Exposed: 33 Week Late Term Abortion In New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM- In January of 2015 a 20 year old woman from Great Britain sought a destination willing to perform an abortion for her at 30 weeks of pregnancy… so that she could continue going to college. Did she have to go to Vietnam, China, or North Korea? No, she traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico to have her baby killed.

Why didn’t she have her late-term abortion in Great Britain? Because the international community has rightfully rejected barbaric late term abortions. Only 7 nations including China, North Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Canada, Netherlands and the United States of America still allow them.

Most Americans refuse to accept the assertion that late term abortions are performed here. Interestingly, late-term abortion is overwhelmingly rejected by 80% of American women! Even a majority of the “pro-choice” community is uneasy declaring their support for such a barbaric procedure.

Unfortunately, the majority opinion hasn’t translated into public policy…

Albuquerque, New Mexico is home to the nation’s largest late term abortion killing center, Southwestern Women’s Options and is considered the late term abortion capital of America, actually of the world. Late term abortions occur so regularly at Southwestern Women’s Options that late term abortionist Susan Robinson, who recently retired from SWO emphatically stated in an interview in 2014,

[Women] come from all over the United States and Canada and all over the world too; I mean you have patients who come to us from Europe, we have patients from Australia, we have patients from Afghanistan[.]

But don’t just take our word for it that late term abortions actually occur here or even the word of a former late term abortionist…

“Americans must wake up and realize that bottom of the barrel states like New Mexico still allow late term abortions without restriction. This, in addition to the fact that through New Mexico Medicaid tax payers are funding these unconscionable procedures that at 33 weeks of pregnancy cost $15,500 should be enough for reasonable people to be pro-active in bringing late term abortions to an end. Late term abortions are a grisly trade and America must join the rest of civilized society and reject this inhumane treatment of pre-born babies,” stated Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico.

March was a Holy Spirit led roller coaster of a month, beginning on March 6th when Tara and our attorney had a meeting with the New Mexico Attorney General’s office. We wrapped up the month by ENDING the Protest ABQ campaign after 3 years of productive non-stop activism.

We are ready to launch the next phase of our ministry: Abortion Free New Mexico, and realize that God is the one in control and guiding our efforts!

Albuquerque, NM —Now that the Protest ABQ campaign has concluded, this does not mean that we are folding or backing down in ANY way. The protest efforts over the past 3 years have helped to produce a dramatic reversal and promising public policy shift in New Mexico. Now is the season for implementing proven strategies that will result in New Mexico becoming, Abortion Free.

As Pro-Life Missionaries, serving in New Mexico since 2010 our research and public awareness efforts have helped to expose that New Mexico is drawing women from all across the world and America to obtain barbaric late-term abortions that are illegal in their own hometowns. New Mexico is now known nationally as the late-term abortion capital. In addition, we have uncovered horrific conditions inside New Mexico abortion facilities, tax funded atrocities, and an unregulated out-of control abortion cartel that is operating without oversight or common sense regulations.

Protest ABQ Campaign Comes An End

Albuquerque, NM —Protest ABQ was officially launched in 2014 with the goals of educating the public to the fact that New Mexico had become the late-term abortion capital of the country and that the University of New Mexico (UNM) was the heart of the abortion cartel in the state. In addition, we wanted to expose and hold accountable those who either condone abortion outright or silently consent to it by refusing to take a bold public stand for protecting human life in the womb.

Our call was simple and concise…

Protest Planned Parenthood Albuquerque, NM (Sat.) February 11th

Protest Rally in Albuquerque one of over 200 nationwide calling for the defunding of abortion giant Planned Parenthood

Albuquerque, NM- On February 11, a protest rally will be held at the Planned Parenthood facility at 701 San Mateo Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, from 10-11am. This event is one of over 200 being coordinated nationwide by the #ProtestPP Coalition, calling for Planned Parenthood to be stripped of all federal funding, and for all such funding to be redirected to Federally Qualified Health Centers that do not perform abortions. Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion chain, receives over $420 million from the federal government every year.

Congressional leaders are working to cut funding for the controversial organization as part of the budget reconciliation process, while preserving the assistance this funding is meant to provide for to poor women. Protest Rallies will be held nationwide on February 11 in over 200 cities from coast to coast, supporting the defunding effort and educating the public about Planned Parenthood’s central role in the abortion industry and their long record of unethical activity.

