January 2013 Newsletter: 2012 Year in Review

We have learned that ministry is simply planting seeds. Seeds of service, prayer, and conversation. These seeds take root and open a person’s heart to receiving the salvation that God provides. Sidewalk counseling has helped us realize this. Success can’t be determined by the number of lives saved, but by the opportunity to touch hearts, pray with these families, and pass on real help.

    grace in a bag

This is Grace and Love, in a bag!

This is the gift bag that we give to the women who come and go from the late-term abortion clinic Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO)  in Albuquerque, NM. Inside is info for PDL, Care Net, post abortion help, and the Aspen Project (for adoption   assistance), etc. It also contains tissue, a manicure kit, and warm cozy socks all for the women. A special thanks to Jennifer Bresett for making these.

    The Greatest of These Is…Love

You never know what to expect on any given day, this month, Tara received two unique calls on the same day. One was from an active duty Albuquerque, Detective and the other was from a Sidewalk Counselor in San Diego, California.

    2012 Year in Review

This year has gone by so fast, but so much has been accomplished:

~We maintained a peaceful, public,  and prayerful presence at two of Albuquerque, NM abortion clinics. Ministry on a sidewalk gives us the opportunity to talk with people we would otherwise never meet. Many of these conversations deal with broken people carrying heavy burdens. Some of these people confronted us as their enemies but by the grace of God, God was able to use our conversations to Make Friends With Our Enemies, Harshest Critics (Fellow Christians), and even God Haters!

~ Countless babies were saved and moms helped! These mom’s and families were directly served thanks to the ministry of Project Defending Life.

~ Pastor Eric Lamb of the largest Christian Church in New  Mexico (by attendance) Calvary of ABQ was inspired by our ministry and due to his leadership, he has held Pro-Life  apologetics training classes, which has resulted in more Christians Standing For Life!

~ We continued our research and exposed that abortion clinics in NM operate with virtually no oversight from government agencies which places unsuspecting women’s lives at risk!

~We met with the Governor and presented our findings regarding the lack of oversight at NM abortion clinics as well as our concerns about tax funded abortions in NM, costing tax payers millions.

~The NM Medical Board investigated the fourteen 911 call complaints filed by Tara last year. Based on the investigation, one abortion violated the standard of care. Late-Term Abortionist Shelley Sella faced a Medical Board hearing to  determine what, if any disciplinary action will be taken against her license.

~We continued to receive tips regarding abortion abuses taking place in Albuquerque abortion clinics and filed more complaints with the NM Medical Board.

~We uncovered that Planned Parenthood of NM injured a woman and filed additional medical board complaints against the abortionists involved! (This means that Tara has uncovered and exposed injuries to women taking place at all three ABQ abortion clinics and filed medical Board complaints against all of the abortionists!)

~Local media outlets have covered the Medical Board investigations and have thus informed the women of NM to the dangers posed at abortion clinics. We have confirmed that women have chosen life instead of abortion as a result of this!

~Between the two of us we were on the radio numerous times and did several church and small group Bible study presentations.

~We worked closely with Operation Rescue doing investigations and publishing our findings. Our press releases were picked up by local and national media outlets.

We’re thankful to everyone who helped make this year a success. Glory be to God!

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. Psalm 17:6

We appreciate all of the prayers lifted up on our  behalf this past year. We are also so grateful for all of the encouragement and support we have received that has kept us going. Thanks for partnering with us to save lives and further the kingdom of God.

Here is our prayer request list, we know that God is going to do even more than we can imagine this year.

    Please pray…

~For an end to abortion in New Mexico.

~For the conversion of every abortion doctor and clinic worker.

~For softened hearts of the women we speak to each day at abortion clinics.

~For the moms who have already chosen life and for the means to continue to serve them.

~For a continued grace filled and Christ centered ministry focus.

~For more opportunities to share the truth about abortion and it’s effects with the Christian community.

~For the Christian community to rise up out of apathy and a spiritual awakening.

We are full-time Pro-Life Missionaries and raise our own support from individuals who have a heart for our  life saving work! Your generous support makes our work possible!

Thank you for your continued prayers and support during these past 2 years of ministry here in ABQ. God is truly blessing our efforts here! We still have Pro-Life calendars available for purchase to support our ministry. These calendars were specially designed by a dear friend of ours to remind us how precious life is. It is a perpetual calendar to write in all of those special dates like birthdays, anniversaries and special events. Each month also features the picture of a beautiful ABQ newborn baby and a pro-life scripture. You will love owning this calendar and it also makes a great gift.

  • December Newsletter: The Fruit of Our Labor!

December Newsletter: The Fruit of Our Labor!

At the end of November, we were able to see a glimpse of the fruit of our labor here in New Mexico. Last October, Tara filed 11 medical board complaints after obtaining 911 calls in a public records request. One of those calls documented a 35 week abortion that had gone seriously wrong and the outcome was a woman with a ruptured uterus. The patient had actually had a previous C-section which increases the risks during an induction abortion. To make matters worse the medication used to increase contractions in labor were overused during the abortion and led to the ruptured uterus. We don’t even know if the woman lived or died.  According to the NM Medical Board this abortion violated the standard of patient care and the late term abortionist responsible, Shelley Sella, faced a disciplinary hearing on November 29th and 30th. We’re finally starting to see those who think they are above the law, held accountable. It will take 90 days for the Medical Board to decide what action will be taken against Sella, she could be suspended or lose her medical license altogether. Please keep the outcome in your prayers.

We are glad the New Mexico Medical Board is doing their job, because of their investigation; the late term abortion clinic is now screening all of its patients. Those seeking abortions that have had previous C-sections are being turned away. One woman came to ABQ for an abortion from out of state in August; she had a previous C-section and was turned away from the clinic. We were able to intercept her and Project Defending Life and another volunteer was able to assist her. Her baby boy is due the first week of December! We know that our presence alone turns away abortion minded women…Now the abortionists themselves, are turning them away! This is how God moves Mountains!

“Yes, abortion is legal in NM through all 9 Months!”

We did attempt to attend the Medical Board hearing, however, it ended up being closed to the public. In a state that has an open meetings act it was pretty disappointing to be excluded from this hearing. Unfortunately NM continues to show its pro-abortion bias on many levels. Even though the Medical Board and Shelley Sella herself wanted this hearing to be private we made sure that the community was well aware of what was taking place. We had Cheryl Sullenger from Operation Rescue join us for a press conference the first morning of the hearing and above, you’ll see  the Albuquerque Journal Newspaper’s coverage of the hearing.

Here is the video coverage by KOB Channel 4 News. Tara was interviewed for this report :

(You can click here to read the full report.)

It’s really time for people to be enlightened to the fact that late term, full term abortions are legal in NM and women are suffering at the hands of these abortionists. By God’s providence we did just that and will continue to expose the deeds of darkness until abortion is abolished in this state.

Here is some of the news coverage we have received over the past two years in New Mexico!

    Heroic Parents Choose Life

This month, while Tara served at our second PDL office, she had the privilege of meeting a very special couple. They came in for a pregnancy test and ultrasound with their beautiful 6 month old daughter in tow. Before they left, the boyfriend asked Tara if abortions were performed across the street because he saw Bud and another woman reaching out through a public, prayerful presence. Tara said yes, and explained they were done into the 2nd trimester. The boyfriend had a look of disgust and shared their daughter’s story. While in the womb she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, also known as “water in the brain,” which is a medical condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the ventricles, or cavities, of the brain. Of course, like many people today, an abortion was promoted as the simple solution to this families “problem.” This couple was told that they could have their daughter aborted up until 28 weeks gestation and it came highly recommended. However, this couple was heroic and never entertained the thought of killing their precious child, not for a moment. They told Tara that even though their baby was born with hydrocephalus, she was still the best gift that they had ever received. This man was the proud daddy of this beautiful blessing. As we continue to speak to women who have bought the lie that having an abortion for a fetal anomaly we will forever think of this couple’s heroic choice. Those who choose life in the most uncertain circumstances and despite severe challenges…are true hero’s!

A Happy Story with a Sad Ending

This month we met a woman who being pregnant several months ago went to one of Albuquerque’s three abortion clinics for an abortion. She rushed quickly into the clinic to avoid those praying on the sidewalk. Her and her boyfriend had come to the clinic that day with their minds made up, or so they thought. Her boyfriend actually went over and spoke with a volunteer who was offering help and alternatives for those entering the clinic that day. The volunteer listened to this couple’s situation and helped this woman’s boyfriend see that abortion was not the best option for them. Arrangements were made to help this gentleman find a job and get the couple involved in the parenting program at Project Defending Life. The boyfriend went into the clinic and brought his girlfriend out stating that they would work through things together and keep their baby.

A few weeks passed and life got tough for this couple, they didn’t actually follow up with the help that was offered to them. They had decided shortly after leaving the clinic that they would persevere on their own without the help that was offered to them. However, as time passed, having an abortion crept back into their minds as the solution to their hard times. This time the boyfriend persuaded his girlfriend to go ahead with an abortion, she however did not want to face those who had changed their minds before, and ended up at another clinic in town. This time no one was at the clinic to intercept this couple and she went ahead with the abortion. We will never know if they would have been convinced a second time to keep their baby but we know that offering help the first time gave them enough encouragement to carry on.

Every abortion bears consequences and that’s why we spend so much time at the clinics in ABQ, praying and reaching out to women and couples with the love of Christ.  However, we can’t be there all the time. So we pray and ask God to provide workers who can fill in the gaps when we go home for the day. This has been one of our top priorities, to have volunteers praying at the abortion clinics every hour they are open so that every woman is offered an alternative. If you are wondering if being present and praying in front of an abortion clinic is effective, let this be your answer. If you are on the fence and contemplating getting involved, let this true story be your motivation. Every woman deserves to know about what the pro-life community is eager to offer her and her pre-born child. Don’t wait another day to act; a baby and her mom are counting on you to offer her hope and LIFE!

We are so thankful to all of our monthly and one-time financial donors. Without the support of individuals like you, we would not be able to do this life saving work full time. We are humbled by the fact that God has called us to rescue those being led to the slaughter and we so look forward to the day when abortion will be ended in America.  Until then we ask you to consider partnering with us on a monthly basis or with a generous one time gift. We will send new donors a uniquely designed pro-life  birthday, anniversary and other special day forever calendar pictured above as a thank you gift. You can donate here online securely. You can also send your donation by mail, details here.

    Please Pray For Us:

~For an end to abortion in New Mexico.
~For the conversion of every abortion doctor and clinic worker.
~For softened hearts of the women we speak to each day at abortion clinics.
~For the moms who have already chosen life and for the means to continue to serve them.

Press Conference Thursday, November 29th at 10:00am at the New Mexico Medical Society

    November 29th,

Albuquerque, NM- The New Mexico Medical Board is acting on complaints filed by Tara Shaver of  Project Defending Life and Cheryl Sullenger of Operation Rescue by holding a hearing for late term abortionist Shelley Sella on Thursday, November 29th. Medical Board documents state that Sella violated the standard of care by conducting the dangerous 35-week abortion in a clinic setting instead of a hospital and gross negligence by disregarding the patient’s history of a previous Caesarean Section delivery. A Caesarean Section weakens the uterus, increasing the risks of rupture during subsequent labors. Sella is also accused of over-using uterine stimulants, which contributed to the life-threatening rupture. The hearing will determine what, if any, disciplinary action the Board will take, which could include suspension or revocation of Sella’s New Mexico medical license.

“Women come to Albuquerque from all over the US seeking late-term abortions that are illegal elsewhere only to be placed in grave danger by the negligent incompetence of Shelley Sella. Full term abortions are barbaric and dangerous acts that have no place in a civilized society. When you add in an abortionist that carelessly ignores serious health risk factors, you have a public health disaster. The New Mexico Medical Board is correct to institute disciplinary proceedings against Sella and we call on the Board to revoke Sella’s medical license in the interest of public safety.” Cheryl Sullenger, Operation Rescue

Even though the hearing is closed to the public Tara Shaver and Cheryl Sullenger will be holding a press conference Thursday November 29th at 10:00am at the New Mexico Medical Society located at 316 Osuna Rd NE in Albuquerque.

