Santa Fe, NM- This is your last chance to let your elected representatives know that you want them to OPPOSE the radical Pro-Death assisted suicide bill HB 90 ELIZABETH WHITEFIELD END OF LIFE OPTIONS ACTbefore the New Mexico House votes on it.
Abortion Free New Mexico is committed to preserving life in New Mexico from conception to natural death. HB 90 is the most extreme suicide bill that doesn’t just give an individual the ability to kill themselves, it will also negatively impact those who cannot make these decisions for themselves. Those like Terry Schiavo, who are left at the mercy of their spouse or a child whose parents are mislead by their physician. The acceptance of assisted suicide in our state only expands the culture of death we are fighting so hard to eradicate.
Allows nurses and physician assistants to participate in assisted suicide by defining “health care provider” to include: a licensed physician, a licensed osteopathic physician, a licensed nurse, and a licensed physician assistant.
Does not require the person to “self administer.” The bill states “may self-administer” meaning that euthanasia is possible.
Reduces waiting period to 48 hours to receive the lethal drugs.
Allows people with mental health disorders to die by assisted suicide by enabling licensed psychiatrist, psychologist, master social worker, psychiatric nurse practitioner or professional clinical mental health counselor to approve assisted suicide for people with mental health disorders.
Requires health care providers to falsify the death certificate.
Removes conscience rights for health care providers who object to assisted suicide by requiring them to refer patients to a health care provider who is willing to prescribe assisted suicide.
Basis decisions on a “good faith compliance.” It is impossible to prove that someone who participated in the act did not do so in “good faith.”
Replaces the undefined term: “foreseeable future.” with the normal 6 month terminal diagnosis.
Santa Fe, NM- HB 51 Passed House Floor Vote with 40 Democrats Supporting the bill and 23 Republicans opposing, 1 Republican (Paul Bandy District 3) was excused.
These 6 Democrats, who truly care about the safety of women and future of New Mexico, voted with us for LIFE.
Please contact them to thank them for standing with conviction and breaking from the party line.
You can click on their names for contact information to thank them.
Rep. Cathryn Brown (R-55) stated during the debate that in her 8 years of serving in the legislature she has never heard such a public outcry from her constituents in opposition to a bill.
Rep. Gregg Schmedes (R-22) valiantly stood for LIFE and for the conscience protection of New Mexico pro-life physicians who are concerned that HB 51 will strip their right to conscientiously object from performing abortions.
Rep. Rod Montoya (R-1) was also a bold voice for LIFE! He got the sponsor of HB 51, Rep. Joanne Ferrary (D-37) on public record to confirm what we have been saying for years, that New Mexico law already allows late full-term abortions up to the day of birth for any reason on healthy moms and healthy babies! Click here (or above) to watch an excerpt of his testimony.
Towards the end of the debate, in an exchange with Rep. Javier Martinez (D-11), Rep. Ferrary insisted that if HB 51 passes, nothing changes in New Mexico. This is simply a lie but the pro-abortion community hides behind lies every single day as they perpetuate and promote death throughout New Mexico.
Abortion Free New Mexico opposes HB 51 because it removes two enforceable provisions, that include the protection for a woman to consent to an abortion. This will leave the drug addicted, homeless and minors at risk of forced abortions. It will also open the door for non-physicians such as midwives and nurses to perform abortions further placing women’s lives at risk.
HB 51 will now make its way through Senate committees first and then to the Senate floor before going to the Governors desk. Please continue to pray that the pro-death legislation doesn’t succeed and that democrats in the Senate will vote with us for life.
Albuquerque, NM- Abortion Free New Mexico, with the help of local sidewalk counselors, documented two botched abortions in January of this year at Southwestern Women’s Options late term abortion facility that required medical transport to University of New Mexico Hospital. These emergencies occurred on January 10 and January 31.
(Ambulance outside of Southwestern Women’s Options late term facility on January 10, 2019)
In a public records request, Abortion Free New Mexico was informed that on January 10, 2019 no call to 911 was made by Southwestern Women’s Options. Instead of calling 911 Southwestern Women’s Options called, Albuquerque Ambulance, a private ambulance service directly to circumvent pro-lifers from obtaining the call and computer aided dispatch (CAD) record. This delay results in women having to wait to be transported to local emergency rooms, even though their injuries may be life threatening.
