Washington D.C. – On Thursday, June 26th the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) ruled 6-3 in favor of South Carolina defunding Planned Parenthood, the nation’s most prolific abortion provider.
According to the Guardian,
“The case, Medina v Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, centers around a 2018 executive order from South Carolina’s governor, Henry McMaster, that blocked clinics that provide abortions from receiving Medicaid reimbursements.”
At the time Governor McMaster stated,
“Payment of taxpayer funds to abortion clinics, for any purpose, results in the subsidy of abortion and the denial of the right to life.”
The Guardian continues,
“The case in front of the supreme court did not directly deal with the question of whether South Carolina could legally remove Planned Parenthood from Medicaid. Instead, the justices were asked to weigh in on a highly technical question: do Medicaid beneficiaries have the right to sue if they believe their right to a free choice of provider has been violated? In a 6-3 decision joined by every member of the court’s conservative supermajority, the justices ruled that, essentially, individuals do not possess that ‘enforceable right’.”
Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch who wrote in the majority opinion stated,
“The decision whether to let private plaintiffs enforce a new statutory right poses delicate questions of public policy. New rights for some mean new duties for others. And private enforcement actions, meritorious or not, can force governments to direct money away from public services and spend it instead on litigation.”
He concluded,
“The job of resolving how best to weigh those competing costs and benefits belongs to the people’s elected representatives, not unelected judges charged with applying the law as they find it.”
Steven Ertelt of Life News gives more clarity on the SCOTUS ruling,
“The high court’s ruling means that the state can direct Medicaid funding—funds intended to help low-income individuals obtain necessary medical assistance—to comprehensive health care rather than entities that exist primarily to perform abortions.”
Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,
“Abortion Free New Mexico believes that the US Supreme Court has made the right decision on this ground breaking case. State Medicaid programs should never be forced to fund abortions, especially through Planned Parenthood, which is a nonprofit but always profits billions off the shedding of innocent blood through abortion. We’re prayerful that this sets a precedent for future rulings with regard to defunding other abortion businesses using taxpayer dollars, which is in violation of many taxpaying Americans moral consciences.”
Abortion Free New Mexico is hosting a demonstration Saturday June 28th in conjunction with several other protests all across the country urging the US Senate to pass President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” which has a provision in it to defund Planned Parenthood.
According to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, if this bill passes 200 of their locations face closure.
Albuquerque, New Mexico- Many people probably don’t know that coercing a woman into getting an abortion is illegal in all 50 states. While most abortions are elective and are used as a form of birth control it is not unheard of for our ministry sidewalk teams to encounter women who are feeling the pressure of coercion to have an abortion. Some are young and their parents are forcing them to end the life of their child with the threat of being kicked out of their home. Some parents even threaten their daughters with the withdrawal of financial support or a college education if they don’t submit to an abortion.
Sometimes it’s boyfriends or husbands making the threats. Even though men are meant to lead and protect, far too often they shirk their duty and bring women to abortion centers insisting that their child’s life be ended.
Most people would agree that these forms of coercion are unacceptable and that women should be able to keep their babies if they wish despite their circumstances.
A new trend within the abortion industry, outside of state-funded abortions through Medicaid, is to promote “free” abortions which are offered through abortion fund networks. We have identified over 280 of these funds and their availability has opened up a new form of coercion. Interestingly, many of these funds are for specific people groups, for instance, some funds are only available for black or indigenous women and of course illegal immigrants.
“Ironically, we are seeing mass protests and riots burning cities to the ground over Republican immigration policies, deporting criminal foreign illegal migrants back to their home countries, meanwhile, the Democrat party and these abortion fund network groups openly support abortion policies that literally is a depopulation agenda targeting these same minority groups and funding the extermination of their children in the womb before they can become American citizens with tax dollars and charitable donations! Which one of these policies is more barbaric?” asked Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.
These funds promise a fully paid-for abortion, lodging and travel. Some will pay for round-trip airfare and others pay for gas and lodging if the woman is willing to drive. For many, free things sound very nice, in fact, we’ve had women tell us that because their abortion was fully funded they believed it was God’s will to end their child’s life. What a tragedy.
Shockingly, some abortion funds are provided by fringe “religious” pro-abortion organizations. In addition to violating the basic biblical teaching, “Do not murder” these pro-abortion organizations also help these women break their own state’s pro-life laws that are in place to protect them and their babies. This should be grounds for these organizations to be stripped of their federal 501c3 tax exemptions!
Some women are on the fence about their decision when they arrive at the abortion center. These women change their minds once we sow hope and truth into their hearts. However, the fact that an abortion fund provided her travel and paid for her abortion makes her stricken with fear that she has to follow through. We have met some women who are genuinely experiencing coercion to obtain their abortion because of the funding they have already received. They believe that they will have to pay the money back.
This is a serious problem and we believe that it is a form of coercion. These pro-abortion networks make women feel that they have no other choice, they don’t leave room for changed hearts and minds. Women don’t need abortions, they need real support throughout their pregnancy and beyond. Having an abortion doesn’t change a woman’s situation, it just makes her the mother of a dead child.
There are so many ways that we can empower women to motherhood. As the pro-life community, we can counter abortion funds by serving pregnant women and letting them know that it’s never too late to change their minds about abortion. Surely more can be done collectively to turn these tragic statistics around.
According to Google AI, while the Catholic Church maintains a slight majority of religious adherents in New Mexico, Protestants are catching up.
Overall, 63% of all adults in New Mexico identify as Christians.

How do we reconcile the majority of adults in New Mexico identifying as Christians and the overwhelming religious majority identifying as Catholics, with a Democratic trifecta of total political power in the state by a party that is considered“At Odds With Christianity”!?
In his article titled, “No, Christians Cannot Support The Democrat Party”, Pastor, Seth Brickley emphatically states,
“No political party in American history is more at odds with biblical Christianity than modern-day Democrats. The party has enshrined the ritualistic child sacrifice of abortion in their party platform. Scripture teaches that life begins at conception (Psalm 139:13-16) but the Democrat Party advocates for abortion at every moment of pregnancy, with the vast majority of Democratic leadership also advocating for even killing children post-birth in cases of botched abortions. In January 2023 almost all House Democrats voted for this evil.”
Why do the majority of New Mexicans continue to vote for political leaders who abandon their Christian values while in office and are rarely held accountable by the religious leaders and constituents of the state?