  • Happy Thanksgiving From New Mexico!

    Happy Thanksgiving From New Mexico!

Our family would like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for but are especially thankful for the prayers, encouragement and support that have come from you this year!

    We are thankful for…

God faithfully bringing forth fruit from this ministry. He deserves all the praise. There is so much happening right now in Albuquerque that is bringing us closer to seeing this city become abortion free. In fact on November 29th and 30th the first abortionist in New Mexico will be held accountable for a 35-week abortion that landed a woman in the hospital with a ruptured uterus. Abortionist Shelley Sella will have a hearing with the New Mexico Medical Board, which is the direct result of a year long investigation prompted by complaints filed by Tara and Operation Rescue, click here for full story. Please pray that the hearing will remain open to the public and that abortion abuses in New Mexico will finally reap their due reward.

    We are thankful for…

The launch of our new website: prolifewitness.org Our conversion from a blog to a website is going to provide people with easy access to so much vital information. We know that educating the general public with what is happening locally is so vital and we know that this new site will do just that. Please visit the site and feel free to subscribe at the top so that you never miss an update.

    We are thankful for…

Answered prayer. As you probably know by now one of our main prayers has been for more workers for this ripe harvest. The harvest of saving moms and babies from the horror of abortion. God has provided more workers from New Mexico’s largest church, Calvary Chapel ABQ. Pastor Eric Lamb recently launched the Pro-Life Movement 9 Months at Calvary ABQ.  This movement is bigger than just a Calvary movement and we look forward to more Christians and Churches stepping up and following Calvary ABQ’s example of faithfulness in the coming year! Here is the latest video done by a dear friend of ours that highlights the broadcast of Calvary’s own radio station’s coverage of the latest 40 Days for Life campaign. This broadcast is a great example of how to get the word out and shine light into this dark world.

    We are thankful for…

Both Project Defending Life and Operation Rescue who have blessed us in so many ways. Project Defending Life has been a tremendously blessing to us throughout the 2 years we have been serving here, it means so much to always have them as a partner in the effort to help moms keep their babies. We have learned so much from those at Operation Rescue and it has been a blessing to have them come along side us in our ministry here in New Mexico. Both organizations have been an invaluable resource to our ministry!

May God Bless all of you in your efforts to serve Christ in your communities!

    The Calvary Has Arrived!

This month, the 40 Days For Life campaign was out in full force! We are so pleased that during this campaign Calvary of Albuquerque stepped up in a big way. On October 31st, one of Calvary’s designated days to pray at Planned Parenthood about 30 people
came to stand for life. Calvary of ABQ also has their own Christian radio station 107.1 KNKT, and Peter Benson who hosts ABQ Connect aired his show on location at Planned Parenthood on October 31st and interviewed Bud along with some other local pro-life organizations including: Care Net, Birthright, New Mexico Right to Life, and Aspen Project-an adoption agency.

(Peter Benson interviewing Pastor Eric Lamb)

Also, this month the first of a series of videos was finished titled: “The Calvary Has Arrived” you can watch this encouraging 11 min. promo video here at our blog. Calvary of Albuquerque is the largest Christian Church by attendance in the entire state of New Mexico! It is encouraging to see them step up in a big way! A vital part of our ministry consists of helping to educate and activate the Christian community to stand for life. This month we are seeing the fruit of this effort. God is moving the biggest hearts, Churches, and mountains in New Mexico!

The Survivors Campus Life Tour was in town this month. We love having them join us at the clinics and doing outreach at the local colleges and high schools. Education is key in abortion prevention.

“The Campus Life Team is COMMITTED. After stopping in an Albuquerque shopping center to order pizza for dinner, the team noticed a Planned Parenthood a few doors down. They placed their order, grabbed some sidewalk chalk, and spent all the time it took to make the pizza writing pro-life messages across the walk in front of PP’s door. Unwavering abolitionists! “

    Sidewalk Testimonies

This month out at late-term abortion mill SWO as I approached a woman in her car who was leaving the parking lot I noticed tears in her eyes but she was smiling, and said “Thank you, I didn’t do it! I just could not do it!” I gave her local resources just in case she needed anything. Praise God! Another sidewalk counselor was able to pray and minister to a woman who had come to schedule an abortion. We are confident and prayerful that she will not have the abortion! We also spoke with a young father for quite a while who was open and honest. He brought his girlfriend for an abortion and she did go through with it. However, after our conversation he stated that our talk had changed his perspective and changed him. He openly stated that he was ashamed of himself. He was sorry that we met at an abortion clinic. He wanted us to know that he would never do this again, he was going to try to marry his girlfriend and he wished he would see us again “Not like this…Maybe at the mall.”

This month a young man walked through the parking lot headed toward late-term abortion mill SWO. He was offered a gift packet that has been put together to hand out. He remarked “I can’t say no to a gift.” When asked why he was headed into SWO, he replied that his mother worked there and he was getting a ride home. He remarked when prodded that he did not like that his mom worked at an abortion clinic. He was encouraged to talk to his mom about his concerns…because according to one sidewalk counselor, “A mom always listens to her children.” Pray that this is the seed that is planted that brings his mother out of the abortion industry!

This month after urgently ministering to a couple from California we realized they had come for a late-term abortion and that it was too late for the child, when we are at a loss for words and struggling to understand how best to serve the couples who refuse our resources…Prayer remains our most precious resource. Our God is bigger than the greatest mountains we face!

Wow, what a great witness to the community….this month, instead of meeting in their home or a coffee shop two women’s groups had their ladies weekly/monthly meeting on the sidewalks in front of abortion clinics SWO and UNMCRH. They are sharing fellowship here, praying here, worshiping here, lighting up the darkness, and sharing the love of Christ!

  • Sept. 2012 Newsletter: Ignorant & Idiotic…Modern Day Fools For Christ

This month we learned that as we step out in faith, God can use us to Light Up the Darkness and deal with people’s brokenness, those who are carrying heavy burdens. We can represent Jesus to them as he says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) As we lead them to Jesus…He will do the rest!

Thanks for your continued prayers and support! Prayers can move mountains, so please continue to keep us in your prayers…and let us know how we can pray for you!

The Calvary has arrived…Literally Calvary Chapel, ABQ!

Simply Being Present Is All It Takes To Save A Life…

This month the largest Christian Church in New Mexico, Calvary ABQ offered a second round of Pro-Life apologetics training “A Case For Life: Stand To Answer.” This has produced much fruit already as we have had many new people join us as we stand for life out at local abortion clinics in Albuquerque! Praise God for answered prayers!

Also, because Calvary ABQ is becoming active and equipping the body of Christ for works of service, Tara led a training course for those interested in volunteering at Project Defending Life. The training consisted of pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, and sidewalk counseling. Around twenty women went through the training! Project Defending Life has two locations in Albuquerque, New Mexico one located 20 feet from Planned Parenthood and the other located across the street from the UNM abortion mill UNMCRH!

Please visit: www.lateterm.com and share this information with others!

This month while out at Late-Term mill SWO sidewalk counselor Bobby, was able to talk to a young girl (still in high school) after she went in and came back out. He asked her if she was there for an abortion and she said “Yes” and burst into tears. We were able to share with her all the help PDL offers. Bobby shared with her mom about his church and a new food ministry they have just started, she left with a flier about the ministry. The young girl left with her baby! This is how Christ’s love is lived out! This was the third late-term Tuesday in a row with a confirmed baby saved. Bobby and I joked that the new people coming out (thanks to the Calvary ABQ class “Stand To Answer”) would think all these babies being saved was normal…Welcome to the new normal!

Our God is Mighty to Save…as we step out in faith to be used by Him! We are ending abortion one woman, one child, one day at a time…and to God be the Glory!

God is obviously blessing the faithfulness of his Body as they step out in faith…some for the first time: There were 10 turnarounds/babies saved this month…that we know about! To God Be The Glory!

Showing Christ’s Love Saves The Unborn And Comforts Those In Need

By Monte Harms of Stand For Life– Read the rest of this article and others at www.standforlife.net

Having Christ’s love flow through those on the sidewalk have saved lives and comforted those after they had their abortions. Bud Shaver shares recent encounters from the sidewalk of Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque, NM:

Everyone has a picture, concept…stereotype of what a public presence at a abortion clinic is. Let me share with you what I witnessed and experienced today out at late-term mill SWO. A woman came out of the abortion clinic after she had her abortion. Also, a college student from UNM was waiting while his girlfriend was inside having an abortion (his child). Jennifer and others were able to wave them over to talk with them…they didn’t just talk to these people, they were able to hug, weep, minister to, pray and love them! This is more than a snap-shot of pro-life ministry…This is what grace, mercy, love…Christ looks like. We have an opportunity to live out Christ’s love and share Him with those who desperately need to find Him! We love because He first loved us…We have been lost and broken until we found the healer! I witnessed what Christianity is…I witnessed Christ being lifted up and drawing the lost to Him! I was also able to talk to the abortion clinic manager. Orae gave her our latest handout (from HLA) so she would know what help and information the women received from us. (A UPS driver told us that they have a sign posted inside the clinic stating “Pray to end sidewalk harassment!”) I was able to tell her we cared and were praying for her too. She told us they were “Having a hard time keeping up”…with us! We have had several turnarounds and saves this month…that we know about! We have the opportunity to be His hands, feet, body…and heart to these men and women!

Many who go in to have an abortion know what they are destroying, but they often feel that abortion is the only alternative for them. Unfortunately, the outside pressure from others to abort is tremendous. But when an alternative is displayed that shows Christ’s love for them and help for their situation, their eyes are sometimes opened. Project Defending Life (PDL) in Albuquerque, NM and other organizations throughout the country give sidewalk counselors the necessary tools to assist the needy. PDL offers all types of assistance to those that feel backed into a corner with no way out. Often when the woman and man involved sees an ultrasound of their baby at PDL or another pregnancy center, they feel there isn’t any reason for them to destroy that life. Also, if they know there is someone there to assist them financially and with moral or spiritual support, they can see the light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Thousands of sidewalk counselors and pregnancy centers across America are that beacon of light for the unborn and those who want to abort.

    Please Pray :

  • August 2012 Newsletter: We Are Ending Abortion, One Woman, One Child, One Day At A Time!

Simply Being Present Is All It Takes To Save A Life…

This month God used our prayerful pro-life witness at the abortion mill’s and
as a result, there were several turnaround’s and we were able to speak with/help numerous people. It always amazes me how we can light up the darkness by being present at the abortion clinic for women in their darkest hour and share with them life-affirming alternatives! How else will they know?! While we wait and pray for the Supreme Court and for our own state legislators to end to abortion…we are ending abortion one woman, one child, one day at a time by serving and by simply being there! Thank you for your continued prayers and support…together we are lighting up the darkness!

If you want to know how you can Stand
For Life, here is a great place to start…on
    your knees!

This month, we had a great turnout
    from the largest local church,
    Calvary Chapel ABQ

This woman was walking by, saw our presence
and stopped to share her abortion
testimony and how she turned to Christ
and was forgiven….now Christ is using her
to witness and minister to others! This is
the power of the God we serve!

We do interact with both local law enforcement
and the FBI. We are appreciative
of their public service, and it allows
us opportunities to build bridges with
them. They understand that our public
presence is legal and always peaceful!

“Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this
    dark world!” ~Ephesians 6:12

The Mainstream Media Publicizes The Truth About Abortion

This month a local news station KOAT Channel 7 interviewed Bud out at Late-Term abortion clinic Southwestern Women’s Options. (You can visit our blog by clicking here, to read KOAT’s coverage.) While we always have our critique of the media, we are encouraged that our talking points are getting aired about Albuquerque being the Late-Term Abortion Capital of the country, and the media is focusing on the truth about abortion. This is vital, because as our dear friend and Director of Project Defending Life Fr. Stephen Imbarrato stated, “I truly believe that publicity helps us, not them”…when people do talk about the reality of abortion and are educated…we always win, because lives are saved and minds are changed! The next day after KOAT aired the story, New Mexico’s most listened to talk radio station ,KKOB interviewed Bud and opened up the phone lines for peoples comments and reaction’s to the brutality of abortion, and the public use of graphic images to reveal the truth about abortion. My good friend Mon-te Harms of Stand For Life listened to the show that day and he wrote up a wonderful summary:

By, Monte Harms- Stand For Life

In the last week a truck with photos of the truth has been getting a fair amount of publicity in Albuquerque. Local ABC affiliate KOAT-TV aired a story about the “truth truck” that has abortion photos on its side. Pro-life activist Bud Shaver drives the truck around town and parks it across the street from the late-term abortion facility, Southwestern Women’s Options, while he is peacefully counseling women and men at SWO…

    the Christian community.
~For the Christian community to rise up out of apathy and a spiritual awakening.
~For more workers for this ripe harvest.

    MAKING FRIENDS WITH OUR ENEMIES!

In the widely-viewed film 180, there is a young man named Steve with a Mohawk, tattoos, and piercings. He is also very fouled-mouth, anti-God and anti-Jewish. The first reaction to him might be is that he is a kook or “those atheists are so weird and rude.” By the end of the interaction with 180’s creator Ray Comfort, it is obvious Steve’s heart has been softened and he states that he will think about reading his Bible.

Pro-life activist Bud Shaver demonstrates often how to respond to someone who states they are pro-abortion, anti-God, or just does not want Bud to be in front of the abortion facility. He has made friends with his enemies by not shunning them but engaging in productive positive conversation. Read Monte’s entire article here: The Exception and Worst-Case Scenario Approaches To Issues

As we step out in faith, God can use us to Light Up the Darkness, and deal with people’s brokenness, those who are carrying heavy burdens. We can represent Jesus to them as he says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) As we lead them to Jesus..He will do the rest!

    MAKING FRIENDS WITH OUR ENEMIES!

I was reaching out to abortion-minded women at the late-term abortion mill, Southwestern Women’s Options. I was confronted by a young man who was very angry! I was as close as you get to being violently assaulted. He cursed me and asked me what I had to say about it. I told him God Bless You and if you want to talk rationally about the situation we could. He left just as quickly as he came, cursing and flipping me off as he left!

This does not happen as often as one may think, but it does occasionally happen. The difference today was that this guy returned about an hour later…this time very apologetic! He was genuinely sorry for how he treated me.

When we ended our conversation, he did not fall on his knees and profess Christ as his Lord and he was still “Pro-Choice” when he left but he did shake my hand…What seemed impossible just one hour earlier with him being my enemy, was possible for the God that we serve…We ended our (rational) conversation as friends!

MAKING FRIENDS WITH OUR HARSHEST CRITICS…FELLOW CHRISTIANS!

Sometimes our harshest critics are fellow Christians! We are not here to make friends (even though we sometimes do!), but to save lives! Our ministry is Christ centered and Grace Filled! Please be gracious to us! We do save lives and change minds…everyday! We are always effective…Each and every-time we step out in Faith! Yes, we have seen the “Mountains Move!”

    MAKING FRIENDS WITH GOD-HATERS!

This video footage was taken on August 8, 2012 out at Late-Term abortion clinic Southwestern Women’s Options. This was this woman’s (and children’s) first time peacefully witnessing and offering help out at SWO! What an introduction to the hostility intolerance, and hatred from the “Pro-Choice” community! This guy admitted to being post-abortive. He was carrying around all this baggage, abortion does not just effect women and children…it also effects men! We eventually found common ground and we actually became…friends! (This is just some excerpts the actual conversation was over an hour long!) Also, there were two babies and two women saved from the horror called abortion this day! One of the women was able to receive help from Project Defending Life!

We are making friend’s with God-Haters, and ending abortion one woman, one child, one day at a time!

  • May 2012 Newsletter: We Saw Mountains Move!

On UNM Campus with Survivors! The Survivors Campus Life Tour visited ABQ and brought their displays out to UNM. It was great being at a college campus again (We spent our 1st year of pro-life ministry with Survivors and visited over 180 schools!), however, the students at UNM can be very aggressive. A male student even pushed over one of the displays, but some really nice Muslim girls rushed over to help put it back together and stayed and talked for quite a while. This gave us an opportunity to speak with students we may never have been able to connect with otherwise. The best thing I heard a passerby say was, “I was totally pro-choice before I saw that sign…now there is no way I can be!”

“Massive Pro-Life Event With ‘180’ & Ray Comfort”

We are so encouraged by answered prayers. One of our prayers has consistently been more workers for the harvest and for churches to become actively pro-life. Calvary of ABQ is doing just that and we are excited to see how God is going to use those who are willing to further His kingdom and save lives. On April 4th, there was a packed house of several thousand at Calvary of ABQ who watched the incredible movie “180” followed by an interview with its creator Ray Comfort. A table was set up for several ministries including 9 months, Pro-Life Movement, which was founded by Pastor Eric Lamb and his wife Cherita. Eric and Cherita are dear friends of ours and we plan to work together with them to bring awareness to the public and hope to women in ABQ.

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Luke 10:2

Sidewalk Conversation’s & A Glimpse Outside SWO Abortion Clinic…One morning this month my friend and a faithful volunteer, Lorenzo and I pulled up in the Truth Truck and got all our signs set up out at the ABQ Late-Term abortion mill Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO). Almost immediately a couple of young women pulled into the SWO parking lot. They literally just drove right to the exit where we were and the young woman in the passenger side was balling her eyes out and thanked us for being there, she said that she had come for an abortion but changed her mind! We gave her Project Defending Life’s (PDL) information and all the local resources. Praise God! We have seen cars drive in and leave on numerous occasions, the passengers never get out of their car and we don’t even get to speak to them. Our prayer is always that they changed their mind…without really knowing for sure. Thanks to the ability we have to be in the public square proclaiming the message of life and to PDL we have so much to offer these women and minds are often changed. Some women don’t need material or financial help, but they do need to see our prayerful presence and the truth depicted by our graphic signs which the Holy Spirit uses to pierce their heart and strip away all the lies and excuses. They need Christians and the Pro-Life community to be there…bringing even a mustard seed sized faith to the abortion clinic is all it takes for God to move mountains…I know, because we witnessed mountains move this month!

Other Opportunities and Blessings…This month a Catholic moms group came to pray at the UNM clinic. About 8 women came with babies in tow to be a witness for life. This paints a beautiful picture for passersby and also for women seeking abortions.

We ended the month doing a presentation for a local Catholic youth group. This presentation was meant to inspire the youth to make a difference in the lives of others. Young people today have the ability to shape the future so we must encourage and educate them to walk in God’s ways and to stand up for the truth no matter what. We spent some time in CO this month as well to rest and re-energize. It was a lot of fun…and much needed! Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support for our ministry here in New Mexico. It is evident that God is at work and has great things planned for the future. We will press on until this state is abortion free and may God receive all of the glory!

  • April Newsletter 2012: Making the Most of Every Opportunity!

    Another day in our lives…

One morning this month I got ready to head over to the Late-Term abortion mill SWO…as Tara was finishing up a research project she has been doing regarding possible abortions in Santa Fe [she confirmed that the Planned Parenthood (PP) in Santa Fe just got a nurse practitioner willing to administer the RU-486 medical abortions…which means that PP in Santa Fe is doing abortions up to 9wks:[ She was finishing that up so she could give a report to Fr. Brennan and then head over to the PDL pregnancy center across from the UNM abortion mill to give free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and other assistance to moms in need. I walked outside and OUR CAR WAS STOLEN! (1980 Gray Toyota that our good friend Lorenzo generously gave to us)…I still went out to SWO but Tara had to stay home and file a police report!

Keep us in your prayers as the enemy is out in full force, pray his attacks don’t get more serious and for our continued protection in this spiritual battle that spills out into physical attacks at times! Out at SWO that day, there were 2 cars from NM, 2 from TX, one from Nevada, one from AZ, one from Washington and we spoke with a Hispanic couple who were referred to SWO from a hospital in Mexico!

“Have I not commanded you? Be Strong and Courageous. Do not be Afraid; Do not be Discouraged, for YHWH your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Making the Most of Every Opportunity!

Yet another reason its good to have graphic images of abortion violence out at the abortion mill….you just may get a counter protestor. Believe it or not having them stand next to the graphic image of an aborted baby with their “Pro-Choice” sign is wonderful for those passing by. This contrast helps many to see exactly what “Choice” really is…not to mention counter protestors never stay long after they realize it! This girl did not stick around for very long…I even offered to let her hold my graphic sign…if she would tell people that this is the choice she supports…she left pretty quickly after that!

    He’s a Boy…

We found out this month that our baby due in August is a…BOY!

“We not only care about women & their babies…We hug trees too!” (Bud putting up signs in front of SWO)

    Sidewalk Conversation’s & A Glimpse Outside SWO Abortion Clinic…

This month an Indian couple came to the Late-Term mill SWO. She must have been at least 6-7 months along! She kept looking with horror at the Truth Truck and our graphic signs as she slowly walked in refusing to talk to us. Later they came out pacing and she was wiping tears from her eyes. I waved them over and her husband walked over to me. I asked him if they had already begun the abortion. He stated that they had gone there for an abortion, but that they could not go through with it and they were returning home! Praise God! A Native American woman approached us one day as she was heading downtown to the soup kitchen and she asked for some of our pro-life resource literature to pass out to women. She hugged each of us and headed on her way. A discerning couple asked to walk and talk with her. They came back and told me that she struggled with alcoholism and that they shared Christ with her and prayed with her. She responded with interest and wanted to find out how to receive Jesus as her Lord and made a commitment to learn what it takes to serve Him! She mentioned that she knew of a Christian group and they told her to go and tell them of her decision to receive Jesus as the Messiah, her savior and her Lord. It appears God saved two lives! I am always amazed by how God can use each one of us as we step out in faith!

Another day a woman walked into the abortion clinic saying “I’m judged, I’m judged!” Bobby Coffman Jr. replied “We are here to love you, not judge you…let us help you!” Her boyfriend walked over to talk and said that God is the creator of life and He wants this child to live… he kept saying over and over how this abortion was going to have consequences and that God would never forgive them. I told him that the enemy wanted this abortion to destroy the child and both of their lives. I stated that as much as God loved that baby and wanted the baby to live, this same God wanted the same thing for their lives…He is the creator of life and He loves them just as much! I gave him a card with post-abortion information I asked him if he would share what I told him to his girlfriend…”How much God loves her and wants her to have abundant life…in Him!” This man thanked me and he said that he was going to use this experience to try and help others…especially young people! Praise God! God takes us where we are at…(even at an abortion clinic)…and touches us, begins to renew and remold us instantly, and begins to use us for His Glory! This is the power of the God we serve!

Here is a testimony from a wonderful couple who have made a commitment to stand for life every Tuesday (In fact Collette stepped down from full-time to part-time hours at her job just to make sure she can be out each Tuesday…even though her husband was recently laid off!) Let this inspire each of us to do all that we can…to help save a life!

