PLANNED PARENTHOOD REOPENS SANTA FE FACILITY AS NEW MEXICO’S ABORTION INDUSTRY EXPANDS AMID NATIONAL CLINIC CLOSURES

    By Bud Shaver,

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO — Abortion Free New Mexico is sounding the alarm following the reopening of a Planned Parenthood facility in Santa Fe offering chemical abortions up to 11 weeks of pregnancy, marking the second Planned Parenthood facility to reopen in New Mexico in recent weeks.

The expansion comes as Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country continue facing financial strain, clinic closures, and federal funding cuts. Reports published over recent years indicate Planned Parenthood facilities nationwide have closed or reduced services following Medicaid funding restrictions and broader federal defunding efforts.

Despite those national struggles, New Mexico political leaders have continued supporting abortion expansion efforts with taxpayer resources. In 2022, the Albuquerque City Council voted to allocate $250,000 to Planned Parenthood initiatives, signaling local government support for expanding abortion access in New Mexico. Abortion Free New Mexico previously documented the Albuquerque City Council funding decision in a public report.More recently, New Mexico lawmakers have advanced taxpayer funding intended to expand abortion access and infrastructure statewide, including publicly funded abortion projects currently under development in Northern and Southern New Mexico.

“At a time when Planned Parenthood facilities across the nation are shutting down under financial pressure, New Mexico politicians continue investing taxpayer resources into expanding the abortion industry here,” said Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.

The reopening of the Santa Fe Planned Parenthood facility further expands what Abortion Free New Mexico describes as a rapidly growing abortion landscape throughout the state.

According to Abortion Free New Mexico’s latest analysis, New Mexico now has:

    • 15 freestanding abortion facilities statewide (incudes the two under development)
    • 7 abortion facilities concentrated in Albuquerque alone
    • 2 taxpayer-funded abortion projects under development in Northern and Southern New Mexico
    • Additional mail-order abortion pill access is offered remotely through the satanic temple

Chemical abortions now account for approximately 63% of abortions both in New Mexico and nationally, reflecting a dramatic shift toward mail-order abortion pills and remote abortion distribution models.

Abortion Free New Mexico warns that the rapid expansion of chemical abortion access is occurring as statewide abortion reporting requirements are simultaneously being dismantled, limiting public visibility into complications, trends, and outcomes.

The organization also pointed to an anticipated U.S. Supreme Court ruling expected tomorrow that could significantly impact the future regulation and distribution of abortion drugs nationwide.

Abortion Free New Mexico recently raised concerns about The Satanic Temple’s promotion of abortion pill distribution under so-called “religious ritual” claims operating through telemedicine and mail-order abortion systems.

“If the U.S. Supreme Court allows the Fifth Circuit ruling to stand, it could significantly disrupt the mail-order abortion pill model being used by groups like The Satanic Temple to expand chemical abortion access nationwide — including in New Mexico,” said Shaver. “A ruling restoring in-person dispensing requirements would directly undermine the telemedicine and mail-order system these organizations rely on to operate.”

    Shaver continued.

“Chemical abortions have become the driving force behind abortion expansion in New Mexico,” said Shaver. “The question now is whether there will be any meaningful oversight, accountability, or legal limitations moving forward.”

Abortion Free New Mexico recently released a statewide “New Mexico Abortion Landscape” analysis documenting the concentration and continued expansion of abortion facilities and services throughout the state.

Abortion Worker Quits UNM Center For Reproductive Health Facility

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Every week for several years, Abortion Free New Mexico’s (AFNM) sidewalk counseling team has interacted with a security guard at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) abortion center. Some days, he has been aggressive and hostile, other times he actually seemed supportive of our efforts. Due to the AFNM team’s public opposition to the University of New Mexico’s radical abortion agenda, he appeared to be struggling with a crisis of conscience.

(Click here to watch Abortion Free New Mexico leader Bud Shaver in action)

“A University of New Mexico (UNM) employee attempted to drown out our message. (parked their car and intentionally turned on their car alarm. Our efforts will not be silenced.

He shared at one point, after being educated by the AFNM sidewalk counseling team about the dangers to women posed by this facility, that he would at times encourage mothers to seek help from AFNM volunteers, and in the middle of 2024, he shared that a relative of his, was struggling with cancer.

AFNM volunteers would pray with him regularly and always encouraged him to find work elsewhere.

Praise God, the Abortion Free New Mexico sidewalk counseling team has confirmed that this security guard quit his job from the abortion industry because in his own words,

I just couldn’t do it anymore.”

The effectiveness of sidewalk ministry is boundless.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement:

“You just can’t shake abortion stigma. The killing of an innocent child through abortion will never be normalized. Abortion, doesn’t just taint the women seeking abortions, but also the workers at abortion facilities. Shame, regret, and even self hatred haunts those most closely involved in abortions. While we rejoice when a mom chooses life, we also rejoice when abortion workers walk away from the abortion industry. Abortion Free New Mexico applauds this abortion clinic worker who bravely walked away from the UNM free-standing abortion facility (UNMCRH). This testimony is a direct result of our volunteers who prayerfully minister to everyone with love and compassion.”

Two Women Injured On The Same Day At UNMCRH Abortion Facility

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers documented two abortion related injuries on the same day at the University of New Mexico Center For Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) freestanding abortion facility. This is the EIGHTH abortion injury documented at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion center since Abortion Free New Mexico launched the daily sidewalk prayer initiative, No Sidewalk Without The Savior at UNMCRH in April of 2022.

The first abortion injury occurred at 2:30PM. At that time, a fire engine, police car and 2 ambulances were photographed onsite and a woman was wheeled out of the abortion center on a gurney and placed in an ambulance. Shockingly, the second abortion injury was documented around 4:00PM on the same day! Both women were taken to a local emergency room and their condition after a probable botched abortion injury is unknown.

First and second trimester abortions are performed up to 24 weeks (6 months) of pregnancy at this location. The UNMCRH is also a location which trains resident physicians how to perform abortions through the Ryan Residency Training program

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico, issued the following statement,

“Abortion at any stage of pregnancy is a brutal violent act. Precious unborn children pay the ultimate price with their lives but many times, as documented twice today, women sustain life threatening injuries because abortions are incredibly invasive and unnatural. Many women seeking abortions are not fully aware of the risks and they are even less likely to be told, by the abortion industry, about the alternatives to abortion. The pro-abortion community doesn’t care about women’s health, they just demand unrestricted abortion regardless of the life threatening consequences.”

Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers continue to be the on the frontlines everyday in front of Albuquerque abortion facilities. They serve as a voice for unborn children who are scheduled to die and as a resource for women who are open to hearing about all of their options.

    Lives Are Being Saved!

    By Tara Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On November 27th and December 2nd Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers witnessed two mothers leave the Alamo Women’s abortion center and choose life for their babies!

One of the men that information was given to said,

    “Thank you for being here.”

Our volunteers maintain a presence at the University of New Mexico abortion center and the Alamo Women’s abortion center 6 days a week. Their prayerful presence mixed with a readiness to engage these women, men and others who are complicit in abortion, undoubtedly saves lives. Each week these courageous men and women are armed with the word of God, invaluable resources and hearts that love these women and love life.

These volunteers see the struggle that women experience when confronted with the enormity of abortion and the uncertainty they have. Some women pray for a sign the days leading up to their abortion, others are feeling pressure on every side to kill their child, as if that will solve their problems.

In fact, just a few weeks ago our volunteers witnessed a woman who was arguing with the man who brought her for the abortion to the point of locking him out of their vehicle. He subsequently kicked in the glass window and police officers were called to the scene.

If these volunteers were not present, the women on the fence about their abortions would not receive the intervention of hope and help that we have to offer them.

Every life is a beautiful gift worthy of fighting for.

Thank you for making our ministry efforts possible by your prayers and support. Please pray for our selfless volunteers and consider joining us on the sidewalk. Training is provided.

  • 6th Injury at UNM Abortion Facility

6th Injury at UNM Abortion Facility

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On Wednesday, July 19th Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers documented the sixth abortion injury of 2023 at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion center. A fire engine and an ambulance were photographed onsite and a woman was taken to a local emergency room. It is unknown what injuries were incurred because the City of Albuquerque refuses to release redacted 911 calls to Abortion Free Mexico leader, Tara Shaver. First and second trimester procedures are performed up to 24 weeks (6 months) of pregnancy at this location.

This abortion injury occurred just weeks after New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham launched a Reproductive Health Hotline to connect women with abortion providers throughout the state. Abortion Free New Mexico confirmed through a recorded phone call that this hotline is only referring women to pro-abortion organizations and offers little to no help to women who want to continue their pregnancies.