“Planned Parenthood claims that American women rely on them for healthcare, but in fact four out of five women will never set foot in a Planned Parenthood facility,” said Tara Shaver Spokeswoman for Protest ABQ. “Planned Parenthood provides less than 1% of annual pap tests and zero mammograms, but performs 34% of annual abortions in the U.S. They’ve been caught shielding child predators, defrauding Medicaid, and harvesting fetal tissue for profit. This controversial organization does not deserve our tax dollars, it deserves to be closed down.”

Shaver emphasizes that no funding would be taken away from programs that help poor women and families. Every dollar taken from Planned Parenthood would be redirected to Federally Qualified Health Centers that provide a wider range of services and higher standard of care than Planned Parenthood, without doing abortions. “The effort to defund Planned Parenthood has nothing to with taking healthcare away from women. It’s about taking tax dollars away from the nation’s largest abortion chain,” she explained.

#ProtestPP is a coalition of state and national pro-life groups, headed by three national pro-life activist organizations: Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, Created Equal, and the Pro-Life Action League. For the February 11 rally, 40 Days for Life is also serving as a major partner.

February Newsletter 2017: New Opportunity For Hope

New Opportunity for Hope

Dear Friends,

This January we reflected on the fact that we began our pro-life ministry efforts a decade ago. (2007-2017) From Friendship Evangelists living in Flagstaff, AZ to Notorious Pro-Life Activists: Our battle in the trenches began a decade ago and we’ve never been the same. God moved in our hearts those many years ago and enabled us to make the commitment to seek justice for pre-born children, which we are still striving to do today.

By 2009 we were serving in Los Angeles, CA alongside a passionate team of young people with Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust. One of our first stops in our cross country tour was Obama’s inauguration. Our pro-life group was the very first presence allowed onto the inauguration route that day.

We weren’t violent or hateful though, in fact, we came in just the opposite spirit, we came peacefully and prayerfully to our nation’s capital. Obama’s inauguration ushered in the most radical pro-abortion administration in the history of America. So, for the majority of our ministry we have been at war and under oppression like never before in our nation.

However, this month Donald J. Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States of America and what a difference 8 years makes. With a brand new administration comes a new opportunity for hope!

Even in his first week, President Trump has done so much good and w e hope that there is more to come. Our prayer is that our new president, will usher in a new season not just for our family, who is weary from battle, but also usher in a new season for our country.

One Less Abortion Facility in New Mexico!

Coalition For Life of Las Cruces announced this month that Whole Woman’s Health abortion facility has closed its doors! One less abortion facility in New Mexico is a huge victory for the pro-life community and the result of the hard work of many activists who labored to expose this place of death over the past two years.

In 2014 when this facility was making plans to open, we helped expose it’s beginning of shady practices such as operating without a business license and utilizing an out of state abortionist. Our good friends Manny and Grace also took a team down for prayer covering in the border area of New Mexico (Nehemiah 4:7-8).

This is the third abortion clinic to close in New Mexico over the past six years… When they do, lives are saved and communities are blessed.

January 18, 2017- We traveled up to Santa Fe this month to participate in the annual pro-life procession and rally.

We were also blessed to participate in a grassroots protest held in Albuquerque to stand in solidarity with those marching for Life in Washington D.C. It was a beautiful display of how true unity is possible in New Mexico.

Abortion Holocaust Museum

(Sunday January 22, 2017: San Clemente Parish Los Lunas, NM)

This month a parish located south of Albuquerque recreated a holocaust museum in their church using some of our educational and abortion victim image signs and their youth presented a 45 min presentation tilted, “The Silent Holocaust”. During Sanctity of Life month, most Christians expect to at least hear abortion mentioned in a sermon but this church raised the bar… by hosting Protest ABQ!

We were very encouraged by this pro-life church and by the zeal of the young people who are passionately pursuing a culture of life. Pray that more will rise up!