The last time that Abortion Free New Mexico documented a 911 call from Southwestern Women’s Options was the day a late term abortion went terribly wrong and Albuquerque resident Keisha Atkins died from her injuries. Abortion Free New Mexico’s Tara Shaver uncovered the tragic death of Keisha Atkins who died on February 4, 2017.
Since Keisha Atkins death, it appears that Southwestern Women’s Options has stopped calling 911 when a botched abortion occurs. Sidewalk counselors also informed us that when the two ambulances arrived last month that there were no lights or sirens. This is usually the abortion facilities attempt to not alarm the patients in their waiting rooms.
“New Mexico is already one of the least restrictive states when it comes to abortion. We are also home to the largest late term abortion facility outside of communist China. Due to New Mexico’s lack of common sense regulations women who come to New Mexico for late-term abortions from all across the world remain in constant danger. The abortion cartel in New Mexico is unregulated and out of control, and yet the Democratic party is seeking to make sure we have absolutely zero protections for women by stripping away the only common sense provisions in New Mexico’s criminal abortion statute. These minimal but necessary provisions include a woman’s right to consent to an abortion and the requirement that only licensed physicians may perform abortions. Can we really expect the numbers of abortion injuries to decrease in light of these proposed changes in the law?” stated Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico.
TAKE ACTION
Southwestern Women’s Options own consent form clearly admits the dangers posed by late-term abortions:
“The risk of terminating a pregnancy gradually increases throughout the course of pregnancy. These comparative risks become approximately equal at 16-18 weeks of pregnancy and increase so that pregnancy termination at 18 weeks and above involves a greater risk than carring the pregnancy to term.”
The New Mexico House of Representatives is set to vote as early as THIS WEEK on HB 51 DECRIMINALIZE ABORTION that will remove the only enforceable provisions in New Mexico that were enacted in 1969 to protect women. Please join us in contacting your representative today and urge them to vote NO on HB 51.
URGENT ACTION: Find your House Representative right now at NMlegis.gov and urge them to OPPOSE HB 51.
Also, please call Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham: 505-476-2200 She needs to hear from us now. Tell her about the URGENT crisis currently facing unsuspecting women seeking dangerous life threatening late-term abortions at Southwestern Women’s Options.
Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico testified in Santa Fe, New Mexico today. She joined her voice in solidarity with New Mexicans from all across our state!
Santa Fe, NM- HB 51 passed the House Judiciary Committee today with ALL 10 Democrats supporting the repeal of New Mexico’s criminal abortion statute. Passionate pro-lifers including Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico spoke on behalf of the babies and women who are victimized by abortion in our state.
The ten Pro-Death Democrats that supported HB 51 were:
In addition, House Judiciary Chair, Gail Chasey rebuked a woman during her testimony who pointed out that Rep. Micaela Cadena should recuse herself due to her ties to radical pro-abortion groups.
Abortion Free New Mexico is grateful to the four Republicans that opposed HB 51:
(You can click on their names for contact information to thank them)
Tara also urged legislators on the committee to VOTE based on a well formed conscience and to not invoke their faith in support of the pro-death legislation making its way through our legislature. Isn’t it time we hold our leaders to a higher moral standard and keep them accountable?
HB 51 will now go to the house floor for a full vote and this will show us exactly where our elected officials stand.
Please contact your house representative by phone AND email and urge them to vote no on HB 51. Go to Santa Fe and talk to your legislator face to face and urge them to oppose this legislation. Your voice matters.
“There is much precedent for members of the House of Representatives to recuse themselves from voting on specific pieces of legislation, if they, a spoouse, or a group they are tied to can benefit from the passage of such legislation, creating a conflict of interest.
Rep. Cadena, who is serving her first term in the New Mexico House works as Research Director for Young Women United (YWU), an abortion-up-to-birth social justice advocacy group, which actively lobbies in favor of late-term abortion rights. One particular bill, HB-51 is targeted by the group, which has partnered with Planned Parenthood and other abortion proponents to form Respect New Mexico Women.