Spokeswoman, Tara Shaver issued the following statement,

One thing is for sure, the abortion industry is determined to kill children in the womb no matter what harm may come to the women seeking these grisly invasive procedures. It is a shame that women are not told about potential complications and sometimes irreversible damage that can occur at the hands of local abortionists. Abortion is not healthcare, there is no healing involved in an abortion only death, guilt, shame and regret.”

Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers continue to be on the frontlines everyday in front of Albuquerque abortion facilities. They serve as a voice for unborn children who are scheduled to die and as a resource for women who are open to hearing about all of their options. These volunteers see first hand that the New Mexico abortion cartel is actively thwarting opportunities for women to learn about other positive alternatives to abortion. The UNM Center for Reproductive Health has recently installed a gate to prevent sidewalk counselors from interacting with women in a nearby alley and have also modified their scheduling procedures to have all abortion patients enter the abortion center during a one hour time frame each day.

Abortion Free New Mexico is currently serving two women that have chosen life for their babies. Volunteers and your support are needed to reach these women with the love and hope they deserve to continue their pregnancies. The Pro-Life Community Came Through

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Last week, Abortion Free New Mexico asked the pro-life community to help with a last minute donation to help pay rent for a mother who turned away from Southwestern Women’s Options and chose life for her baby. Within 24 hours YOU provided all of the money needed to cover the cost of one months rent. Tara has been in contact with the couple’s landlord, and mailed the rent check which is due to arrive today, July 3rd.

We are grateful to have you partner with us to meet the needs of women who choose life for their babies, yet face uncertain circumstances. This is the beauty of the pro-life movement, the desire to provide vital tangible resources for life’s problems so that moms don’t have to suffer the consequences of abortion. Your giving proves this to be true and also demonstrates that we are a community that loves all women no matter their country of origin or status of citizenship, every life is a beautiful gift worth fighting for.

This couple is so grateful that they offered to place the name of our organization on the father’s boxing uniform, boxing is his passion. We told them that the only name that should be honored is Jesus Christ. It’s a beautiful gesture knowing their situation and that this is the absolute most they have to offer to show their gratitude.

As Abortion Free New Mexico has plans to increase our sidewalk outreach we have decided to start a “Life Fund.” The Life Fund will serve to meet the financial needs of women that we encounter at local abortion centers that choose life. We want to be prepared the next time a woman needs a hand up paying rent, utility bills, childcare and other miscellaneous needs that often make women feel like an abortion is the only answer.

If you would like to give a special gift you may do so by clicking herePlease use the Abortion Free New Mexico Tab and in the comment box type: “Life Fund”.

Currently in New Mexico pro-life groups primarily rely on state programs to provide financial assistance which take time and don’t meet the emergent needs of women at an abortion center door. Sometimes paying a bill is what saves a life and empowers a hopeless woman in crisis and we want to be a resource for them in this way.

Please pray that the Lord gives us more opportunities to speak to and serve women seeking abortions. Pray also for the Lord to open the hearts of the women that they would view their babies as blessings instead of burdens.

    Volunteers are needed Monday-Saturday.

BREAKING: Abortion Emergency At UNM Abortion Center

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On Wednesday, May 31 during the 2 o’clock hour a woman was put into an ambulance outside the University of New Mexico’s free standing abortion facility, the Center for Reproductive Health, for transport to the emergency room. This is the 5th botched abortion at this location that has been documented by Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers in 2023.

The UNM Center for Reproductive Health performs abortions up to 24 weeks of pregnancy and is a Ryan Residency Training Program in Abortion and Family Planning location. This means that the University of New Mexico’s OB-GYN department places a major emphasis on training residents to perform abortions.

According to the Ryan Program website one of the goals is to,

“ensure the availability of abortion care in hospitals and make sure that all obstetrician-gynecologists are skilled to provide abortion care.”

Tara Shaver Spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

“Five abortion related injuries in the first five months of 2023 at the University of New Mexico’s free-standing abortion facility is a grave concern. The pro-life community deeply cares for women seeking abortions, we want to help them find solutions to their crisis pregnancies so that they can choose life for their children. Abortion facilities don’t aim to truly help these women overcome their crisis situation, they simply sell abortions and send them on their way. Until there is accountability and a change in New Mexico’s laws, women will continue to be injured at the hands of abortion profiteers while killing their children in the womb. Abortion Free New Mexico believes that women deserve better than abortion and we are working to build a culture that loves life.”

Abortion Free New Mexico’s, No Sidewalk Without the Savior prayer initiative places volunteers who are on site at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health Abortion Center each weekday and are equipped with life saving resources for pregnant women. New Volunteers are always welcome to join in this effort.

  • “NM abortions on the rise”

    “NM abortions on the rise”

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On March 26, the Albuquerque Journal reached out to us and spoke with Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico to get our perspective about how the overturning of Roe vs. Wade has impacted pro-life efforts in New Mexico.

For years now, New Mexico has been an abortion magnet because of the horrific and barbaric 3rd trimester abortions that have recently halted. However, Abortion Free New Mexico along with other pro-life groups saw the number of abortions steadily decline year after year. It’s no surprise that with Roe overturned and New Mexico’s extreme Democrat legislature, that abortion facilities are on the rise and out of state women traveling to obtain abortions are a daily sight.

Thankfully, the pro-life community has stepped up in many ways to combat this evil that seeks to overtake our state. Abortion Free New Mexico is grateful that the ABQ Journal was willing to extensively capture and report about the heart of our ministry.

Our efforts were highlighted in two articles featured on the front page of the Albuquerque Journal, Sunday edition (3/26/2023).

Pro-life activists Tara and Bud Shaver, founders of Abortion Free New Mexico. (Roberto E. Rosales/Journal)

#1) NM abortions on the rise (excerpt below)

As more abortion patients travel to New Mexico, the number of people holding prayer vigils and protests — carrying signs that offer to adopt a baby or quote Bible verses — to try to dissuade people from entering the clinics has grown, too.

Tara Shaver a self-described “pro-life missionary” who founded Abortion Free New Mexico with her husband, Bud Shaver, said the group used to have about 10 or 15 volunteers. Now, she said, they have about 70 and they have established a program to have people out on the sidewalks more regularly.

“It’s interesting to see how New Mexicans have responded in the wake of Roe v. Wade being overturned,” Shaver said. “Of course it kind of puts a fire under people to realize that there’s so much more that needs to be done on a daily basis.”

The volunteers pray and hold signs if they want to — the Shavers offer one that simply says “Pregnant? We can help” and provides a phone number.

“We really just care for these women, we believe that every woman deserves to know the truth and deserves to know that there are other options, viable options, to abortion,” Shaver said. “Women should never feel pressured or put in a corner that abortion is their only option.”

She pointed out that the rate of abortions in the state had been low in the years before Roe was overturned. Data provided to the Journal from the state Department of Health shows a steady decrease from 3,761 in 2011 to 2,618 in 2021, the most recent year for which complete data was available.

As Shaver and her volunteers started seeing more people with Texas license plates in the parking lots of Albuquerque clinics, they began reaching out to those who provide resources in that state in order to offer “positive alternatives to what could be a very traumatic abortion experience.”

Shaver touts two success stories: women who had come to New Mexico in October and November and ended up changing their minds, giving birth to a girl and boy this year.

“To see them now holding their babies is just a reward in and of itself,” Shaver said. “We’re just really happy for the moms and proud of them because they have something to show for their unplanned pregnancy, so to speak, and their crisis situation.”

#2) New Mexico was once among a handful of states where abortions later in pregnancy were available. That changed in January. (excerpt below)

New Mexico is one of six states plus Washington, D.C., where there are no restrictions on when an abortion can be done during a pregnancy. But the only clinic in the state to provide the procedure after 24 weeks stopped doing so earlier this year.

Among the best known “pro-life missionaries” are Tara and Bud Shaver and their group — now called Abortion Free New Mexico. They moved to New Mexico because of Southwestern Women’s Options.

“Our part whenever we first moved here in 2010 was really to do investigative research and undercover projects and just to kind of paint the picture of what the abortion industry looks like,” Tara Shaver said in an interview last week.

She said they would obtain 911 calls — with personal identifying information redacted — and use them “to show people the kinds of injuries that could occur in an abortion facility.” They have filed complaints to the state Medical Board and succeeded in getting it to launch formal reviews into providers from Southwestern Women’s Options.