City, State and Federal Efforts to Ban Late Term Abortion

Dear Friends and Partners in the battle for LIFE,

Since moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2010, our efforts have shined the light on the barbaric reality of late-term abortion and the role New Mexico plays, having the largest late-term abortion “Killing Center” in the world outside of communist China! In fact, Albuquerque is now known nationally as the Late-Term Abortion Capital of America due to the fact that women travel from all across the country…and the WORLD to have late-term abortions that are illegal where they live. Recently, Bristol Palin (daughter of Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin) wrote an article titled, “Woman Traveled from UK to US to Have an Abortion at 30 Weeks.” Here is a brief excerpt:

“Why should our country be the abortion destination? A 20-year-old woman from the UK traveled all the way to New Mexico just so that she could get an abortion. Why did she have to do that? Because abortion at 30 weeks is illegal in the UK. Is this what our country has become? The place you can come to kill your child when your own country won’t let you? This has to change!”

While other states (and countries) have severely restricted abortions by passing various laws, New Mexico is ranked #1 by the pro-aborts (according to an article in the ABQ Journal) as having the freest access to abortion since there are no laws limiting abortion. Abortions are fully funded by state tax dollars and it is legal to kill a baby up to the day of birth in New Mexico.

Needless to say, we have our work cut out for us as Pro-Life Missionaries! But, that is why we moved here to New Mexico to work to make it, “Abortion Free.”

One of our strategies has been to expose late-term abortion since nearly 90% of Americans oppose late-term abortions. In addition, we have tirelessly documented and exposed abortionists who are running grossly negligent abortion mills, which we know will eventually shut them down for good.

We helped launch the first ever citywide referendum that attempted to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy in 2013. This legislative session, our groundbreaking research and public exposure campaign (Protest ABQ) was the catalyst of the first pro-life bill to EVER pass the New Mexico House…a Late-Term Abortion Ban!

City, State and Federal Efforts to Ban Late Term Abortion

This month, in a monumental national effort to ban late-term abortions, Bud traveled all the way across the country to Washington D.C. and stood in solidarity with pro-life leaders in calling for a vote on H.R. 36, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Coinciding with the National Day of Prayer (May 6, 2015), pro-life leaders gathered at U.S. House Speaker, John Boehner’s office to pray and urge the passage of a National Ban on Late-Term Abortions. Bud hand delivered signatures collected from a petition by New Mexicans and voices from all across the nation calling for an end to abortions at 20 weeks of pregnancy to House Speaker Boehner’s office…and just days later the U.S. House did just that! When House Speaker John Boehner gave his speech in support of the 20-wk Late-Term Abortion Ban on the House Floor urging Congress to pass the bill he noted, “And I want to take a moment to recognize all of the Americans who spoke out for this bill. Your voices have been heard.”

UPDATE: IMPORTANT SENATE HEARING VOTE SB 437

SB 437: Hospital Admitting Privileges Committee Hearing TOMORROW Tuesday, March 3rd

Your voice is needed in support of this important SENATE bill!

Albuquerque, NM- On Tuesday, March 3rd SB 437 will be heard in the Senate Public Affairs Committee in Santa Fe. This Pro-Life bill needs your support through email, phone calls and in Santa Fe on Tuesday. Your presence is also needed to be a visible and vocal support of this bill.

We just got word that the Pro-aborts are busing in people from out of state to testify at the committee hearing in opposition of this IMPORTANT Pro-Life bill!

SB 437 will be heard in Room 321 in the Roundhouse. Please be there by 12:00pm since this is a small room and we need as many people (at least 30) in support of this bill inside as possible.

Each week out of state abortionists fly or drive into New Mexico from California, Arizona and Texas to perform abortions through all nine months of pregnancy.

Most women who seek abortions at these clinics do not have any relationship with the physician who performs the abortion either before or after the procedure.

In most instances, the woman’s only actual contact with the abortion provider occurs simultaneously with the abortion procedure, with little opportunity to ask questions about the procedure, potential complications, and proper follow-up care.

The bottom line is that when life threatening abortion injuries occur, every second counts.

Hospital admitting privileges will ensure that the abortion provider will be held accountable to get proper care for women the fastest.

-SB 437 will provide the minimum protection and continuity of care that women deserve here in New Mexico. When life threatening abortion injuries occur, every second counts.

-SB 437 will also prevent abortion providers in New Mexico from ditching their patients on local Emergency Rooms where other physicians are left in the dark about the woman’s condition. This wastes precious time in diagnosing the problem and bringing in specialists to deal with it.

Complaints were filed with the Medical Board and the investigation into these unsafe clinics is progressing. In addition, the role of the University of New Mexico in the abortion industry has been fully documented, and efforts are underway to convince the UNM Regents to cease all participation in abortion and abortion training.

