himself and His choice to hold the most graphic sign of all…

    1. There will be children at the march. I am sure there were children that witnessed Jesus being led through the streets of Jerusalem and at the foot of Calvary. Whether or not children would be present at the crucifixion did not deter God from choosing this graphic display to convict the world of sin, judgment and righteousness!

    2. There will be post-abortive women at the march. There were murders, thieves and sinners at the foot of Calvary. In fact these are the very ones that need this sign (Christ being lifted up…to be drawn to Jesus John 12:32.) We are all sinners and need to be continually reminded of what of our sin produced…the death of Jesus!

    3. Mothers will be there. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was at Calvary…enough said!

    4. Those are real babies. Calvary was real too! In fact we need the truth about what Jesus experienced on the cross to become more real to us each and every day as we are tempted to sin!

    5. Public image matters. Did public image matter to God? Jesus Christ was brutally murdered at the hands of sinful men and displayed for all to see. In fact Jesus was ridiculed and mocked on the cross. His own disciples and the apostles scattered and were in confusion after the crucifixion. However, Jesus personally rebuked Peter when Peter told Him not to use Himself as a graphic image! (Matthew 16:21-23)

    6. They sometimes push women into abortion. (Personally, this is the most ridiculous! Women who go to abortion clinics are abortion bound, the only question is…”Is it possible for their minds to be changed or their hearts to be penetrated by someone who reaches out to them with compassion and the truth?”) Does Calvary push people to sin more…? I don’t think so! Calvary and its brutality is what penetrates the most hardened hearts! God knows best what convicts of sin, judgment, and righteousness…the brutality of the cross is it!

[I sidewalk counsel and display graphic images out at local abortion clinics in Albuquerque, NM 4-5 days a week “year-round” and I also toured the country with the Survivors Campus Life Tour and visited over 180 colleges and high schools; we used graphic images and educational displays to engage our peers in dialogue about the injustice of abortion…needless to say I have had hundreds of conversations with people and I have never had a woman come up to me at an abortion clinic and say “I was driving down the road happily pregnant until I saw the graphic images you have displayed and I busted a u-turn and decided to have an abortion,” nor have I ever had someone walk up to me and say, “I was pro-life until I saw your graphic images displayed at my college…now I am pro-abortion.” But I have had numerous students come up to me while I was at colleges and high schools and state, “I was  pro-choice until I saw these images, now I totally get it…I am now 100% pro-life!” I have also had numerous women run over to me in tears and say, “Thank you so much for being here! After seeing these images, there is no way that I can go through with my abortion!” In fact, just last week a 16 year old girl came over to us as we were sidewalk counseling out at late-term abortion clinic SWO and say, “I almost did something bad, but I didn’t.”]

    7. Desensitization is a real danger — even among pro-lifers. No matter how many times we see a cross and realize the implications of what Jesus endured we will never become desensitized to Calvary! In fact, God chose to leave us His Word to read daily and meditate upon moment by moment the implications of the cross! We should come to the foot of Calvary more often! Let it ever be before us!

    8. People see what they want to see. When it comes to Jesus, people see what they want to see, however, may we never shirk back and fail to lead people to the foot of Calvary!

The greatest accusation (not mentioned above) that can be levied against those of us who choose to use graphic images is that we are insensitive or unloving. People do not usually come out and make that accusation it mostly comes out in statements like, “We are not going to use graphic images; we are going to use more loving signs.”

The most loving sign the world has ever seen, was held by God Himself, that sign was His Son, Jesus the Christ, bloody and marred beyond recognition. This sign forever declared to the world our sin and draws those who are convicted out of darkness and into the light. (John 12:32) May our concept of love never be fashioned by the world or our own understanding. Our concept of love must be fashioned in light of the cross.

[UPDATED] There are some great resources that defend in depth, the use of graphic images, I personally recommend these:

Stephanie Gray, Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Bioethical Reform, spoke at the Students for Life of America national conference in January 2014. In this excerpt, she argues for the use of victims photography in efforts to end abortion.

  • The Butterfly Effect of Abortion

    The Butterfly Effect of Abortion

By Bud Shaver (This post originally appeared at standforlife.net)

As women leave the late-term abortion clinic, Southwestern Women’s Options, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I ask them to tell the driver of a van that transports the women back and forth from their hotel to stop so they can receive a gift bag (or “Grace in a Bag”). The bag contains information for the women to consider both before and after their abortion and it also contains a gift for them (manicure kit, tissues, and cozy socks for her). This particular day, the driver did stop, but not to take information per the woman’s request, but to curse me out and yell at me. It struck me that abortion has a butterfly effect which impacts far more people than simply the child and the mother.

“In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions, where a small change at one place in a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences to a later state. The name of the effect, coined by Edward Lorenz, is derived from the theoretical example of a hurricane’s formation being contingent on whether or not a distant butterfly had flapped its wings several weeks before.”