Their ranks of volunteers conducting prayer vigils and protests on sidewalks outside of clinics grew after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June, Shaver said. They document when ambulances come and go.

“We really want to make doing abortions in New Mexico as uncomfortable as possible and we want to document the reality of what’s happening in these places,” Shaver said. “The pro-abortion side says that abortion should be safe, legal and rare. But they’re never safe for the unborn child.”

Shaver called Southwestern Women’s Options pause of abortions after 24 weeks a “small victory, certainly, for the third trimester babies” and said she does not believe there should be any exceptions for fetal abnormalities.

“If their baby has a fetal abnormality then we’re going to be there and support them through the whole process,” she said. “If their baby is not going to survive very long outside the womb at least she’s going to have a chance to hold her baby, bond with him or her and have a chance to meet them as opposed to taking their life prematurely, and always wondering what may have been.”

Now is the best time to get more involved. Please consider partnering with us by being on the frontlines, joining our team of volunteers, or by becoming a monthly donor. Women deserve better than abortion and unborn children should have the right to life outside the womb. We have an unprecedented opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community, so we hope you’ll join us!

  • Living Proof: Celebrating New Life

    Living Proof: Celebrating New Life

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- For almost one year now,  Abortion Free New Mexico’s, No Sidewalk Without the Savior, prayer initiative has brought volunteers to the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) abortion center each day to be a living witness for life. We may never know the full impact of our presence but we sometimes have women who come and show us their babies years down the road who kept driving the day of their abortion appointment. However, it is moms that we have the privilege of serving and walking alongside in their journey through pregnancy that we celebrate in this article.

We are proud to announce that two of the Texas women that our volunteers worked with have delivered their babies! Two moms are whole today and full of joy, as they bond with their beautiful babies, and this is our living proof that when we pray and make ourselves available, women are empowered to receive the beautiful blessing of motherhood.

Abortion Free New Mexico will routinely get emails with questions like, “Will anyone be on the sidewalk at the abortion clinic?” “My daughter, granddaughter or friend has an abortion appointment” is usually what follows in the correspondence. When a woman is considering having an abortion it impacts so many people, it’s not just the mother’s “choice.” Fathers, grandparents, siblings and other extended family and friends are often wrought with concern over the life of the child and are equally concerned for the well being of the pregnant mom who is sometimes positioned to drive hundreds of miles for an invasively violent abortion procedure.

Here is Ashley’s story: “Will Someone Be There?”

Ashley’s mom emailed Abortion Free New Mexico the day before her daughter’s abortion was scheduled at the UNMCRH abortion center. She desperately wanted to know if anyone would be on the sidewalk to talk with her daughter who had traveled from the Dallas area to end her first pregnancy. After communicating off and on, Tara was given contact information to reach out and see if Ashley would be willing to meet. Thankfully she was willing and they met at around 9:00pm the night before her scheduled appointment.

Upon meeting, Ashley was visibly sad, emotionally detached and seemed hopeless. Ashley shared that she was not with the baby’s father and that she didn’t think the timing was right at this point in her life to have a child because she wasn’t sure which direction to go in. Tara encouraged her to consider that having this baby could be the very thing that could stabilize her and give her life a purpose. Tara also shared all of the risks and real life stories of women who have been harmed by abortion followed by visual proof of what abortion does to children in the womb. Ashley simply needed someone to hear her story and help her see the possibilities and good that could come from having the child that was already living inside of her.

They departed that evening and shortly thereafter, Ashley told Tara on the phone, that she would be choosing life, getting an ultrasound when she returned home to Texas and that she was going to place the baby for adoption.

Ashley later shared that being told about her baby, the pain he/she would endure and seeing what abortion actualy does to children ultimately made her realize that putting her baby through that would haunt her the rest of her life.

On March 9, 2023 Ashley gave birth to a healthy baby boy and she has decided to co-parent with the baby’s father. She is full of joy and has received so much support from her family. She has accepted the beautiful gift of life, to nurture and cherish, even though she initially thought abortion was the only choice for her.

Here is Faith’s Story: “If you Hadn’t Been There…”

One Tuesday morning a gentleman pulled into the parking lot of the UNMCRH abortion center, his eyes locking with a volunteer standing in prayer. As he pulled around to drop Faith off for her appointment he initially felt defensive, but as he drove away leaving Faith behind he started to feel conviction. He went over and spoke with the prayer volunteers and they encouraged him to be a voice for the little one scheduled to die and to be a support person for Faith.

Faith was too far along to get the abortion that day, although in Texas she was told that she was only 15 weeks pregnant, the UNMCRH told her she was 28 weeks. She ended up with a referral for Southwestern Women’s Options and left the clinic to later meet with Abortion Free New Mexico’s volunteers who encouraged her to choose life and not let her fears take control of her life. Her driver also became an instrumental voice for life and they decided to go back to the El Paso area to continue her pregnancy. On February 4, 2023 she gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl named Maria de Jesus (Mary and Jesus). Faith and the person who drove her that day are so grateful to have this little one in their lives.

Upon reflection, the driver of the vehicle later told volunteers that even though he felt defensive at first seeing them he realizes now that, “If they hadn’t been there and taken the time to speak with me, Faith most likely would have had the abortion.” He also shared that it was a picture of Jesus that caught his eye out of all the signs posted that day by volunteers.

You Are Vital in the Fight for Life

It is the pregnant moms who were brave enough to speak with us and to choose life that prove our prayerful, visible and vigilant presence on the sidewalk is effective. They are the heroes!

Your prayers and support make all of our efforts possible and it is our amazingly faithful volunteers who stand in the gap each day as the last line of defense for these precious unborn children. Thank you to all who make our work possible and to those who are on the sidewalks each day.

  • Urgent: 4th Abortion Injury Of 2023 At UNMCRH

Urgent: 4th Abortion Injury Of 2023 At UNMCRH

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico’s No Sidewalk Without the Savior volunteers documented the 4th abortion complication of 2023 at the University of New Mexico Center for Reproductive Health abortion center today, February 15, 2023. A woman was placed into an ambulance and taken to the emergency room during the lunch hour. This occurred just six days after the last abortion complication that was

recorded by volunteers. The steady rate of abortion injuries at this location raises red flags about who is causing these injuries on unsuspecting women, most of whom are traveling here from out of state. It has been well documented by Abortion Free New Mexico that the University of New Mexico participates in the Ryan Residency Training program whose main emphasis is to,

“ensure the availability of abortion care in hospitals and make sure that all obstetrician-gynecologists are skilled to provide abortion care.”

This training begins in the classroom and then continues at local abortion facilities. Is it the medical students, residents or fellows that are being trained to use women as guinea pigs to learn how to destroy human life that are maiming women in the process or is it the trainers themselves that are inflicting the harm?

Abortion Free New Mexico plans to file complaints with the appropriate authorities in hopes that a thorough investigation will be done and those responsible will be held accountable. It is imperative that our culture recognize that both pregnant mom and baby are patients worthy of protecting.

Abortion Free New Mexico Renews Our Call to Action!

“Abortion Free New Mexico is calling for the immediate closure of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) late-term abortion facility. It’s only February and we have now documented FOUR abortion related injuries at UNMCRH, so far this year! As these abortion complications pile up it’s clear that abortion is not healthcare. Women who enter abortion facilities are healthy and whole, carrying another human life in their womb. Far too often they leave broken physically, emotionally and spiritually because abortion kills their child, violently robbing them of the beautiful gift of life.

As a publicly funded institution, the University of New Mexico has tarnished its reputation and is losing the public trust by performing late-term abortions at the UNM Center of Reproductive Health (UNMCRH). Not only are viable babies being violently dismembered, but unsuspecting women are being injured during these abortion procedures at a staggering rate.

Join us as we call upon the governing leadership at UNM to shut down this dangerous late-term abortion facility,”stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.

Breaking: (VIDEO) Three Women Injured at UNMCRH Abortion Facility

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On February 9, 2023 Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers recorded a woman being placed into an ambulance at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) abortion facility. This is the third abortion related injury that Abortion Free New Mexico has documented since 2023 began. The first abortion related complication occurred on January 13, when a reliable source inside the facility reported that a woman suffered a complication that resulted in some patients having to reschedule their abortion appointments.

A prayer volunteer with Abortion Free New Mexico’s, No Sidewalk Without the Savior Initiative, took the picture below, documenting an abortion injury that occurred on January 31, 2023. Every day of the week volunteers peacefully pray on the public sidewalks surrounding the UNMCRH abortion facility and are prepared to provide abortion seeking women with life affirming resources.