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Under the current administration, led by Democrat Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Abortion Free New Mexico has obtained very limited data about taxpayer funded abortions through New Mexico Medicaid. In an Inspection of Public Records (IPRA) request on February 6, 2025 made to the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA), Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico asked for a plethora of information regarding the numbers of abortions that were funded through New Mexico Medicaid. The response that the Health Care Authority provided was unprofessional, unclear and incomplete but Abortion Free New Mexico is publishing what has been revealed so far in this investigation.
The following information was requested:
How much money was paid for abortion procedures by New Mexico Medicaid in 2022, 2023 and 2024?
How many abortion procedures were paid for by New Mexico Medicaid in 2022, 2023 and 2024? (Please specify whether the procedure is chemical or surgical.)
Which providers in New Mexico were paid by New Mexico Medicaid for abortion procedures in 2022, 2023 and 2024?
What is the gestational ages of the fetus’ for which abortions were paid for by New Mexico Medicaid in 2022, 2023 and 2024?
How many abortion procedures were paid for by New Mexico Medicaid on undocumented immigrants in 2022, 2023 and 2024?
On March 4, 2025 the New Mexico Health Care Authority public records custodian gave a one sentence reply to Shaver’s initial request which was quite concerning. It simply stated,
“The New Mexico Health Care Authority, $2,980,083.31 was paid in PregTerm through 2022- 2024. The New Mexico Health Care Authority does not have documents responsive to the remainder of this request.”
In a back and forth to clarify, two different dollar amounts were ultimately given, with the final amount being over $3.7 million dollars (Total – $3,768,818.32) for 2022, 2023 and 2024. The letter below dated April 16, 2025 also included a breakdown by year, showing that 2024 had the highest amount paid out for abortions. The lack of transparency regarding this request, however, is a breach of the public trust.
In previous years under a different administration, public records requests were fulfilled completely with all requested data included. Not only did the HCA give a limited repsonse, they also stated that they did not have documents responsive to the rest of the request. Upon reading this, Shaver decided to ask where additional data could be obtained in the interest of public accountability.
Shaver then received the following response via email correspondence with the public records custodian,
“Dear Mrs. Shaver, no we do not know of an government agency that would have this because Medicaid, as we have indicated, does not pay for this. You could try private entities like planned parenthood. Thanks, HCA IPRA Team.”
Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,
“It is very frustrating when a state agency, like the New Mexico Health Care Authority, that is entrusted with public information withholds, denies and even changes the information when it is requested by the public. This is unfortunately the norm in Democrat run states like New Mexico. The New Mexico Health Care Authority denied that Medicaid even pays for abortions but gave two contradicting dollar amounts for PregTerm (short for Pregnancy Termination) which is regarded as medical or surgical abortions. For a state that is so proud to champion abortion, why are they so unwilling to release actual abortion numbers that state taxpayers have funded? Is this an indication that they know how evil abortion really is and are attempting to hide this information from the public?”
Abortion Free New Mexico has reached out to an open government organization for assistance and has submitted another IPRA request to the New Mexico HCA to try and gain the original requested information based on the medical codes used for abortions.
New Mexico is 1 of 19 states that uses state tax dollars through Medicaid to fully fund elective abortions. This use of state tax dollars being utilized to fund abortions through New Mexico Medicaid despite the Hyde Amendment, is based on a New Mexico Supreme Court order.
The New Mexico Supreme Court has ruled that the State must cover all medically necessary abortions in its Medicaid program using State-only funds. The Court based its decision to expand coverage of abortion services on the State Constitution’s Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Specifically, the Court found that the Medicaid agency’s rule prohibiting State funding for certain medically necessary abortions denies Medicaid-eligible women equal rights. The agency’s rule results in a program that does not apply the same standard of medical necessity to both men and women, and there is no compelling justification for treating men and women differently with respect to their medical needs.”
The cost of a first trimester abortion is typically around $600, whereas a 32 week abortion costs $17,500.
There is a definite trend in New Mexico to promote abortion but keep citizens in the dark about their shameful deeds. During the most recent 2024 legislative session, radical abortion legislators introduced multiple bills to suppress abortion related data. Unfortunately, one bill did pass, SB57 which prevents the public from knowing the names of abortion providers, employed by a public body. It begs the question, why do you want to hide your identity if you are so proud to take the lives of little babies by performing grisly abortions, some up to 32 weeks of pregnancy? The citizens of New Mexico deserve transparency from their government and every innocent life should be protected under the law, born and preborn,” stated Tara Shaver.
Albuquerque, New Mexico- In April of 2021 I was due to deliver my 5th child in a planned home birth that turned into an emergency c-section. It has taken me four years to be able to share this testimony because it was pretty traumatic on many levels. This pregnancy occurred during COVID and I was denied medical care at Lovelace hospital in Albuquerque because I refused to harm myself and my unbornchild by wearing a mask during routine visits. I believe this was the catalyst for having a c-section because I apparently had an underlying infection that was not diagnosed before delivery.
I have had three previous amazing home births and am a strong advocate for natural home birth without medical intervention unless there is an emergency. Home birthing is empowering to women, allowing them to be in a safe comfortable space, while also avoiding unnecessary medical interventions.
After 24 hours of labor with no progress, my midwife and I decided that we needed to get to the hospital because something wasn’t right. My plan was to go to any hospital other than University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) because they provide abortions, train abortionists and have their own free standing abortion center near the airport in Albuquerque.
However, my midwife informed me that if we went to UNMH that she knew that she’d be able to stay with me and advocate for me. She informed me that if anything was really wrong with my baby that he would be transferred to UNMH by other hospitals and could potentially lead to the separation of my baby and I. Since my husband had to stay home with our other children I trusted my midwife’s advice and we made the detour to UNMH.
Once I was signed in at the hospital we waited for the doctor to come in to meet me. As soon as abortionist, Lisa Hofler, walked in the door I immediately recognized her and my heart sank. At that moment, I panicked and asked myself if I should get up and go to another hospital.
“UNM Hospital has betrayed women and children by blurring the lines of true medicine. True medicine heals, not harms all of the individuals entrusted into their care, both born and unborn. Doctors can’t deliver babies at UNM Hospital and also kill babies at UNM Center For Reproductive Health abortion facility and maintain our trust, stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.”
Instead, I gathered my composure and I told her that my baby’s life is just as important as my life but that if anything happened during delivery, to please save my baby. It was the main point I wanted to get across because I instantly did not trust this woman with the life of my unborn child knowing that she destroys little babies bodies by abortion on the days she is not delivering them.
The next few hours concluded with a very emergent c-section, my son was born with an APGAR of 1 out of 10 and Hofler said that he was looking straight at her with a stunned look on his face. He was stuck in my pelvic bone and had to be pried out of my womb.
I’m thankful that my son survived being delivered by an abortionist but it has come with a certain level of shame and trauma. Delivering there was a compromise on my part, because I’ve spent so much time over the years exposing UNM’s radically pro-abortion agenda. I was forced to have an abortionist as my labor and delivery doctor and had been given no other choice. In fact, Hofler told me after the fact that every doctor in labor and delivery that night was also an abortionist.
This situation put me as a pregnant woman in a dilemma that I never should have had to face. At delivery women should not have to worry whether or not their baby will be protected by those who are supposed to heal and not harm.
Birthing a child should be a joyous occasion, it is the most natural and beautiful process we as women get to experience. Hospitals like UNMH have blurred the lines of legitimate healthcare by allowing abortionists, who have betrayed true medicine, to deliver babies at the hospital on the days that they are not killing them at their free standing abortion facility.