PRAISE REPORT! So, being Tuesday, Bobby, Angelica, and I headed out to Southwestern Women’s Options (the late term abortion mill here in Albuquerque) to pray and reach out to those in need. The weather was pretty cold so I ended staying inside the car with Angelica while Bobby headed out on the sidewalk. At the end of the vigil, Bobby said with tears in his eyes, that we saved a baby. Apparently, a lady came to have an abortion and brought a male friend with her. Bobby reached out to them in love and asked if he could just talk with them. The male said that he would be right back to talk to him. He went in to the abortion mill with the woman and came out very shortly after. Bobby began talking with this man and began sharing his testimony. He shared about our lost unborn children. It was obvious what would happen to the child if she went thru with the abortion but Bobby made sure to stress what would happen to the woman…the physical and mental consequences. Not so ironically, a lady came up at that moment and joined in the conversation. She is a nurse. Bobby asked the nurse for confirmation as to whether what he was saying was right…she backed him up all the way. After talking with Bobby the man went back into the mill and several minutes later, he and his female friend walked out. Bobby introduced himself to the woman and told her that he would keep her and her situation in prayer. She thanked him and they headed down the road. Just knowing that she was going into a place of murder but walked out with her child’s heart still beating is such a victory! THANK YOU JESUS for using my husband! THANK YOU LORD for using our past sorrows for your glory! Please let this be just the first of many victories!

Click Here- to listen to the Charge by Tara at the Stand Up For Religious Freedom Rally- Albuquerque, NM- We estimate about 400 in attendance! After the rally at the Federal Court House, the Stop HHS ABQ participants (estimated 100) moved to Late-Term abortion mill SWO for prayer. New Mexico is one of 15 states where people of faith ALREADY fund 100% of abortion services with our tax dollars via Medicaid!

  • June Newsletter: Overcoming the Darkness with Light…In Season!

    Picking up Momentum

The past couple of months have been productive, but at the same time we’ve kind of felt like things have slowed down with our ministry. One thing that is so evident…and that we continue to hear from people who live here, is the presence of a demonic strong hold. In more ways than one darkness is constantly trying to overtake the light here in ABQ.

Thankfully, as the spiritual forces of darkness are at work, the God we serve works harder! His power and presence was magnified this month and we give him all the glory and honor for what He is doing here. Please commit to praying for us on a daily basis as we stand with God in this spiritual battle. Thank you to those who already so faithfully do pray for us!

“Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this dark world!” ~Ephesians 6:12

    Another Life Saved

Tara received a call out of the blue one Thursday this month. On the other end of the line was a frantic woman facing a serious dilemma. She was one of those women who often find themselves backed into a corner, with only one choice-abortion. Unfortunately her first words to Tara were, “I’m having an abortion, there’s no other way.” It seemed as though her mind was made up.

Her boyfriend had recently left her high and dry after he asked her to quit her job to be a stay at home mom. She was dependent on him and he left her for someone else. When she tried to reason with him for the sake of their child, he told her to have an abortion. With rent past due, he gave her an ultimatum. It was have the abortion and I’ll pay your rent or don’t and you and your children will end up on the streets.

After getting her job back and contacting state agencies for help she called a Pastor who had our number. That’s how she knew to contact Tara. She admitted that she didn’t know who Tara was and wasn’t even calling to ask for help, she just called and didn’t know why. Talk about a divine appointment. It was a privilege for Tara to talk with her, find out her situation and her feelings about the situation.

Deep within her she didn’t want an abortion, she just didn’t have the resources or support to make the right choice. Tara contacted her landlord and Project Defending Life paid the remainder of her rent. Tara spent time assuring her that even though her situation seemed too overwhelming, that it would get better and that we’re here to help. That was enough to lift her spirits and her resolve to keep her baby. She even called her ex boyfriend and told him that he couldn’t control and manipulate her.

This is another victory for Christ and a testimony of the faithfulness of God to save lives through the love and charity of His people! To Him be the glory.

    National Day of Prayer Week

Bud had a great opportunity to share the pulpit with Pastor Eric Lamb of Calvary Albuquerque on the topic of abortion during the National Day of Prayer Week 2012 at Glory Christian Fellowship in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Today is the day to stand up and speak out against the abortion holocaust surrounding us…and to God be the Glory!

    Reaping A Harvest…In Season!

This month we found out that based on a complaint Tara filed back in 2009, while we were working as interns for Operation Rescue in Wichita, KS, that an abortionist in Queens, New York was stripped of his medical license and the abortion mill he ran was closed down!

We are so encouraged by this news! This is a testament that using the law and regulations already in place against abortionists works!

Please pray that our efforts to do this here in NM bears the same fruit.

    Our Presence is Vital!

An abortion mill in Birmingham, Alabama had a Federal Injunction that police had been applying illegally against the Pro-Life community for several years. Back in 2010 Bud worked with several pro-life groups to re-claim the side walk in front of the New Woman All Women abortion mill! Since then, sidewalk counselors filed complaints after witnessing two ambulances transport injured women to the hospital. Based on those complaints, the Board of Medicine in AL conducted an investigation and as a result this mill was closed down…May 18th, 2012!

This month Tara was able to revisit some of our previous efforts to end abortion here in NM. A follow-up meeting with the Governor was held as well as a meeting with the Executive Director of the Medical Board.

We have also launched a new project that we believe will shed light on why abortion is being perpetuated here in NM. We are very excited about how things are moving along. Stay tuned for more information and please utilize the strongest tool we have as Christians.

Prayer is what will move mountains and defeat the enemy. We invite you to join us in this spiritual battle, please contact us to find out how you can make a difference locally or in your state.

    God Bless You!

  • March Newsletter 2012: Sidewalk Conversation’s & A Glimpse Outside Two ABQ Abortion Clinics…

    And Now There Are Four!

Our family would like to announce the conception or our second child! He or she is due to arrive sometime in late August. We are all so thankful for the blessing of new life!

    In Everything Giving Thanks

This past month has been one of trials and also one with many reasons to rejoice. As Christians we strive to be thankful and content in every situation, however, that can be difficult at times. We thank all of you who faithfully pray for us, we know that is what keeps us going as God works out all the details of our lives. Please continue to pray for us as we move forward in this life saving work. The enemy has a small victory when we get discouraged and doing this ministry can be discouraging if we dwell on the lives lost, women injured, and families destroyed by abortion daily. Instead of the enemies lies, we must always fill our mind with God’s Word and His promises; knowing He is always at work for our good and the good of these women and families! Your prayers, however, are the most powerful way to ensure that God receives the glory and victory. Thanks again for standing with us in this spiritual battle!

    Opportunities to Share…

With 40 Days for Life beginning on February 22 this Spring, Tara had an opportunity to speak on two different radio stations to promote the event. We continue to be thankful for these opportunities to share upcoming events and ministry updates.

We are also praising God for answered prayers. One of our main prayer requests is for more workers for the harvest here in ABQ. This month we had encouraging meetings with two groups of church leaders who are eager to be involved with pro-life work in their churches.

Visit 40daysforlife.com to find out about the 40 Days for life campaign near you! Please join us in prayer for these church leaders who are taking bold steps for life in their churches and as always more workers to promote life in our community.

Sidewalk Conversation’s & A Glimpse Outside Two ABQ Abortion Clinics…

During the month of February, we spoke with women from New Mexico, Utah, California, Minnesota, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, Washington, Kansas and Louisiana outside of the late term clinic. I also received an e-mail this month from a woman from the United Kingdom who was planning to come here for a Late-Term abortion until she came across Lateterm.com and realized how dangerous Southwestern Women’s Option’s (SWO), is! The ironic thing is that she wanted an alternative abortion clinic to go to, so we gave her an alternative to abortion, local pregnancy resources in the UK and knowledge! We received an e-mail back from her and she told us that she decided to choose adoption instead of coming here to Albuquerque for a late-term abortion! Praise God! We also found out that she lives not too far from where Tara lived in Nottingham, England during a year of mission work! They are keeping in touch and Tara asked if we could keep her in our prayers and she would very much appreciate that.

We spoke to homeless women who still remained homeless after their abortion, women who were raped whose abortion did not heal or change that, we spoke with women who just simply did not want to have a child at this time. One woman was so proud and confident of her choice to abort her baby before her abortion but left afterward sobbing. Abortion is never the right choice and does not solve any of life’s problems! Despite all this darkness, there was a ray of light this month as a couple who had an appointment, instead left SWO before going in and chose to go to Project Defending Life where they were able to get real help! God lit up the darkness! Hope, love and life made a way and this couple chose to reach for the light!

This month out at SWO, a young woman came out of the clinic carrying a clipboard and she was filling out paperwork. I waved for her to come over and she reluctantly did. She told me she was scheduled for an abortion and she desperately needed it and that there was no hope for her or her baby! We talked for a few minutes and as I gave her Project Defending Life contact info she wiped away tears and said sorry but she was going back in and having the abortion. She walked back in and literally, in less than a minute, she came running back out, jumped in the passenger side of a car and the car sped away! We are there to bring hope where there is no hope, life where all there is, is death. We are there because Grace and Truth came through Jesus Christ!

This month, a woman who drove a friend to SWO for a late-term abortion, responded as I was offering alternatives to abortion and offering hope that “It’s the father’s fault! If he took financial responsibility for the child, then they would not be here.” I responded that the father of the child was indeed responsible for taking care of the child, but that it was the mother, who was choosing to kill the child! I told her that she was also responsible because she brought this child here to be killed. I stated that we all need to take responsibility for our part! We all have a role to play in protecting these children and serving these families…so that abortion is never an option! It starts with educating yourself about the injustice taking place in your communities. You can also support local pro-life ministries (Project Defending Life, Care Net, Birthright, or other local Pregnancy Centers in your area) so that these women have resources and can learn how to support themselves and their babies when their world falls apart around them. Also, you can support pro-life missionaries who stand for life; your support makes our work possible! By partnering with us, our voice can be Your voice!

    Our Prayer Requests:

~For an end to abortion in New Mexico.
~For the conversion of every abortion doctor and clinic worker.
~For softened hearts of the women we speak to each day at abortion clinics.
~For the moms who have already chosen life and for the means to continue to serve them.
~For a continued grace filled and Christ centered ministry focus.
~For more opportunities to share the truth about abortion and it’s effects with the Christian community.
~For the Christian community to rise up out of apathy and a spiritual awakening.
~For more workers for this ripe harvest.
~For our safety in this spiritual battle.

We are full-time Pro-Life Missionaries and raise our own support from individuals who have a heart for our life saving work!

Here is a typical conversation with a pro-abortion person, who is upset that we are showing the truth about their choice…abortion. Lorenzo is a little on edge, because this man was abusive to him earlier in the week and knocked down some of Lorenzo’s signs and other pro-life displays. Orae is the other pro-life gentleman with the cool Re-Think Pink sign! (Be warned, there is some offensive language…from the pro-abortion guy…shockingly!)[I (Bud) am filming and talking at times]

“Doing everything for the glory of God”

Sanctity of Life Awareness and Unity Day (SOLAUD) 2012

Every year in the month of January Pro-Life groups host events all throughout the country. Here in New Mexico, Christians from all across the state come together to promote the sanctity of human life. This year Bud and I had the privilege of organizing a morning rally featuring praise and worship, speakers and testimonies of post abortive men and women. One of our dear friends Pastor Lamb shared his heart as one of our keynote speakers.

His message was centered around the simple injustice of abortion and the urgency to get involved to end abortion in America. After the morning rally an estimated 2500 people marched to the Santa Fe Capitol to meet Governor Martinez and other Legislators. We were very encouraged and hope that in the coming year more people will get involved and stay involved!

Here is Pastor Eric Lamb’s Passionate Keynote address!

Last month we uncovered that Bruce Ferguson was retiring at the end of December. He had been doing abortions for over 30years and his clinic was one of four Albuquerque abortion clinics. Well this month, we confirmed that he did in fact retire and shut down!

    Opportunities to Share…

This month we were so blessed to have several opportunities to speak to different groups. We started the month off by speaking at the PDL Parenting Class on a Wednesday night. Then Tara was able to be on the radio to promote the Sanctity of Life event and to share about last years accomplishments. We also spoke to two separate church groups . These opportunities are so vital in getting the word out and educating the public. It is true that most people have no idea what is happening in their own backyards. Tara went up to Santa Fe with a coalition of pregnancy center volunteers to speak with legislators about the ministries of pregnancy centers as well as the parental notification bill we hope to see put into law here in NM. She also shared with legislators our latest press release. (You can read it here!)