“Abortion Free New Mexico is calling for the immediate closure of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) late-term abortion facility. It’s only February and we have already documented three abortion related injuries at UNMCRH, so far this year!

Not only are viable babies being violently dismembered, but unsuspecting women are being injured during these abortion procedures at a staggering rate.Join us as we call upon the governing leadership at UNM to shut down this dangerous late-term abortion facility,”
stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.

The UNM Center For Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) abortion facility performs late-term abortions up to 6 months (24 weeks) of pregnancy. Therefore, it is most likely that women are suffering abortion complications due to the unnatural and extremely invasive nature of  abortion procedures. First trimester (0-13 weeks) surgical abortions are essentially a blind procedure requiring the abortionist to rely on feeling to remove a pre-born baby from their mother’s womb via violent suction. The second trimester (14-26 weeks) abortion procedure requires artificial dilation of the woman’s cervix due to the fact that the abortionist must use forceps to dismember the baby piece by piece, and can take up to two days to complete.

Some of the potential complications women face obtaining these procedures include retained fetal body parts, uterine rupture or perforation, cervix laceration, infection, heavy hemorrhaging, embolism, abnormal placentation, disseminated intravascular coagulation, seizures and more. All of these complications can be life threatening and cannot be managed in the outpatient setting that UNMCRH is currently operating in.

“I am asking for the immediate closure of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health late-term abortion facility.

Abortion Free New Mexico has already documented EIGHT abortion related injuries at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) abortion facility, since 2022! In fact, on April 10,2024 Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers documented TWO separate women transported to the ER on the same day! As these abortion complications pile up it’s clear that abortion is not healthcare. Women who enter abortion facilities are healthy and whole, carrying another human life in their womb. Taking Saturdays By Storm!

    By Bud Shaver,

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Due to the increasing number of abortion facilities in Albuquerque, the body of Christ must rise to the occasion to pray and minister to women seeking abortions at these new locations. In response to this, Abortion Free New Mexico is expanding our prayer initiative, “No Sidewalk Without the Savior” to include Alamo Women’s abortion clinic every Saturday!

    • Alamo Women’s is only open from 9:00AM-1:00PM on Saturdays. To sign up for a one hour prayer slot, click HERE to sign up online.

Alamo Women’s Clinic is a San Antonio based abortion facility that opened a new location in Albuquerque, New Mexico after Roe vs. Wade was overturned. In Albuquerque, Alamo Women’s abortionist and facility owner, Alan Braid, is performing abortions up to 18 weeks of pregnancy. The majority of their clientele is made up of Texas women and they have a list of over 300 organizations on their website that will help pay for these out of state women’s abortions! Some of these abortion fund organizations will pay for a round trip airplane ticket and/or lodging and gas for a woman to travel out of their home state for an abortion.

“Abortion Free New Mexico cares for every woman seeking an abortion, we sympathize with them in their dire situation and we value their pre-born children who are worthy of life outside the womb. Therefore, we must increase our prayerful presence at these places of death, but we can’t do it alone and that’s why we’re asking for your help to fill the Saturday prayer slots. The abortion bound women traveling here from out of state visually need to see that the people of New Mexico are present for them, are praying for them, and willing to help them. Every woman considering an abortion, no matter how far she has travelled, deserves to know that she has positive alternatives to abortion, stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.”

In addition to Saturday’s at the Alamo Women’s abortion clinic, Abortion Free New Mexico has a vibrant community of volunteers that faithfully pray at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion facility on Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. There are still open hours for those who do have availability during the week to pray.

“No Sidewalk Without The Savior,” is a ministry effort of Abortion Free New Mexico. We believe in the power of prayer to change hearts and minds, as we reflect the love of Jesus by extending grace and truth, at our city’s darkest and most hopeless places, abortion facilities. When two or more of God’s people gather for prayer, Our Savior is present and is able to light up the darkness and bring hope. Will you join us in shining the light of Christ in our city? Just one hour of your time can save a baby’s life.

Take Action to Stop Chemical Abortions- Saturday’s 2PM-3PM at Two Locations: Albuquerque & Rio Rancho

    (February 4th CVS Protest, Albuquerque)

    WHY PROTEST?

Walgreens and CVS pharmacies are now dispensing the chemical abortion drug- Mifepristone. Mifepristone is the first of the two pills used in a chemical abortion. The drug works by cutting off nutrients necessary for a fetus to continue developing. The second drug, misoprostol, is taken 24 to 48 hours later and induces contractions that expel the dead unborn child.

  • BREAKING: New Mexico No Longer Late-Term Abortion Capital

BREAKING: New Mexico No Longer Late-Term Abortion Capital

    By Bud Shaver,

    Albuquerque, New Mexico-
Abortion Free New Mexico has confirmed that the notorious Southwestern Women’s Options abortion facility is no longer performing third trimester abortions. Citing staff shortages and overwhelming clientele from out of state, they are now referring to other abortion facilities in Colorado, Maryland and Washington D.C.

Southwestern Women’s Options is the abortion facility where the late Carmen Landau specialized in providing third trimester abortions. Her sudden death is presumably in part the reason for this abrupt change.

Southwestern Women’s Options is, however, still offering abortion pills in clinic, and by mail, as well as first and second trimester abortions through 23.6 weeks of pregnancy. This means that Albuquerque currently has two abortion facilities that offer abortions up to six months of pregnancy, Southwestern Women’s Options and the University of New Mexico Center for Reproductive Health.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

Since 2010 Abortion Free New Mexico has worked to see the day when Curtis Boyd and Southwestern Women’s Options would no longer give New Mexico the reputation of being the late-term abortion capital of the nation. After years of public exposure, relentless pressure and lots of prayer, t

hat day has finally come. This is a small victory, especially for third trimester babies, that Southwestern Women’s Options is no longer equipped to kill. Every abortion is a tragedy because it takes a human life but late-term abortions are particularly disturbing because they are performed on viable babies in the latest stages of pregnancy. We hope and pray that this is just the beginning of the end of all abortions in our state and we will keep fighting to be a voice for unborn children and to help women choose life with compassionate life affirming resources.”

The Governor Wants to Use Your Tax Money to Build an Abortion Clinic

In her State of the State speechGovernor Michelle Lujan Grisham stated she wants to use $10 million of taxpayer dollars to build an abortion clinic in southern New Mexico. This facility would allow abortions in any term of pregnancy, even abortions up to birth!

In light of abortion restrictions in neighboring states, the proposed clinic is already being touted as a potential magnet for those seeking abortions from other states. Do we really need to be paying for abortions for people from other states?

New Mexico currently has 2 communities that don’t even have an OBGYN! The money could be used there for real healthcare for these women. We need every New Mexican who cherishes life to speak out boldly against this proposal.

NM Attorney General Sues Sanctuary Cities and Counties

On January 23rd, KOAT Action 7 News reported that New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez filed an emergency petition with the New Mexico Supreme Court to “push back” and essentially sue the Board of County Commissioners for Lea and Roosevelt Counties as well as the City of Clovis and Hobbs for the ordinances they have put into law to protect their cities from the grisly abortion industry.

Torrez is quoted as stating that,

“This, ladies and gentlemen, is not Texas. In this state, a woman’s right to choose is guaranteed by the New Mexico Constitution.”

New Mexico is not Texas, but New Mexicans could certainly learn from Texas’ actions to make abortion illegal since every abortion kills a human being.

It’s important to note that counties and cities independently have the authority to decide whether or not to permit the sale of alcohol and whether to restrict the sale of cannabis – both, ostensibly for health reasons, so why should they not be permitted to restrict the taking of a human life within their jurisdictions? Will the New Mexico Supreme Court recognize their authority to protect unborn childrens lives?

These localities will ultimately have the opportunity to appeal the AG’s actions and Abortion Free New Mexico stands with these leaders to be able to protect their citizens, born and unborn.

    • Ambulance Transports Injured Woman From UNM Abortion Facility

Ambulance Transports Injured Woman From UNM Abortion Facility

      By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico– On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, a prayer volunteer with Abortion Free New Mexico witnessed a woman being transported by ambulance from the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) abortion facility right before the lunch hour. This medical emergency occurred the day after New Mexicans largely elected 100% pro-abortion candidates in the general election across the state. It is unknown what the status of the woman’s injuries are but it is known that UNM abortion center performs late-term abortions up to 24 weeks (6 months) of pregnancy.

Abortion is not normal, is not safe, is not essential health care. Providing this barbaric act should be criminalized,” stated Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico.