Albuquerque, New Mexico- A recent report published by The Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC) revealed that the abortion drug, mifepristone, is significantly more dangerous than the FDA drug label currently indicates.
This largest-known study of the abortion pill is based on analysis of data from an all-payer insurance claims database that includes 865,727 prescribed mifepristone abortions from 2017 to 2023.
10.93 percent of women experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or another serious adverse event within 45 days following a mifepristone abortion.
The real-world rate of serious adverse events following mifepristone abortions is at least 22 times as high as the summary figure of “less than 0.5 percent” in clinical trials reported on the drug label.
The FDA should immediately reinstate its earlier, stronger patient safety protocols to ensure physician responsibility for women who take mifepristone under their care, as well as mandate full reporting of its side effects.
The FDA should further investigate the harm mifepristone causes to women and, based on objective safety criteria, reconsider its approval altogether.
Since 2000, the FDA safety standards regulating the abortion pill have decreased significantly.
In fact, a report published by Abortion Free New Mexico in 2024 revealed,
“While ALL of the abortion facilities provide the abortion pill, half (6) of the abortion facilities across New Mexico exclusively provide only chemical abortions also known as medical abortions.”
Shockingly, Abortion Free New Mexico’s report also exposed that,
“ALL of the free-standing abortion facilities distributing the abortion pill across New Mexico are prescribing the medical abortions well beyond the FDA’s approved cut off of 10 weeks.

3 dispense the pill up to 11 weeks 6 days.
Full Circle Health Center located in Las Cruces, New Mexico offers the abortion pill up to 12 weeks.”
“It’s no surprise that a drug with a black box warning is more dangerous than originally thought. The sad thing is that most, if not all, abortion seeking women will not be informed of the facts listed in this report. New Mexico abortion centers are making these drugs even more accessible and dangerous by going beyond the FDA’s limits. Every abortion is an injustice, a crime against humanity, the abortion pill drugs should be taken off the market immediately.”
The Good News
Despite Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s radical attempt to expand abortion coverage in New Mexico, abortions actually decreased by 2,350 in 2024.
“This downward trend signals that fewer women are making the tragic choice of abortion, even in a state where abortion remains legal up to the date of birth. That change may be due in part to increased education, public awareness campaigns, and spiritual outreach. Organizations like Abortion Free New Mexico have actively sought to reach women through billboard campaigns along major highways from Texas, offering messages of love and encouragement to mothers in crisis. One reads simply, ‘Mommy. Be brave and turn around. I love you.’”

OPINION: WHY SIDEWALK MINISTRY AT ABORTION CENTERS IS SO IMPORTANT

What would you do if you knew where 30 children were going to be killed tomorrow? What if it were legal and their parents were paying someone to do it? Would you stay at home and pray that their parents changed their minds, go to where they were to be killed and plead for their lives, or would you feel no responsibility and do nothing?
This is a very serious scenario that, unfortunately, is a reality in Albuquerque.
Alamo Women’s abortion center, where our team of volunteers does sidewalk outreach, ends the lives of 30-50 pre-born children every Saturday. The only difference from the above scenario is that the children being killed are still in their mother’s womb.
These children, at 18 to 21 days after conception or fertilization takes place have a beating heart. Their own unique DNA profile has been created and it’s different from their mother and their father. They are being fearfully and wonderfully made, fiercely knit together by the hand of the one true God of the universe. He cares so much for them, He has a plan for their life.
These tiny humans are hidden from the naked eye but an ultrasound shows us their humanity. Each one is a son or a daughter, worthy of value and protection. Their size, location, level of development and degree of dependency doesn’t change who they fundamentally are.
Now that we’ve set the stage, we have to ask ourselves, is it important to be at these places called abortion centers to speak and act on their behalf? Do we have a duty to intervene?
Children whose own parents are not protecting them, have actually hired a hitman to exterminate their lives forever. We go to the sidewalk, knowing that our presence alone can be the sign that can convict a mom‘s heart to turn around and change her mind, but we take every opportunity to speak hope and truth into each woman’s unique situation when given the chance.
Abortion is the purposeful taking of an innocent human life, and it is never God‘s will for us to sacrifice our children on the altar of convenience so that we can live how we want to live without responsibility.
Since we know that innocent children are being killed we need to act like it is murder. There are 11 abortion centers in New Mexico and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has secured funding (20 million dollars) for two more with your hard earned tax dollars which makes us all culpable.

Three billboards (two digital and one static) have been strategically placed along two separate major roadways in Texas toward New Mexico to reach women traveling for abortions. The website, PregnancyHelpToday.com, that is featured on the billboards, was created to present vital information, resources and financial assistance that is available to pregnant women in crisis. The financial assistance is provided by the Abortion Free New Mexico Life Fund.
The Life Fund meets the emergent financial needs of pregnant women in crisis. When a pregnant woman needs help paying rent, utility bills, childcare and other miscellaneous needs that often make women feel like an abortion is the only answer, the Life Fund is there to support her.

As pro-life states like Texas are seeing their abortion numbers decrease significantly as a result of Roe v. Wade being overturned and abortion trigger laws, pro-abortion states like New Mexico are unfortunately seeing out of state abortions increase significantly!
Tragically, the vast majority of the out of state abortions being obtained in New Mexico are on women from Texas who are evading their states pro-life laws.According to a report from the Pinon Post,
“14,200 Texas babies were killed in the womb in New Mexico, marking a tragic influx since the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.”
Radical pro-abortion politicians, including New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D), have created an abortion “free for all” by utilizing state tax dollars to fund ad campaigns to draw Texas women into our state for abortions, recruit out of state abortionists to New Mexico to perform abortions, and has funded two multi-million dollar abortion centers to expand abortion into our state.
Additionally, Planned Parenthood funded at least two billboards celebrating unrestricted access to abortion in New Mexico (one pictured below).

“Crazed New Mexico democrats are hell bent on expanding abortion tourism into our state. So we have launched our response to their dangerous tax-funded targeting of out-of state pregnant mothers. The primary message of our billboard campaign is to encourage Texas women to ‘Turn Around’ and not come to New Mexico to end the lives of their pre-born children. The fact that women can circumvent Texas abortion laws, by interstate travel, is a real constitutional crisis that must ultimately be addressed by the United States Supreme Court.
How is the right to life in the United States of America lost by crossing a state line?”
Overcoming Major Roadblocks
This pro-life billboard campaign faced several roadblocks. Two major billboard companies: Lamar, and Lindmark rejected our billboards. Lamar cancelled our initial contract for, “abortion pill reversal language” on the website PregnancyHelpToday.com! Lindmark initially approved the billboard design, but then a manager later rejected our pro-life campaign citing potential vandalism concerns!
Albuquerque, New Mexico- On April 2, as the United States Supreme Court hears oral arguments in the case of Kerr v. Planned Parenthood concerning state funding for the abortion provider, a protest will be held at the Planned Parenthood facility at 4630 Eubank Blvd NE in Albuquerque, from 12PM-1PM.
Abortion Free New Mexico is organizing one of nearly 100 other protests being coordinated nationwide on April 2 by the Pro-Life Action League and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, calling for Planned Parenthood to be stripped of all federal funding, and for all such funding to be redirected to health centers that do not perform abortions. Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion chain, receives nearly $700 million in taxpayer funding every year.
As the Trump administration looks for places to cut government funding, pro-life advocates are pointing to the nation’s largest abortion provider and their massive taxpayer subsidy. Protests will be held nationwide on April 2 in nearly 100 cities from coast to coast, supporting the defunding effort and educating the public about Planned Parenthood’s central role in the abortion industry and their long record of unethical activity.
“Planned Parenthood claims that American women rely on them for healthcare, but a recent New York Times expose found they’re spending more resources lobbying in Washington DC than they are helping women,” said Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.
“Planned Parenthood provides less than 1% of annual pap tests and breast exams, but performs 42% of annual abortions in the U.S. They’ve been caught shielding child predators, defrauding Medicaid, and harvesting fetal tissue for profit. This controversial organization does not deserve our tax dollars.”
Shaver emphasizes that pro-life advocates calling for the defunding of Planned Parenthood are adamant that no funding should be taken away from programs that help poor women and families. Every dollar taken from Planned Parenthood must be redirected to health centers that provide a wider range of services and higher standard of care than Planned Parenthood, without doing abortions
“The effort to defund Planned Parenthood has nothing to do with taking healthcare away from women. It’s about taking tax dollars away from the nation’s largest abortion chain,” she explained.
Santa Fe, New Mexico- An abortion specific bill was recently passed by the New Mexico Senate, that will soon be voted on in the House floor, it will censor public records requests pertaining to abortion providers resulting in withholding important public information from the taxpaying citizens of New Mexico.