New Mexico Abortionist Quits For the Sake of His “Sanity”

“Abortion is not good for anyone, not for babies, not for women, and according to Bruce Ferguson, someone who would know, abortion is not good for the doctors performing them. We are happy to learn that our efforts to inform women of the dangers of abortion are having an impact and that fewer women are aborting their babies.”
This month we confirmed that abortionist Bruce Ferguson retired on December 30th, 2011, and will no longer be performing abortions.  His Albuquerque abortion clinic is now closed.  According to his website, he has been performing abortions for 30 years.  Watch the undercover video of Ferguson here
Also in December, Santa Fe abortionist Lucia Cies retired. The closure of her abortion clinic made Santa Fe an abortion-free community.  Read about it here

  • December Newsletter 2011: “A Time of Refreshing and a Departure”

The end of October and first week of November for us was a time of refreshing and spending time as a family. We were blessed to spend time in both Colorado and Flagstaff, AZ. It was our first time to CO where we were actually able to do some hiking and exploring. We met some new people and Charlie and Tirzah had a great time.

In Flagstaff, we had many people to see and reconnect with. We love our church family and friends in Flagstaff and always enjoy our visits there. It was really amazing being in an abortion free Flagstaff as well. We are thankful to have had this time to spend with Charlie as well. It was his last road trip and vacation with us.

On Sunday, November 20th Charlie flew back to Texas to be reunited with his mom after living with us for one year. While it has been hard to see him go, we entrust him to God’s care and pray that this past year has blessed him as much as it has us. Please continue to lift up Charlie and Tara’s family in prayer. Our prayer will always be that Charlie grows up to be a strong man of God, never wavering from the truth set before him.

    Opportunities to Share the Truth
Our outreach at two separate abortion clinic’s continue. This crucial aspect of our ministry can also be the most emotionally draining. We put so much prayer and effort into our time out at the clinics. We are always effective as we touched on in last month’s newsletter, however, our desire is that every abortion minded woman would run over to us with open arms and leave with help, hope, and her precious child. Most of the time, tragically, this is not the case.
We know that God uses our presence when these woman are dropped off, and we are still there when they come out of the clinic after their abortion. Over the past few months, we have passed out a lot of post-abortion information and resources as well as prayed with some of the friends and boyfriends who dropped off these women. Please pray that these prayers and resources will bear fruit in the lives of these wounded women!
On November 19th, we were graciously invited to set up a table at ABQ’s first Festival of Praise. This free event was held to raise money for the National Day of Prayer week in May. There were many different singing groups as well as Christians from all over the area. We set up an educational table with fetal models and information to get the word out about what is happening in ABQ.
Apart from this event Tara was interviewed on a local Christian radio station. This interview was with regard to our latest press release/expose’ on the University of New Mexico’s abortion agenda. Our press release has already bore much fruit and we hope to share a lot of good news with you next month. If you have not read our latest press release: Exposé: Tax Funded Abortion Training and the Betrayal of True Medicine at UNM, you can read it posted earlier on our blog.
  • November Newsletter 2011: The Crisis Continues; “Who is My Neighbor…?”

    Investigation Reveals Tax Funded Abortions
In October, Project Defending Life and Operation Rescue, launched an investigation showing that Medicaid pays not only for abortions, but completely covers third-trimester abortions for no medical reason whatsoever.
An undercover phone call was made to ABQ’s late term abortion clinic. The caller identified herself as having a healthy pregnancy in the 26th week of gestation to a Southwestern Women’s Options employee named Sue. She told Sue that the reason she wanted an abortion was because her husband had just lost his job.
We discovered that an abortion in the 26th week of pregnancy costs $9,000 and in New Mexico, is covered 100% by Medicaid. There are an additional 15 states in the country that fund abortions through state and federal tax payer dollars.
This investigation was done to help educate the public about where their tax dollars are going. It is clearly disturbing and shocking that funds are being used to take innocent human life especially when the vast majority of the American people strongly object to their tax money being used in this way.
In addition, we uncovered that Medicaid also pays for abortions done on babies diagnosed with down syndrome. October is Down Syndrome awareness Month, however, 90% of children diagnosed with down syndrome in America, are killed by abortion simply for being disabled. We found in our investigation, that an abortion performed on a child with down syndrome in the 30th week of pregnancy costs anywhere from $10,000-$16,000 and is paid for by us…taxpayers.
We’re reminded that all life is precious, sacred to God, & deserving of protection no matter what!
    The Crisis Continues…
Another 911 tape revealing an additional botched abortion was uncovered this month by Tara. We released the tape to Operation Rescue and filed an additional complaint with the NM Medical Board. This latest call to 911 from Southwestern Women’s Options was placed on September 22, and makes a total of 14 life-threatening abortion complications over the past two years.
It is vital that the public as well as the Medical Board are aware of this continuing crisis. These life threatening injuries are continuing, so please pray that the doctors involved will be held accountable for their actions, legally forced to stop and surrender to Christ as their Lord!
Thankfully, the local media continues to cover this urgent crisis and Tara was able to do several interviews on local Christian radio stations.

    Another Baby Born!
This month, we found out that in June of this year another baby was born into our ministry, by the grace of God. When Tara met Samantha*( not her real name) it was truly a divine appointment. Samantha had just come from a horrible interview for a job that she was trying to obtain. She was completely distraught, in fact she was physically shaking.
Tara soon found out about her situation and about the fact that she had previously had an abortion. Samantha would not recognize her baby as a person and insisted her baby was an “it.” Thankfully Samantha attended some parenting classes and Project Defending Life also provided her with maternity clothes and much needed love and encouragement. She delivered a healthy baby boy in June. We are so happy for her and rejoice in her courage to choose life for her son.
    “Who is My Neighbor…?”
Recently we were asked, “Are you successful in your ministry?” That’s a great question and we know it carries some baggage since hundreds of women have abortions each month in ABQ. Our answer was an emphatic, “YES!” Here we’d like to touch the tip of the iceberg of this question. One of our goals is to simply “be there” to reach abortion minded women in order to offer life affirming alternatives. These alternatives are foreign to most of the women we speak to, they think that abortion is their only option. We can’t make the choice for them, but we can be modern day “Good Samaritan’s” and offer help to our neighbors and not pass them by.
Where are abortion minded women? According to another ABQ pregnancy center Director, most of their clientele are women who want to carry their babies to term. The majority of women in ABQ, who visit pregnancy centers, have already made up their minds to keep their babies, they just need assistance. So if abortion minded women aren’t going to pregnancy centers for help, where are they going?
Everyday in America these women go to abortion clinics. At these clinics they are sold abortions and told that there is no harm in it. They go in healthy pregnant women with bright futures ahead of them, only to leave wounded, maimed and forever changed. As the body of Christ we offer hope to these women, in the last moments before they reach the point of no return. If we as Christians do not reach these women at these places of death, who will? God emphatically commands us, in Proverbs 24:11 to, “Rescue those being led away to death.” How can we do this if we refuse to be at the places where people are dying?
With God’s help and provision we are successful in offering every woman we see hope and help in her situation. Countless babies lives have been saved and women have been spared a life of regret. As Christians aren’t we called to be salt and light, aren’t we called to “go” and make disciples? How can we do that if we continue to sit in pews and expect other Christians to do all of the “work?” Choose to be obedient and a blessing for life, get involved and join us. God wants to use you and these women and their babies need you!
  • October Newsletter 2011: “Meeting with the Governor & Two More Babies Born!”

Encouraging Meeting with Governor Susana Martinez
This month Bud and I along with Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, Director of Project Defending Life, met with Governor Susana Martinez to discuss the urgent abortion crisis in New Mexico. Last month’s newsletter mentioned how we obtained thirteen 911 calls, ten of which, came from the notorious late-term abortion clinic Southwestern Women’s Options. These ten calls were placed over a 30 month time span and reveal a troubling pattern of life threatening abortion complications. The reality is that on average every 10 weeks a woman is being rushed to the hospital as a result of serious injuries inflicted by local abortionists.
The other three 911 calls were placed from the University of New Mexico’s very own abortion clinic, the UNM Center for Reproductive Health. The University of New Mexico as well as UNM Hospital are publicly funded institutions receiving funds directly from New Mexico tax payers. Another troubling issue is that the University of New Mexico is also training resident students to do abortions at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion facility. The meeting with Governor Martinez addressed concerns raised by the 911 calls and also mixed messages that came from the New Mexico Medical Board.
Our concern is for the safety of women in New Mexico. We were encouraged to hear that Governor Martinez shares these same concerns. In fact, we were thoroughly impressed that the Governor’s office not only knew about the 911 calls, but had already contacted the Executive Director of the Medical Board to insure the investigation was progressing. We now have confidence that the New Mexico Medical Board is conducting a proper investigation. We were very thankful for the open line of communication with the Governor’s office. We feel confident that the Governor’s office will stay on top of pro-life life issues. Also present at the meeting were Senator Bill Sharer and Representative Dennis J. Roch.

    Two More Babies Born
In September two more precious children were born as a result of God’s power and presence at work in our lives. In the photo Tara is with baby Natalie who was born on the 28th. Tara met her mom outside of Boyd’s late term clinic. She had an appointment with heart doctors at the University of New Mexico Hospital and had gotten lost. Thankfully a friend of ours who also prays at the clinics with us took her to UNMH and stayed with her for her appointment. This mom who has health concerns was told right from the start that an abortion would likely be necessary to preserve her life. However, with love and encouragement as well as monetary help she carried her healthy baby girl to term. Please continue to pray for this mom and her baby.
The second baby born was to a woman who experienced a dramatic turn around outside of Boyd’s late term clinic. You may remember several month’s ago the article done by the NM Breeze titled, “Miracle Outside of a Late-Term Abortion Clinic.” Our presence is so vital out at abortion clinics! We must speak up compassionately and graciously offer the help necessary to save these precious lives. Because we are working with Project Defending Life, we were able to provide housing and other material necessities to this mom. She also attended many of our parenting classes and grew from her experiences at Project Defending Life. These precious lives are a testimony to the power of prayer and a public witness. Without these two crucial elements these babies may not be alive today. Thank you for helping us to save lives in Jesus’ name!
Exposing the “Landlord” of Late-Term Mill…Sandia Foundation
We also released documentation this month which shows that the Sandia Foundation acts as landlord for late-term abortion clinic, Southwestern Women’s Options; owned and operated by Curtis Boyd and his wife, Glenna Halvorson Boyd. The Sandia Foundation is a respected non-profit foundation based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with roots in the Catholic Church. They give money to Catholic Charities and various parishes in New Mexico. Also, Sandia board member Bernard “Gig” Brummell serves on the Archdiocese of Santa Fe Finance Council.
This documentation puts the Sandia Foundation squarely in the abortion business. They profit from the lease and therefore are enablers and collaborators in Boyd’s grisly late-term abortion business. Bernalillo County records show that Sandia owns the land at 522 Lomas Boulevard, Northeast, in Albuquerque, and continues to pay taxes on that property and some improvements. Curtis Boyd only pays property taxes for personal property located at that address. The document we released is an “Assignment and Assumption of Lease” signed by the Boyd’s and Sandia President and Chief Executive Officer Robert M. Goodman, who acts as “Landlord” for the Boyd’s abortion business.
Sandia Foundation was founded “to aid and assist educational, scientific, benevolent, religious and charitable institutions”, not to profit from the shedding of innocent blood though abortion. We urge Sandia Foundation to get out of the abortion business and return to the noble purpose that group was founded upon. We encourage those who have concerns about the Sandia Foundation’s involvement in profiting from dangerous, late-term abortions to contact them at gail@sandiafoundation.org, or call them at 505-242-2684. To read the documents released, go to: www.operationrescue.org/pdfs/sandia-boydleasedoc.pdf
    God Continues to Provide Opportunities!
This month the Albuquerque Journal newspaper covered the 911 calls and the investigation by the New Mexico Medical Board. Tara was also able to do several interviews with local radio stations. This month we held a seminar at Grace Outreach Center, Tara was a keynote speaker for the kickoff rally for 40 Days For Life, and Bud did a presentation for a local Catholic lay organization. God continues to provide opportunities for us to share how He is “moving mountains” here in Albuquerque, NM and opportunities for people to get involved.
  • September Newsletter 2011: God is “Moving Mountain’s!”