Abortion Free New Mexico has documented numerous abortion injuries over the years at the UNM abortion facility in an attempt to bring awareness to the dangers of the unregulated abortion industry in New Mexico. Since abortions are blind procedures and a woman’s uterus is thinned out to make room for a baby, abortion instruments can perforate the uterus or even the cervix. Sometimes during second trimester abortions when the abortionist is reaching in and pulling out the baby in pieces, a woman’s bodily organs can also be extracted which requires emergency surgery.

The condition of the woman injured at UNMCRH on November 9, 2022 remains unknown at this time.

Abortion Free New Mexico will file a medical board complaint based on this incident and an investigation will be requested to see if negligence was the cause of this emergency transport. Abortion Free New Mexico will also seek to obtain the 911 call that summoned the ambulance to the facility. Unfortunately, the city of Albuquerque has a long history of denying these public records and we are considering legal action in the near future.

      Tara Shaver continued,

It is unfortunate that New Mexicans continue to elect candidates who turn a blind eye to the fact that abortion harms women and kills innocent children in the womb. Every life should be cherished and women deserve to know about the alternatives to abortion that won’t land them in the hospital with potential life threatening injuries. We pray for the people of this state, that they will one day reject the narrative that abortion is healthcare because it clearly is not. Abortion needs to be called out for what it is, the brutal dismemberment of children, and should be rejected by all.”

    • Mom Chooses Life After 600 Mile Journey

Mom Chooses Life After 600 Mile Journey

      By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico– The day before Albuquerque’s annual Balloon Fiesta began, Abortion Free New Mexico was blessed with the opportunity to help a pregnant mom choose life for her baby. It all began with an email from the pregnant mom’s mother, living in Texas, who was trying to find out if there would be any sidewalk counselors at the UNM abortion center to intercept her daughter.

She searched online for, “sidewalk counselors in Albuquerque” and our contact information came up. Her daughter had made the decision to travel over 600 miles from Texas to New Mexico to have an abortion procedure that could put her physical life at risk as well as her future fertility, emotional wellbeing and a potential lifetime of other consequences.

Over the course of that day Tara corresponded with her mom to try and assess the situation. The prospect of one family member planning to get an abortion was enough to disrupt the whole family unit. There was so much concern for the pregnant mom from within the family which ended up being a blessing due to the fact that it ultimately allowed us a chance to speak with her before she arrived at the abortion center.

On the night before her scheduled appointment, Tara was able to go and meet with the pregnant mom and her father who had driven her here. It was evident by body language and her lack of emotion that she was not feeling like an empowered woman. She looked sad and she said that she was sad multiple times. What she needed was someone to listen to her and to really hear how she was feeling about the situation and for someone to help her work through her fears.

During the conversation Tara was able to share with her what the abortion industry never wants a pregnant mom to hear, the truth that when you are pregnant you are a mother. Also, that having an abortion comes with a wide range of consequences. Some women who abort their first child are never able to get pregnant again, some women suffer guilt, shame and regret that leads to unhealthy and dangerous behaviors like drug addiction and suicide.

Tara shared with her that she is worth more than an abortion that can’t solve any of the problems or concerns she is facing, but that we are here to support her and to let her know all of the other options available to her. Tara also explained and showed her the actual abortion procedure, let her hold a fetal model the approximate size of her own baby and assured her that she has time to figure out what is best for her and the baby.

Pregnant moms in a panic rarely stop to consider that their pregnancy is temporary, it will end naturally in nine months and until that time they can plan and consider what they really want to do whether it be to parent or place the child in an open or closed adoption situation. Oftentimes there are even family members willing to care for and adopt the baby. Every life affirming option was given as well as assurances that what the future holds is unknown but that this baby could help her find purpose in her life.

After parting ways Tara reached out to her to schedule an ultrasound for the next day, at that point the pregnant mom told Tara that she wanted to cancel her abortion appointment and pursue placing the baby for adoption.

Instead of having an abortion she and her father spent the day together taking in the culture and sights of New Mexico. One night before they returned to Texas, one of our volunteers offered to take us all out to dinner. If was a great opportunity connect on a more personal level and her transformation from the previous night was amazing to see. She was smiling and it was as if the weight of the world was lifted off of her. She had been carrying such a heavy burden so determined to have the abortion, but her decision to choose life had set her and her unborn child free!

Her father texted Tara shortly after arriving back in Texas stating how thankful he was that we met with them and shared so much information with his daughter in crisis.

Tara asked him an important question as we seek to understand how to help women in urgent crisis situations surrounding their decision to have an abortion or not,

What was it that had helped her change her mind and choose life?”

He responded that it was a combination of everyones support, seeing the abortion procedure, holding the fetal model and simply being listened to.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement:

“We are completely humbled by the opportunity to help a mom choose life for her unborn child.

Sometimes life throws curveballs and sometimes women just don’t feel ready to be a mother but that never means that the child in the womb should be eliminated. The pro-life community is armed with resources, tangible help as well as overwhelming love and support. The abortion industry lacks all of these things because what they are offering is a bandaid for real life situations that deserve our time and attention. We are grateful that this new mom has such a supportive family that will be there for her throughout this whole process.

Women are truly empowered by choosing life even in difficult circumstances and we witnessed this firsthand.

We greatly appreciate the prayers of our volunteers which we know played a vital part in softening this this mom’s heart.

Every life is a beautiful gift.”

Battles Are Not Won From The Sidelines!

      By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico believes in the power of prayer to change hearts, minds and to transform our culture! This is why we launched No Sidewalk Without the Savior in April of this year. Our goal is to have an unbroken chain of public prayer, on location, every hour that the UNM late-term abortion facility is open.

This is the most basic thing we as the pro-life community can do. We get to pray at our cities most darkest location and make ourselves visible to our community and available for women seeking abortions.

“Now more than ever, we need to pray collectively, publicly, and strategically. Our presence has the ability to reform The University of New Mexico – UNM so that they get out of the abortion business!” Bud Shaver, Abortion Free New Mexico

It is now more important than ever to get involved.

Abortion Free New Mexico invites YOU to sign up for the month of August and to pray for one hour a week. Our volunteers have shared with us what the Lord is doing in and through them during this time of prayer. Some have shared that they are full of so much joy while standing for such a worthy cause.

      Our Mission Continues

      By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico- In 2006 we made a commitment to the Lord to work to end abortion until Roe v. Wade was overturned or until the Lord called us home with Him. We NEVER imagined that our commitment would be fulfilled in 2022! Even though the end to Roe v. Wade has become a reality, our work to end abortion continues in New Mexico! While many lives will be saved throughout this nation and the healing of our land can begin, our work now is all the more significant.

We humbly ask for your fervent prayers for wisdom, strategy, guidance, provision and protection as we continue to be in the thick of the battle for LIFE here in New Mexico. Praise the Lord, that though we are currently experiencing an oppressive government and wickedness abounds, our God shows His power.

He truly is sovereign and able to do more than we can ask or imagine. THANK YOU for standing with us as New Mexico’s pro-life missionary family.

      IN THE NEWS:

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico was featured, the Sunday after Roe was overturned, in an article on  the front page of the LA Times, highlighting how New Mexico is ground zero and how we need to support pregnant women in a post Roe America.

      Here is an excerpt:

“While abortion advocates consider the coalition a sort of underground railroad for women in crisis, those who oppose the work — such as Tara Shaver, a local antiabortion advocate — say the system affirms Albuquerque’s reputation as the ‘late-term abortion capital of the world.’

On a recent afternoon, Shaver pulled her minivan up to a cemetery plot, called Baby Land, for infants and fetal remains she’d helped arrange with a priest. ‘Naomi Scarlette,’ one of the fetal grave plaques read. ‘June 1, 2017. Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.

”The term ‘abortion’ has lost all meaning, and this place brings it back,’ Shaver said.’We don’t need to shuttle women into New Mexico. We need to meet these women where they are and provide enough support that they don’t need to choose between their child’s life and their own.’Shaver organized a schedule with other Christians to ensure that at least one person is praying during every operational hour of local abortion clinics.”

Thank you for your continued prayers, support and for standing with us in this battle for LIFE.

Albuquerque, New Mexico-Thank you for your continued prayers and support. Our family is humbled to serve the Lord in New Mexico as pro-life missionaries and to be the voice for the children the Lord loves so much. We couldn’t do this important life saving ministry without you! This month we have continued to light up the darkness with our prayer campaign outside the UNM abortion center, every day at least one person is present but we need more people to sign up for one hour.

We also called for accountability of our elected officials at the city level when two republicans voted to make sure that Planned Parenthood of New Mexico receives $250,000 of our tax dollars. If these republicans had voted against this funding it would have been blocked.