The University of New Mexico’s own analysis of the bill stated that it will relieve a burden on fulfilling IPRA requests related to abortion at UNM, even though only 24 requests have been submitted this year. They claim that IPRA’s specific to their free standing abortion center, UNM Center for Reproductive Health, targets abortion providers and take too much of their time. However, the public has a right to know how their taxpayer dollars are used, especially at public institutions, and just how much is paid through Medicaid for abortions.The Albuquerque Journal recently referenced our efforts to obtain public 911 records documenting numerous abortion related injuries being sustained at abortion clinics across New Mexico, including several at the UNM Center For Reproductive Health abortion center, in defense of this legislation. However, that was just disinformation because none of the 911 calls obtained by Abortion Free New Mexico revealed any identifying information about the individuals performing the abortions. That information is already being redacted, in fact, now 911 calls from abortion facilities in New Mexico are being suppressed from public scrutiny altogether citing HIPPA protections.
How hypocritical of UNM to support this legislation to cover up the names of abortionists yet they currently have a Sunshine Portal where the public can see how much every doctor at UNM is paid. One such abortionist is Lisa Hofler, who makes $540,000 a year or $45,000 a month. How much of her salary is paid for by those of us who do not support the killing at UNM? If abortion providers want to be excluded from public scrutiny they should stop receiving tax dollars to fund their barbaric practices.

“One of the main problems with Senate Bill 57 is that most if not all of the individuals performing abortions are being reimbursed by New Mexico Medicaid which is funded by state tax dollars.
It is a complete violation of the public trust to not disclose where taxpayer money is spent. The lack of transparency in the New Mexico government is appalling and it just keeps getting worse.
Pro-lifers have a long history of utilizing public records requests to identify abortion providers who have lost their medical license due to medical negligence or malpractice. In many documented instances abortionists have even killed women during abortions. The general public, and especially women seeking abortions, should have access to this information. Abortion providers shouldn’t be exempt from public scrutiny, whereas other medical practitioners are accountable to the public in every other field of legitimate medicine.

By Bud Shaver, Albuquerque, New Mexico- A new “queer” led abortion center has opened up in Albuquerque that performs abortions in all three trimesters. The Valley Abortion Group, also known as VAG clinic, was in its early stages of planning by third trimester abortionist, Carmen Landau when she died suddenly in October of 2022 at an illicit drug use conference. This is now the sixth abortion center operating in the city of Albuquerque.
It’s All About AbortionNo other services are offered except abortion at the Valley Abortion Group. As with most abortion centers, they are heavily leaning on multiple abortion funds to help women get their abortions for free. They even help with travel coordination, presumably primarily for those coming from out of state. In 2023, over 14,000 women from Texas came to New Mexico to end the lives of their children via abortion.
Valley Abortion Group performs elective abortions up to 32 weeks of pregnancy and in the third trimester they utilize the grisly M.O.L.D procedure that was crafted by late term abortionist George Tiller.
MOLD is an acronym for the four products employed in the abortion process: Misoprostol, Oxytocin, Laminaria, and Digoxin.
This induction abortion method takes 3-4 days to complete. On the first day the woman is given an ultrasound to determine the gestational age of her baby. Then, with the aid of the ultrasound to guide the abortionist, a lethal dose of the heart medication Digoxin is injected into the baby’s heart one of two ways: either directly through the mother’s abdomen or via the mother, vaginally. Digoxin gives the baby a fatal heart attack. This is an off-label application of the drug, which was developed and approved as a treatment for heart disease.
After the Digoxin injection, the woman’s cervix is packed with laminaria, thin tampon-like sticks made of seaweed that expand the cervix gradually over the next day.
The next day, the woman is repacked with larger laminaria sticks and given Misoprostol to prepare her for active labor.
On the final day of the abortion, the woman is given the drug Oxytocin, which induces contractions and the onset of labor. Women then are placed in a room where they endure the labor process. When it is determined that the labor has progressed to the stage where the baby is about to be delivered they often deliver their stillborn child in a toilet or basin.
Valley Abortion Group charges $12,500 for a 28 week abortion and at 32 weeks of pregnancy the cost is a staggering $17,500. New Mexico is one of 17 states that uses state tax dollars through Medicaid to fully fund abortions.Mixed MessagesThis radically progressive Valley Abortion Group
is seemingly trying to set itself apart from traditional abortion centers by claiming that there is a problem with “inequity.”
The Valley Abortion Group (VAG) Facebook page states that,
“At VAG our providers deliver care through an antiracist, survivor-centered, trauma-informed approach”
and that,
“All Genders Have Abortions.”
Apparently this just means that, to them, all the other abortion providers in New Mexico are racist bigots. Another big emphasis on their social media pages is a call to, “Free Palestine.”
“The Valley Abortion Group leaders seem very confused and unstable with fringe allegiances, ranging from the ‘queer’ community, which are physically unable to reproduce, to Palestinians in Gaza who are not indigenous to New Mexico. One thing is for sure, they are proudly hell bent on ending the lives of pre-born children up to the day of birth. No matter how hard they try though, they’ll never get rid of abortion stigma and rightly so, it’s not normal for mothers to intentionally take the lives of their pre-born children,” stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.”
According to the NPI Registry, Thanh-Tam Ho a Certified Nurse Midwife, at the University of New Mexico is the co-medical director of the Valley Abortion Group. It also appears that Miriam McQuade, MD is affiliated with this abortion center.
The Abortion Free New Mexico sidewalk teams will begin reaching out to pregnant women at this new location to offer prayer, hope and resources to help them choose life for their babies.
Tara Shaver continued,
“The last thing New Mexico needs is another abortion provider. New Mexicans need to come together to build a culture that views motherhood as a beautiful gift and children as a blessing. So many leftist ideologies have permeated our culture and since there are no common sense laws such as waiting periods, informed consent or gestational limitations pregnant women in crisis are vulnerable to the predatory abortion industry. Abortion is innately traumatizing to a woman’s body, mind and soul. The Valley Abortion Group is unfortunately contributing to the degradation of women by only offering abortion procedures instead of real life resources that empower women to motherhood.”
Albuquerque, New Mexico- Lamar billboard company has halted a pro-life campaign launched by Life Ministries U.S. in Texas due to,
“abortion pill reversal language”