    One Step Closer-Update
In August we experienced more twists and turns with regard to our last newsletter. In July we obtained five 911 recordings that reveal the true nature of abortion and how it physically harms women. We also filed complaints with the NM Medical Board. With reference to the complaints we and Operation Rescue filed, initially we were told that the calls were going to be investigated. Then we received letters stating that we hadn’t provided enough information. The Board was insisting that we provide patient names and the doctors that were on duty during the times of the 911 calls. This information is impossible for us to obtain, in fact it’s not our job to be the investigators, that is why we contacted the Board.
Needless to say our month was full of phone calls back and forth to the Medical Board. The end result is that we believe the Executive Director of the Board was acting as an obstructionist due to her pro-abortion views. She made these views clear on a phone call with Cheryl Sullenger from Operation Rescue. The Board has now removed us from being (the complainants) and have placed the Board itself as the complainants. This means that the Board is held accountable to no one. They don’t have to tell us anything about the status of their supposed investigation or let us know when it’s closed. Please pray that these calls will not be swept under the rug and forgotten about at the Board. These abortionists must be held accountable for their actions and the truth needs to be revealed about what is really happening in these places of death.
We have since obtained eight more 911 recordings for a total of 13. Ten of these calls were placed from the notorious late term clinic here in Albuquerque, Southwestern Women’s Options. The other three call were placed from the University of New Mexico’s free standing abortion clinic. The injuries obtained at these clinics were: a uterine rup-ture with heavy bleeding, an 18-year old patient with chest pains, numbness, and a severe headache after a late-term abortion., a cervical laceration with hemorrhaging., uncontrolled bleeding after first and second trimester abortions, multiple seizures, as well as an abortion on a woman with an undiagnosed ectopic (tubal) pregnancy.
Clearly there is a serious problem here. On average every 10 weeks in Albuquerque another woman is injured as a result of having an abortion. This rate of what we call botched abortions should alarm the Medical Board and these abortionists licenses should be suspended until the investigation is complete. If this were any other doctor’s office or even a dentists office there would be no question about halting all operations at the particular facility. What we are seeing here is a strong pro-abortion bias at work, and sadly the abortionists are protected and women are thrown by the wayside.
Our next plan is to appeal to recently elected Pro-Life Governor Susana Martinez. We are going to ask her to personally oversee the investigation so that the Medical Board does have to answer to someone.
We know that this whole situation is grievous to the God we serve. Please join us in fervent prayer asking Him to ensure that a proper investigation into these calls be performed and that Governor Martinez will take these calls seri-ously as well and hold the Medical Board accountable.
On a side note- Tara was on a local news channel in August as a result of our Medical Board complaints. She was able to share the truth about the dangers of abortion and how it is directly affecting our community. We were thankful that the media picked up on the Medical Board investigation and that Tara was given a platform to speak. Tara was also invited to speak on a local Christian Radio station. This interview encompassed the 911 recordings, late term abortion in ABQ as well as an opportunity to appeal to abortion minded and post abortive women. We praise God for these times to share the truth with the “masses.” Please pray for more opportunities to speak up for the pre-born.
    Informant Tells of Abortion Death
A confidential informant came forward and told us that a woman died from abortion-related injuries at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health last month. The informant spoke several times with Tara and expressed concern about the death. According to the informant, an emergency vehicle picked up the body and transported it to an unknown location. Clinic workers who were visibly upset and shaken at the time of the incident were told not to discuss the situation with anyone. Other details provided by the informant gave credibility to the story.
We have met with the Albuquerque Police Department to give them this information. At this point it doesn’t look like APD is going to probe very far into this investigation without more information. Please pray that God gives us more proof of this woman’s death. Each day women’s lives are being put at risk each time they set foot into these clinics.
    Flagstaff, Arizona is Abortion-Free
During our time in Flagstaff, God opened our eyes to the reality of one of the greatest injustices in American history…abortion. Our prayer for Flagstaff was that it would become abortion free. This past month that prayer became a reality as the Planned Parenthood clinic stopped doing abortions.
We began our outreach in Flagstaff covered in prayer. We had a peaceful, prayerful and public presence every hour of every day that abortions were performed. We prayed individually and collectively with others, at home and in public. About a year after we began this ministry God called us to full time pro-life work. We entrusted our work to a faithful servant, Johnny Wallace who then maintained a peaceful prayerful presence.
Putting the death knell to abortion in Flagstaff required faith, prayer, boldness, knowledge, love, and dedication. We must pray big, serve and love unconditionally, reach out intentionally, and expect to see God “Move Mountains.” With faith all that is possible, is possible when God is in it. Our prayer is that with your faith in action, God will move the mountains of injustice in your communities, too.
    Assault Update
On August 3oth Bud appeared in court with a locally retained lawyer to see what would come of the woman who assaulted him in July. Unfortunately, she only received a slap on the wrist and will not be fully held accountable for her actions. We understand that justice isn’t always served in this life and we’re ok with that. Our prayer continues to be that this woman will find healing through Christ and that others like her will refrain from taking their guilt and shame out on us. Please make this your prayer as well.
  • August Newsletter 2011: ABQ is One Step Closer…

    One Step Closer…
We are continually amazed how God is moving and working here in Albuquerque. He continues to provide opportunities to speak with and minister to women outside of the abortion clinics here. We also continue to be encouraged by how many volunteers continue to pray with us on a weekly basis and how new volunteers are getting involved in many different ways each month.
At the end of last month’s newsletter we stated that we wanted to share with you one of our biggest accomplishments since we arrived here one year ago. Our ministry has many different facets, especially since there is so much to do. With four abortion clinics, one performing abortions through all nine months and a state funded University that has a free standing clinic that trains medical students to perform abortions, we have our work cut out for us.
We realize the need and urgency to be at the clinics to reach out to the women going in. It’s also vitally important to provide resources to these women in order to help them, which PDL does so well. However, we must also work to close down these clinics following God’s strategy. Time and time again throughout the nation clinics have been closed down because the public and the Medical Boards have been forced to see, examine, and take direct action to what really happens behind closed doors in these clinics.
In order to expose the truth, Bud and I obtained five 911 recordings. A friend of ours saw an ambulance at the UNM clinics back in February, and that is what prompted us to request the tapes. 911 tapes are public record and available to any member of the public, One call was made from the University of New Mexico abortion clinic and the other four were made from Curtis Boyd’s late term clinic. All five calls were made within a 15 month time period. We know that abortions are never safe for the babies and each tape that we obtained provided documented proof that abortions are not “safe” for women either.
Videos of the calls were created by Operation Rescue and sent to the nationwide media outlets by OR and PDL in order to educate the general public. We also filed complaints with the NM Medical Board and have sent the audio files to the NM Governor Susanna Martinez. You can listen to all of the calls here: http://www.operationrescue.org/archives/five-911-calls-expose-crisis-of-life-threatening-abortion-injuries-in-albuquerque/
The women in the calls were near death as a result of 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester abortion procedures. One woman was turning gray and not breathing normally, three others were experiencing heavy hemorrhages due to a perforated uterus and one woman had a ruptured uterus during a late term abortion. Clearly abortion is not safe and continues to hurt women across the nation everyday. We must get this information out so that women will think twice about trusting these abortionists with their lives, and so these clinics will be shut down
     .
The big news this month: Albuquerque is one step closer to becoming abortion free! Please pray regarding these efforts and that the Governor and the NM Medical Board will take direct action to close down these clinics. To God be the Glory!
    A Glimpse of American Persecution
Each day as we stand for life, we stand for much more than simply the life of the precious child. Most of the focus regarding abortion is directed to the child and rightfully so. The child is most imminently affected by abortion. However, as we mentioned earlier in this newsletter, women’s lives are also placed in jeopardy due to the high risks of abortion complications.
While Pro-Choice/Abortion women dogmatically defend the right to abortion, most of them know firsthand the guilt and shame they carry in their own conscience after their abortion. These post-abortive women are the most hostile to any pro-life outreach, because their choice is exposed for all to see and openly confronted. While we reach out with grace and com-passion, these post-abortive women respond with anger and at times even violence.
I (Bud) was attacked this month outside of the late term clinic by such a woman. She punched and kicked me and another sidewalk counselor. She left a significant gash in my head from her keys. As bad as the incident was, it could have been much worse. God is definitely in control and He is our refuge and protector. Our only concern is for this woman, that she will receive the help and healing she desperately needs. The result of an abortion is deadly for children, devastating for women, and as I learned firsthand this month, often taken out on peaceful sidewalk counselors. How much more should we love these women to Christ and daily stand in the gap on their behalf? If you live in Albuquerque or the surrounding areas please consider joining us in this life saving and life changing ministry.

Watch news coverage of the assault here: Pro-life activist attacked outside abortion clinic  also, read more about the assault here and watch the violent beating here: Abortion Supporter Bloodies Peaceful Pro-Life Activist in Violent Beating.

    Strength in Numbers
In July we added two more opportunities for the pro-life community to be a witness for life. The first and third Friday evenings from 4:30-5:30 we held rallies outside the UNM and late term clinic. We had about 25 people join us at each rally. This presence is perfect for the rush hour traffic to see the truth about abortion and that we are resolved to peacefully see abortion end here. Through prayer, outreach and exposing the truth, abortion will end here and across the nation.

    Q & A Time at Legacy
    Another Child is Born!
God continues to heap blessing upon blessing on our efforts here in New Mexico. Each month comes with trials, yes, but the blessings and favor of God outweigh them by far. On June 3rd Maribella was born. We met her mom Jen* several months ago by divine providence. You may remember the miraculous story of how another one of our moms (Tina*) brought Jen in to PDL. Tina and her son Candido were featured in our newsletter a couple of months back.
Jen* had an appointment at the Planned Parenthood (PP) next to PDL on the day we met her. Her baby was about 6 weeks old. She pulled her car into our parking lot and there she met Tina and asked where PP was. Tina asked her what she needed and asked her to come in and talk to myself and another volunteer. Jen felt the same way a lot of the moms we work with feel. She didn’t think the timing was right and her boyfriend didn’t want another child and was pushing hard for the abortion. Jen knew though, that she wanted her baby, she just didn’t know how it would all work out. What she needed at the end of the day was encouragement and to hear that she could have her baby and everything would work itself out.
Thankfully, about 4 weeks after we met her she came back to PDL for an ultrasound! I was so excited to see her again, because you often aren’t sure if the mom will come back. At the very first glimpse of her baby all she could say was, “that’s my child”. It was a beautiful day. Since that time Jen moved back to CO to be with her mom and pursue a college degree. Needless to say, Maribella is the love of her life. Glory be to God!
Speaking the Truth, in and out of Season
Tara & I had a presentation at Legacy Church (one of the larger churches in ABQ). We shared a biblical context for the need of the Christian community to reach out to abortion minded couples; to restore justice and minister to the oppressed from John 15:1-8 & Isa.5: 1-7.We also shared about late-term abortion clinic in ABQ and ways to get involved. Many in the audience were surprised by what they heard but also eager to help. We ended the presentation with a Questions & Answers session. It was a blessing to inform even more Christians about the reality of injustice not in some foreign, distant land, but in our own community.
A second presentation we did was on an Indian reservation about 45 minutes from ABQ. Our presence was in collaboration with our friends Manny and Grace. They organized a weekend outreach that included other speakers, free lunches, ac-tivities for kids, and gospel presentations. For a first time event, it went great. Their vision was that if even one person receives Christ and their life is changed as a result of the weekend, it is worth it. We couldn’t agree more! We as Christians should always have that  mentality as we live our lives for Christ.
Tears of doubt, fear, and despair turned into tears of joy!
There were 4 turn-arounds and two babies saved this month at the late-term clinic. We consider turn-arounds to be when women leave the clinic after speaking with us. Saves are when a woman actually tells us that she is choosing life instead of abortion. One couple had come from Arizona. They went inside the clinic but came right back out and left. As they were leaving they took information from us. The woman burst into tears, and ex-pressed her thanks for our presence and help.
A family pulled up in a large vehicle but didn’t get out. In order to enter the late-term abortion clinic everyone has to pass by several strategically placed signs showing the graphic truth about abortion, pictures of live babies (both inside and outside of the womb), several life affirming word signs, and people in prayer (the most important witness and spiritual component) . No doubt this family was taking in all of this. After 20 minutes they decided to leave. I waved them over and held up some literature. They pulled up and I was able to speak with them and direct them to Project Defending Life. They wouldn’t tell me why they were there, but they were appreciative for the help.

