New Mexico Forces Tax Payers to Fund 1,786 Abortions in 2011
By Tara Shaver, Project Defending Life The State of New Mexico has one of the highest poverty rates. Money that could go to alleviate poverty has instead been dished out to abortion providers to the tune of over 1.1 million state tax dollars in 2011 to fund abortions through Medicaid. Medicaid first began to cover abortion services in 1976, but only for cases when the life of the mother was endangered, as per the Federal Hyde Amendment. In 1977, the Hyde Amendment wording was changed to allow federal funding for abortions to also include cases of rape or incest in addition to life endangerment of the mother. In New Mexico,…

Let’s End Abortion As We FulFill The Great Commission!
By Bud Shaver (This article originally appeared on Standforlife.net) I am coming up on 5 years of full-time Pro-Life ministry, during this time reaching out to Church leaders, Pastors, and the Christian community in general…Christian’s for the most part think that you have to choose between fulfilling the “Great Commission” and doing anything remotely effective in engaging the abortion injustice in America. Resulting in Church budgets and resources maxed out to fulfill the “Great Commission” overseas…while neglecting to deal with the abortion Holocaust in their own communities! While we can say that we have done a great job fulfilling the “Great Commission” overseas, we have to be honest and realize…

May 2012 Newsletter: We Saw Mountains Move!
On UNM Campus with Survivors! The Survivors Campus Life Tour visited ABQ and brought their displays out to UNM. It was great being at a college campus again (We spent our 1st year of pro-life ministry with Survivors and visited over 180 schools!), however, the students at UNM can be very aggressive. A male student even pushed over one of the displays, but some really nice Muslim girls rushed over to help put it back together and stayed and talked for quite a while. This gave us an opportunity to speak with students we may never have been able to connect with otherwise. The best thing I heard a passerby say…

“Massive Pro-Life Event At Calvary Chapel With ‘180’ And Ray Comfort”
By Monte Harms of Stand For Life On Wednesday night, April 4th, there was a packed house of several thousand at Calvary Chapel in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who watched the incredible movie “180” and an interview with its creator Ray Comfort. A table was set up for a new ministry at Calvary called 9 months, Pro-Life Movement, which was founded by Pastor Eric Lamb. The plan is to have pro-life educational classes, rallies, and other activities that include not just a few, but thousands involved. Other tables were set up for 40 Days for Life, an adoption organization called Aspen Project, and for CareNet. Watch the entire service with the…

Another day in our lives… One morning this month I got ready to head over to the Late-Term abortion mill SWO…as Tara was finishing up a research project she has been doing regarding possible abortions in Santa Fe [she confirmed that the Planned Parenthood (PP) in Santa Fe just got a nurse practitioner willing to administer the RU-486 medical abortions…which means that PP in Santa Fe is doing abortions up to 9wks:[ She was finishing that up so she could give a report to Fr. Brennan and then head over to the PDL pregnancy center across from the UNM abortion mill to give free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and other assistance…

June Newsletter: Overcoming the Darkness with Light…In Season!
Picking up Momentum The past couple of months have been productive, but at the same time we’ve kind of felt like things have slowed down with our ministry. One thing that is so evident…and that we continue to hear from people who live here, is the presence of a demonic strong hold. In more ways than one darkness is constantly trying to overtake the light here in ABQ. Thankfully, as the spiritual forces of darkness are at work, the God we serve works harder! His power and presence was magnified this month and we give him all the glory and honor for what He is doing here. Please commit to…

Revocation Proceedings Reveal New Mexico Abortionists Did Illegal Late-Term Abortions in Kansas
By Tara Shaver, Project Defending Life Albuquerque, NM — In light of the recent revocation of abortionist Ann Kristin Neuhaus’s medical license by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts (KSBHA), Project Defending Life is renewing its request for the New Mexico Medical Board to investigate recent botched abortions in Albuquerque. Neuhaus’ medical license revocation was the direct result of a complaint first filed by Operation Rescue Senior Policy Advisor Cheryl Sullenger in 2006, alleging violations of the standards of patient care and a Kansas law that allowed only narrow exceptions to a ban on post-viability abortions. In Kansas, Neuhaus provided the required second consenting opinion that the continuation of a…

Injury-Prone New Mexico Abortion Clinics Operate In Shadows of Regulatory Gaps
By Cheryl Sullenger Albuquerque, New Mexico – A shocking number of medical emergencies at two Albuquerque abortion clinics over the past few months have raised questions about clinic safety and who is responsible for oversight. After months of investigation, pro-life groups have determined that abortion clinics often operate in regulatory gaps and actively seek to “fly under the radar,” as one regulator put it. This has created a public safety crisis in New Mexico. A total of 14 calls for emergency medical assistance were placed to 911 dispatchers by Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO) and the University of New Mexico Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) over a 35-month time frame between…