This surprising decision came after Life Ministries US signed contracts with the company and weeks of working with a Lamar artist to design a billboard that reminds abortion seeking Texas women that their state laws are in place to protect them and their pre-born babies.
According to Tara Shaver of Life Ministries US,
“While the design of our pro-life billboard was approved quickly and without issue, according to email correspondence with Lamar representatives in Texas, the General Manager took issue with “Abortion Pill Reversal language” mentioned on the website that is featured on the billboard.
PregnancyHelpToday.com is the website that we created for this campaign to educate women traveling to New Mexico for abortions. It has information about pregnancy resource centers, abortion procedures and risks, abortion pill reversal and much more.
We are disappointed and shocked that Lamar is violating our free speech in attempting to control the content of a website that is on one of their boards. The Abortion Pill Reversal protocol has been proven to reverse the effects of taking the chemical abortion drug mifepristone. In fact, at least 6,000 babies have been reportedly saved using this proven protocol! The reversal protocols must be carried out by a licensed physician and it is the right of every woman to know her options before and after an abortion.”

Tara Shaver requested clarification for which specific policy violation would result in the termination of the contract,
“Since there was no mention of this being a policy of Lamar’s on the contract, we would like to see that policy in writing that is being referred to with regard to the abortion pill reversal.
PregnancyHelpToday.com completes our billboard message because we’re not only wanting to let women know that Texas laws protect them and their babies, but we want them to be able to find help and alternatives to abortion as well. This includes abortion pill reversal options should a woman decide to change her mind.
Please provide Lamar‘s written policy with regard to this matter. Thank you very much.”
I have attached a copy of Lamar’s Copy Acceptance Policy for your review. Also, as per our contract: Standard Condition 6. Copy Acceptance: Lamar reserves the right to determine if copy and design are in good taste and within the moral standards of the individual communities in which it is to be displayed. Lamar reserves the right to reject or remove any copy either before or after installation, including immediate termination of this contract.
In communication with our Executive Vice-President of Governmental Relations, it has been determined that we can not run the submitted creative as content within the website provided falls outside of the Copy Acceptance Policy.”
Tara Shaver spokeswoman for Life Ministries US issued the following statement in response,
“The primary message of our billboard campaign is to encourage Texas women to ‘Turn Around’ and not come to New Mexico to end the lives of their pre-born children. We firmly believe that every woman deserves to know that if she has taken the abortion pill that she can change her mind especially if she is traveling home from New Mexico to Texas. Unfortunately, this is a truth that the abortion industry withholds from women. Furthermore, since abortions are illegal in Texas, the abortion pill reversal is absolutely in line with the moral standards of Texas.
It is our opinion that it’s Lamar’s (corporate management) standards that are out of line with the state of Texas.
The fact that women can circumvent Texas abortion laws, by interstate travel, to New Mexico and Lamar’s obstruction of our pro-life free speech efforts to prevent that, is the real moral violation here.“

Lamar has pro-abortion billboards throughout New Mexico and Texas. The one pictured above is at the New Mexico border. In Texas, Lamar allowed billboards that claimed “Abortion is a Blessing” to be posted in 2020.
Tara Shaver calls out the blatant contradiction of standards by Lamar management,

Lamar billboard company is on the wrong side of this situation. They claim to support the first amendment but seemingly want to withhold life saving information from abortion seeking women. One can only assume that they are willfully censoring our pro-life speech due to an internal pro-abortion bias within the higher levels of management.

Therefore, the intention of our 2025 interstate campaign is to primarily reach abortion bound women traveling to New Mexico from Texas and provide them with help and alternatives to abortion.
Albuquerque, New Mexico- Every week for several years, Abortion Free New Mexico’s (AFNM) sidewalk counseling team has interacted with a security guard at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) abortion center. Some days, he has been aggressive and hostile, other times he actually seemed supportive of our efforts. Due to the AFNM team’s public opposition to the University of New Mexico’s radical abortion agenda, he appeared to be struggling with a crisis of conscience.
“A University of New Mexico (UNM) employee attempted to drown out our message. (parked their car and intentionally turned on their car alarm. Our efforts will not be silenced.
He shared at one point, after being educated by the AFNM sidewalk counseling team about the dangers to women posed by this facility, that he would at times encourage mothers to seek help from AFNM volunteers, and in the middle of 2024, he shared that a relative of his, was struggling with cancer.
AFNM volunteers would pray with him regularly and always encouraged him to find work elsewhere.
Praise God, the Abortion Free New Mexico sidewalk counseling team has confirmed that this security guard quit his job from the abortion industry because in his own words,
“I just couldn’t do it anymore.”
The effectiveness of sidewalk ministry is boundless.

While we rejoice when a mom chooses life, we also rejoice when abortion workers walk away from the abortion industry. Abortion Free New Mexico applauds this abortion clinic worker who bravely walked away from the UNM free-standing abortion facility (UNMCRH). This testimony is a direct result of our volunteers who prayerfully minister to everyone with love and compassion.”

It is the policy of the United States, consistent with the Hyde Amendment, to end the forced use of Federal taxpayer dollars to fund or promote elective abortion.”
The Trump administration will temporarily stop payments on multiple federal programs Tuesday evening [.]”
It was unclear how this freeze on federal funds would impact Medicaid.
Democratic U.S. senators reported Medicaid portals in all 50 states were down on Tuesday.”
However, a subsequent document issued from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) stated,
“In addition to Social Security and Medicare, already explicitly excluded in the guidance, mandatory programs like Medicaid and SNAP will continue without pause.”
Interestingly though, this document clearly indicated that programs affected by this freeze on federal funds must adhere to President Donald J. Trumps recent Executive Orders including the, “Enforcing The Hyde Amendment”.
New Mexico is one of the most dependent states upon federal funds to cover Medicaid. According to Google AI,
In 2022, the federal government covered 84.6% of New Mexico’s Medicaid costs.
Medicaid is the largest expenditure in New Mexico’s budget.

Washington D.C.- On Thursday, January 23, 2025 President Donald J. Trump issued a pardon for 23 pro-life prisoners, imprisoned during the former President, Joe Biden’s, administration. Abortion Free New Mexico was one of several pro-life organizations that were publicly urging President Donald J. Trump to issue a pardon.
President Trump remarked during the signing of the pardon,
“They should never have been prosecuted, many of them are elderly people.”
President Trump concluded the signing of the pardon ceremony by stating,
“This is a great honor to sign this.”