Because of YWU’s political position to gain something from HB-51’s passage, there is a direct conflict of interest between Cadena and HB-51, if she does not recuse herself.”
New Mexico ranks in the top 5 states with the highest population of Catholics. The state has also been primarily run by democrats since 1930. Each legislative session, since our arrival as evangelical pro-life missionaries in 2010 by the invitation of catholic priest Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, it has been catholic democrats who consistently vote to kill pro-life legislation year after year. Voting democrat in New Mexico has become a generational curse that has produced the nations late term abortion capital and worst national rankings for violent crime, poverty and education.
At present democrats have a stranglehold of power over New Mexico, at virtually every level of government, and are attempting to maintain their pro-abortion standing should Roe vs. Wade be overturned. According to a recent article published by the Albuquerque Journal, the RADICAL PRO-DEATH EXTREMIST organization, New Mexico Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice apparently doesn’t view the Catholic Church in New Mexico as a cultural threat. They believe the moral high ground in New Mexico is now maintained by “the conservative evangelical right.”
If You Don’t Use Your Moral Authority, You’ll Lose It…
Most of you know that New York state passed The Reproductive Health Act which now means that late term abortions up to the day of birth are now legal there. Unfortunately, in New Mexico progressive democrats are seeking to ensure that our state remains like New York is now, a place of death and the destruction of lives. As pro-life missionarieswe are determined to oppose this agenda and stand up for the most vulnerable among us. Thank YOU for standing with us!

They need to be held accountable. So we would like to mail more postcards into key districts to urge voters to contact their legislators asking them to oppose pro-death legislation currently making its way through the legislature.Would you prayerfully consider making an extra contribution to help us contact as many voters as possible this month?

We are a Christian missionary family serving in Albuquerque, NM. Santa Fe, NM- This is your last chance to let your elected representatives know that you want them to OPPOSE the radical Pro-Death abortion bill HB 51 DECRIMINALIZE ABORTION before the New Mexico House votes on it.
Whom else will be a voice for unsuspecting women and for the babies scheduled for death?
If the Criminal Abortion Law is repealed, it will leave unsuspecting women vulnerable to dangerous late-term abortions being performed outside of a hospital and non physicians will be able to perform invasive surgical procedures on women without their consent.
Abortion Free New Mexico leaders have been quoted extensively regarding the implications of HB- 51. Read about our concerns in the following news reports:
Albuquerque, NM- Long before New York passed The Reproductive Health Act opening the door to late-term abortions up to the day of birth, pro-life missionaries Bud and Tara Shaver exposed New Mexico as the Late Term Abortion Capital. In an undercover project conducted in 2017, Abortion Free New Mexico took viewers inside the notorious Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO) late term abortion facility. This project combines raw footage of dialogue with clinic staff and exclusive interviews with the undercover investigator detailing her unique account of what it was like to go inside of a late term abortion center while pregnant at 37 weeks gestation!
In fact, you may be shocked to learn that New York isn’t an anomaly! Abortion Free New Mexico partnered with Priests for Life back in 2017 in a nation-wide project to expose that Late Term Abortion is more common in America than most people believe. This undercover project exposed that 28 states across America perform late term abortions.

They believe the moral high ground in New Mexico is now maintained by “the conservative evangelical right.”
Joan Lamunyon Sanford, executive director of the New Mexico Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice stated the following regarding a full spread add in the Albuquerque Journal on January 22, 2019 the anniversary of Roe vs. wade,
“People of faith have been supporting access to abortion and reproductive health care even before Roe v. Wade, and the conservative evangelical right does not own the moral argument on this issue.”
Archbishop John C. Wester issued the following statement regarding the paid advertisement published in the Albuquerque Journal on January 22, 2019 entitled, “An open letter from New Mexico faith leaders ‘We support a woman’s decision about abortion’”.
“1) Signatories to the Albuquerque Journal’s paid advertisement are not affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church in New Mexico. 2) New Mexico’s three dioceses: the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, the Diocese of Gallup and the Diocese of Las Cruces adamantly uphold the Church’s historical belief in the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. 3) The list of religious churches, communities and organizations NOT in communion with, nor sponsored by, the Archdiocese of Santa Fe or the Roman Catholic Church in New Mexico follows and is also available on the archdiocesan website at www.archdiosf.org.”