Another woman chose life for her baby simply because of our presence at the late term clinic here. She walked into the clinic after seeing our signs and after hearing our words of compassion. She came right back out of the clinic in tears, the holy spirit had convicted her. She shared with us, “Going into that clinic was against my very nature because I am a Christian. However, my family and boyfriend were pressuring me to have the abortion.” Knowing that our presence was used by the holy spirit to convict her solidifies what we already know about being present at these clinics. It saves lives! Praise God, his spirit is moving powerfully here in ABQ!

On another day a taxi drove up and dropped off a young girl. I waved to her and asked her to come and speak with me. She came over and I politely asked her why she was there. She told me she had come from Alamogordo, NM (200 miles) for information from the clinic. I give her life affirming information that we had and told her all the ways we could help her at Project Defending Life. She said she was 18, a Christian, and the mother of 2 children. I told her that if she was currently pregnant that she was actually the mother of 3 children. She started to cry and told me she felt alone, and didn’t know what to do. She was going through a lot back home. I prayed with her, and pleaded with her to let us help her. I told her all the risks of abortion and as much information as I could. She said that she needed to get inside. I told her that we would be there for 45 more minutes if she changed her mind.
She went inside and we continued to pray for her. As I was packing up all my signs, she called out and came over to talk with me just as I was about to leave. She confided with me that she was in fact there for an abortion, but that she had changed her mind. She wanted to give me a hug. She was so thankful for the life affirming support and she started to cry again, but this time it was tears of joy. To God be the glory, it is his spirit that convicts of sin righteousness and judgment (John 16:8).
Reflecting on Our First Year in ABQ
God has done some amazing things in our lives and in this city since we moved here last June. We have been so blessed to have Tara’s nephew Charlie come live with us. We’ve also been blessed with some really great friends. Next month’s newsletter will be more about our big accomplishment of the year but for now we want to consider that Albuquerque, NM is truly the Late-Term abortion capital of at least the U.S.A, and quite possibly North America. This month a family came from Mexico. Through the course of the year we have seen cars from Arizona, Texas, Colorado, Utah, California, Kansas, Idaho, Iowa, Ohio, Missouri, Montana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, New York, and I have spoke with women who came from Hawaii and Canada. Please keep our work in prayer and may God use us to help women choose life that come here from all over North America.
  • June Newsletter 2011: The Mom’s We Serve…Our Heroes

In May we were blessed to see 2 more babies born. You may remember the testimony from several months ago regarding a baby that was saved via text messaging. Tara received a call from a woman whose grand-son’s girlfriend was going to Planned Parenthood for an abortion. We will call her Jane and she was literally on her way to the clinic, and all that Tara was given was the Jane’s stepmothers cell number. Needless to say we were on high alert trying to contact Jane with many obstacles in the way. Eventually Tara was given the Jane’s cell number and began texting her.

Thankfully, Tara earned Jane’s trust after only a few texts and realized that she wanted to help. Tara was able to text her a picture of a 6 week old preborn baby and encourage Jane to ask to see her ultrasound. Ultimately it became clear that Jane’s parents were coercing her into having the abortion. Jane asked about adoption and wanted to leave the clinic but felt trapped. Heroically Jane left the clinic and chose life for her baby. One week after baby Manuel’s birth she graduated from high school. Manuel is the love of her life and we are so happy for her. What Jane needed was love and support from her family but when families won’t provide these things we will. Jane is a true hero and proof that young girls can choose life while continuing their own.

Baby Lillianna was actually born premature on April 3rd. She stayed in the hospital for several weeks before we got to meet her. Her mom Allison* came to us homeless and addicted to heroin. During the first part of Allison’s pregnancy we helped her with housing, food and transportation. One day we didn’t hear from her anymore. We didn’t know what happened to her or where she went she just stopped contacting us. We entrusted her and the baby to God hopeful we would one day meet again. God did take care of her and brought her back to us shortly before Lillianna was released from the hospital. She is clean and sober now, trying to do what is best for her daughter. Praises belong to God as we witness another woman facing adversity choose life.

    Church Outside the Box
One thing that has amazed me doing outreach at abortion clinics, is the people you meet that are just passing by. Like any other ministry, when you take a step of faith and place yourself where God’s Spirit is moving, God will place you in the path of people desperately seeking Him and in need. Ministry outside an abortion clinic is so much more than dealing with abortion minded couples, it is about ministering to anyone in need. I have learned to take the church to the sidewalk and worship with our lives as living sacrifices, not just one day a week in a building, but everyday with the people that cross our paths.
This month, having a presence at the clinics provided opportunities to pray, serve, encourage, restore, and weep with people having nothing to do with abortion. God just knew our schedules, our hearts, and provided divine appointments on a sidewalk and the church without walls was lived out. One of the people I met was a girl who was struggling with addiction. She had been clean for the longest time in her life, but she wasn’t sure she could maintain her sobriety. She stated that she was a “back-slidden” Christian, and that she just didn’t feel comfortable in the “church scene.” One of our volunteers asked her if we could pray for her and if she was willing to be restored to Christ. The young woman said yes with all of her heart. We prayed and she stated that she knew God had placed us in her path and that she now had the strength from God to persevere. I encouraged her with 1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” I told her our Christian walk will not be a sinless one, but each time we fall and get back up it means we are still on the path. We just need to trust that Jesus’ blood is sufficient.
Another person I met on the sidewalk was a man who struggled with addiction as well. He had neurological issues and had been told he would never walk again. He walked with a limp, but he was walking. He said each day was a blessing and he was opening up to the possibility of the existence of God. I encouraged him and told him how much God loves him and that his life has tremendous purpose. I told him that God was waiting for him with open arms and encouraged him to seek God with all his heart in order to find Him. He came back to see me a week later and told me that he went to church for the first time that Sunday and felt right at home for the first time in his life.
Yet another person we met, was actually drawn to us while I was praying with a volunteer for the end of abortion in our community, New Mexico, the country and the world. He asked if he could use a cell phone to call his mom. He had just gotten off the bus from jail and needed his mom to pick him up. The woman I was praying with offered to drive him to his mothers house. He gratefully accepted. The next time we spoke, the woman shared that she prayed with the young man and invited him to church. That Sunday he partook of communion for the second time, his first time was in jail. She also bought him new clothes and he was very grateful.
The last story I want to share from this month involved a couple I spoke with as they were entering the late-term abortion clinic. The young girl turned and looked at me but continued inside. The young man (holding his three year old son) came over to talk with me. As soon as he walked over, I immediately recognized him from a few months back. At that time he told me he wasn’t there for himself, but that he had come with his sister. He assured me at that time that he and his girlfriend had a son, they were Christians and that they wouldn’t consider abortion for themselves but his sister insisted on an abortion.
What a difference a few months makes. This time he told me they were too young to have another child and didn’t have enough money to raise another child. We spoke for several minutes and I shared all the resources available to them. I also spoke with him about his Christian faith. I encouraged him as a father and told him to be strong for his family. He took our information and we prayed with him. After only 10 minutes in the clinic his girlfriend came back out and they left. I pray that God waters the seeds He used me to plant and that they make the right choice.
It doesn’t matter if you live in Albuquerque, New Mexico…Church you can join us this week, all week, for service and worship on the sidewalk outside of the abortion clinic in your community. Expect to meet Jesus there and expect some divine appointments.
…and those were only a few of the stories from church service this month! We’re excited to hear about your stories.
  • May Newsletter 2011: Nothing is insignificant…when you step out in faith.

The hardest thing each day at the abortion clinic is when it’s time to leave. However, one day as I was gathering up all the signs, I was helped by a woman who had come to pray. She picked up some of the signs to bring them to the truck just as a car was pulling up to Boyd’s. The woman coming to the clinic caught a glimpse of one of the signs the volunteer was holding. The image stopped her in her tracks and immediately brought conviction. The next sign she saw was the reality of abortion and she covered her mouth and gasped. In an instant she changed her mind about going into Boyd’s abortion clinic. She realized we were there to offer help, but she didn’t speak English. We used signals and gestures to ask her how old her baby was and her friend responded by saying that the baby was 5 months old. We gave her Spanish literature and then with broken Spanish asked if her friend would follow one of us to Project Defending Life. The friend shook her head yes and another volunteer escorted them to PDL for help. A picture has the power to bridge the gap between life and death; it can speak volumes and transcend language barriers. Nothing is insignificant when you step out in faith. God can even use you as you are leaving to help save a life!

This month at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health, a van parked fairly close to where Bud and others were praying. We asked those inside if we could pray for them and they said yes. A couple and a young woman came over. After we prayed one of the women went into the clinic. The woman’s sister and her boyfriend stayed and spoke further with us. We were told that the young woman was abortion minded. They had tried everything to talk her out of having an abortion. We gave them some literature with local life saving resources. We asked the sister to go inside the clinic and show her sister the information, and she did.
A few minutes later she came back out and said that her sister wasn’t interested in receiving help. The couple said they couldn’t wait around and left. Several minutes later the young woman came out of the clinic . She pulled out a cell phone and called her sister. A few minutes later the van showed back up and they left the clinic. Praise God, prayer and persistence helped save a life!

    Storming the Gates of Heaven

Our family participated in the Jericho Walk this month. The Jericho walk is the largest pro-life event in New Mexico which represents the Old Testament story of Joshua marching around the city of Jericho 7 times with the walls tumbling down after. We marched around Planned Parenthood 7 times while praying for an end to abortion in ABQ. Bud also had the honor of speaking at this event. He was able to share about how ABQ has become the Late-Term abortion capital of the U.S. and the opportunities available to reach out and serve women, families, and children in need. Prayerful, public, and peaceful events like this are the key to ending abortion in New Mexico, the U.S and the world! Pray that more church leaders will catch the vision for Life and host events like this in your community.

    Presentations in April

This month we were blessed to speak to 2 different groups about our ministry and how others can get involved. We were invited to the Rio Rancho, NM Right to Life Chapter meeting. It is so vital for all members of the pro-life community to have the same knowledge about what is taking place in our communities. We pray that this group was encouraged by what we are accomplishing (by God’s grace) and will continue doing the great work of NMRTL.

Tara also spoke at a ladies Bible study. She was able to answer some of the tough questions people have about abortion. Hopefully she will be able to visit the group again and encourage the women to become involved. We cherish each opportunity to share the truth because we know that when people know what is happening it’s difficult to continue to ignore it.

    Exciting News!

This month during 40 Days For Life, God provided an opportunity for us to lease another PDL location right across the street from the UNM Center for Reproductive Health! Project Defending Life will now have two locations next to two different abortion clinics in Albuquerque, NM. Praise God! The new location will open May 1st. It is so important to have a continuous presence at our local abortion clinics and it is just as important to have life affirming help and resources to offer these women and couples in need. It is even that much more effective having a place to send them for help and an ultrasound just a few feet away! We know many babies will be saved and women helped through this new PDL location!

  • April Newsletter 2011: Changing Lives, One Life at a Time

    Cayden Josiah born in March.