Santa Fe, New Mexico- The New Mexico Supreme Court unanimously ruled on Thursday, January 9, 2025 that counties and cities across the state cannot enact pro-life laws to protect pre-born babies. The Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn ordinances that were passed in New Mexico are known as Comstock Only Ordinances. These laws are not explicit abortion bans, but are “de facto” abortion bans. They require compliance with federal statutes specifically, specifically 18 U.S.C. § 1461 and 18 U.S.C. § 1462, prohibiting the mailing and receiving of abortion-inducing drugs and paraphernalia, according to Mark Lee Dickson.According to the New Mexico Supreme Court’s overriding opinion,
The Court wrote that the ordinances did not exactly follow federal law but went beyond the requirements. Several of the ordinances authorized city or county leaders to approve or deny licenses for abortion clinics and providers.
‘Because Respondents’ authority to regulate health care access and physician licensure is entirely preempted, Respondents’ police powers in these areas are extremely limited,’ the Court wrote. ‘To the extent Respondents have any residual authority, they certainly have no power to supplant the will of the statewide electorate in favor of their own.’
The counties and cities affected by the decision are: Lea County, Roosevelt County, Eunice, Clovis, Hobbs and Edgewood New Mexico. Lea County Board of County Commissioners passed, “A Resolution In Support of the Unborn” making Lea County the FIRST Sanctuary County in New Mexico for the UNBORN! Jonathan Sena, District 4 County Commissioner sponsored the resolution. Thank you and God Bless Lea County, New Mexico!
The other counties and cities soon followed in their footsteps and took swift action to enact pro-life measures to prevent radical pro-abortion expansion into their communities.

After each local government in New Mexico voted to adopt a resolution essentially denouncing abortion, the fiercely anti-abortion organization Abortion Free New Mexico, run by Albuquerque residents Bud and Tara Shaver, issued a news release touting the action.”
Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement:
In 2022, the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and ruled that states all across the country can now enact and enforce laws protecting the unborn. The Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn ordinances were based on federal laws that should absolutely be enforceable in every state.
The unconstitutional ruling by the New Mexico Supreme Court just proves that federal protection must be granted to restore personhood to the unborn because it should never be left up to corrupt states to arbitrarily decide who lives and who dies. Abortion Free New Mexico condemns the New Mexico Supreme Court’s decision to undermine federal laws from being enforced in our state where abortion tourism is so rampant. Women and children deserve better, cities and counties should be able to protect their citizens, whether born or unborn.”
Albuquerque, New Mexico- As 2024 comes to an end Abortion Free New Mexico has surveyed New Mexico abortion centers to assess their abortion practices. Unfortunately, in the wake of Roe vs. Wade being overturned in 2022 and the longstanding lack of any common sense protections for unborn children and pregnant women, there is now a dangerous trend of out of state abortion clinics relocating to New Mexico as well as chemical abortion providers expanding throughout the state.
Abortionist Alan Braid now owns both Alamo Women’s Clinic of Albuquerque and Southwestern Women’s Options. Southwestern Women’s Options is the notorious late-term abortion center, formerly owned by abortionist Curtis Boyd. Their website advertises abortions up to 32 weeks of pregnancy for “fetal anomalies”, but when you call the facility they only schedule election abortions up to 25 weeks. No further details were given over the phone for scheduling the later-term abortions for fetal anomalies.

Notable Facts
New Mexico allows telemedicine abortions via mail and has no gestational limits on abortion- full term abortions are legal through all nine months of pregnancy.
While ALL of the abortion facilities provide the abortion pill, half (6) of the abortion facilities across New Mexico exclusively provide only chemical abortions also known as medical abortions.
Half (6) of the abortion providers relocated to New Mexico from out of state (4 from Texas).
Notable Dangerous Trend
The majority (9) of New Mexico abortion facilities including ALL of the Planned Parenthood clinics, Whole Woman’s Health, Southwestern Women’s Options, Alamo Women’s Clinic of Albuquerque and The Satanic Temple offer remote or telemedicine appointments where women seeking abortions never step foot into an abortion facility nor do they receive any in-person screenings. The abortion clinic mails the abortion pills and the pregnant woman’s home becomes the abortion facility where they will flush their baby down the toilet after taking two different medications, Mifepristone (blocks progesterone) and Misoprostol (triggers contractions).
ALL of the free-standing abortion facilities distributing the abortion pill across New Mexico are prescribing the medical abortions well beyond the FDA’s approved cut off of 10 weeks.

Abortion Pills Are Dangerously Distributed Well Beyond 7 Weeks
While the FDA initially approved the abortion pill to only be administered up to 7 weeks gestation, in 2016 the FDA approved the abortion pill for use up to 10 weeks gestation but only when administered during an in-person visit where an ultrasound is performed to ensure that there in not an ectopic pregnancy. Abortion facilities across New Mexico are dangerously administering the abortion pill remotely with no in-person visit to unsuspecting women well beyond 10 weeks, in violation of FDA protocols.
“It’s important to note that even the 10 week gestational cut-off is much later than what was originally approved by the FDA. Mifeprex (mifepristone) was first approved for chemical abortions in 2000 with a gestational cut-off of seven weeks. In 2016, the gestational cut-off was moved to 10 weeks, when paired with an in-person visit. This dangerous rollback ushered in a steady removal of safety regulations over the next several years.
Those removals came to a head in 2020, when the Biden administration used the COVID pandemic to temporarily suspend the requirement that abortion drugs must be given during an in-person visit with a doctor.
Shortly after Biden allowed the temporary suspension, the FDA made that change permanent, and abortion-pills-by-mail began to skyrocket. When a group of doctors dealing with growing complications from the reckless use of the abortion pill regimen tried to challenge these dangerous changes in the courts, the U.S. Supreme Court ultimately ruled the doctors had no standing and allowed all the rollbacks to stay in place.”
The Abortion Pill has a “Black Box” Warning
It is important to note that the abortion pill was approved by the FDA in 2000 to only be used up to 7 weeks gestation due to serious risks and health complications including death. In fact, the abortion pill comes with notorious “Black Box” warning.
“What ‘Black Box’ Means: Drugs only receive this label in the case of serious, often deadly adverse reactions, which have been reported to the FDA after the drug was originally approved. In some cases, the manufacturers of these drug hid their knowledge of the side effects to speed the approval process, so the problems weren’t found until after release.”

Year End Finale For Life 2024
We had an amazing Year End Finale For Life luncheon on 11/16. We had comedy provided by local stand-up comedian Virginia Gonzalez. Mark Lee Dickson ofSanctuary Cities For The Unbornshared virtually an encouragement to stay involved locally. We heard heartfelt testimonies from several volunteers and had a spectacular silent auction benefitting the Life Fund.