Abortion Free New Mexico applauds Archbishop John C. Wester and the Archdiocese of Santa Fe for their swift response and stand in solidarity with them in their support for the sanctity of life from conception to natural death.
However, is there more they can do to hold professing Catholic state officials more accountable and to encourage catholic laity to vote more conscientiously regardless of political affiliation?
Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, the Protest Priest recently issued the following statement regarding the current scandal being created by professing Catholics holding public office in New Mexico and the public action needed to be taken by Catholic leadership,
“In New Mexico, the unborn, the elderly, the disabled, and the medically vulnerable are less than animals. Many of the democrats in New Mexico including the governor are Catholic. They should all be excommunicated if they support killing the elderly and the disabled and medically vulnerable as well as babies up till birth.”
IF YOU DON’T USE YOUR MORAL AUTHORITY YOU’LL LOSE IT…
Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,
“As pro-life missionaries serving in New Mexico since 2010, Bud and I stand in solidarity with Fr. Stephen Imbarrato in calling for catholic leadership to take action against self professing catholic legislators that continue to defy their faith and promote a culture of death. It’s simply not enough to make statements and not follow through with public reprimands when the lives of the unborn are on the line.
The democratic party platform is in opposition to catholic values by openly embracing abortion, it is time for catholics to break the generational curse that is keeping New Mexico from progressing by walking away from the democratic party. Every self professing Christian in New Mexico must be engaged in this culture war and we encourage catholic leadership to reclaim your moral authority in New Mexico by announcing that ANY Catholic Legislator INCLUDING Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham who openly supports PRO-DEATH LEGISLATION will be PUBLICLY EXCOMMUNICATED!”
TAKE ACTION TODAY
New Mexico is full of faithful catholics and evangelical Christians who must put their faith into action and make their voices heard on behalf of life. New Mexico’s reputation as the Late-Term Abortion Capital of the world will not change if we don’t elect better leaders and hold current leaders accountable. Now is the time to speak up and take action to OPPOSE PRO-DEATH LEGISLATION.
Find and Contact your legislator and ask them to oppose HB 51 (Repeals Criminal Abortion Law) and HB 90 and SB 153 (Legalizes Assisted Suicide)
Abortion Free New Mexico recently sent out postcards to 1,000 churches across New Mexico urging them to OPPOSE PRO-DEATH LEGISLATION. It is our hope that Christians all across this state will rise up and send a strong unified voice for LIFE to our elected officials.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE PRO-DEATH BILLS AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS ON NEW MEXICO:
Shockingly, abortion extremist and newly elected Governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham, chose her #StateOfTheStateNM not to unify New Mexicans after a hard fought political campaign which brought out a record number of republican voters, but instead to rally her radical pro-abortion base DECLARING that the Criminal Abortion Law, “must go.”
Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, the Protest Priest issued the following statement in response to governor elect Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) vowing to support PRO-DEATH LEGISLATION in open defiance of her Catholic faith,
“In New Mexico, the unborn, the elderly, the disabled, and the medically vulnerable are less than animals. Many of the democrats in New Mexico including the governor are Catholic. They should all be excommunicated if they support killing the elderly and the disabled and medically vulnerable as well as babies up till birth.”
Tara Shaver, spokeswoman for Abortion Free New Mexico issued the following statement,
“On Tuesday, January 1, 2018 Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) was inaugurated as New Mexico’s new Governor. The theme of her inauguration was ‘Imagine a Thriving New Mexico’ but unfortunately, our new Governor doesn’t realize that New Mexico will never thrive until the the killing of innocent unborn children comes to an end. As pro-life missionaries we ALSO want New Mexico to thrive. However, we want the very best for all children born and pre-born. In addition, we must protect not exterminate the elderly, the handicapped and the medically vulnerable. We want New Mexicans to embrace ALL life. While the legislature is controlled by the democratic party, whose platform states, “We believe unequivocally, that every woman should have access to abortion,*” we recognize that New Mexico’s elected officials still need to hear from those who oppose their pro-abortion and pro-death agenda.”

