Because someone showed up in their darkest hour… today, they celebrate Mother’s Day holding their babies.
By Bud Shaver,
Mother’s Day is more than simply celebrating our own mothers.
As Mother’s Day 2026 comes to a close, we wanted to share the significance of this day through the testimonies of two new mothers who are celebrating today because someone showed up in their darkest hour.
For many women, Mother’s Day is a reminder of the moment everything changed — when fear met compassion, when hopelessness met support, and when someone chose to walk beside them when they felt completely alone.
This week, one of the young mothers we helped through the Abortion Free New Mexico Life Fund reached back out to us after months of silence.
After losing her contacts while getting a new phone, she unexpectedly found our mentor’s number tucked inside an old letter just before Mother’s Day. She sent a heartfelt message thanking our team for the love and kindness shown to her during an incredibly difficult season of life.
And then she shared photos of her beautiful baby boy, born in January in Austin, Texas.

What once felt overwhelming is now filled with joy, healing, and hope.
Another courageous young mother — just 16 years old — recently welcomed her precious baby girl in Roswell, New Mexico. Through the Life Fund, we continue to support her with practical help, encouragement, and ongoing care as she begins her journey into motherhood.

“Sometimes the greatest gift we can give a woman is simply knowing she is not alone,” said Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico. “These babies are precious reminders that when compassion shows up in someone’s darkest hour, hope can change everything.”
These mothers are celebrating Mother’s Day today because someone was willing to step in when they felt alone.

Because of your support, the Life Fund was able to provide real, tangible help during the first quarter of 2026:
💙 6 moms supported
💙 Families helped in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and Roswell
💙 $3,729.02 in direct aid provided
Support included:
• Baby and nursing supplies
• Food assistance
• Gift cards
• Shipping and transportation needs
• Appliances
• Mold remediation
• Birthday blessings for struggling families
Every gift helped remind a mother that her life — and her baby’s life — mattered.
This Mother’s Day, thank you for helping turn fear into hope and uncertainty into joy.
Because someone cared enough to show up, two mothers are holding their babies today.
And that changes everything.
With gratitude,
Bud & Tara Shaver