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Charges have been filed with the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) against assailant, Derek Moore, for the altercation that occurred outside of Whole Woman’s Health abortion center, on August 15, 2024 involving Abortion Free New Mexico leader, Bud Shaver.
According to the police report two separate charges were filed against Derek Moore:
Aggravated Assault With Deadly Weapon
Larceny – Miscellaneous Under $250
The larceny charge (under $250) is a petty misdemeanor and the aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge is a 4th degree felony in the state of New Mexico carrying a maximum sentence of 18 months imprisonment.
Moore admits to swerving his car, toward Bud Shaver, while driving past Whole Woman’s Health abortion center, but claims to have been:
“distracted and accidently pulled to close to a curb, then swerved back into his lane and continued on his way.” [sic]
On the day of the incident however, Derek Moore seemingly admits to attempting to run down Bud Shaver, when confronted on video, he derisively states,
“Call the cops, they aren’t going to do anything.”
Responding to the police concerning the larceny charge (stealing a pro-life sign):
“Derek stated he saw someone (Shaver) obstructing the sidewalk with a bunch of garbage, so he parked his car. Derek stated he then went and picked up a piece of the garbage to ‘throw it out’. Derek stated (Shaver) followed him and called him a communist. Derek stated (Shaver) was having an ‘illegal protest and obstructing the sidewalk’.”
Thankfully, the incident was recorded on video and the evidence speaks for itself. Please pray that justice is served and that Mr. Moore comes to know the Lord Jesus Christ.
Abortion Free New Mexico has daily teams of sidewalk counselors outside of three local abortion centers throughout Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their signs contain positive messages offering help and hope to abortion bound women. They also have tangible help on hand: baby items, Love Boxes, and a vast wealth of resources to offer the mom’s. The teams maintain a peaceful, prayerful, free speech presence while exercising their 1st Amendment rights and abide by all local and state laws.
After publishing the initial report documenting the altercation on August 15, 2024 Abortion Free New Mexico was contacted by other local pro-life sidewalk counselors. Derek Moore was able to be identified, because he apparently has a history of harassing peaceful pro-lifer’s and has allegedly attempted to steal their signs in the past.

A strong message needs to be sent to the pro-abortion community that they can’t attack peaceful pro-life Christians for simply living out their Christian faith in the public square. Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers go the the sidewalks outside of local abortion centers with love and compassion. Clearly our peaceful, prayerful presence is having an impact. Our team will not be deterred, we will purchase some more signs and materials and return to Whole Woman’s Health abortion facility more resolute than ever to help pregnant women in need and save precious babies lives.”
By Bud Shaver, Albuquerque, New Mexico- On August 15, 2024, Abortion Free New Mexico leader, Bud Shaver, was peacefully and prayerfully reaching out to abortion bound women at Whole Woman’s Health abortion facility located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As part of his first amendment activity, he had pro-life signs, a “Love Box” containing baby items and helpful resources for pregnant moms, a diaper cake and Texas Department of Health resource publications (A Woman’s Right To Know and Resource Directory).
While he was waiting for the rest of his team to arrive, at approximately 8:15AM, a man in a vehicle (arrayed with several activist bumper stickers one being a LGBT equal sign) rapidly swerved over (from the driving lane into the parking lane) in a violent show of force attempting to strike Bud on the sidewalk. A few minutes later, the man approached Bud on the sidewalk and attempted to steal a large pro-life sign pictured above. Bud told the man to he couldn’t steal his property and took the sign away from him.
After failing to steal the first sign, the man then fled and grabbed another sign (front stating, “FREE RESOURCES Pull Over For Help!” back stating, “Love Will End Abortion”). Bud followed him around the block, but was not able to retrieve the sign.
When Bud returned to Whole Woman’s Health abortion facility, he noticed that his pro-life resources had been stolen, presumably by the abortion center workers!
On the sidewalks in front of abortion centers you never know what you will encounter. This incident happened very quickly and Bud tried to de-escalate the situation in the face of a hostile pro-abortionist that had demonstrated his intentions in his vehicle before approaching him on the sidewalk. Please pray for our teams that stand in the gap for pregnant moms and babies daily in the Albuquerque area.

By Bud Shaver, Albuquerque, New Mexico- On August 5, 2024, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that her administration launched a $400,000 ad campaign throughout Texas to recruit more abortionists to New Mexico.
“The ad campaign, strewn across five major Texas newspapers and displayed across six billboards around the Houston Medical Center, is aiming to lure doctors to New Mexico, where they will have the ‘Freedom to Provide’ abortion, among other ostensible health services.”
For over eight years, New Mexico has ranked last in the nation for education (the entire tenure of governor Michelle Lujan Grisham) and consistently ranks as one of the poorest states in the country. In addition to using New Mexico tax dollars to recruit abortionists, New Mexico Medicaid fully funds abortions as well. Is it not obvious that tax dollars would be better utilized to help pull children out of poverty and provide them with a good education, not kill them?

The New Mexico Democrat controlled legislature couldn’t even deliver public safety measures to the people of New Mexico during its recent emergency special session. New Mexico has a vast supply of natural resources that should provide a high quality of life to every child in our state, but instead, the leaders only want to use our tax dollars to kill its most greatest asset, our children.”
New Mexico Department of Health Provides Tax Funded Abortions to “Undocumented People”
Abortion Free New Mexico discovered a website highlighted by the New Mexico Department of Health (pictured above) that is also promoting Medicaid funded abortions for (illegal) “undocumented” immigrant women and they emphatically state,
“A social security number is not required to get these benefits.”
In fact, this website boasts how Planned Parenthood of New Mexico intentionally skirts around regulatory requirements to provide abortions to (illegal) “undocumented” immigrant women.
In case there wasn’t enough proof of the abortion free for all in New Mexico, the radically pro-abortion network, “Hey Jane” spells is out pretty clearly:

“Abortion Free New Mexico has organized a concentrated prayer and outreach effort at the Whole Woman’s Health abortion center located in Albuquerque where babies are murdered up to 20 weeks of pregnancy. We invite the pro-life community and Christians across the state to join us to ensure that every woman seeking an abortion knows that there is help available and that their baby is created in the image of God.
We as believers in Jesus Christ must put our faith into action, in the public square, every chance we can to thwart the evil of unrestricted abortion tourism into our state,”stated Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico.
Albuquerque, New Mexico- The leading pro-abortion research and policy organization, Guttmacher Institute, published the most recent data available revealing a staggering increase in abortions in New Mexico since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022. According to Guttmacher Institute, 71% of abortions performed in New Mexico were from out of state women in 2023. By contrast, in 2020, 38% of abortions performed in New Mexico were women from out of state. The total number of abortions performed in New Mexico in 2020 were 5,880 (38% out of state) therefore, 2,234 abortions were from out of state women. Shockingly, the total number
of abortions performed in New Mexico in 2023 were
20,950 (71% out of state) therefore, 14,875 abortions were from out of state women.
This represents a staggering 565% increase in women coming from other states to have their abortions performed in New Mexico since 2020!
14,200 Texas babies were killed in the womb in New Mexico, marking a tragic influx since the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.”
That means, 95% of all out of state abortions performed in New Mexico are from women traveling from Texas.
Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement:
Every day Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers minister to out of state women coming to Albuquerque for abortions. The majority of these women are from Texas as two Texas based abortion facilities relocated to Albuquerque after Roe v. Wade was overturned. These killing centers specifically target Texas women. Many of them are experiencing conflicting emotions as the abortion industry and its collaborators are using new methods of coercion by funding travel expenses and accommodations in addition to fully funding their abortions. It is time for more concerned citizens to rise up and be engaged in the battle for Life that we are now facing. Women deserve better than abortion, it is not healthcare and there are so many resources available to them.”
Since 2017, the average number of abortions performed in New Mexico was around 5,000 however, after Roe v. Wade was overturned nearly 21,000 abortions were performed in New Mexico in 2023.
This represents a 353% increase in the total number of abortions performed in New Mexico since 2017!
While many are celebrating the overturning of Roe v. Wade and championing the fact that banning abortions is now in the hands of each individual state, the sad reality is, the number of abortions performed annually in the USA actually increased from 930,160 in 2020, to 1,037,200 in 2023 according to the Guttmacher Institute.
Tara Shaver continued,
Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, abortions have INCREASED as women just travel across state lines to kill their children. Pre-born babies all across America need and deserve constitutional personhood from the moment of conception. The United States Supreme Court and the U.S. Congress need to address the constitutional crisis that is looming for pre-born babies. How is the right to life lost by crossing a state line? This crisis is very reminiscent of the earliest days in this nation when free states and slave states existed. Surely we are not going back into that dark place where your place of residence determines your value.”