TAKE ACTION: Abortion Free New Mexico urges you to contact councilors Brook Bassan and Trudy Jones to express your disapproval of their actions and to urge them to resign immediately.

      • Click here to contact them.

This is a prime example why the pro-life pledge we are asking candidates to sign is so vital. So far we have 30 candidates from across the state who have pledged to defend life from conception to natural death. Thanks for standing with us and together we are building a culture that loves life.

      IN THE NEWS THIS MONTH:

“Tara Shaver with Abortion Free New Mexico spoke with American Family News about the quarter-million dollars given to the local abortion provider. According to Shaver, the city of Albuquerque is already facing many crisis situations financially, so she finds it ‘completely absurd’ to reward a non-essential business. The official minutes from the May 16 meeting indicate the city took a half-million dollars from ‘affordable housing’ and gave half of that to Planned Parenthood to free up more of the abortion company’s budget for abortions.”

As Ward 29 Chairman, Bud would like to thank everyone who came to our first ward meeting at Lava Rock Brewing Company. We had an amazing turnout with about 60 people present. There is great potential to flip this district and take New Mexico back from the liberal Democrats.

Abortion Free New Mexico wrapped up another successful month of prayer with our No Sidewalk Without the Savior Campaign. We have our amazing team of volunteers to thank for making sure that each day people were present and praying for an end to abortion at the University of New Mexico. One of our volunteers shared this testimony,

“I need to tell you what happened yesterday when praying at the clinic with Tom. A young lady walked all the way up the hill, started with ‘I am a Christian’ and told us she has 3 kids and just found out she is pregnant. She is barely making it now and is concerned about another baby. Her name is Samantha. Does not want an abortion but… Did not say she is married. We were struck with her concern for the future. We panicked to some extent. It is easy to pray “shut down this clinic” but tough to help someone going thru a real challenge. We prayed with her and gave her one of the resource packets.”

This story demonstrates the importance of being present at the places where women seeking abortions are.

If our team had not been there, this woman wouldn’t have local resources to pursue and she most likely wouldn’t have reached out for prayer because of the shame and stigma that is inevitable for women considering an abortion. It is a blessing to know that when the body of Christ is present opportunities arise and we can be the light in this dark world.

Here’s another sidewalk testimony confirming how Abortion Free New Mexico’s prayerful presence is making a difference:

From a Tuesday Volunteer: “A gentleman pulled up to the stop sign and called out to us telling us that he was not going to abort his baby, that he was going to keep his baby. He then did the sign of the cross and seemed so full of joy.”

Join us tomorrow for Faith To Action Friday as we collectively come together to put our faith into action outside the UNM abortion center.

This month, Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico joined Owen Shroyer on the Infowars War Room to discuss how Late (Third Trimester) Full-Term abortions are not a conspiracy theory but a tragic reality. New Mexico is the proof. She also pointed out that in light of Roe v Wade being overturned that  New Mexico will continue to be ground zero for all abortions and abortion tourism.

“Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico has been fighting abortions in America for years, she is now attempting to end abortion in New Mexico. UNM Committed To Expand Abortion Services In New Mexico with Assistance from the Federal Government

      By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, New Mexico- On Thursday May 26, 2022 transgender Assistant U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary “Rachel” Levine toured the UNM Center for Reproductive Health free-standing abortion facility and pledged that the Biden Administration was committed to expanding abortion services in New Mexico in light of the leaked Supreme Court memo revealing the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade.

This visit came just nine days after Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico appeared on the Infowars War Room with Owen Shroyer detailing how New Mexico is currently the late term abortion capital of our nation and is poised to be, “ground zero for abortion period” once Roe v. Wade is overturned.

All-American Women Give Life To Their Children from Abortion Free New Mexico on Vimeo.

Levine, the Biden Administration representative, spoke to KOB 4 news and revealed the federal government’s radical abortion expansion agenda:

“It is absolutely critical for New Mexico to continue to allow the full range of reproductive health services that women need, including abortion services,” Levine said.

UNM officials told KOB 4 they’re committed to taking on extra patients.

“If the decision follows the outline of the draft, then it’s going to severely impact women’s reproductive health rights and the ability to receive the full range of services in many states,” Levine said. “To be able to provide those services for women in New Mexico, and for many other states, they need to look to expand those services. We’ll work to support them.”

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

“While many Americans oppose the use of federal funds to pay for abortions, and this is prohibited by the Hyde Amendment, it is egregious that the Biden administration has plans to work with the University of New Mexico to prop up the collapsing abortion industry and to utilize federal assistance to fund abortion tourism. These actions will only serve to further the culture of death in our state and the devaluing of human life in the womb.

Just as the federal government is desperately working to enable the University of New Mexico to expand abortion in our state, Abortion Free New Mexico is equally committed to meet the real needs of women in our community. Every day volunteers prayerfully position themselves outside the University of New Mexico abortion center and are prepared to let women know that there is hope and an abundance of pregnancy resources available to them.”

Abortion Free New Mexico is on the Front Lines

The pro-life community has an amazing opportunity to grow together as a powerful life saving force. Abortion Free New Mexico’s daily prayer campaign, No Sidewalk Without the Savior, is a practical way to bring the body of Christ onto the sidewalks in front of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion facility.

Here are a few glimpses of how Abortion Free New Mexico’s prayerful presence is making a difference:

      • From a Tuesday Volunteer: “A gentleman pulled up to the stop sign and called out to us telling us that he was not going to abort his baby, that he was going to keep his baby. He then did the sign of the cross and seemed so full of joy.
      • From a Thursday Volunteer: “We spoke with a gentleman about the Roe vs. Wade decision that so many are thinking and talking about right now. He seemed like maybe he was from another country but was very open to learn about the implications of this ruling. I know we gave him food for thought.
      • Dinah Vargas and Tara Shaver encountered a woman who was leaving the nearby motel. In a divine appointment she disclosed that she is pregnant, living in hotels and in desperate need of housing. We were able to give her resources and are keeping in touch with her to make sure she gets all of the help and support she needs. Please pray for the moms with housing needs as it can be a very long drawn out process for them.

    • UPDATE: New Mexico Facility And UNM Settled Wrongful Abortion Death Suit For Total Of $1.26 Million

UPDATE: New Mexico Facility And UNM Settled Wrongful Abortion Death Suit For Total Of $1.26 Million

Operation Rescue assisted Abortion Free New Mexico with the initial investigation and exposure of this tragedy.

By Cheryl Sullenger, (Republished with the permission of Operation Rescue)

Albuquerque, NM – Southwestern Women’s Options, a full-term abortion facility located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has settled a major medical malpractice/wrongful death suit for $900,000.  According to the Albuquerque Journal, the settlement agreement was reached with the abortion facility last fall.

“Southwestern Women’s Option clinic, in settling its part of the lawsuit, sought a confidentiality provision to bar the parties from discussing the settlement. They are specifically not permitted to disparage the clinic or its doctors, according to the settlement agreement, which was filed as an exhibit in the lawsuit,” the newspaper reported.

Last month, the University of New Mexico agreed to pay the family of Keisha Atkins $365,000 to settle their part of the lawsuit that alleged UNM negligently referred Atkins to Southwestern Women’s Options where Atkins received a fatal multi-day abortion.  That settlement resulted in a full dismissal of the wrongful death suit in April.

That brings the total payout to Atkins’ mother, Tina Atkins, and her sister, Nichole, to over $1.26 million.

Southwestern Women’s Options’ owner, Curtis Boyd, reached the settlement during mediation in relation to allegations that “its subsequent treatment of Atkins fell below the standard of care and was negligent,” according to the Albuquerque Journal.

Atkins was 23 years old and six months pregnant when she sought an abortion at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health early 2017. That abortion facility determined that Atkins was too far along for a procedure there, so she was referred to Southwestern Women’s Options, which is one of the few abortion facilities in the U.S. that openly conducts abortions through all trimesters of pregnancy.

Once at SWO, Atkins underwent a multi-day late-term abortion. Before the process could be completed, Atkins was taken to UNM Medical Center where she died on February 4, 2017.

The Albuquerque Journal reported that Tina Atkins described during a deposition meeting her daughter in the hospital that fateful day when Keisha was still alive and talking.

Keisha was combative, and ‘a little bit delirious,’ Atkins said. But she could still talk. “The first thing that came out of her mouth was, ‘Mom, I’m going to die.’”

An autopsy was done at the University of New Mexico that listed Atkins’ cause of death as “Pulmonary Thromboembolism due to Pregnancy.”