Year in Review: Top Ten Victories from 2012: Shelley Sella, faced a disciplinary hearing before the New Mexico Medical Board in November for gross negligence in a 35week abortion where Sella overused uterine contracting drugs on a woman with a history of a previous Caesarian Section, resulting in a ruptured uterus. The injury was discovered when former OR intern Tara Shaver obtained the 911 call records. OR and Mrs. Shaver filed complaints resulting in the Board action.

Late Term Abortion Ban REACHES NM House Floor

TWO Pro-Life Bills Reach House Floor

The 20 week Late-Term Abortion Ban (HB 390) PASSED the second and final NM House Committee vote 7-6. It will now go to the House floor for an up or down vote! The bill’s wording was amended to make the determination of “viability” stronger.

Due to some criticism over the exceptions in the bill for rape, incest, and sexual abuse, Alan Sanchez spokesman for the three Bishops of New Mexico addressed this issue during his testimony at the House Judiciary committee hearing.”The bill would be a step toward outlawing abortion — a position the Catholic Church supports.” He stated that, according to “Evangelium Vitae 73″, exceptions included in the bill do not violate Catholic teaching if the purpose of the legislation is to seek to save the lives of some babies. The late-term abortion ban was requested this legislative session on behalf of the three bishops of New Mexico.

In Evangelium Vitae 73 Pope John Paul II states, “A particular problem of conscience can arise in cases where a legislative vote would be decisive for the passage of a more restrictive law, aimed at limiting the number of authorised abortions, in place of a more permissive law already passed or ready to be voted on. Such cases are not infrequent. It is a fact that while in some parts of the world there continue to be campaigns to introduce laws favouring abortion, often supported by powerful international organisations, in other nations––particularly those which have already experienced the bitter fruits of such permissive legislation––there are growing signs of a rethinking in this matter. In a case like the one just mentioned, when it is not possible to overturn or completely abrogate a pro-abortion law, an elected official, whose absolute personal opposition to procured abortion was well known, could licitly support proposals aimed at limiting the harm done by such a law and at lessening its negative consequences at the level of general opinion and public morality. This does not in fact represent an illicit co-operation with an unjust law, but rather a legitimate and proper attempt to limit its evil aspects. [emphasis in original]”

The second pro-life bill to pass the House JUDICIARY COMMITTEE (7-5) was HB 391 (PARENTAL NOTIFICATION OF ABORTION ACT). This bill, “protects minors from sexual predators, protects parents’ rights and establishes an abortion doctor’s responsibility to notify parents before underage girls undergo an invasive abortion procedure.” The bill’s wording was amended from death to “physical health.”

If both bill pass the New Mexico House floor they will then go through 2 Senate committee hearing meetings before reaching the NM Senate floor. If the NM Senate passes the bill it will then go to Gov. Susana Martinez’s desk for her signature.

Albuquerque, NM- On Friday, February 27th SB 437 will be heard in the Senate Public Affairs Committee in Santa Fe. This PRO-LIFE bill needs your support through email, phone calls and in Santa Fe on Friday. Two other bills (Late Term Ban and Parental Notification) will also be heard in committee on Friday so it is imperative that everyone that is able comes up to speak in support of one of these bills.

SB 437 will be heard in Room 326 in the Roundhouse. Please be there before 1:00pm since this is a small room and we need as many people in support of this bill inside as possible.

SB 437 will provide the minimum protection and continuity of care that women deserve here in New Mexico. When life threatening abortion injuries occur, every second counts.

Hospital admitting privileges will ensure that the abortion provider will be held accountable to get proper care for women the fastest.

SB 437 will also prevent abortion providers in New Mexico from ditching their patients on local Emergency Rooms where other physicians are left in the dark about the woman’s condition. This wastes precious time in diagnosing the problem and bringing in specialists to deal with it.

Albuquerque, NM- On Tuesday, February 24th the Senate Public Affairs Committee will hear testimony on Senate Bill 137 sponsored by Linda Lopez. SB 137 titled “Prevention of Births Among Adolescents” which appropriates $500,000 a year to the NM Department of Health to implement statewide “programming” to prevent births among adolescents.