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Deuteronomy 30:19-20 New Mexico Abortionist Quits For the Sake of His “Sanity” “Abortion is not good for anyone, not for babies, not for women, and according to Bruce Ferguson, someone who would know, abortion is not good for the doctors performing them. New Mexico Abortionist Quits For the Sake of His “Sanity”
Albuquerque, NM- Project Defending Life has confirmed that abortionist Bruce Ferguson is retiring on December 30th, 2011, and will no longer be performing abortions. His Albuquerque abortion clinic will also close. According to his website, he has been performing abortions for 30 years. In a phone call, Ferguson told an undercover investigator that he was retiring due to his health, his family, and his own “sanity.” He stated, “Someone else needs to carry the burden now.” Ferguson also mentioned as a reason for his retirement a steady decline in abortion patients each year, which is a trend that is being seen nationally. Project Defending Life and Operation Rescue have been…

Members of Project Defending Life Present Concerns at UNM Board of Regents Meeting
On December 13, 2011 Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, Director of Project Defending Life and Tara Shaver, also with Project Defending Life along with several other concerned citizens spoke before the UNM Board of Regents. “Our main goal was to educate and inform the Regents about how women’s lives are being placed in danger as a result of the tax funded UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion clinic,” stated Tara Shaver. Others shared their disdain regarding UNM’s current participation in providing abortions as well as the fact that the majority of abortions done in New Mexico are performed on Hispanic women. Earlier this year Project Defending Life obtained three 911 recordings documenting…

December Newsletter 2011: “A Time of Refreshing and a Departure”
The end of October and first week of November for us was a time of refreshing and spending time as a family. We were blessed to spend time in both Colorado and Flagstaff, AZ. It was our first time to CO where we were actually able to do some hiking and exploring. We met some new people and Charlie and Tirzah had a great time. In Flagstaff, we had many people to see and reconnect with. We love our church family and friends in Flagstaff and always enjoy our visits there. It was really amazing being in an abortion free Flagstaff as well. We are thankful to have had this…

Exposé: Tax Funded Abortion Training and the Betrayal of True Medicine at UNM
By Tara Shaver, Project Defending Life Albuquerque, NM- A recent investigation conducted by Project Defending Life with the help of Operation Rescue has revealed that tax money received by the University of New Mexico (UNM) flows freely to the university-run UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) abortion clinic in Albuquerque. This money is used for the following purposes: Finance the UNMCRH abortion clinic. Train UNM medical residents in abortions techniques, particularly late-term abortions. Conduct experimental research on patients with regard to abortion, contraception and sterilization. The University of New Mexico prides itself on being a public research university. It is the largest post-secondary institution in the state as well as…

November Newsletter 2011: The Crisis Continues; “Who is My Neighbor…?”
Investigation Reveals Tax Funded Abortions In October, Project Defending Life and Operation Rescue, launched an investigation showing that Medicaid pays not only for abortions, but completely covers third-trimester abortions for no medical reason whatsoever. An undercover phone call was made to ABQ’s late term abortion clinic. The caller identified herself as having a healthy pregnancy in the 26th week of gestation to a Southwestern Women’s Options employee named Sue. She told Sue that the reason she wanted an abortion was because her husband had just lost his job. We discovered that an abortion in the 26th week of pregnancy costs $9,000 and in New Mexico, is covered 100% by Medicaid.…

Call Reveals Medicaid Paying $16,000 to Abort 30-Week Down Syndrome Baby
Written by Operation Rescue Albuquerque, New Mexico – As Down Syndrome Awareness month concludes, Operation Rescue has released a video containing excerpts from an undercover call to a late-term abortion clinic that assured the caller that Medicaid would pay the total costs of an abortion at 30 weeks gestation on a pre-born baby diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Estimated cost of the abortion was between $10,000 and $16,000. “We know that 92 percent of all women who receive a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome end up aborting their babies. Now we know that it is done at great expense to the taxpayer, who foots the bill for outrageously expensive abortions,” said…

Operation Rescue has released a short video containing excerpts from an undercover recording showing that Medicaid pays not only for abortions, but completely covers third-trimester abortions for no medical reason whatsoever. The caller identified herself as having a healthy pregnancy in the 26th week of gestation to a Southwestern Women’s Options employee named Sue. She told Sue that the reason she wanted an abortion was…