The chaos that is created when a woman makes the choice to have an abortion leaves many destroyed lives in the wake. If you consider that since the “Roe vs. Wade” ruling in 1973 there have been an estimated 55,000,000 children’s lives forever destroyed. Let’s add 55,000,000 mothers, 55,000,000 fathers, 55,000,000 grandmothers, 55,000,000 grandfathers, 55,000,000 siblings, aunts, uncles, and as it struck me today drivers and friends…these individuals alone total 550,000,000! Abortion is the hurricane that is ravaging not just children and women, but our entire nation!

The butterfly effect of abortion may be impossible to quantify. However, if you step out in faith and compassionately strive to end even just one abortion, there is hope for the alternative best articulated by the following Jewish saying, “When you save one life it is as if you saved the entire world.” We all have the ability and the responsibility to put a stop to all this chaos! That is why it is so vitally important to take a stand for life today.

We often simply think about the woman and her choice to have an abortion. However, we all have a choice to make as we are confronted with and impacted by abortion. That driver of the van made a choice and contributed to the chaos.  My prayer is that more people will choose to allow God to use them to calm this raging storm and end abortion one child, one woman, one day at a time!

This article was written by a UNM student for one of her classes where her assignment was to highlight an individual. A faithful volunteer and good friend of ours recommended that she focus on Bud Shaver. Even though she encountered criticism and animosity at times from her teacher and from abortion clinic workers, she persevered. We commend her for sticking it out. It is not easy to stand for Christian values in the UNM environment.

The following is first her assessment of the difficulties she encountered and then her paper about Bud. Thank you Tanya for your perseverance and doing a great job highlighting the work we do.

“I had my article returned to me about four times to revise and got a lot of criticism for writing it. At first it was hard to make my teacher believe the facts so I had to do a lot of research to prove to him what I had was fact. Honestly, the doctor’s assistant had treated me so bad at first that I almost completely lost confidence and didn’t feel so good about it anymore. I wasn’t used to it. This is the very first article I have attempted to write since high school in 2004, and this article and issue is very real. I began to wonder if it belonged in my hands. I had absolutely no knowledge of anything having to do with abortion before this. It was A LOT to take in, and I got a lot of criticism and dealt with some mean people.”

Faithful in Defending Life: Rain or Snow Bud will Show
by Tanya Prather- Student, The University of New Mexico

Bud Shaver, 34, is not your average American who clocks in everyday at nine a.m. and fights traffic on the way home at five o’clock every night. Instead, he and his wife, Tara, get up every morning to fight for what they view as a violation of human rights and end the battle over abortion.

Shaver, who is now a father of two, is adamant about being at target clinics during abortion periods in an attempt to reach out to as many women as possible. With him he carries pamphlets of information regarding pre- or post-abortion situations; he is only there to help, not judge, he says. If he is able to catch the women’s attention before they enter the clinic, he will direct them to Project Defending Life (PDL), a pro-life organization that sponsors ministries with the focus of ending abortions. PDL is where his wife is stationed and helps to get the women pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and any other assistance that women may need, such as medical or financial help, Shaver said. Neither Bud nor Tara receives a paycheck, but they get by on charitable donations made through PDL, which is how they are able to continue their outreach, Shaver says. As a pro-life activist, Shaver spends long hours almost every day of the week outside two of three abortion clinics in Albuquerque that he feels are in most need of bringing attention to. He and anyone willing to join him, will stand outside of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health, which is a 22-week gestation abortion clinic and Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO), Albuquerque’s late-term clinic that lists on their website they do, “Elective Abortion through 28 weeks, Later Abortions for Maternal Indications and Later Abortion for Fetal Indications.” Once Shaver finds the hours during which abortions are being done at these clinics, he makes it a point to be there even if he’s alone. He is not one to let a little bad weather stand in his way.

“He’ll go out there alone in the full sun. I’ve even seen pictures of him in the snow. He doesn’t get a paycheck, doesn’t clock out, just does that and what he does is so inspiring,” said Christina Carter, a pro-life volunteer and mother of three.

Tara Shaver has also stood out at the clinics and has testimonies of stopping and changing women’s minds on the spot. However, since the birth of their newborn son, who she has been tending to, she is now helping more within the PDL offices doing tasks mentioned above while her husband stands outside the abortion clinics with other volunteers to educate the public, he says.

A little over five years ago, Shaver says he didn’t know much about abortion and never saw signs with the graphics he sees today. He was raised in a Christian home, but his mother never mentioned or thought about abortion, he said. He grew up to be a minister.  Bud met his wife at Bible College in Texas. Shaver’s wife, Tara, picked up a pamphlet on a trip to California for an event called, “Spirit West Coast, Christian Music Festival.” It’s the first time that both of them fully understood the realities of abortion.

“The pamphlet I picked up in California was based on former abortion clinic owner Carol Everett’s testimony about what she saw in the abortion industry. This brochure opened my eyes and helped me to see that abortion exists, how they are done, the goal of the abortion industry, money, etc.,” Tara said.

Everett had been a director of four different abortion clinics, an owner of two and  she has had an abortion. One of the routine procedures mentioned in the pamphlet is that the babies are dismembered inside the uterus and then removed in pieces and placed back together outside the uterus to make sure all parts have been cleared out.

Other things Everett testifies from her days as an abortionist are how woman are deceived through counseling techniques, common abortion procedures, how fetuses are disposed of and also an investigation by Life Dynamics Inc. (LDI), of Denton, TX, revealing the selling of high-quality fetal organs for research.