By Bud Shaver
Albuquerque, NM- On January 7, 2019 New Mexico Bishop, The Most Reverend James S. Wall, of Gallup issued the following letter urging opposition to the repeal of New Mexico’s criminal abortion statute,
I, the Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Gallup, voice my strong opposition to a proposed bill aimed at repealing a New Mexico state law criminalizing abortion. While the law is currently not enforced due to federal legalization of abortion through the Supreme Court’s ruling on Roe V. Wade, I nevertheless urge opposition to any bills that would loosen abortion restrictions.
The Governor has expressed concern that the current law would “punish women”, should Roe vs. Wade ever be overturned, and I am in agreement that criminalization of abortion should not target women, many of whom find themselves in personally or financially dire circumstances. But abortion also targets and victimizes another deeply vulnerable population: unborn children and future generations. Our state must strive to protect and uphold the dignity of all peoples, from conception to natural death, and any effort to permit the killing of unborn children violates the sanctity of every human person, mother and child.
New Mexico consistently ranks low or last among other states in education results, economic opportunities, poverty, and childhood health. An abortion will not fix the obstacles many women and families face, such as economic instability, access to education, and a higher standard of living. I encourage our legislators to turn their efforts away from promoting abortion, and instead to policies and legislation which would promote the prosperity of human life at all stages of development.
I also condemn any clauses or measures that would punish doctors and health care workers for refusing to participate in abortion procedures or other medical services that violate their beliefs, religious or otherwise.
As Pope St. John Paul II says: ‘Even in the midst of difficulties and uncertainties, every person sincerely open to truth and goodness can, by the light of reason and the hidden action of grace, come to recognize in the natural law written in the heart the sacred value of human life from its very beginning until its end, and can affirm the right of every human being to have this primary good respected to the highest degree. Upon the recognition of this right, every human community and the political community itself are founded.’
I encourage readers of this letter to make their voices heard on this issue by contacting their legislator at this link.
I remain sincerely yours in Christ, The Most Rev. James S. Wall Bishop of the Diocese of Gallup
Abortion Free New Mexico stands in solidarity with Bishop Wall and announced last week, the launch of a statewide campaign urging New Mexicans to oppose House Bill (HB) 51: DECRIMINALIZE ABORTION, which would repeal New Mexico’s Criminal Abortion Law. This statewide campaign includes the securing of a billboard located on I-25 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe and a statewide postcard mailer that will urge legislators from both parties, Democrat and Republican, to oppose this radical pro-death agenda.

WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEND POSTCARDS TO 1,200 CHURCHES ACROSS NEW MEXICO TO EDUCATE AND ACTIVATE THEM.
However, we can’t REACH VOTERS OR THE CHURCHES without your help. Please prayerfully consider DONATING to help us REACH AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE:

Thank you for standing with us for life and truth!
“Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.” (3 John 1:8)
We are so grateful to those of you who through faithful prayer and support made 2018 a blessed year of ministry for our family. As we look to 2019 we are positioned and eager to proclaim the truth about life to those in our state who are clearly in bondage. Equipped with the truth, the people of New Mexico will finally be free to see with new eyes and a new heart.
Later this week we will reveal our first big project of the year.
Abortion Free New Mexico and Operation Rescue were featured together in Media Matters for America 2018 highlights. Apparently “red pilling” America triggers the pro-aborts…

OUR RESOLUTION FOR 2019: RED PILLING NEW MEXICO
Everything we will do this year will be centered around educating people and advocating on behalf of our pre-born brothers and sisters in the womb. The Lord is still at work in New Mexico and there is much for His people to do.
We hope that you will continue to partner with us this year as we serve the Lord as full time pro-life missionaries and redefine the American mission field. Please pray for wisdom and protection for us and our team as we work to build an abortion free New Mexico where every child is valued and protected.
Are you able to give a monthly gift of $20.19 to our pro-life ministry in 2019? A secure tax deductible monthly donation of any amount would be such a blessing to us and the babies we aim to protect in 2019. Click here to donate.
Be assured of our prayers for you and please send us your specific prayer requests to Shavermissions@gmail.com.