October Newsletter 2011: “Meeting with the Governor & Two More Babies Born!”
Encouraging Meeting with Governor Susana Martinez This month Bud and I along with Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, Director of Project Defending Life, met with Governor Susana Martinez to discuss the urgent abortion crisis in New Mexico. Last month’s newsletter mentioned how we obtained thirteen 911 calls, ten of which, came from the notorious late-term abortion clinic Southwestern Women’s Options. These ten calls were placed over a 30 month time span and reveal a troubling pattern of life threatening abortion complications. The reality is that on average every 10 weeks a woman is being rushed to the hospital as a result of serious injuries inflicted by local abortionists. The other three 911…

Albuquerque’s Sandia Foundation Profits from Troubled Late-term Abortion Business
Written by Operation Rescue Albuquerque, New Mexico – Operation Rescue has released documentation which shows that the Sandia Foundation acts as landlord for Southwestern Women’s Options, a late-term abortion clinic owned and operated by Curtis Boyd and his wife, Glenna Halvorson Boyd. The Sandia Foundation is a respected non-profit corporation based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with roots in the Catholic Church. “This puts the Sandia Foundation squarely in the abortion business. They profit from the lease and therefore are enablers and collaborators in Boyd’s grisly late-term abortion business,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. Southwestern Women’s Options has been in the news recently for ten life-threatening botched abortions that resulted…

In a related development, the New Mexico Medical Board is now sending mixed signals concerning a promised investigation into 13 life-threatening abortion injuries revealed by a series of 911 emergency calls. The informant spoke several times with Tara Shaver of Project Defending Life and expressed concern about the death. According to the informant, an emergency vehicle picked up the body and transported it to an unknown location. Clinic workers who were visibly upset…

September Newsletter 2011: God is “Moving Mountain’s!”
One Step Closer-Update In August we experienced more twists and turns with regard to our last newsletter. In July we obtained five 911 recordings that reveal the true nature of abortion and how it physically harms women. We also filed complaints with the NM Medical Board. With reference to the complaints we and Operation Rescue filed, initially we were told that the calls were going to be investigated. Then we received letters stating that we hadn’t provided enough information. The Board was insisting that we provide patient names and the doctors that were on duty during the times of the 911 calls. This information is impossible for us to obtain,…

August Newsletter 2011: ABQ is One Step Closer…
One Step Closer… We are continually amazed how God is moving and working here in Albuquerque. He continues to provide opportunities to speak with and minister to women outside of the abortion clinics here. At the end of last month’s newsletter we stated that we wanted to share with you one of our biggest accomplishments since we arrived here one year ago. Our ministry has many different facets, especially since there is so much to do. With four…

July Newsletter 2011: Tears of doubt, fear, & despair turned into tears of joy!
Another Child is Born! God continues to heap blessing upon blessing on our efforts here in New Mexico. Each month comes with trials, yes, but the blessings and favor of God outweigh them by far. On June 3rd Maribella was born. We met her mom Jen* several months ago by divine providence. You may remember the miraculous story of how another one of our moms (Tina*) brought Jen in to PDL. Tina and her son Candido were featured in our newsletter a couple of months back. Jen* had an appointment at the Planned Parenthood (PP) next to PDL on the day we met her. Her baby was about 6 weeks…

June Newsletter 2011: The Mom’s We Serve…Our Heroes
In May we were blessed to see 2 more babies born. You may remember the testimony from several months ago regarding a baby that was saved via text messaging. Tara received a call from a woman whose grand-son’s girlfriend was going to Planned Parenthood for an abortion. We will call her Jane and she was literally on her way to the clinic, and all that Tara was given was the Jane’s stepmothers cell number. Needless to say we were on high alert trying to contact Jane with many obstacles in the way. Eventually Tara was given the Jane’s cell number and began texting her. Thankfully, Tara earned Jane’s trust after…

May Newsletter 2011: Nothing is insignificant…when you step out in faith.
The hardest thing each day at the abortion clinic is when it’s time to leave. However, one day as I was gathering up all the signs, I was helped by a woman who had come to pray. She picked up some of the signs to bring them to the truck just as a car was pulling up to Boyd’s. The woman coming to the clinic caught a glimpse of one of the signs the volunteer was holding. The image stopped her in her tracks and immediately brought conviction. The next sign she saw was the reality of abortion and she covered her mouth and gasped. In an instant she changed…

April Newsletter 2011: Changing Lives, One Life at a Time
John 15:5: Bear Much Fruit This month we have begun to see the fruit of our labor working here in Albuquerque. Three babies have been born as a direct result of our efforts in reaching out at the late term abortion facility and Planned Parenthood. One of these mom’s was homeless and unsure of her future when we met her. Thankfully she was able to move right into PDL’s maternity home. She now has a beautiful baby boy and is almost finished with a dental assistant certification program that she began after she moved into the maternity home. Another mom’s father was pressuring her to abort at 16 weeks. She…