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico, who was initially tipped to Atkins’ death, was among the first to receive a copy of the autopsy report. Suspicious that the cause of death blamed Atkins pregnancy instead of the abortion, Shaver asked Operation Rescue to review the autopsy results.

Operation Rescue’s staff, which is experienced in analyzing autopsy reports, found that the listed cause of death was untrue, and suspected that UNM was attempting to cover up the liability of UNM and SWO in Atkins’ death.

Operation Rescue discovered that the autopsy report itself noted that Atkins developed an infection during the multi-day abortion that turned septic. As a complication of the septicemia, she developed a clotting disorder. It was a blood clot found in her lung caused by the abortion process that eventually took her life – not her pregnancy.

At the time, Curtis Boyd commented in the Albuquerque Journal attacking Operation Rescue’s discovery:

For those who oppose women’s reproductive justice to exploit this sad event by putting forward lies about abortion and the patient’s care is sickening. We trust the citizens of New Mexico to be compassionate and understanding of the needs of women and to see through this inflammatory attack on women’s reproductive rights and on us.”

In the end, the settlements vindicated Operation Rescue’s findings and proved that it was Boyd who was lying to cover up his clinic’s negligence in Atkins’ death.

We are glad that the Keisha Atkins wrongful death case is now closed and that her family will receive a large settlement. I know that no amount of money will compensate them for the death of their loved one, but I pray it will bring closure to the family,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

“These agreements confirm a fatal level of negligence that wrongly cost a woman her life. Southwestern Women’s Options and the UNM Center for Reproductive Choice should be closed by the state to protect the public from any continued negligence.  Given the leftist nature of the current state government, I know that seems unlikely, but it was also unlikely that anyone would ever discover the truth about Atkins’ death that UNM’s autopsy tried to cover up. Yet we did uncover that truth, which eventually led to this $1.26 million payout, so anything is possible,” Newman concluded.

The case was handled by Abortion on Trial. More information about this case is available on their website.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement:

“Abortion Free New Mexico is thankful for the collaboration with Operation Rescue who assisted us with the initial investigation and exposure of this tragedy. Our hope is that the family of Keisha Atkins can find closure and peace and that her death will help serve to deter other women from choosing abortion. This $1.26 million dollar settlement should set a precedent that late-term abortions pose serious life threatening risks to women and that UNM should refrain from their participation in referring and providing abortion services. New Mexico tax dollars are funding these risky procedures through medicaid and now the tax payers are footing the bill for the abortion deaths of women.

      When will this insanity end?

Abortion Free New Mexico continues to be on the front lines ministering to vulnerable women targeted by the New Mexico abortion cartel, and also works tirelessly researching, investigating, and ultimately exposing the tragic consequences of an unregulated up to the day of birth abortion industry that is totally out of control in our state.”

    • BREAKING: UNM Must Pay Settlement After Woman is Killed in Botched 6-Month Abortion

BREAKING: UNM Must Pay Settlement After Woman is Killed in Botched 6-Month Abortion

By Micaiah Bilger, (This article originally appeared on LifeNews.com)

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Lawyers for the late Keisha Atkins, who died along with her unborn baby after a late-term abortion in New Mexico, achieved a victory this spring when the University of New Mexico agreed to pay a settlement in the case.

The pro-life organization Abortion on Trial said the university paid Atkins’ estate $365,000 after the UNM hospital was accused of negligently referring her to a late-term abortion facility that led to her death.

UNM should have never referred Keisha to Curtis Boyd’s outpatient abortion facility, Southwestern Women’s Options,” said Jamie Jeffries, executive director at Abortion On Trial. “It is unacceptable medical care to perform an induction abortion outside of a hospital. Practitioners everywhere should be aware that referring women to private abortion clinics can result in legal action and subsequent liability.”

In 2017, Atkins, 23, died shortly after her unborn baby was aborted at Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque; she was six months pregnant. Her lawyers said she died of sepsis after the abortion facility gave her “inconsistent and dangerously addictive drugs for days” and delayed transporting her to a hospital.

Abortionists Carmen Landau, Curtis Boyd and Shannon Carr also were sued for negligence in Atkins’ death.

Click here to sign up for pro-life news alerts from LifeNews.com

Jeffries said Atkins’ elective, late-term abortion was paid for by New Mexico taxpayers through Medicaid, and the settlement also will be paid for by taxpayers because the University of New Mexico is a public institution.

Attorney Mike Seibel with Abortion on Trial said they donated part of their attorneys’ fees from the settlement to help other mothers and babies in need.

Of the attorneys’ fees generated from the UNM $365000 settlement, I donated a good amount to pregnancy centers, sidewalk advocates, pro-life candidates and pro-life causes,” Seibel told the Pinon Post. “The money man intended to use for evil God turned to good. It’s time to win this battle.”

The case has prompted calls for state lawmakers to enact new safety regulations for abortion facilities. New Mexico has almost no regulations or restrictions on abortion. It does not require women to be informed of abortion risks or alternatives before an abortion, and it allows unborn babies to be aborted for any reason up to birth.

“The New Mexico Legislature has chosen many times to ignore the safety of the mother during a late term abortion,” state Rep. Rebecca Dow, R-Grant, said in a statement provided to LifeNews. “While I believe there are many alternatives to abortion, the simple truth is that a woman who opts to receive an abortion should receive the same information of the risks of the procedure that is afforded in every other medical environment.”

Atkins’ mother, Tina, and sister, Nicole, filed the wrongful death lawsuit on her behalf.

According to KOB News 4, Atkins went to the abortion facility Feb. 1, 2017, where her unborn baby was aborted. She was about six months pregnant.

Two days later, according to the lawsuit, she went back to the abortion facility complaining of breathing trouble and a high fever. After 10 hours, the abortion facility called for an ambulance to take Atkins to the hospital, and she died there a short time later, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit accused the University of New Mexico Hospital and Southwestern Women’s Options of medical malpractice, wrongful death and civil conspiracy in the lawsuit.

The late-term abortion facility also allegedly violated the New Mexico Unfair Trade Practices Act by telling Atkins not to go to the emergency room but to contact the abortion facility if she experienced a medical emergency.

Operation Rescue and Abortion Free New Mexico also suspected a cover-up. The groups obtained Atkins’ autopsy report along with a CAD printout of a 911 call from the abortion facility on the date of Atkins’ death. The groups said both documents raised serious questions about the mishandling of Atkins’ medical emergency, and aroused suspicions of an attempted cover-up involving the hospital, with which lead abortionist Curtis Boyd is connected.

This facility performs late term abortions up to 24 weeks (6 months) of pregnancy.

The Spanish speaking “Isleta Church of Christ: Iglesia De Cristo” is the closest church (0.5 mile) from the UNM Center for Reproductive Health late-term abortion facility. After reaching out to, fellowshipping with and sharing a presentation with them about abortion in New Mexico and this new prayer initiative, “No Sidewalk Without the Savior” they enthusiastically agreed to allow us to meet on their property.

Since April 1st is the launch date for this new initiative and it coincides with Faith to Action Friday we will gather first at Isleta Church of Christ for collective prayer & speakers, then we will take a short prayer walk together to the UNMCRH abortion facility.

“No Sidewalk Without the Savior” is an effort to make sure that two people are prayerfully present outside of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion facility every hour that they are open, because where two or three gather in the name of Jesus, He is present in their midst. When the body of Christ is present and availible,  God is able to open hearts and minds to the reality of what is happening in our community and to also bring conviction to the women seeking abortions there.

Abortion Free New Mexico is asking the pro-life community to come together and volunteer for just a one-hour weekly or monthly commitment at a location where the hope of Christ is so desperately needed. Will you join us to make sure that Jesus Christ is brought the sidewalk at one of Albuquerque’s darkest places?

(VIDEO) COHORTS OF DEATH: UNDERCOVER AT 37 WEEKS EXPOSES UNM LATE TERM ABORTION COLLUSION

Abortion Free New Mexico introduces Part 5 of a 6 Part Series exposing the New Mexico Abortion Cartel

By Bud Shaver, Abortion Free New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM– This is the latest installment documenting the abortion landscape in New Mexico and a continuation of Abortion Free New Mexico’s exposure of the radical abortion agenda at the University of New Mexico.

(VIDEO) WATCH THE LATEST SHOCKING REVELATION: COHORTS OF DEATH: UNDERCOVER AT 37 WEEKS EXPOSES UNM LATE TERM ABORTION COLLUSION

In Abortion Free New Mexico’s latest undercover project that has taken viewers inside the notorious Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO) late term abortion facility, the investigation has also uncovered that the University of New Mexico (UNM), a publicly funded institution, is willing to collude with late term abortionists to deliver dead babies at UNM Hospital once a deadly injection is administered by abortionists at SWO.