    John 15:5: Bear Much Fruit

This month we have begun to see the fruit of our labor working here in Albuquerque. Three babies have been born as a direct result of our efforts in reaching out at the late term abortion facility and Planned Parenthood. One of these mom’s was homeless and unsure of her future when we met her. Thankfully she was able to move right into PDL’s maternity home. She now has a beautiful baby boy and is almost finished with a dental assistant certification program that she began after she moved into the maternity home.

Another mom’s father was pressuring her to abort at 16 weeks. She was able to receive help and support from PDL and she is currently not living with her father but with supportive family and her baby boy in California. The third mom had been dropped off 5 times by her abusive boyfriend for an abortion and finally when Bud reached out to her at Boyd’s Late-Term clinic she hurried over to him and only had one question for him; it was, “Do you have a place for me to stay …tonight?” Bud responded with “Yes, as a matter of fact we do.” She was able to stay at PDL’s maternity home as well. She now has a beautiful baby girl.

Neither one of these women had life affirming support before they met us at the clinic. It is such a reward to see these little lives that have the potential to change the world with their very own life saving testimonies. We are simply thankful to be used on a daily basis for God’s service. When we consider all of the victories we are seeing, we are even more amazed at what must be happening that we are unable to see. We continue to trust God, that he is moving in powerful ways.

Changing Lives, One at a Time

One Tuesday this month was truly a day of God’s providence. Outside of Boyd’s late term facility a woman walked up on her phone. She hadn’t come from the clinic, but it wasn’t clear where she was going. She just stood there on the phone. I decided to approach her to see if we could help. She explained that she had an appointment but was lost. I asked what the appointment was for and where she was from. She had come 230 miles to see a Doctor regarding her heart murmur and high blood pressure. As I tried to help her find out where she needed to be, I felt God tugging at my heart to find out more about her. I offered to take her where she needed to go and then she asked me if we were with a church group. I explained to her that our ministry was to help pregnant mom’s and that yes we were Christians. It seemed natural to then ask her if she was pregnant. She said yes!

We then found out that her doctor back home is concerned about her high blood pressure and had sent her to ABQ’s abortion hospital for a consult and testing. Her doctor had already planted the possibility of an abortion being a necessity for her situation. She was very concerned because she wants her baby. I was able to counsel her and encourage as I knew she was headed for the wolves at UNM. Thanks be to God that a volunteer who had come to pray at the clinic today was willing to take her to her appointment so that I could stay at the clinic. The woman had an exam at the hospital where abortion again was mentioned. She was then admitted to the hospital to undergo tests. Graciously the volunteer who brought her to the hospital stayed with her until she was admitted, bought her lunch and bought her clothes and toiletries for her stay. What a powerful testimony of what God can do when His people work together! I spent the rest of the day seeking out pro-life physicians to be involved with this woman’s case and to be a voice for life amidst the darkness at UNM.

That evening I called the woman in her room at the hospital. She has such a sweet spirit, full of gratitude and optimism. Thanks be to God that up to this point of the day all of her tests have been with good results. I asked her if she needed any-thing for the following day because I planned to go visit and encourage her. All she asked for was a Bible study! Praise be to God! I am so amazed that in her difficult situation so far away from home that the one thing she wants is to seek God through His word.

She ended up staying in the hospital for 4 nights and was then released. The last test the doctors performed was a heart catheter, and we really believed that whatever was wrong with her heart would lead the doctors to again recommend abortion. Thankfully her heart was not as bad as they thought! God can work miracles! She is scheduled to come back to ABQ at least once a month for continued monitoring and testing. Please continue to pray for her and her baby!

As Bud and several other people were praying out at Boyd’s late-term abortion clinic, a car pulled up and two women got out of the car. One of the women was obviously pregnant, the other one just looked con-fused as Bud offered help and hope. They went into the clinic, and several minutes later, the driver (who looked confused) came back out and began speaking with one of our sidewalk counselors. They spoke for several minutes and then the pregnant mom came out of the clinic and her sister called her over to talk with the counselor as well. After a few minutes they called Bud over to explain all the ways that Project Defending Life could help her.

Bud spoke with the pregnant mom and explained how dangerous the late-term procedure was and that several women had in fact died as a result. The mom was adamant that she did not want our help because she is addicted to alcohol and unwilling to quit drinking. We pleaded with her to at least go to PDL and that she had nothing to lose by sitting down with someone who can help her. She wasn’t interested and walked back into the abortion clinic. We could really sense the spiritual battle that was taking place.

Her sister then broke down crying and told us that she had no idea that this was an abortion clinic. She was under the impression that they were going there for a pregnancy test and ultrasound. She was appalled when she went inside and the staff was explaining the late-term procedure and how they would give an injection into the baby’s heart today and it would die and then it would take three to four days to complete the abortion. She ran out and did not want to go back in. She asked her pregnant sister how she knew about this place and she told her that their mom (who now is in jail) had taken her 6 months ago for a previous abortion. She said that her sister is homeless and in an abusive relationship. The family has tried to help her get off drugs but nothing has worked. I asked if we could pray for her and she said yes.

A few minutes later, her sister came back out of the abortion clinic and said that she was interested in what we had to offer, and she also said she was going to cut back on her alcohol use. Another sidewalk counselor took them both over to Project Defending Life and she is receiving help. Only God knows what would have happened if someone wasn’t there to offer help. Currently the pregnant mom has met with Laura, PDL’s Mom’s Ministry leader. Laura has gotten her some things that she needs and has even met with the moms boyfriend. We are now looking forward to meeting her baby in the next couple of months! Glory be to God!

A woman came to Boyd’s Late-Term abortion clinic for the first time to join 40 Days For Life. The first person she talked to just so happened to be her son who drove by and was surprised to see his mom holding a sign stating: “Jesus Forgives and Heals.” The next sign he and his girlfriend saw, was the reality of abortion. They both break down and confide with her that they had an abortion. She was able to share the grace and love of Jesus with them. The life saved out at an abortion clinic may be your son or daughter…for eternity.

Making the Most of Every Opportunity!

God continues to provide opportunities for us to share our work and encourage others to get involved. We were both asked to testify in Santa Fe regarding a parental notification bill that was being introduced. Bud also spoke to 2 different groups of men about abortion in Albuquerque and how to get involved. He had several interviews on three local Christian radio stations about 40 Days for Life and our ministry.

40 Days for Life is still going on and in Albuquerque there have been at least 8 babies saved and over 400 volunteers have taken part in this campaign. God is moving in Albuquerque and we can’t wait to see what He is going to do through the efforts of His faithful servants.

Thank you everyone who is lifting our ministry up in prayer. God continues to be faithfully protecting, providing and blessing our efforts. Thank you as well to all of our financial partners. Our work here is impossible without your help. Thankfully, each month we are getting closer to our ultimate monthly goal. Please let us know how we can pray for you!

The most powerful and effective tool we have in ending abortion is prayer. Individual prayer and group prayer, prayer at home and prayer at the clinic. We need prayer warriors to cover Boyd’s clinic! If you are anywhere near ABQ please come and pray where the killing is taking place. Like Ephesians 6:12 says” For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”…. so join us in this spiritual battle for the lives of these babies and the souls of their Mother

Tara and I met at a Bible College in Texas where God gave us a heart for the mission field. Tara spent a year in Nottingham, England and I (Bud) was ordained and graduated in 2003 with a degree in Missions. I spent an additional 6 moths in an Advanced Missions program where my concentration was on “domestic” missions. Tara and I married shortly after Tara returned from England and since then we have worked in full-time pastoral ministry, traveled the country for a year with Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust visiting over 180 high schools and colleges across the country educating our peers about the injustice of abortion, and spent a year in Wichita, Kansas as interns for Operation Rescue (OR) where we learned the most effective and proven strategies for ending abortion! After our year as interns for OR our mission field became Albuquerque, New Mexico due to the fact that our research revealed that it was…the Abortion Capital of the Southwest and the Late-Term Abortion Capital of America.

We moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2010 (by invitation of Fr. Imbarrato, Founder and former Director of Project Defending Life) to expose and fight the radical abortion agenda entrenched in this state. As Pro-Life missionaries, we have redefined the “American Mission Field” by moving to Albuquerque one of the darkest cities in our country, a city WORLD Magazine labeled, “New Mexico’s city of death” to proclaim the power of the risen savior, Jesus Christ, and end Abortion…our generation’s greatest injustice!

Our tireless work, groundbreaking research, and implementation of proven strategies has launched Albuquerque, New Mexico into the national spotlight!

Top Ten Victories of 2011:  #3 New Mexico Abortion Cartel Exposed

After the closure of the late-term abortion clinic in Wichita, KS, Operation Rescue learned that two of the abortionists from the Kansas clinic were relocating to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Two of our interns, Bud and Tara Shaver, felt the call of God to move to Albuquerque and work to stop abortions there. The Shavers now work with Project Defending Life, a group that works in cooperation with Operation Rescue to expose abortion abuses in New Mexico.

Together, the groups uncovered and exposed a series of 911 calls that were evidence of life-threatening abortion complications at two Albuquerque abortion clinics. Complaints were filed with the Medical Board and the investigation into these unsafe clinics is progressing. In addition, the role of the University of New Mexico in the abortion industry has been fully documented, and efforts are underway to convince the UNM Regents to cease all participation in abortion and abortion training.

Year in Review: Top Ten Victories from 2012

Shelley Sella, faced a disciplinary hearing before the New Mexico Medical Board in November for gross negligence in a 35 week abortion where Sella overused uterine contracting drugs on a woman with a history of a previous Caesarian Section, resulting in a ruptured uterus. Sella faces possible license revocation. The injury was discovered when former OR intern Tara Shaver obtained the 911 call records. OR and Mrs. Shaver filed complaints resulting in the Board action.

2013:  Bud and Tara Shaver Named Operation Rescue’s 2013 Pro-Life Persons of the Year

Albuquerque, NM – Pro-life missionaries Bud and Tara Shaver, of Project Defending Life in Albuquerque, New Mexico, have been named as recipients of the 2013 Pro-life Person of the Year Malachi Award in recognition of their outstanding work in bringing the matter of late-term abortions into the national spotlight.

After an internship with Operation Rescue, the Shavers moved to Albuquerque in 2010 to expose late-term abortions at Southwestern Women’s Options, one of the few abortion clinics in the nation that openly conduct abortions throughout the full nine months of pregnancy.

Tara’s ground-breaking research documented evidence of numerous life-threatening abortion emergencies and other abuses at that late-term abortion facility. She also uncovered that state taxpayers are forced to foot the bill for late-term procedures at the cost of thousands of dollars each.

Information gathered by the Shavers became the basis of a citizen’s petition to amend the City of Albuquerque’s charter to ban abortions after 20 weeks gestation, when babies are known to feel pain. That initiative was the first-ever attempt to ban an abortion procedure at the municipal level. Tara and Bud Shaver spearheaded a grass roots signature drive that garnered a record 27,000 in just 20 days to place the late-term abortion ban on the ballot, then established a Political Action Committee that campaigned in favor of it.

While the Albuquerque Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance failed to pass during a November 19 city-wide vote, the Shavers, who served as national media spokespersons for the effort, contributed significantly to an increased awareness of late-term abortions in New Mexico an across the nation.

The Malachi Award is given by Operation Rescue every year to recognize individuals who sacrificially work to advance the cause of protecting the pre-born.

2014: Group launches new anti-abortion campaign (KOB Eyewitness News 4): Protest ABQ www.protestABQ.com

“As we move forward in Albuquerque, we realize that abortion will end in our city and state, when hearts are touched and minds are changed concerning the killing of the most innocent and defenseless children in our state, those in the womb. PROTEST ABQ is a way to raise this public awareness. If we accomplish nothing else, we must succeed in protesting the evil of our generation…legalized child killing,” stated Bud Shaver, Executive Director at PROTEST ABQ.