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico leader Bud Shaver, and faithful volunteer Mark (pictured above) helped a mom choose life this Thursday at the Whole Woman’s Health abortion center. As soon as Bud set up our new, “Hope & Help” display table, that our sidewalk counseling teams are now utilizing out at THREE abortion centers throughout Albuquerque, a woman approached them and picked up the “We Can Help” sign and stated:
“I just can’t go through with this, this is what I need!” [pointing to the sign]
She said that she just couldn’t go through with the abortion even though she had been to Whole Woman’s Health twice before. She is 17 weeks pregnant and said that she is really looking for help. She was able to connect with our partnering Love Life mentor and she has a meeting scheduled with a local maternity home, Casa de Mariposa.
Praise God that all of you continue to remain on the sidewalks, imagine if Bud and Mark hadn’t been there, she could’ve possibly gone through with the abortion thinking that there were no resources available to her.

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers helped a mom choose life this morning at the Alamo Women’s abortion center. This mom flew from San Antonio, Texas after a tremendous amount of pressure from her parents. This pregnant mom became a hero today by choosing life for her baby. It took several volunteers and lots of conversation to empower her to rise above her situation and give her baby the chance to be born. She has been connected to the House of Refuge church in her area but we ask you to pray for the following:
That the mother is not swayed in her choice for life.
That the House of Refuge church connects her to all of the resources she needs.
That the father of the baby can find employment.
That the grandparents will embrace their newest grandchild.

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico is maintaining a daily/weekly presence at three local abortion facilities. Volunteers directly engage with women, men and family members to offer resources and the hope that is only found in Jesus Christ. Abortion Free New Mexico considers abortion centers to be a mission field, a mother seeking to kill her unborn child needs the gospel more than anything else.
On Monday, June 10th Tara joined another volunteer for sidewalk counseling at the Alamo Women’s abortion center. Here are the reasons women and couples gave for seeking to end the life of their child in the womb:
“When I told my boyfriend I was pregnant he told me to get rid of it. I already have one child, have had one abortion and I attend church regularly.”
“We already have so many kids.” (Older couple from Texas that looked to be in their 30’s-40’s)
“I already have 4 kids, my husband and I have already decided to do this.” (Mom admitted to having a previous abortion and believes in God and said that God would forgive her. Doesn’t attend church but does her own study of the Bible.)
“It’s Ok.”
While on the sidewalk, volunteers urge mothers and fathers to love their unborn child and to consider them as they do their born children. Our team also tells them the truth about fetal development, abortion effects and long term consequences. We also make sure they know that the abortion center is a business that wants to get paid for ending a life. Our team is grateful to be able to give these moms a Love Box with items to point their hearts toward their children.

Engaging the culture outside of an abortion center is a battleground. Most people entering believe they know Christ, yet they don’t honor Him with their actions or their lives. MINISTERING ON THE SIDEWALK WITH ABORTION FREE NEW MEXICO
How would you respond to the overwhelming response from out of state Texas women coming to New Mexico for their abortions?
“Yes, I believe in God, but he will just forgive me after I have this abortion.”
Albuquerque, New Mexico- On May 14, Abortion Free New Mexico visited La Cueva high school with the message that life is precious and worthy of protecting. In this affluent neighborhood our team was met with disrespect by several young men who were abortion supporters and a few young women who stopped to ask about abortion in the case of rape. Our team addressed the reasons why abortions should not be allowable even in cases of rape, the fact that both mom and baby are victims of the rape and having an abortion doesn’t undo the rape to name just two. We were also able to share with the young men nearby that abortion after rape protects the rapist when they should be the one criminalized.
On this day, the mother of a student (in the video below) decided to draw more attention to our presence by trying to censor our message.
She did everything she could to block one of our signs, the one showing an abortion victim. When we tried to find out why she would want to block the truth about abortion she refused to dialogue with us. Afterward our team gathered around with this lady still in our midst and we prayed for her. We prayed for her repentance and healing from any involvement in a previous abortion or involvement in another persons abortion. We have learned over the years that it is those who have been profoundly affected by abortion that lash out at us or try to prevent others from being educated about the reality of abortion.

On May 18th, Abortion Free New Mexico hosted its first Rummage Sale for Life to raise funds for The Life Fund which provides emergent financial support to pregnant mothers. The sale was a labor of love that culminated into a very successful event. The ministry raised over $2,000 and had countless opportunities to share local pro-life resources with members of the community.
The team also was able to minister to a woman who is battling loneliness and other issues in her life. She was prayed for and encouraged to attend a Bible study and Sunday services at the church where the sale was held.
A special thanks to Providence Presbyterian Church for hosting the Rummage Sale for Life, all of the volunteers that donated their time and to all who donated items.
“Ministry happens anywhere that we make ourselves available. So many are battling different things in their lives, it could be a past abortion, an unwanted divorce or separation, addiction or simply feeling alone in this world. It was a blessing to be able to bring light into our community at the Rummage Sale for Life, while working together to spread the message that there is hope and help for pregnant women considering an abortion,” stated Tara Shaver.

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Since late last year, Abortion Free New Mexico has been financially supporting a woman from Cuba that chose life for her baby girl, Mia, that is now almost 4 months old. This woman also has a 2 year old daughter and her husband, unfortunately, has stepped out of her life and has not been supporting her in any way.Your prayers and financial support have allowed us to make sure that she has a safe place to live, food and encouragement as a single mother. Supporting pregnant women during and after their babies birth is love in action. Abortion Free New Mexico has encouraged this mother to seek refuge at a church near her in Odessa, Texas and has shared the love of Christ with her in so many different ways. She has just about everything she needs for her girls and she works daily cooking Cuban food to cover her portion of the rent. Abortion Free New Mexico has paid half of her rent for the past 4 months.
We just wanted to give you an update and ask that you support the Life Fund so that we may continue to serve this mother as she pursues citizenship and eagerly strives for a better life for herself and her girls. We can’t continue to support her without your generosity.