In turn, the number one thing Everett confesses is, “The governing force behind the abortion industry” is, “money,” she says.

Aside from this pamphlet, Tara mentioned that not many years prior to this, her mother had tried to convince her pregnant 14-year-old sister to get an abortion. She says she knew nothing about abortion but something inside of her told her it was wrong.

Bud and Tara then offered to take the baby and help in any way they could. Their nephew is now six years old (He has lived 2 of those years with Bud and Tara. He is currently living with his mom in Texas.) “I really think that was the first small seed God planted in my heart that later blossomed into what is now a passion for life,” Tara said.

Though Tara previously did not know much about abortion, she now finds herself running a pro-life office in an attempt to end abortion. She looks for volunteers and updates pro-life newsletters and websites with new information. She files medical board complaints when something goes wrong during an abortion procedure at clinics. Tara obtains the 911 calls made by abortion clinics through freedom of information laws. For example, a recent 911 call made by Southwestern Women’s Options abortion clinic was released revealing how dangerous late-term abortions can be. There were complications in an abortion procedure at 35-weeks gestation on May 12, 2011. The audio recording of the call has been released and can be found at prolifewitness.org/?page_id=94.

Dr. Susan Robinson, a Board-Certified Ob/Gyn who specializes in third trimester abortion care at SWO, explains that abortions at nine months are on a case-by-case basis. They are typically  performed in cases with fetal indications, she claims.

“Fetal Indications means any ailments, such as chromosomal disorder or anything physically wrong that may not be seen until later in the pregnancy. In that case, we need to hand the case over and talk to a doctor, with permission of the doctor (who provides the proof of indications), we would euthanize the baby and there would be an induced labor,” Robinson said.

Another reason, according to  SWO, that a late-term abortion would be performed is a maternal indication. A maternal indication is any proof that the fetus is in some way harming the mother. An example of this would be the recent death of 31-year-old Savita Halappanavar, who died of blood poisoning from miscarriage after an Irish hospital denied her an abortion.

[Editor’s Note: It appears to me, a statistician by education and experience, that there is no apparent causal connection between the fact that the woman did not have an abortion and the death after miscarriage. If her miscarriage had been properly handled (e.g., with a D&C procedure to assure that the remains did not stay in the uterus), she likely would not have contracted blood poisoning. In other words, the causality of her death had to do with negligence post-miscarriage, rather than the failure to have an abortion. -Leslie  Cumiford Editor, The New Mexico Breeze]

Eve L Espey, MD, who has 21 years of experience and practices in Obstetrics & Gynecology and is currently employed at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health explains complications as excess bleeding and infection which are most common, but very rare. She admits that “minor and very few” complications have occurred at their clinic as well. She assures women that these cases are rare, and claims that abortion is safer than pregnancy.

“Abortion is an extremely safe procedure, far safer than continuing a pregnancy. Abortion is most dangerous when it is illegal; it leads to 13% of maternal deaths in the world,” she says.

[Note: Clinic paperwork recently obtained from SWO states, “The risk of terminating a pregnancy gradually increases throughout the course of pregnancy. These comparative risks become approximately equal at 16-18 weeks of pregnancy and increase so that pregnancy termination at 18 weeks and above involves greater risk than carrying the pregnancy to term. UNMCRH does abortions up to 22 weeks gestation! -Tara Shaver]

Doctors employed at abortion clinics sign a “Hippocratic oath,” says Dr. Espey, where they put the patients interest above their own. There are 50% unplanned pregnancies in the U.S., half keep their baby and the other half don’t, she said. Before abortion was legal, there were wards set up throughout the country just to care for women who were trying illegal abortion via coat hanger causing bleeding and infection themselves, Dr. Espey said.

“When you make abortion illegal, it doesn’t go away, you just make it unsafe, and I believe every child should be a wanted child,” Espey said.

Regardless of the views and beliefs inside the abortion clinics, Shaver and volunteers continue to bring awareness to what they refer to as “the atrocities” by holding up graphic signs which show show actual images of aborted fetuses having been pieced back together. They hand out pamphlets with information, stationing a group of mother’s with their babies in strollers along the sidewalk during scheduled hours at both clinics.

Shaver believes that New Mexico is “The Wild, Wild West” when it comes to abortion. It is the late-term abortion capitol of the world, he claims.  New Mexico has no age restrictions, limited regulations, and women are coming to Albuquerque from all over the world for late-term abortions.

When an abortion becomes late-term, it is often related to the “viability” of the fetus, or in other words, the ability of the fetus to survive outside the uterus. Though “partial-birth,” abortion bans have been put in place in the U.S., including New Mexico, there are still many different definitions as to what gestation a baby is able to survive outside the womb and what is not. The most well-known definition renders it easy to take advantage of loopholes to get around the ban.

The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act bans of the procedure in which someone intentionally conducts an abortion after having already vaginally delivered a living fetus. A doctor pulls the fetus out past the navel and “disarticulates” him or her at the neck.

Shaver has seen license plates at the clinics from many other states, even those that have late-term abortions as well. New Mexico also funds 100 percent of the cost of abortion through Medicaid. It is paid for by our Bernalillo County tax dollars, Shaver explained.

“There is a national fund that helps poor women afford abortion. We’re fortunate in NM that Medicaid covers medically necessary abortion,” Espey confirms.

“That’s what really brought us here to Albuquerque. A focus on late-term abortion and focus on making a difference where we can make a difference. If people just understand that late-term abortion fact about Albuquerque and New Mexico, then that can be enough to where we can maybe we can effect change and start solidifying the process in New Mexico to  tidy up some of our laws,” Shaver said.

Bud and Tara Shaver are full-time pro-life missionaries; Albuquerque, New Mexico is their mission field. They are working to organize a constant peaceful and prayerful presence at local abortion clinics and implementing several other proven strategies, in an effort to end abortion in New Mexico. They are also reaching out to the Christian community to educate, activate, and encourage them to stand for life. Their ministry is Christ-centered and grace-filled. There are many ways to get involved. Join them in their life-saving ministry.

In Light of the Empty Sidewalks, History Will be the Final Arbiter!

By Bud Shaver – Prayer and a Pro-Life Witness
(This post originally appeared on www.standforlife.net)

Injustice taints and forever mars the ability to play the moral card. History records and reveals to the world what was done on behalf of those forever scarred.

When you think of a father convicted of a heinous sexual crime that he did to his child, we don’t really care if he provided food, shelter, a good education, or even brought that child to church. One act of injustice forever mars his ability to claim that he was a good father.

When you think of Christians who lived in the deep South in America during the time of slavery who owned slaves, we don’t really care if they fed the poor, did other acts of service, or attended church regularly and tithed. One act of injustice forever taints their legacy.

When you think of church leaders who lived in Nazi Germany during the Holocaust, we don’t really care how many gospel presentations they proclaimed, how many baptisms they did; we care about what they did or did not do on behalf of the Jews being led to the slaughter. One leader’s heroic actions and words of opposition to the injustice during that generation live on and history remembers Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

In the light of injustice we get clarity. All that matters is our participation with our generation’s injustice and whether we are striving to end that injustice. History is the ultimate arbiter.

The greatest injustice of our generation is abortion! 54 million (+) children have been legally slaughtered in the name of “choice.” 65% of those obtaining abortions claim to be Christian/Catholic[i]! Whatever is being said or done from our churches and church leaders is not producing much of a difference for the children being led to the slaughter!

In light of the empty sidewalks, deafening silence from the pulpits, and pews filled with post-abortive women and men (1/3rd of American women over 45 have had at least one abortion[ii]), history is already documenting the American church of the 21st century! In the light of injustice the legacy we leave behind will be forever tainted and determined by what we do and have done to end this barbaric killing!

Posterity will not ask you about your giving, how many times you read through the Bible in a year, how many missionaries you sent around the globe, or how many soup kitchens you started. You will be asked what you did to end the open genocide being perpetrated across the street from our churches and in the midst of our communities!

How to Start a Pro-Life Ministry at Your Church

Start a prayer group at your church. Seek to build a core group of people who are pro-life to pray about the direction of a ministry to the pre-born and their mothers within your church.

Educate. Host a pro-life presentation/training with local organizations and/or pastors who are already involved in local pro-life ministry to find out what is taking place with regard to abortion in your community.
    a. These presentations could be tailored to a midweek Bible study, men’s or women’s Bible studies, or a Sunday or midweek whole church service.
    b. If there are no local organizations start one! If your pastors are not involved pray for them and meet with them to encourage their involvement and support!

Become Active. Decide how active you want your church to be and what types of events/activities you want to participate in. There are many opportunities to get involved such as:
    a. Praying at an abortion clinic once a week or once a month or more.
    b. Volunteering at or open a local pregnancy resource center.
    c. Hosting a series of pro-life “apologetics/sidewalk ministry” training classes.
    d. Post-abortion healing training.
    e. Donate to local pregnancy centers. Host a clothing/diaper/formula drive.
    f. Outreach at local universities or other outside venues.
    g. Come up with your own ideas to reach out, educate, and serve the pregnant women in your community.

Find out about other local/national Pro-life organizations.

    a. Sign up for e-mails and newsletters to stay informed about their events.
    b. 40 Days for Life

The main reason to start a pro-life group in your church is to make a difference in your community. There are many ways to get involved. Together we can end abortion one woman, one child, one day at a time! The end to abortion begins with the churches in America!

  • Showing Christ’s Love Saves The Unborn And Comforts Those In Need

    By Monte Harms- standforlife.net

This originally appeared on Stand For Life

I am standing in front of an abortion facility to be a defender of the unborn. A woman goes in to have an abortion and totally ignores those standing on the sidewalk. Sometimes her boyfriend, father, mother, or friend who brought her will be verbally combative with the defenders. It’s spiritual warfare at its core.

Part of my human nature urges me (unsuccessfully, I might add) to say or even yell:

“You do know you’re killing your own baby.”
“Are you out of your mind?”
“Who in the world would kill their own baby?”

… or tell the boyfriend or whoever brought her:

“Do you know you are an accessory to this killing?”
“You are having your own baby (or grandbaby) killed!”
“You call yourself a friend by helping her kill her own baby!”

… or after an abortion my human nature tells me that I shouldn’t have anything nice to say to her or those who brought her. I should ignore them because they just had a fellow human killed.

A few have used the human nature methods, but what has been effective at the late-term abortion facility in Albuquerque and across the country is not using your human nature, but Christ’s nature.

Having Christ’s love flow through those on the sidewalk have saved lives and comforted those after they had their abortions. Bud Shaver shares recent encounters from the sidewalk of Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque, NM:

Everyone has a picture, concept…stereotype of what a public presence at a abortion clinic is. Let me share with you what I witnessed and experienced today out at late-term mill SWO. A woman came out of the abortion clinic after she had her abortion. Also, a college student from UNM was waiting while his girlfriend was inside having an abortion (his child). Jennifer and others were able to wave them over to talk with them…they didn’t just talk to these people, they were able to hug, weep, minister to, pray and love them! This is more than a snap-shot of pro-life ministry…This is what grace, mercy, love…Christ looks like. We have an opportunity to live out Christ’s love and share Him with those who desperately need to find Him! We love because He first loved us…We have been lost and broken until we found the healer! I witnessed what Christianity is…I witnessed Christ being lifted up and drawing the lost to Him! I was also able to talk to the abortion clinic manager. Orae gave her our latest handout (from HLA) so she would know what help and information the women received from us. (A UPS driver told us that they have a sign posted inside the clinic stating “Pray to end sidewalk harassment!”) I was able to tell her we cared and were praying for her too. She told us they were “Having a hard time keeping up with us!” We have had several turnarounds and saves this month…that we know about! We have the opportunity to be His hands, feet, body…and heart to these men and women!

    Bud shares other interactions:

Pretty intense spiritual battle today out at Late-Term mill SWO (learn more at www.lateterm.com)! A woman got out of a taxi with all her luggage and as she headed into SWO. I told her that we cared about her and were willing to help her with whatever she needed. She stopped and asked if I had $3,000…I told her Yes, if that’s what it would take to save her baby, I would come up with the 3 grand! Bobby Coffman Jr and Collette Pacheco-Coffman spoke with her for 5 minutes as she had the door to SWO open. She eventually went inside. After 10-15 minutes she came back out to talk with us and see if we really were willing to help her. She told us that she was from Washington, and her husband left her and she was all alone…We told her that she was not alone…We were here for her! She did not believe us, so I told her to put us to the test! After a lot of tears, talking with the executive director of Project Defending Life (PDL) who arranged a couple of days in a hotel so she could just think more about everything, trying to get her husband on the phone…she went back inside SWO. A half hour later she came back out with all her luggage and left SWO with Jennifer Jacobson Bresett and headed up to PDL…the battle still rages! She would not give us her name, but please keep her and this situation in your prayers!

Another young girl pulled up in her car and had her young son with her. She was headed into SWO but came over to talk to us as we offered her help. She too left following another sidewalk counselor (today was her first time praying and offering help out at an abortion mill) heading up to PDL for an ultrasound and resources! The battle is raging, but in the midst of the storm, there is hope for the hopeless. We are lighting up the darkness…We are ending abortion one woman, one child, one day at a time…and to God be the Glory!

Many who go in to have an abortion know what they are destroying, but they often feel that abortion is the only alternative for them. Unfortunately, the outside pressure from others to abort is tremendous. But when an alternative is displayed that shows Christ’s love for them and help for their situation, their eyes are sometimes opened. Project Defending Life in Albuquerque and other organizations throughout the country give sidewalk counselors the necessary tools to assist the needy. PDL offers all types of assistance to those that feel backed into a corner with no way out. Often when the woman and man involved sees an ultrasound of their baby at PDL or another pregnancy center, they feel there isn’t any reason for them to destroy that life. Also, if they know there is someone there to assist them financially and with moral or spiritual support, they can see the light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Thousands of sidewalk counselors and pregnancy centers across America are that beacon of light for the unborn and those who want to abort.

Christ’s love wins out while human nature often destroys the chance to save or comfort the most vulnerable unborn and born humans.

  • MAKING FRIENDS WITH OUR ENEMIES!

In the widely-viewed film 180, there is a young man named Steve with a Mohawk, tattoos, and piercings. He is also very fouled-mouth, anti-God and anti-Jewish. The first reaction to him might be is that he is a kook or “those atheists are so weird and rude.” By the end of the interaction with 180’s creator Ray Comfort, it is obvious Steve’s heart has been softened and he states that he will think about reading his Bible.

Pro-life activist Bud Shaver demonstrates often how to respond to someone who states they are pro-abortion, anti-God, or just does not want Bud to be in front of the abortion facility. He has made friends with his enemies by not shunning them but engaging in productive positive conversation. Read Monte’s entire article here: The Exception and Worst-Case Scenario Approaches To Issues

As we step out in faith, God can use us to Light Up the Darkness, and deal with people’s brokenness, those who are carrying heavy burdens. We can represent Jesus to them as he says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) As we lead them to Jesus..He will do the rest!

    MAKING FRIENDS WITH OUR ENEMIES!

I was reaching out to abortion-minded women at the late-term abortion mill, Southwestern Women’s Options (www.lateterm.com), I was confronted by a young man who was very angry! I was as close as you get to being violently assaulted. He cursed me and asked me what I had to say about it. I told him God Bless You and if you want to talk rationally about the situation we could. He left just as quickly as he came, cursing and flipping me off as he left!

This does not happen as often as one may think, but it does occasionally happen. The difference today was that this guy returned about an hour later…this time very apologetic! He was genuinely sorry for how he treated me.

When we ended our conversation, he did not fall on his knees and profess Christ as his Lord and he was still “Pro-Choice” when he left but he did shake my hand…What seemed impossible just one hour earlier with him being my enemy, was possible for the God that we serve…We ended our (rational) conversation as friends!

MAKING FRIENDS WITH OUR HARSHEST CRITICS…FELLOW CHRISTIANS!

Sometimes our harshest critics are fellow Christians! We are not here to make friends (even though we sometimes do!), but to save lives! Our ministry is Christ centered and Grace Filled! MAKING FRIENDS WITH GOD-HATERS!

This video footage was taken on August 8, 2012 out at Late-Term abortion clinic Southwestern Women’s Options www.lateterm.com This was this woman’s (and children’s) first time peacefully witnessing and offering help out at SWO! What an introduction to the hostility intolerance, and hatred from the “Pro-Choice” community! This guy admitted to being post-abortive. He was carrying around all this baggage, abortion does not just effect women and children…it also effects men! We eventually found common ground and we actually became…friends! (This is just some excerpts the actual conversation was over an hour long!) Also, there were two babies and two women saved from the horror called abortion this day! One of the women was able to receive help from Project Defending Life! www.defendinglife.org We are making friend’s with God-Haters, and ending abortion one woman, one child, one day at a time!

  • The Mainstream Media Publicizes The Truth About Abortion

By, Monte Harms- Stand For Life
    (This originally appeared on www.standforlife.net)

In the last week a truck with photos of the truth has been getting a fair amount of publicity in Albuquerque. Local ABC affiliate KOAT-TV aired a story about the “truth truck” that has abortion photos on its side. Pro-life activist Bud Shaver drives the truck around town and parks it across the street from the late-term abortion facility, Southwestern Women’s Options, while he is peacefully counseling women and men at SWO.

The story prompted radio talk show host Scott Stiegler to devote two hours of his show the following day to listener’s reactions to the truck and the use of graphic photos. KKOB with its 50,000 watts is the most listened to station in New Mexico, so there was a huge audience and plenty of comments from the public. Scott Stiegler moderated the two hours by stating it was not going to be about the abortion debate, but he wanted the audience’s opinions about the appropriateness of having abortion images on the side of the truck. Stiegler’s approach was one of the fairest I have seen by the mainstream news media on an abortion-related subject. He started off by saying how we use graphic images for stop-smoking campaigns, driver training videos, and other examples, so why is this any different? Bud Shaver spoke for the first 10-15 minutes about why he uses the truck and the reactions he has received.

Although KKOB’s audience leans conservative or libertarian, it was still surprising how few people disagreed with this method of showing graphic images. Approximately 75% agreed with what he was doing and stated how the world needs to see what abortion is. The other 25% believed it was too “in your face” and not a good way to communicate the pro-life issue.

Hopefully, these reports and the use of the truth truck will wake up the public to the horror of abortion and the issue will be in the news more often. If nothing else, the public that was exposed to these reports now realize that late-term babies are being aborted in their hometown. It’s been obvious that the pro-life view of abortion has been off limits by the mainstream press, but every time a story such as this is aired, the wall comes down a little. In the future the press may be a little more willing to cover the truth about abortion.

Check out Bud and Tara Shaver’s site, Prayer and a Pro-Life Witness, and also go to lateterm.com for more information.

Thanks to KOAT-TV and Scott Stiegler of KKOB radio.

  • Making Friends With Our Enemies!

By Bud Shaver (This article originally appeared on Standforlife.net)

Today (Friday, June 1, 2012) as I was reaching out to abortion-minded women at the late-term abortion mill, Southwestern Women’s Options (www.lateterm.com), I was confronted by a young man who was very angry!

He shared with me his view on abortion. He shared with me that he was upset with my graphic signs and that he thought they did more harm than good. He also stated that he did not like the fact that we “harassed” women by speaking to them. He told me that he calls the cops several times every day and that he was just fed up with my “spectacle”.

I told him that I appreciated the fact that he was sincerely sorry for how he treated me and that he was not the only one who shared similar sentiments…I told him that I receive a lot of opposition and that most of the opposition I receive…ironically…is from the Pro-Life community! Everyone has their own personal opinion about what is effective, but no one ever stops to ask me: “Hey Bud why do you persist on using graphic images and reach out to abortion-minded women at abortion clinics? Is it effective? Why do you risk assault, illegal arrest, and deal with people defaming your reputation?”

This is what I told him…“I am not out here to make friends! I am not out here to get a notch in my Pro-life belt! I am not here to win a popularity contest! I am not out here to check off a box on my Pro-Life check list….I am out here for these women and babies whose lives are in imminent danger TODAY due to the violent act called Abortion! Every aspect of my presence here is proven to be effective in changing minds and saving lives! I am effective in saving lives and educating the community to the brutal violence and danger of abortion! My signs are constitutionally protected under the First Amendment to the Constitution and perfectly legal! I do not harass anyone! You can keep calling the police and as you clearly see by the fact that I am not arrested…I am not doing anything illegal! In fact if the police did arrest me based on your complaints or tried to force me off the sidewalk or try and prevent me from using my graphic signs revealing abortion violence…then they would be the ones breaking the law! There is a very good reason why I create such a “spectacle” each day…The Constitution does not just give me the right to present a message publically, the Constitution primarily guarantees that the public will be able to receive a (controversial) message that they would not be able to receive otherwise! I told him I am not the problem…Abortion is the problem!”

He did not fall on his knees and profess Christ as his Lord and he was still “Pro-Choice” when he left but he did shake my hand…What seemed impossible just one hour earlier with him being my enemy, was possible for the God that we serve…We ended our (rational) conversation as friends!

Today that was the mountain that I witnessed God move…and it all started with me taking a stand against the injustice of abortion in the public square and making myself available to abortion-minded women…and the public at large who support and will defend with force…A woman’s right to kill her own child!

  • Let’s End Abortion As We FulFill The Great Commission!

By Bud Shaver (This article originally appeared on Standforlife.net)

I am coming up on 5 years of full-time Pro-Life ministry, during this time reaching out to Church leaders, Pastors, and the Christian community in general…Christian’s for the most part think that you have to choose between fulfilling the “Great Commission” and doing anything remotely effective in engaging the abortion injustice in America. Resulting in Church budgets and resources maxed out to fulfill the “Great Commission” overseas…while neglecting to deal with the abortion Holocaust in their own communities!

While we can say that we have done a great job fulfilling the “Great Commission” overseas, we have to be honest and realize that we have failed to go into our own communities to reach the lost and dying for Christ…in doing so, are we neglecting to fulfill the “Great Commission” in America? We do not need to think that we have to choose between fulfilling the “Great Commission” and engaging the issue of abortion…We need to think about fulfilling the “Great Commission” in America by going to the “Least of These” scheduled for death in our communities and bring the Gospel of Life to the dying and bring the Gospel of hope to the desperate!

This is a false dichotomy…that needs to be dealt with! “The fallacy of a false dichotomy is committed when the arguer claims that his conclusion is one of only two options, when in fact there are other possibilities.” There is another possibility…and that is…both should be a unified whole! Church, we need to deal with the reality that we have dropped the ball in America…resulting in 54 million dead children and counting…73% of the women who had these abortions in America claim to be Christian/Catholic Christians! We have failed to teach and disciple a complete Christian worldview…which includes obeying all that is commanded of us!

As an activist…and not a Pastor, I have to add… Talking about abortion is only the first step, the fruit of which should produce action! Instead of meeting behind four walls on Sunday morning in a building, If Church leaders and Pastors took the Church to the streets in front of abortion clinics in public opposition to the killing of innocent children, prayed there, reached out with the gospel there…women and couples would repent (change their mind, turn 180 degrees), babies would be saved, the lost…Who need Christ, would find and receive Him, and the Church would be relevant to a lost and dying… America. Multiply this for churches and cities in America… and you can get the picture! We would fulfill the “Great Commission” and end the greatest injustice of our generation…Abortion!

Stand Up and join me in fulfilling the “Great Commission” in our mission field…America!

  • We Need To Live Out God’s Love – It May Save A Life

We Need To Live Out God’s Love – It May Save A Life

    (Bud and Tirzah)

    By Bud Shaver

I received a notice from someone this week requesting me to remove them from my local pro-life contact list. I send out weekly e-mails letting local contacts know about ways to get involved in our community to reach out to abortion minded couples. This person told me that they were praying for the Lord to do something about abortion. I understand that we are all busy, but the Lord desires to use US to do something about abortion. We need to be his hands and feet in our communities and compassionately lead those in need to embrace him in their desperate hour.

Today I was praying and reaching out to abortion minded women in Albuquerque, New Mexico at late-term abortion clinic Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO). There were two cars from New Mexico, two cars from Georgia, a car from Texas and a car from Arizona. This clinic is drawing women from all over the country for late-term abortions. A young guy was sitting in his car smoking a cigarette. He was looking over at me and I could tell that he was listening to what I was saying to women as they would enter SWO. Here is what I say in my short window of opportunity: “God loves you and I care about you and your situation. Please let me help you. There are so many resources available to you. Please come and talk to me. Abortion is something that you can never take back. If you are pregnant you are a mother and your baby loves you. God bless you.”

He got out of his car and went inside the clinic. A few minutes later a girl came out of SWO. She was pacing back and forth while wiping tears from her eyes. I waved to her and signaled her to come and talk to me. She practically ran over. I told her that I cared about her and her situation and asked her if she was there for an abortion. She told me that she was. I told her that this was ultimately her choice and she would be the one most affected by it. I told her all the ways that abortion hurts women and about the breast cancer link after abortion. I told her that she would be emotionally scarred as well. I told her about all the financial resources, housing and other type of assistance available to her but she did not need any. She just needed life affirming encouragement. She told me that she was going to call her sister.