The price tag of a late term abortion at Southwestern Women’s Options is a staggering $17,000, but in a SHOCKING revelation, SWO employee Susana Estorga, states that for $5,000 they would be willing to offer the fetal injection ALONE and then send the woman away to deliver the baby 2-3 days later elsewhere.

      • The fetal injection administered by SWO abortionists kills the baby in the womb by slowly stopping their heart over 4-6 grueling hours.

If a woman opts to obtain the fetal injection at Southwestern Women’s Options, SWO has an expectation that other OB-GYN’s will oversee the completion of the labor and delivery of the stillborn child. However, most OB-GYN’s will not participate in abortions, especially at religious hospitals, like Presbyterian in Albuquerque, so SWO is apparently relying upon the University of New Mexico’s entrenched abortion agenda and utilizes an arrangement to ensure that “injection only” patients can labor and deliver their dead babies at UNM Hospital.

In an undercover phone call placed to the Women’s and Children’s Health Care Clinic at UNM Hospital, Tara Shaver with Abortion Free New Mexico also confirmed the fact that, Lily Bayat a UNM Fellow at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center would deliver the dead baby at UNM Hospital after Southwestern Women’s Options administered the lethal injection.

Lily Bayat holds positions at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences center in the Divisions of Family Planning and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynocology. In addition, Bayat receives an annual salary by the University New Mexico of $57,747 as a, “Visiting Instructor”.

(Second year Fellow- UNM Abortionist Lily  Bayat, MD)

“Abortion Free New Mexico has exposed just how deep the collusion is between the University of New Mexico and Southwestern Women’s Options to ensure that late term abortions continue up to the day of birth. Hospitals are meant to be places where the sick go for healing, but the abortion industry is utilizing them for their own sordid death agenda.” Tara Shaver, Spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico.

      GLARING CONTRADICTIONS

The Albuquerque Journal published an article on December 20, 2015 titled, UNMHSC halts training at private abortion clinic in it the ABQ Journal reported that, “UNMHSC officials said last week that they will no longer send medical fellows or residents to Boyd’s clinic, which is located in Downtown Albuquerque.”

However, UNM’s website contradicts that report and still clearly states, as of publishing time of this article, October 31, 2017…

“Fellows are trained in abortion and contraception care, using evidence-based medical and surgical methods. Training occurs primarily at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health, the Albuquerque Planned Parenthood Surgical Center, and Southwestern Women’s Options (Dr. Curtis Boyd). Later second and third trimester abortions are performed at UNM Hospital and at SWO.”

In addition, Southwestern Women’s Options is currently listed as a UNM Clinical Training Site.

Despite these glaring contradictions that show a continued relationship between UNM and SWO, Abortion Free New Mexico has conclusively confirmed that a current Fellow at the University of New Mexico, Lily Bayak, is willing to work with Southwestern Women’s Options patients to complete a late term abortion at UNM Hospital once the fetal injection is administered to kill the pre-born baby.

Abortion Free New Mexico’s Tara Shaver, uncovered the collusion via the Ryan Residency Training Program initiated by the University of New Mexico between Planned Parenthood of New Mexico, and Southwestern Women’s Options to train UNM residents to perform abortions in the first, second, and even third trimesters in 2011 with her first installment: Exposé: Tax Funded Abortion Training and the Betrayal of True Medicine at UNM.

Fr. Stephen Imbarrato: The Protest Priest with Priests for Life issued the following statement,

“The collaboration between Southwestern Women’s Options, UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion facility, and UNM Hospital shows that UNMHSC headed by Dr Paul Roth is the heart of the New Mexico Abortion Industry.

As a taxpayer, I am appalled that tax money pays for this unnecessary bloodshed! What is worse is the knowledge that Dr. Paul Roth’s right hand man, Ryan Cangiolosi is the head of the New Mexico Republican Party! This is the “statewide conspiracy of complacency and complicity” that we have been speaking about for a decade now!”

ACTION ITEM: Abortion Free New Mexico is asking that you contact the University of New Mexico Regents and respectfully ask them to STOP ALLOWING ABORTIONISTS AT UNM HOSPITAL TO PROMOTE AND PERFORM LATE TERM ABORTIONS AT THE EXPENSE OF NEW MEXICO TAX DOLLARS. In addition, respectfully ask them to PERMENANTLY cut all ties with Planned Parenthood of New Mexico and Southwestern Women’s Options.

Part 1: Abortion Landscape Shift in New Mexico Since 2010

Abortion Free New Mexico introduces Part 1 of a 6 Part Series exposing the NM Abortion Cartel

      By Bud Shaver

Albuquerque, NM- In 2010 when we were invited to New Mexico as pro-life missionaries by Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, the abortion landscape was a lot different than what it is today. The three of us in conjunction with Operation Rescue quickly coined the title “Late Term Abortion Capital” to describe Albuquerque and designated New Mexico as the “Abortion Capital of the Southwest.”  An article in the Albuquerque Journal quoted radical pro-abortion activists who, “[Ranked] New Mexico No. 1 in the nation for providing equal access to sexual and reproductive health services.” We, however, were determined to push back against the New Mexico abortion cartel that was eager to expand it’s killing business even deeper into New Mexico.

At that time Albuquerque was home to four surgical abortion killing centers. Santa Fe was home to two abortion facilities one of which performed surgical abortions and Southern New Mexico was home to Santa Teresa based abortionist Franz Theard.

Due to New Mexico’s lack of common sense abortion restrictions, notorious late term abortionist Curtis Boyd, who owns Southwestern Women’s Options, had effectively expanded his child killing empire into New Mexico and abortionist Franz Theard had expanded his abortion business across the border into New Mexico to evade Texas abortion laws. The University of New Mexico, which we have since identified as, “The Heart of the New Mexico Abortion Cartel” was aggressively expanding its radical abortion agenda and Whole Woman’s Health opened and set up shop in Las Cruces, NM in 2014.

In no time at all we began to put the pieces together and uncovered the corruption that has permeated the state and kept abortion unrestricted for so long. We outed abortionists and made sure everyone knew who is willing to kill pre-born children for a profit. We began to expose horrific abortion injuries at Southwestern Women’s Options late term abortion center and at the University of New Mexico. As a result we saw the  New Mexico Medical board hold a disciplinary hearing against late term abortionist Shelley Sella for a botched 35 week abortion. The layers of the cartel began to peel away so that we could see things more clearly.

Since 2010 three abortion centers have closed!

Now only five abortion centers remain in the state and Albuquerque alone is home to the state’s three last remaining surgical abortion killing centers.

      1. Planned Parenthood (Albuquerque, NM)- Offering surgical abortions through 19 weeks gestation.
      2. UNM Center for Reproductive Health (Albuquerque, NM)- Offering surgical abortions through 24 weeks gestation.
      3. Southwestern Women’s Options (Albuquerque, NM)- Offering third trimester surgical abortions through all 9 months of pregnancy.
      4. Planned Parenthood (Santa Fe, NM)- Only offering RU-486 medical abortions.
      5. Hill Top Women’s Reproductive Clinic (Santa Theresa, NM)- Only offering RU-486 medical abortions.

The New Mexico abortion cartel is facing immense pressure. Southwestern Women’s Options and The University of New Mexico are currently under investigation by the New Mexico Attorney General. They have, in the past year, been under scrutiny by the congressional Select Panel on Infant Lives. In addition, we have an active complaint with the New Mexico Nursing board regarding what we believe to be illegal abortions performed by a Planned Parenthood abortionist.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

“Over the past seven years, new pro-life organizations have begun and there has been a dramatic reversal and public policy shift in New Mexico. Great strides have been made and now we see the New Mexico abortion cartel being stifled instead of continuing their expansion throughout New Mexico. The abortion industry is in full retreat!”

During the coming weeks Abortion Free New Mexico will be releasing in-depth reports on the New Mexico abortion cartel.

“Since the Shavers have been working to end abortion in New Mexico, they have made great strides in exposing rampant abortion abuses, helping to close abortion businesses, and saving lives. To achieve the goal of an abortion-free state, it takes the wisdom that comes from experience and gritty determination. The Shavers are certainly up to the task of building an Abortion Free New Mexico.” Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Vice President of Operation Rescue

In addition to Operation Rescue, Abortion Free New Mexico is also working with Priests for Life to raise national awareness about late term abortion:
