We serve an amazing God, who is faithful and ever present. He tells us in Isaiah 41, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.” We hope that you see the hand of God in your life in spite of the current turmoil in our world. Thank you for standing with us and for encouraging us with your prayers and support. Together we are saving lives and making a difference.

This month we exposed how federal tax dollars are funding late-term abortions in New Mexico, in violation of the Hyde Amendment, through the state’s Medicaid program. What is even more shocking is that due to the absence of ANY common sense abortion restrictions (like parental notification laws) the New Mexico abortion cartel is able to TARGET minors for abortions, and our tax dollars fully fund this too!

After ten years we finally have someone willing step up and take action!

BABY SAVED! Simply Being Present Can Save Lives

This month at The University of New Mexico’s free-standing abortion clinic UNMCRH, where Abortion Free New Mexico holds a weekly prayer and protest presence, a young woman chose life for her baby!   

The young mom spoke to Tara Shaver, of Abortion Free New Mexico, and confided to her that after her last abortion she vowed to God that she would never have another abortion, but she’s pregnant again and struggling with addiction. Sometimes women are looking for sign from God and it just so happens that we were the sign she needed to choose life! So after talking to Tara and receiving resources along with hope for the future, she turned around and left, still pregnant with her baby!  

Tara has since connected with her by phone and will assist her throughout her pregnancy. Unfortunately, for the babies in their mothers wombs, while Churches and small businesses are deemed “non-essential” and shut down, our governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham has deemed abortion clinics “essential”.   

So our prayer and protest presence at the abortion facility is equally essential!

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico, issued the following statement to local media,  

“If Governor Lujan Grisham is going to insist that abortion services are essential in New Mexico, our prayer and protest presence outside of these facilities is equally essential. Every life has value, and if she refuses to protect the lives of the smallest New Mexicans, those in their mothers’ wombs, then we have an obligation and the right afforded by the U.S. Constitution to do so. Our right to the freedom of speech and to peaceably assemble shall not be infringed upon.” ​ 

While some may debate what sign is the most effective to hold out at an abortion facility, our prayerful protest presence was enough to save a life. Simply being present can be the best SIGN!

​Albuquerque, New Mexico– In a recent report, Abortion Free New Mexico exposed how federal tax dollars are funding late-term abortions in New Mexico, in violation of the Hyde Amendment, through the state’s Medicaid program. This struck a nerve, went viral, and even drew a response from US Congressional candidate Michelle Garcia Holmes (R) who stated,

“This will stop when I’m in congress!” 

What is even more shocking is that due to the absence of ANY common sense abortion restrictions (like parental notification laws) the New Mexico abortion cartel is able to TARGET minors for abortions, and our tax dollars fully fund this too! In fact, undercover reports conducted by members Abortion Free New Mexico reveal that abortion clinics workers are coaching minors (as young as 14) on how to get New Mexico Medicaid to pay for their abortions- even when their pregnancies are the result of sexual abuse.

In fact, the University of New Mexico is so brazen in their exploitation of minors (or “young women” as they call them), that they run a “Young Women’s Clinic” at the same location as their abortion clinic!

In addition, to the University of New Mexico targeting minors at the “Young Women’s Clinic,” Abortion Free New Mexico has exposed in other undercover investigations that all of the abortion facilities in New Mexico are targeting and exploiting minors for financial gain.

FLASHBACK: Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico said it best in one of the reports covered by LifeNews back in 2017,

“Instead of urging the minor to contact the authorities, the abortion clinic staff gives the young girl a phone number to the New Mexico Medicaid office so that she can obtain the $7,500 procedure for free. The reality is that the New Mexico abortion cartel is more concerned about how much money they can make off of selling an abortion, especially lucrative late term abortions, instead of adhering to the laws (mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse) that were passed to protect minors from sexual abuse. We need enforcement of these laws in New Mexico and for our leaders to make sure that this illegal activity is fully investigated.”

“In a recently obtained undercover phone call to Planned Parenthood of New Mexico, a 14 year old minor makes an abortion appointment. Not only is the client hiding the abortion from her parents, she is also making sure she can hide the fact that the boyfriend who got her pregnant is a 21 year old man. 

This constitutes statutory rape and should be reported to authorities, however, the Planned Parenthood employee assures the minor that the Doctor, Shauna Jamison, won’t report it and that this type of thing happens, and is covered up by Planned Parenthood all the time!

It’s no surprise that Planned Parenthood continues to cover up for rapists since they profit from these lucrative abortions, but in New Mexico where abortion has no restrictions whatsoever, the point needs to be made that young girls are being sexually exploited and abortion doctors in this state are complicit!”

“In a new undercover video by Abortion Free New Mexico and Priests for Life, the caller posing as a minor and victim of incest by an older family member is seeking a late-term abortion at 26 weeks of pregnancy. Instead of urging the minor to contact the authorities, the abortion clinic staff gives the young girl a phone number to the New Mexico Medicaid office so that she can obtain the $7,500 procedure for free. 

Angelo Artuso, senior legal counsel for Abortion Free New Mexico, said medical professionals are mandatory reporters under New Mexico law.

‘Under the mandatory reporting law (Section 32A-4-3A), physicians and nurses have a duty to report suspected child abuse. The law (Section 32A-4-2 I) provides that child abuse includes criminal sexual penetration, incest, OR criminal sexual contact,’ Artuso explained.”

Hill Top Women’s Reproductive Clinic: Santa Teresa, New Mexico

“In an undercover call placed on May 17, 2017 to Hill Top Women’s Reproductive Clinic in El Paso, TX the caller posing as a 15 year old minor inquires about obtaining an abortion without her parents involvement.

Without hesitation the abortion facility worker refers the young girl to their ‘other clinic location in Santa Teresa.’ Located according to Hill Top Women’s Reproductive Clinic’s website, ‘Only 11 minutes from Downtown El Paso.‘ It’s as if this is one of the main reasons the Santa Teresa abortion facility located a few miles across the border in New Mexico exists.

An abortion appointment is secured for the following Saturday and all the minor is required to bring is $430.00 and her identification card.”

​Albuquerque, New Mexico–  Did you know that New Mexico is ranked #1 as the country’s MOST dependent state on federal funding? What does New Mexico use a majority of this federal funding for?

• New Mexico Medicaid!

According to a report from Yahoo Finance,

“Because the federal income tax is progressive,” Veuger said, “I think you can also generally say that poor states receive more federal funding through Medicaid, which is a huge part of states’ budgets.”

New Mexico is Ranked as One of the Poorest States in the Nation. It Ranked #2 in 2020!

New Mexico is one of 16 states that FULLY funds abortions through Medicaid! So wrap your mind around this, the Hyde Amendment prevents FEDERAL TAX FUNDS from paying for abortions. However, New Mexico, as one of the country’s poorest states, qualifies as the MOST dependent state in the nation for Federal funds, and what does New Mexico use that tax money for? They use New Mexico (state) Medicaid to FULLY fund ABORTIONS! 

Since it is now New Mexico “state” money, it is no longer considered Federal TAX dollars funding abortions, it’s New Mexico Medicaid funding abortions!

We hope this newsletter finds you and your families well and blessed by the Lord. Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we continue to stand in the gap for the babies whose lives (like the Churches and small businesses) in New Mexico have been deemed “non-essential” by our governor. Our cry against injustice must never cease, for the babies who needlessly die everyday across our nation. May we all heed His call to be righteous just as He is. God bless you and thank you for blessing our family and pro-life ministry!

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.” 2 Peter 3: 10-12

While Churches, non-essential businesses, and elective surgeries have been halted in the state, late term abortions continue to bring women here to New Mexico from all across the nation, who by the way, are not quarantining for 14 days after their arrival as New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan has mandated by executive order. Instead they leave within 4-5 days to return home with empty wombs.

On March 25, a spokesperson from New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s office issued the following statement by phone to Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico, 

“We have discussed this matter and the clinics are not going to close. Some people are claiming that abortions are elective surgeries and we are not considering them as elective surgeries.” 

Abortions are absolutely elective and non-essential and have no place in a civilized society. The fact that it is tolerated is a shame to our state and our nation.

In southern New Mexico, Franz Theard was busy moving his grisly abortion machine across state lines to defy the state of Texas’ orders to stop the killing of unborn children, and at least one woman has been injured, during her abortion, on the New Mexico side.

We launched Faith to Action Friday in March of 2019, now after a year, the media decided to publish a news report on our prayerful protest presence out at The University of New Mexico’s free-standing abortion facility UNM Center For Reproductive Health (UNMCRH).

​Albuquerque, New Mexico- Did you know that New Mexico is one of 16 states that fully funds abortions, even late-term abortions? You may be surprised that state tax dollars are used to kill New Mexico’s children since the Hyde Amendment prevents federal dollars from directly funding the deadly procedures. However, New Mexico’s abortion facilities are taking full advantage of this state funding loophole. But why should the state force us to pay for other peoples abortions when we have religious and moral objections to it?

Until we have the right leadership to make New Mexico Abortion Free, we must rise up to let our voices be heard and protest the use of our tax dollars that are funding this modern holocaust. In doing so, babies lives will be saved and the hearts of those in our community will be changed after seeing the truth.

Sadly, the abortion industry and their supporters, which include the majority of state legislators and pro-abortion members of clergy in New Mexico, are very proud that New Mexico is drawing women from all across the world to Albuquerque for abortions. It’s unfortunately a booming business that is embraced with pride.

According to an article published by the Santa Fe New Mexican,

One-third of the 1,193 state abortion restrictions passed since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Roe v. Wade in 1973 were enacted between 2011 and 2017, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a reproductive rights research and policy group.

In that same time period, New Mexico enacted zero major limitations. It remains, to the pride or ire of advocates on opposite sides of the abortion aisle, one of the least restrictive states in the nation.

‘I know that in some circles [New Mexico is] considered the worst place in hell for Americans, or something like that,’ Penn said. ‘But we’ve got to be damn proud that this is a place that women can look to, and where women feel safe.’

On any given day, and especially on days when abortions are performed, protesters gather outside Boyd’s clinic. For years, Albuquerque missionaries Bud and Tara Shaver led the protests.

The Shavers have made campaigning against abortion their life’s work. Albuquerque, they often say, is “the late-term abortion capital of the world.

Tara Shaver said she finds the religious coalition’s pro-faith, pro-abortion rights agenda ‘ironic.’

Dear Friends,

It’s amazing how our way of life can change overnight, isn’t it? We can rest assured though that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever! In the midst of the frenzy, we as Christians can cling to these words and know that God will work everything out for the good of those who love Him. We hope that you and your families are safe, healthy and reflecting during this time of uncertainty.

For us, the coronavirus outbreak has given us a chance to have to be at home, which has actually been nice. It seems like we’ve been so busy lately, it is an election season after all. Since we homeschool, our mornings are already reserved for learning, so we have just limited taking the kids out in order to avoid big crowds at stores and indoor play areas. It has also given us a chance to talk with our children about the situation at hand. About how to trust in the Lord and be considerate of others. 

Thank you so much for your prayers and encouraging words during this time. Hopefully this season will pass quickly and we can get back to life as normal. We have maintained our presence outside of UNM’s abortion facility and have a special action item in our April Newsletter (linked below) to call for New Mexico officials to halt abortions in the state.

This month, during a press conference at the White House, 

“Vice President Mike Pence has called on hospitals to delay all elective procedures across the country to help ensure medical capacity is focused on stemming the spread of the coronavirus.”  

Locally, other health agencies are following this recommendation. The New Mexico Dental Association is recommending that dental offices consider suspending non-essential and non-urgent dental care.   

Abortions are performed routinely up to 32 weeks of pregnancy and sometimes beyond as elective procedures in the city of Albuquerque. It is for this reason that New Mexico is known as the late term abortion capital of the nation. Other health agencies are taking necessary precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, yet the abortion industry is taking no such measures, even though they are offering non-essential elective procedures.

So this month, we called on all New Mexico abortion providers to halt elective abortion procedures during the current state of emergency caused by the coronavirus outbreak, 

“Abortion Free New Mexico is calling on the University of New Mexico, in addition to all New Mexico abortion providers, to immediately stop all elective abortions during the current state of emergency in the state. The University of New Mexico operates a free-standing abortion facility, The UNM Center of Reproductive Health that conducts elective abortions up to 24 weeks gestation. New Mexico tax dollars and medical resources can be better allocated to individuals facing immediate life threatening complications stemming from the coronavirus outbreak. Abortions are elective procedures and as such should be halted immediately throughout New Mexico.”

Nationwide Unified Collaboration

We also joined with Created Equal and other national organizations in calling upon the governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham (D), and governors across the country to immediately shut down abortion facilities to #StopTheSpread of COVID-19. 

Not only are these facilities consuming scarce personal protective equipment, they risk spreading COVID-19 throughout New Mexico. Furthermore, abortionists themselves are not immune to COVID-19 in fact, Operation Rescue reported that, Three Abortionists Admit Symptoms Consistent with COVID19 as Abortion Facilities Ignore Health Risks. These facilities also put a burden on community EMTs and hospital ERs, should they have a medical emergency at one of their locations.

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

New Mexico will soon become ground zero for the spread of COVID-19 across the nation because of the states abortion tourism which draws women here from all across the nation. According to LifeNews.com, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves urged the state’s only abortion facility to close and comply with a state order postponing all elective medical procedures due to the coronavirus.

Santa Teresa, New Mexico- On March 22, 2020 Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order halting all elective surgeries including abortions throughout the state of Texas. In response, abortionist Franz Theard, in the middle of the night, packed up his D&C suction aspirator that is used to kill babies at his El Paso, Texas abortion clinic and transferred it across state lines to his Santa, Teresa location in New Mexico.

Meanwhile in New Mexico, Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico contacted Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s office for a response to our call for abortions to halt during the governor’s declared state of emergency that has shuttered Churches, businesses, and all non-essential services.

A spokesperson from Governor Lujan Grisham’s office issued the following statement by phone,

“We have discussed this matter and the clinics are not going to close. Some people are claiming that abortions are elective surgeries and we are not considering them as elective surgeries. All the clinics are sanitizing very well and they are not going to close.”

While Texas, Ohio, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Maryland governors have issued similar orders ending all elective abortions, New Mexico’s governor is falsely claiming that abortions are not elective procedures. Lujan Grisham is ignoring the fact that women are traveling here from out of state and are potentially spreading the corona virus in their travels.  ​

Abortion Injury Documented Today

As Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham claims that abortion facilities in New Mexico are “sanitizing very well” implying that they are safe, today Southwest Coalition For Life shared a video of a woman leaving the Hill Top abortion facility in Santa Teresa, NM who appears to have had an abortion related injury. One of Hill Top’s nurses accompanied the woman and her driver to what we assume is one of the local hospitals.

“This incident shows the blatant disregard of abortion profiteers not only for women’s safety, but for the general public. Elective medical procedures have been halted to flatten the curve and ensure the best care is available for those afflicted during this pandemic. Franz Theard’s audacious noncompliance with Governor Abbott’s directive combined with Governor Grisham’s failure to halt these elective procedures in New Mexico are now draining the very resources that Governor Abbott intended to reserve and are increasing the risk of exposure for this unnecessarily-injured woman and all those around her. Doctors performing elective abortions should practice social distancing by staying home to save lives like everyone else. Not only will more high-risk persons be saved from the natural evil of coronavirus, but preborn babies will be saved from the moral evil of abortion,” stated Mark Cavaliere, Founder & Executive Director at Southwest Coalition for Life.

“Governor Lujan Grisham can’t pretend to care about the safety of New Mexicans as long as abortion clinics in the state remain open. Abortions are elective procedures and to say otherwise is simply not true. For decades the pro-abortion community has been a champion for “choice” yet all of the sudden in the midst of a pandemic they have changed their tune. New Mexico leadership needs to realize what is at stake here and instead of placing some lives over others, every life should be valued. Babies are dying and women are being injured and there is no excuse for either.”

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Last week Abortion Free New Mexico called on all New Mexico abortion providers to halt elective abortion procedures during the current state of emergency caused by the coronavirus outbreak.  Since then, the state of Ohio has ordered abortion clinics to stop providing all abortion procedures, which are non-essential and elective surgeries, each one taking the life of an innocent child.  

According to CBS NEWS,

On Friday, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost sent letters to two facilities that provide abortion — Women’s Med Center in Dayton and Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio’s Cincinnati Surgery Center — ordering them to stop providing any services, like abortion, that require the use of personal protective equipment.”

“You and your facility are ordered to immediately stop performing non-essential and elective surgical abortions. Non-essential surgical abortions are those that can be delayed without undue risk to the current or future health of a patient,” Yost wrote in the letter, which was shared with CBS News.

On Wednesday March 11, 2020, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham declared a public health emergency after the New Mexico Department of Health confirmed several cases of the coronavirus in the state. Since that time, the Albuquerque City Council and the Bernalillo County Commission have passed resolutions declaring a state of emergency.

We have prayerfully decided to postpone our Quarterly Fellowship Potluck scheduled on March 21st due to concerns raised by the corona virus outbreak. We think it is best to limit social contact for a short period of time to prevent the spread of this virus regardless of how life threatening it may or may not be. There are too many unknown variables and until we have better information we are erring on the side of life.

This July will mark 10 years of our ministry in New Mexico and we are planning a pro-life celebration with several guest speakers! We look forward to seeing you then. Be assured of our prayers and please let us know if there is anything we can do to serve you during this time.

On Saturday, February 8, 2020, Abortion Free New Mexico attended the “We The People Unity Rally,” where New Mexicans from all across the state gathered to stand together and send a unified message to legislators to stand up for conservative values this session. Our attendance demonstrated that we are committed to moving forward in a unified effort combining forces with fellow conservative and patriot groups to help turn New Mexico Red in 2020!  

This month we also continued our efforts going door to door, collecting signatures for conservative pro-life candidates, registering voters, and helping to collect contributions for 4 conservative judges (2 supreme court and 2 appellate court). It is vitally important for us to help get these judges to the New Mexico bench. 

According to Giovanna Eisberg of the Republican Party of New Mexico,

“Here is an important fact; we have the ability to elect 2 republicans for the supreme court and if we are successful, we will have the first republican majority on the NM Supreme Court in over a 100 years! The two court of appeals candidates if elected will give is a very strong republican presence on the court of appeals.”  

NOT ENOUGH VOTES, PRO-DEATH AGENDA TABLED THIS SESSION!

Santa Fe, NM- “We simply do not have the votes” Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth, D-Santa Fe.  As we reported at the start of the 2020 legislative session, the pro-death agenda (HB 51 Decriminalize Abortion and HB 90 Legalize Assisted Suicide) was not introduced due to the lack of votes! Governor Lujan Grisham’s radical pro-death agenda was tabled this session and LIFE once again prevails! Thanks to those who are standing together in solidarity to defend the sanctity of LIFE including Republican legislators and Pro-Life Catholic Democrat legislators.

This month when President Donald J. Trump spoke about ending late term abortion at the State Of The Union (SOTU), understand that he’s talking about New Mexico (as it’s ground zero in America for late term abortion). 

Tara and I, along with Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, have been working tirelessly to expose the radical abortion agenda here in New Mexico for nearly decade! In fact, we coined the phrase and designated Albuquerque as the “Late Term Abortion Capital” based on our groundbreaking research and investigations with the help of Operation Rescue.

At the convention, Tara and I became delegates with the republican party of New Mexico so that we can cast our vote for the candidates we want to see on the ballot. 

We encourage you to be involved in supporting candidates in your area and to figure out ways that you can be more involved since this is such an important election year. 

It is so encouraging to see so many godly candidates rise up to defend life and represent our values across New Mexico and in Washington D.C. They are going to need all kinds of help to get elected. 

Our long time friend and local Pastor, Manny is running for the New Mexico Senate. Tara will be serving as his Treasurer and we are excited about his campaign. Manny shares all of our Christian values and really wants to see the kingdom of God advanced in his community and in the lives of his constituents. Albuquerque, New Mexico- In February, several people stopped to talk with us because hey were shocked to learn from our signs that UNM, a tax funded university, uses our tax dollars for their radical abortion agenda. 

In fact, a physicist who recently moved here from Alaska was thankful that we were peacefully protesting and was very curious about how his tax dollars are being used. We are always blessed to have newcomers join us because together we are a stronger voice for life at theses places of death.

Albuquerque, New Mexico- Abortion Free New Mexico exposed the fact that The University of New Mexico – UNM​ a publicly funded institution, is willing to collude with late term abortionists to deliver dead babies at UNM hospital once a deadly injection is administered to stop the baby’s heart!

• The price tag of a late term abortion at Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO) is a staggering $17,000, but in a SHOCKING revelation, SWO employee Susana Estorga, states that for $5,000 they would be willing to administer just the fetal injection and then send the woman away to deliver the baby 2-3 days later elsewhere.

If the woman’s own OBGYN objects to finishing the barbaric late term abortion by overseeing the labor and delivery of the dead baby within their own practice, Southwestern Women’s Options has an arrangement with the University of New Mexico to finish the late term procedure at UNM Hospital.

In a phone call placed by undercover investigator, Tara Shaver, with Abortion Free New Mexico it was confirmed that, Lilly Bayat a UNM Fellow at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center would in fact deliver the dead baby at UNM hospital after Southwestern Women’s Options administered the lethal injection. ​

Santa Fe, New Mexico- On Saturday, February 8, 2020, Abortion Free New Mexico attended the “We The People Unity Rally,” where New Mexicans from all across the state gathered to stand together and send a unified message to legislators to stand up for conservative values this session. In particular, a troubling red flag gun bill has been introduced and was passed on the senate floor last week. 

At the rally, Steve Pearce, Chairman of the Republican Party of New Mexico announced that Governor Lujan Grisham (D) has put the notorious abortion bill (formerly HB51) on the call. Abortion Free New Mexico had previously reported that the abortion bill, which sought to remove New Mexico’s criminal abortion statute, would not be introduced due to lack of votes. Last session, the Archbishop of Santa Fe was a strong voice in opposition to this radical legislation, which garnered bipartisan opposition and ultimately died on the senate floor.

So far, no legislation has been filed but we are asking that the pro-life community reach out to thank the courageous democrats, most of whom are Catholic, that voted against this pro-death legislation last session. Without their votes our legislature would have voted to decriminalize abortion. In a state that allows abortions up to the day of birth because we have no laws on the book to limit them, this would certainly be a step in the wrong direction. Thank you for continuing to sow into our ministry with your faithful prayers and support. We are so excited to share with you this month how the Lord has honored and answered your prayers. We have asked you to pray that more churches would open their doors, and so this month God answered big by helping us (through a friend) have a voter registration table at the largest church in the state! 

We have also asked you to pray for godly candidates to rise up, and God delivered in a big way as we discovered this month that there is a behind the scenes movement to recruit conservative candidates across New Mexico. We were also delighted to learn that a Christian woman and friend has decided to run against Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino, the legislator who is an openly pro-abortion Catholic and consistently kills pro-life bills at the legislature! She had no idea of his reputation when she decided to run, but God knew!  We are also helping a dear friend Manny who is running against another NM State Senator who pushes the most radically progressive agenda in Santa Fe and who has never had a Republican challenger! Well in 2020 he will, and Tara is the official Treasurer of this campaign that will unseat him and help turn New Mexico Red!

Santa Fe, NM- As New Mexico’s short 30 day legislative session kicks off in Santa Fe this week, it appears that the radical pro-abortion agenda that was defeated last year has been tabled this legislative session due to the lack of votes! 

• See below for a recap of the last legislative session.

According to news reports,

“A new version of the abortion bill pushed last year by Lujan Grisham is not included on the governor’s agenda for this year’s session.

The bill died on the Senate floor last year when eight Senate Democrats joined the chamber’s Republican members in voting against it and Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth, D-Santa Fe, recently said during a pre-session event that “we simply do not have the votes” to pass the legislation during this year’s 30-day session, according to a Santa Fe New Mexican report.

The legislative session begins Tuesday and goes until Feb. 20.”

THIS GREAT NEWS HAS PROGRESS NOW NM TOTALLY UNHINGED! 

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery! Apparently, Progress Now NM realizes how effective our tactics have been over the years and are distastefully implementing a few tactics out of our playbook with billboards and a “Truth Truck” this session! 

According to the New Mexico Political Report,

“The two billboards, from ProgressNow New Mexico*, will be on I-25 near the Budagher Drive exit, between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The signs face both north and south so drivers traveling in either direction will be able to see the message. 

The two highway billboards both say, ‘Rape is about power and control. So are abortion bans.’

The second billboard will be on the side of a truck driving around the state Capitol building and downtown Santa Fe Tuesday.” 

For the duration of the last legislative session Abortion Free New Mexico sponsored the billboard (pictured below) on I-25 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. We also mailed thousands of postcards to churches throughout the state and hand delivered postcards to every legislator urging them to oppose HB51 and HB90.

Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico, issued the following statement,

“Progress Now NM appears to be totally unhinged this session after the amazing defeat of all pro-death legislation last year. While it is true that rape is about power and control, so is abortion.

This messaging does not resonate with the majority of New Mexicans who value life and family.

The pro-abortion community always touts a woman’s right to have control over her body, however,  the control they demand is inevitably used to kill the innocent child within the womb during every abortion. On the other hand, abortion restrictions aim to protect the innocent, the one whom pro-abortion advocates impose their power and control over to the point of death.”

Catholic Democrats Join GOP to Defeat ‘Pro-Death’ Agenda in New Mexico

Pro-life advocates and Republicans in New Mexico are thanking the Catholic Democrats and other “patriots” who joined them [in] ending what was referred to as the “Pro-Death” agenda in the state legislature.
Bud Shaver, who leads AbortionFreeNM.com, told Breitbart News the defeat of House Bill 51 was “pretty miraculous.”

“With the Democrat party in total control of both chambers of the legislature, and the power to sign any law into effect with newly elected governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham, a radically pro-abortion Democrat, we knew that if there was to be any hope of opposing their pro-death agenda, it was vital to activate the voice of the people of New Mexico and reach the hearts of the Catholic Democrats and urge them to vote their faith,” Shaver said.

He added that one of the “most encouraging developments” for members of his group during this legislative session was the connection they made with the patriot community of New Mexico.

“We were proud to stand together and protest in the capital against the push by fringe leftist democrats to destroy the values that most New Mexicans hold so dear,” he said. “Patriots from all across New Mexico joined together as one voice for prayer for New Mexico and to support President Donald J. Trump, stand up for life, the Constitution, the Second Amendment, Free Speech, the wall and against illegal immigration, rigged elections, higher taxes and corruption running rampant in New Mexico!”
The “Pro-Death” agenda consisted of HB 51, which would have decriminalized abortion, and HB 90 and an identical state Senate bill, SB 153, which would have legalized assisted suicide.

HB 51 would have compelled doctors and nurses in New Mexico to perform abortions and – similar to New York’s new abortion law and the controversial Virginia legislation – would have removed all restrictions to abortion.

While New Mexico already allows abortion up until birth, HB 51 would have removed a criminal ban on abortion that has remained on the books since before the Supreme Court’s invention of a right to abortion in Roe v. Wade in 1973.

“The criminal abortion law that was enacted by the legislature in 1969 doesn’t need to be stripped from New Mexico law, but strictly enforced,” Shaver said.

“We needed six Democrats to oppose HB 51, which was the attempt by the radical elements within the Democrat party of New Mexico to remove the partially unenforceable criminal abortion law enacted by the legislature in 1969,” he explained. “In the end, eight Democrats voted to oppose HB 51.”

“We applaud the eight Democrats who voted their faith values in defense of life and broke rank with their radical extremist party that currently controls New Mexico,” he added.

Shaver said pro-life advocates are especially grateful for the efforts of the Catholic bishops of New Mexico who worked in defense of life. In addition to several official statements from the bishops. Abortion Free New Mexico noted the prayer vigil organized by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe in the rotunda of the capitol building. Archbishop John Wester welcomed people of all faiths to join in prayer to “move the hearts of the Democrat legislators to oppose pro-death legislation,” the pro-life group said.

Albuquerque, NM- Abortion Free New Mexico had a protest presence to stand in opposition to the tax funded University of New Mexico’s radical abortion agenda, outside of the UNM Domenici Center, on Friday January 17, 2020… and then members of the group joined the committee that has been appointed to find a replacement for Dr. Paul Roth, Executive Vice President/Chancellor of the Health Sciences Center. 

According to an internal email from the University of New Mexico,

“Your feedback will help create the leadership profile used to develop the candidate pool for the next EVP/Chancellor​ of UNM Health Sciences.”

Apart from a representative of a sitting U.S. Congresswoman, the Pro-Life Community (which included several UNM alumni) were the only ones that showed up to speak to the committee!

It was a great intimate setting where members of the pro-life community were able to EXCLUSIVELY voice their concerns about the radical abortion agenda that the University of New Mexico (UNM) has taken under Dr. Paul Roth’s tenure as Executive Vice President/Chancellor of the Health Sciences Center.

Tara Shaver, of Abortion Free New Mexico, was able to voice her concerns about UNM’s free standing abortion facility that performs abortions up to 24 weeks of pregnancy, the U.S. Congressional Criminal Referral related to the use of aborted baby remains in research and was able to convey the fact that as we stood outside and spoke with medical students before the meeting, the majority of them were in agreement with our position and want UNM to change its direction to be more life affirming! Ultimately, she was able to encourage the committee to reform the University of New Mexico and help rebuild its reputation.

Please keep this committee in prayer as the seeds for life have been planted. Also, keep the University of New Mexico in prayer as they choose a new Executive Vice President/Chancellor of the Health Sciences Center, one that will take a more life affirming and morally conscientious direction under new leadership!

“UNM Health Sciences is looking for a new Executive Vice President/Chancellor, as Dr. Paul Roth has announced his retirement. WittKieffer, the firm selected to assist in the search for the next UNM Health Sciences EVP/Chancellor, will hold a forum at Domenici Auditorium this Friday, Jan. 17 at 5:15 p.m., and they want to hear from you! 

The HSC EVP/Chancellor oversees the educational, clinical, and research activities of UNM Health Sciences, including the UNM School of Medicine, Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Population Health, as well as clinical and research centers throughout the state.

El Paso, TX- In a new investigation, Abortion Free New Mexico has uncovered that a nurse at Hilltop Women’s abortion facility is performing illegal medical abortions in clear violation of Texas law. Hilltop also operates an abortion facility in Santa Teresa, NM which has come under recent scrutiny when Abortion Free New Mexico filed an FDA complaint regarding non-compliance with federal protocols for the abortion pill drug, Mifeprex.

• The Texas Health and Safety Code Section 171.003 clearly states that “An abortion may be performed only by a physician licensed to practice medicine in this state.” 
• Section 171.063(1) clearly states that, “the person who gives, sells, dispenses, administers, provides, or prescribes the abortion-inducing drug is a physician.”

According to Texas law only a licensed physician can perform abortions and includes medical abortions. In a recent undercover call placed to Hilltop Women’s Reproductive Clinic located in El Paso, Abortion Free New Mexico reveals that clinic manager, Gloria Martinez is performing medical abortions at a cost of $550.

Hilltop El Paso, TX: Thank you for calling Hilltop Women’s Reproductive. How can I help you? 

Caller: Yeah. Is this your El Paso location? 

Hilltop El Paso, TX: Yes ma’am.

Caller: Okay. I wanted to schedule an appointment for the abortion pill with your, female practitioner. Is her name Gloria Martinez? 

Hilltop El Paso, TX: Yes. 

Caller: Can I make an appointment with her? 

Hilltop El Paso, TX: Sure.

Hilltop El Paso, TX: Do you know how far in the pregnancy? 

Caller: Um, I think just about like seven weeks. 

Hilltop El Paso, TX: Okay, so you qualify for the pill. 

Caller: Okay. And then how much money do I need to bring? 

Hilltop El Paso, TX: The cost for the pill is $550. 

Caller: Okay. But definitely then on Monday I’d be able to see Ms. Martinez. She could give me the pills and that’s fine. Right. 

Hilltop El Paso, TX: Yes.

Caller: I don’t have to worry about seeing what is it, doctor Theard?

Hilltop El Paso, TX: Yes.

According to the Texas Nursing Board database, Gloria Martinez is a Registered Nurse, not a licensed physician. It is shocking that someone who has taken the time to receive a nursing degree and understands the medical standards involved in practicing medicine would intentionally break the law by performing illegal medical abortions. 

Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,

“Gloria Martinez is not a licensed physician and should, therefore, not be administering the abortion pill to women in the state of Texas. Gloria Martinez is placing Texas women’s lives at risk by violating the state’s Health and Safety Code that was put in place to ensure patient safety. It appears as though the Hilltop Women’s abortion facilities are having trouble complying with multiple abortion pill regulations.

On September 10, 2019 Abortion Free New Mexico filed an FDA complaint against Hilltop’s New Mexico location, where Gloria Martinez is the clinic manager, for performing medical abortions in violation of FDA protocols. The FDA requires that the facilities dispensing the dangerous abortion drug 
Mifeprex, be able to diagnose ectopic pregnancies. As of December 31, 2018, there have been 24-reported deaths connected with Mifeprex use. Our undercover investigation revealed that Hilltop Women’s Clinic is not equipped to diagnose ectopic pregnancies according to their own admission.

The total disregard by Gloria Martinez, as a nurse and clinic manager, to comply with both state and federal laws is quite concerning as her negligence poses serious life threatening consequences to the unsuspecting women who believe they are being seen by a licensed physician who is following proper protocols.”

In addition to the Texas Nursing Board, Abortion Free New Mexico has submitted this complaint to the Attorney General of Texas as well.

Hopefully, these complaints filed in Texas will garner the critical attention needed to protect the lives of women. Unfortunately, most of our complaints filed in New Mexico over the past decade have fallen on deaf ears.

Survey Results Show Disturbing Trend: More Abortion Clinics Moving into the Late-Term Abortion Business

Washington, D.C. – Operation Rescue released the second part of a two-part report, “The Status of American Abortion Facilities in 2019.” Today’s report reveals the disturbing trend that more surgical abortion facilities are now conducting abortions at later gestational stages overall.

Today, there are 710 abortion facilitiesin the U.S., comprised of 464 surgical and 245 medical abortion clinics. Of the 464 surgical abortion facilities, 177 limit abortions to 14-19 weeks gestation while 143 clinics will conduct abortion at 20 weeks gestation or later. 

Despite an overall decrease in surgical abortion facilities, these numbers represent an increase in the number of facilities willing to abort babies in the second and third trimesters of pregnancies.

“Much of the data gathered during our survey this year either debunks pro-abortion rhetoric or red-flags dangerous trends,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue.  “We see women being exploited by rising prices and a rush to get abortions done.  We also see abortion becoming riskier with the new push into dangerous late-term abortions.  This information exposes areas where more can be done to save lives.”

Other noteworthy facts are revealed in Operation Rescue’s survey results.

• The national average cost of a first-trimester abortion rose to a record high of $603 in 2019, the greatest increase in three years.  
• The national average wait time for abortion appointments remains under a week at 6.8 days, which is more than two weeks less than it takes to arrange a first appointment with a family physician.
• Planned Parenthood had decreased the number of abortion facilities participating in abortions at 20 weeks or more, opting instead to focus on dominating the first trimester chemical abortion market.

 Each year, Operation Rescue conducts a nationwide survey that involves contact with each abortion business in the U.S.  The information gathered about the abortion clinics and their practices represents the most accurate data available.

This most recent data was compiled by Operation Rescue, which conducted a survey of all abortion facilities in the U.S. from November 18 through December 6, 2019.

Washington, DC — A total of 36 abortion facilities closed nationwide in 2019, according to a survey of every abortion facility in the U.S. conducted by Operation Rescue.

In 2019, new abortion facility openings slightly outpaced closures. Today, there are a total of 710 U.S. abortion facilities, up nine facilities from 2018’s record low of 701.

However, the number of surgical abortion clinics continues to decline with seven fewer today than last year at this time, hitting a record low of 464. 

“The closer we get to ending abortion in America, the harder the Abortion Cartel will fight against our efforts to save innocent lives,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. 

“Our side cannot afford complacency, especially as we enter a critical presidential election year that will determine whether our national policies favor greedy abortionists or the protection of babies in the womb. The outcome of that election – as well as the fate of millions of innocent lives that hang in the balance – will be up to us.”

Other noteworthy facts were revealed by Operation Rescue’s survey. 

• Since 2013, 367 surgical abortion facilities have permanently closed.  
• 2019’s closures represent a staggering 79 percent drop in the number of surgicalabortion facilities nationwide since 1991, when there were 2,176 surgical abortion facilities.
• There was a net gain of nine U.S. abortion clinics in 2019.
• Planned Parenthood doubled down as the chief supplier of abortion-inducing drugs by opening five new pill clinics, dropping surgical abortions from five others, and adding chemical abortion availability to 14 of its centers that previously did not conduct abortions.