Her boyfriend (the young guy who was sitting in the car) came over and I started talking to him. I told him that abortion was not the answer to their problems. I said our culture promotes abortion as the solution to all their problems, but it doesn’t help. In fact, it causes so many more problems. I said he may feel obligated to seek abortion, but ultimately it doesn’t just affect women; it affects men too. I encouraged him to be supportive and do the right thing. Immediately I could see a transformation in his demeanor. He told me they were from Phoenix, AZ and that he was pushing for the abortion. In fact, he told me that he had already paid for the abortion. As he told me this he started to break down and cry. I could tell that he was ashamed of himself. I hugged him and told him that it was not too late and that being a father was such a blessing. I spoke with him a little more and then he reached over and hugged me and told me that I was a blessing to him.

The girl told me that she had called her sister who lived here in ABQ and that she was pregnant herself and very pro-life. Her sister pulled up and they spoke in their car for several minutes. The sister from ABQ got out of the car and went inside the clinic to get the money back. When she came out, she walked over to me and with tears in her eyes and choking up she said, “God bless you and the work you do. Thank you for being here.” The couple left the abortion clinic with their baby heading back to Arizona. For the first time they were excited to be parents.

Put yourself in the place of the pro-life sister. You may find yourself receiving a phone call from your estranged family member who you thought was in another state and meet them at the abortion clinic in your community. You too would be grateful that someone chose to take a public stand for life and compassionately reached out to your loved one. It is so important to have resources to offer couples in desperate need. The assistance we provide may be the very thing that removes the pressure or presumed need to go through with the abortion. However, all that may be needed is a kind word, a hug, or just someone offering life affirming encouragement. Love lived out and made available may be all that is needed to save a life.

Yesterday the stomach flu that has ravaged my family hit me and I was feeling lousy. I was not sure if I would be out at the clinic today. I prayed last night and entrusted it to God and when I woke up this morning I did not feel sick, so I went out to the clinic. As I was driving back home, I started feeling lousy again. It seems that God had a task assigned for me today and he gave me the strength to accomplish it. How can God use you to do something about abortion? Don’t remove yourself from how God is moving and working. We need to remove the things that consume our lives and distract us from accomplishing God’s purpose for our lives. The Lord wants to see an end to abortion, and he wants to use us to “do something about abortion.” God can use you to bless others as we stand for life.

  • God Has Called Us To Be Faithful

God Has Called Us To Be Faithful

    By Bud Shaver

Tara and I have sidewalk counseled for several years and in several states. We have started abortion clinic outreaches from scratch, where there was no presence out at the local abortion clinic at all. We have felt like we were all alone at times and we have felt like it was impossible to activate Christians to get involved to end the abortion holocaust. During that time we had a few turnarounds but we also found out later that one of the women who turned around later went through with the abortion another day at a different abortion clinic. We know that it is impossible to gauge success in this type of ministry. Echoing the words of Mother Teresa, “God has not called me to be successful. He called me to be faithful.”

However, Tara and I have been amazed by how many positive meetings we have had with church leaders here in Albuquerque, New Mexico and are encouraged by the fact that we have several pro-life educational presentations lined up at several churches. During the past few months, our efforts out at the late-term abortion clinic here in Albuquerque have resulted in several turnarounds and we have confirmation of several babies being saved. While it is so very important to stand for life at the abortion clinic, this is only one aspect of what results in women choosing life and leaving the abortion clinic with her child.

A question I have been asking myself lately is: “What is so different here that has contributed to such a positive difference than in other places that we have engaged in pro-life outreach?” One of the primary things that I have observed over the past few months here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is the commitment to prayer to end abortion by so many people of different Christian denominations. I truly believe that abortion is the result of evil spiritual forces and must be defeated using spiritual means. Prayer is one of the most important ways of engaging in this spiritual battle. Individual prayer and group prayer; prayer at home and prayer out at the abortion clinic, we must stand in the gap for our communities and our nation. This commitment to prayer has made an obvious difference.

Another thing that I have observed that has been different here in Albuquerque, than in other cities, is the commitment to working together with all people of the Christian faith. People of different denominations have committed to reaching out and having a peaceful presence out at the abortion clinic. If they cannot come to the abortion clinic, they find other ways to stand for life and support abortion minded women. I truly believe that God can and has blessed this level of unified outreach to engage the injustice of abortion. One of Jesus’ last requests before he went to the cross was that his followers live in unity and love one another. In fact this is how the world will learn of Gods love. (John 17:20-23)

The final thing that I have observed that has contributed to the confirmed saves of several babies is the resources that have been provided by the generosity of many Christians. Having tangible ways of helping women in crisis can and does save lives. The realization of the urgent nature of helping abortion-minded women by the Christian community is key. While it is vitally important to have a peaceful, prayerful presence out at the abortion clinic to reach out to every abortion minded woman…it is not the only way to stand for life.

I encourage all Christians everywhere to seek out ways to get involved and be used to promote a culture that values human life.