The Fiscal Impact Report for this bill gives further insight into what this “programming” entails. Apparently the funds will be utilized by the DOH Family Planning Program (FPP) which promotes population-based strategies: service learning and positive youth development programs, adult/teen communication programs, and comprehensive sex education programs.

Furthermore the report states that, “These strategies work in concert with clinical family planning services to prevent teen pregnancy. Clinical family planning services are provided in public health offices statewide and in some community and School-Based Health Centers (SBHC). Clinical services include birth control, counseling, and laboratory tests.”

“This bill is merely a way to further indoctrinate adolescents with sex education that is well known for promoting casual “safe” sex as long as one is using birth control. Young people need proper direction and guidance on self worth, and to be taught that abstaining from sexual activity is the only way to prevent pregnancy 100% of the time,” stated Bud Shaver.

Our last expose’ on the University of New Mexico’s radical abortion agenda included the fact that UNM also has a presence through School Based Health Centers. These centers are currently in two Albuquerque high schools, three middle schools, and one elementary school. The Adolescent Division of UNM proudly boasts that their “physicians are comfortable seeing teenagers with any sort of problem, from acne to contraception.”

The pro-life community should also be concerned that Planned Parenthood may be a recipient of some of these funds. An undercover investigation conducted back in 2013 revealed that Planned Parenthood of New Mexico was willing to cover up the sexual exploitation of minors. In light of this Bud Shaver, issued the following statement, “Young girls in New Mexico cannot trust Planned Parenthood to do the right thing, so we are calling on New Mexico legislators to protect our young girls from sexual predators…and from Planned Parenthood!”

People of conscience should not be forced to foot the bill for sex education that will inevitably lead to more pregnancies among our youth. These pregnancies will then most certainly turn into tax funded medicaid abortions which will further perpetuate the culture of death in our state.

Hispanics Targeted for Death by Abortion According to 2013 New Mexico Vital Statistics

Albuquerque, NM- The New Mexico Vital Statistics has released its annual Selected Health Statistics Report that includes data on abortions performed in the state. This data shows that abortions in New Mexico increased 8% from 3,134 in 2012 to 3,408 abortions in 2013.

The report shows that minority Hispanic women are disproportionately targeted by the abortion cartel, accounting for 53% of all abortions in the state while Hispanics account for only 42.1% of the population.

In addition, abortions rose amongst Hispanic women by 9% from 1,643 in 2012 to 1,798 in 2013. This represented a larger percentage than the overall statewide trend.

According to Life Dynamics’s report, “Racial Targeting and Population Control,” New Mexico has the highest concentration of Hispanics of all 50 states.

Pro-abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood, Young Women United and even the University of New Mexico have exploited this demographic in the worst possible way by targeting them for elimination by abortion.

As documented in previous reports, the University of New Mexico has a sordid reputation of targeting Hispanics for elimination by abortion thanks to UNM’s Eve Espey, Professor and Chair of the Department of OB-GYN, and Medical Director at UNM’s off-site abortion facility, the UNM Center for Reproductive Health.

Espey has also worked on the faculty of the Health Sciences Global Health Program (GHP), which collaborates with the United Nation’s World Health Organization (WHO) on education, service and research. Espey’s focus with the GHP was family planning and abortion in Mexico and Central America.

Espey performs abortions up to 22 weeks and is Medical Director at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health abortion facility. Eve Espey is not modest when it comes to promoting a radical pro-abortion agenda at UNM, she is the main catalyst for this agenda according to her medical students.

As an avid promoter of abortion expansion in New Mexico and worldwide, Eve Espey received the 2014 Margaret Sanger award at the New Mexico Planned Parenthood’s 50 year celebration. Sanger was the founder of Planned Parenthood, whose beginnings were deeply rooted in a racist, eugenics agenda, as evidenced by her own writings.

Sanger once stated, “Eugenics is … the most adequate and thorough avenue to the solution of racial, political and social problems.” (The Eugenic Value of Birth Control Propaganda. Birth Control Review, October 1921, page 5.)

“Hispanic women are being lulled to their cultural extinction by following the ‘Abortion Pied Piper’ in New Mexico to the demise of their progeny. Unfortunately, pro-abortion groups in the state are doing a better job of marketing death to these women than they are in actually helping women through their pregnancies,” stated Bud Shaver.

It is up to those of us who support life-affirming alternatives to abortion to see that this deadly trend is reversed.
